Stayed here for three nights. Very clean comfortable room. Nice modern room. Cleaned everyday with clean towels. Staff pleasant especially the chap at the bar who also served us breakfast. Breakfast was good. Cooked breakfast good with the added piece of steak. Near to town and train and bus station. Can highly recommend. Very pleasant stay.

Rooms are walkup from the lobby restaurant. They are large but not well lit. Bathroom is modern with a rain shower and a handheld. The staff is friendly and efficient. The location is further from the heart of the city where most colleges and museums are located (about one mile) but easily walkable from the train station. In-house steak restaurant but on expensive side but steak selection is good and there are a few alternative mains available. Breakfast is great with a cold bar including cereal and yogurt. Special feature is that one additional set menu entree from the cooked menu is included in the breakfast price and can be included in room price.

A very nicely decorated restaurant. 1 thing I'd suggest to those who are going that are interested in any of the larger cuts of meat is to not go in hungry because they can take over 40mins to cook or maybe if you know what you'd like ask if you can purchase it and they can have it pretty much ready for when you arrive. Other than that there are other smaller dishes that can be cooked very nicely. They also do great coffee I'd say it's been the best coffee I've had in Oxford.

Today I had the pleasant experience of having lunch at the best restaurant I've ever been to in Oxford in the short time I've lived here. Very beautiful environment, well maintained with extremely attentive staff and wonderful food at a fair price, I think that makes this place so incredible. I will definitely go back there more often with my wife to try the other dishes that the house has to offer. We ordered a Set Menu, because I don't like chocolate, I ordered it without dessert and my wife ordered it with dessert and after seeing this wonder, I deeply regretted not having ordered it. We were delighted as ALL the dishes were incredibly delicious.

Mixed bag here tbh. The pub itself is really nice, yet somehow also has an unwelcoming vibe. Staff are professional and swift, but also highly transactional. No conversation or humour here, just business. The rooms are fine - we laughed at the review of "TV too small" thinking what a weak comment, but it's actually correct - they are miniscule. Barely bigger than an iPad and far far away. Food was exorbitantly priced and not special. Hidden service charge for no apparent reason. Breakfast was a box of cereal on the bar with some apple juice and mislabelled yogurts. A cubic inch of overcooked steak accompanied the breakfast, so that makes it a Grillhouse I guess. It was acceptable for 1 night just be aware you'll be fleeced here.

I’ve visited many times for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. The food is exemplary and the service is friendly and efficient. It’s a genuinely pleasant place to be – beautifully furnished and decorated with real style. The music is sophisticated and unobtrusive. It’s a steakhouse and it’s USP is it’s charcoal grill (named Bertha) on which a lot of its food is cooked. They do brilliant rare steak if that’s what you’re in to. The fish is always fresh and works brilliantly on the grill. I’d say its direct competitors are other fine dining establishments like Quod, No1 Ship and Wilding (RIP) and it compares favourably in terms of experience and affordability. The breakfast is underrated. Easily the best full English in the city, including strips of steak, and less expensive than its competitors since it’s not in the city centre (£15). I recommend: - Breakfast: the porterhouse grill (full English, with strips of steak) - £15 - Lunch: the steak frites (rare) - £18. - Dinner: bedevilled ducks heart, grilled fish, chocolate fondant - £9, £x, £8.50 Excellent negronis - £9.

Nice and nice room. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. The stairs up to the room were narrow and quite steep, but we had our bags carried by the staff. Since we arrived a few hours before check-in time, we left our bags in the trunk, and walked into town. We loved Oxford! Breakfast was included. You had to choose an option from the menu. We chose eggs benedict. In addition to this there was coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt, juice.

Greeted pleasantly by 2 ladies. Room 1 was very spacious bathroom was excellent and spacious too. Bed and pillows comfy. Fridge was on the landing to share with other guests. So we couldn't put our personal items in Fridge. Not a problem if you don't mind leaving your items in the fridge. The lighting was very soft and I'd say minimalist, that was ok until you had to learn how to use Tassimo suny machine, though ,we only required it for hot water to make tea. We had to use our phone torch light for use. I believe an iron and ironing board is required in the room. Even for a short stay and having hanged clothing up, an iron would have been very useful. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to sample the steak. Breakfast was excellent. Eggs florentine and eggs benedict. I wasn't keen on the tea, I have it black so had a bitter taste to it. Summary: very comfortable stay.

We stayed 3 nights at this fab B&B. We had a room on the top floor, room 7. The room was perfect with heaps of storage space, a comfy bed and they supplied 2 fans for the room. It was unseasonably warm last night and we couldn't leave the windows open due to the lack of fly screens. I won't leave electric fans on overnight due to chance of fire. Honestly this was our only problem with the room. The staff are delightful, polite and professional. Breakfast was exceptional due to the quality of the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce is obviously made fresh daily and our eggs were cooked to perfection. Over the past 14 months we have literally gone around the world twice. The eggs Benedict here is the best I have had in years. They also have great coffee. The staircase up to the third level is very "Alice in Wonderland". It is tilted to one side and the room next door has a very odd shaped door due to the lean on the building but it adds so much character to the place. We had the Sunday night dinner special, both having rump steak. It was perfectly cooked, juicy and as a rump should be. The shower in the bathroom is perfection. It is a rain shower head. Our room was immaculately clean as was the rest of The Porterhouse. We are walking distance to the train station. Unfortunately at the moment there are huge road works happening around Oxford meaning that if you need a cab to The Porterhouse, it is a 25 minute taxi ride to get here instead a 5 minute one. If we ever come back to Oxford, we will happily stay and eat at The Porterhouse again.

We stayed there for two nights in early June. The hotel is what you would expect from a traditional boutique hotel in Oxford and more. The rooms are spacious clean with a nice atmosphere. The bathroom was a nice surprise which was very modern and quite big. The hotel offers a selection of breakfast dishes with the bonus being the amazing steak house in the ground floor. Make sure you reserve in advance and don’t forget to try something from the wine list. Location wise the hotel is a 7-8 min walk from the bus station in a nice quiet area. I found quite funny how the stairs are not level at the top floor. I loved it! Extra nice staff, very thorough in every way.

We visited with fantastic reviews still ringing in our ears. We were braced for an expensive meal, that said, I've always been a firm believer in value over cost. The greeting was warm enough, we sat and had a couple of drinks in the cosy bar area and we were then led into the 'Smoke Room' which resembled my Father in law's living room. We were placed next to, or more accurately on top of, a table of four who had clearly visited as part of their pub crawl around Oxford. The foul language would have been less of a problem were they not close enough to also smell them. Of course, all establishments have some nights worse than others and it's possibly unfair to judge them based on our evening, The food was great, we both had sirloin steaks which were, by some considerable margin, the best we've ever had. The remainder of the meal was acceptable but fell short of what one might expect for the cost. Overall I was left slightly disappointed but then I'm not a food critic, so what the hell do I know.

Popped in for lunch with colleagues today. I chose the "lunchtime special" rump steak which, TBH , was the toughest bit of steak I have had in a very long time. (Note to self ... Remember that's why you always choose fillet or ribeye.) When the time came to pay it turned out that for some bonkers reason they do not accept cash. There was no mention of this in the menu or when we ordered, although a sign down the other end of the otherwise empty room was pointed out to me. If I hadn't been with colleagues I'd have made a much bigger fuss. I like to have the choice of how to pay. They also added a 12.5% service charge which, for the first time ever, I had removed from the bill. Won't be returning.

Unwilling to offer lunchtime menu prices for child either, even though told exactly the same food. Delicious steak of many different kinds can be had here as well as some tasty sides and desserts. Could be improved by having a wider range of low/no alcohol beer and giving a bit more sauce with the steak. It costs £3 extra to have a sauce so I think you should get a bit more than a tiny dish that many pubs would give you free ketchup/mayo in. Overall it's nice ambience and good cuisine but a bit variable on the value you get depending on what you order.

My husband order the Sirloin steak £31.His was better than mine more tender. The chips were not homemade which I would have expected on that price level. I ordered the pepper sauce which came watery and not a very strong taste . My husband ordered the Bernaise sauce which arrived in a dip dish and in fact was the consistency of a dip and he was unable to pour onto the steak. Two alcoholic drinks one soda £94 bill. This included a tip of £10+ already added to the bill. I would have happily paid this if the quality was there but in fact it was no better than a mid range pub so I grudgingly paid this.

Took my son out for food on flying visit and on a random rainy Tuesday. Only one member of staff front of house but helpfully advised us there would be a wait. 45 minutes but that was fine, beer was good and the ambience very nice. Service was actually good considering how busy they were, we were attended to at all times in a friendly manner. Then....wow. We went big and we got big. these guys know steak...The food was a triumph. We stayed all evening chatting and enjoying our wine. A really memorable steak and a great night.

Wanted a steak but on reading the menu went for steak, lamb chops & chicken breast as love lamb chops & so glad I did. The steak was lovely as were the chops & all were cooked to perfection. Just did'nt have enough room for the chicken breast as was a large portion! Love the fact the kitchen is open plan with chefs in full view as you walk in & although they were very busy all greeted us with a smile. As did all front of house staff who could'nt do enough for us . Nice touch was to be told fries & sauces (peppercorn etc) were replenished as often as you wanted, however we had enough in the first place so had no need to ask for more. Would most certainly go again when we go back to Winchester. Thank you to all the staff.

Rude staff, clearly didn’t want to be there and unfriendly towards guests. Staff were judgmental at orders and discussed guests at volume behind their back.Cocktails tasted bland and underwhelming.Steak was heavily peppered and tough served “pink”, you would think somewhere called “porterhouse” would be able to cater to classic steak servings (rare, medium rare etc).Curdled sauces. No garnish or style added to the plates, you get what you’re given. Waited half an hour for 2 covers, even though no other tables in the establishment.Showed no concern over us leaving half the meal on the plate as if this were a common occurrence. No atmosphere (music, vibrancy, enthusiasm, customers, customer service).Would return if these issues were addressed as the place was decorated nicely and could have potential with a bit of work.As we were in the area for a short stay looking to make the most of Oxford I wish I had chosen any of Oxford’s other dining opportunities.

Came here for a much needed date night on 28/10 and was amazed to say the least. Restaurant was very busy and fairly loud, but seemed quiet in the ‘smoke room’ (separate dining room). perhaps will request a seat in there for next visit. Was sat promptly and given menus, fresh water and an explanation of the sharing cuts. staff are very knowledgeable and we’re able to also recommend wines to pair with each cut. Restaurant seemed a tad hectic, and although staff seemed stressed and busy, service was impeccable. The girl on the bar (talk mixed race) did not serve us but seemed polite and said goodbye on our departure. Was mostly served by a lovely young lady (short, dark hair and tan) who sat us, answered all our questions and was all around lovely and knowledgable, and briefly spoke to who i assume to be the manager (short and fair skinned) as she addressed other tables concerns. Very professional and polite..The Cote de Rhone wine was one of the best we have tasted and the Porterhouse was the nicest steak we have ever eaten. Cannot wait to return.

Good atmosphere, nice service, delicious food. Crayfish to share to start and then a sharer steak for mains. Once the sharer steaks are sold they are gone, so we ended up having a slightly bigger and more expensive steak than expected. So if you’re after a small sharer steak I’d recommend booking an early table. But it did not disappoint, we had it with chips, salad, mushrooms and the kale. It was delicious. Definitely would return. One thing I would say the restaurant was a tad on the cold side definitely regretted not having a jumper with me.

We were looking for a nice steak restaurant for our overnight stay in Oxford. The Porterhouse Grill did not disappoint!! The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the different cuts of meat, and the steak was absolutely spot on. Will definitely be going back there again.

I was recommended the porterhouse by a friend and was so happy with the portion that came out. The food was absolutely delicious, however that said it is extremely over priced! As good as the steak was, you’re also paying for everything that comes with it. The fries and sauce were standard average and service again was average. I most likely will return but definitely after Christmas when I’m not worried about spending a weeks pay!

We wanted to order 3 ribeye steaks for each, nothing special. But the waiter recommended us one large steak - 1150 grams for three persons. And we didn’t order snacks, knowing that there would be a lot of food (salad and chips). No sweet potatoes but it’s ok, we are flexible. As a result, after about an hour, they brought us a huge bone (200 grams, according to the waitress), 5 pieces of meat and 3 large pieces of fat. Maximum 200 grams per person. The waiter confidently said that it was natural that there was so much fat and bone in a serving, but we wanted 3 ribeye steaks in the beginning! Service is very average, no smiles, no small talks, no excuses. After all, this is more a hotel than a restaurant. When we entered, we were waiting for the guests to check in, the hotel reception is also behind the bar. I would not recommend this place to my friends.

Good food in a cozy inn- type setting. We started with a cheese board, all local, my husband had the poussin, baby chicken, gorgeously grilled to perfection. I had the flat iron steak- good, but the chicken was the star. You need to book in advance.

First thing I’d like to say is the steak was perfect, service was fantastic! So with that said you’d expect an outstanding review…..sadly not!!The drinks came out with 1/2 a grapefruit as a garnish, the starter of bread came out as a loaf and the olives were genetically modified to the size of meatballs and extremely dry. The cheese sauce for the steak was basically a cut of Stilton…no sauce included. Please only order one portion of fries as there is enough to feed a small village….other than that it was great :)

Slightly hesitant after a hot walk to turn up at the location on a quiet Tuesday afternoon in this residential street, but the friendly attentive staff gave a warm reassuring welcome. The “beef fridge” on display for dry aging the joints, shows you this place means business on arrival and they’re obviously really passionate about great steak, and goodness but it really shows in what turns up on your plate. 100% worth the expense, and pushing the boat out for a superb steak. Seasoned to perfection, this tender, succulent steak expertly cooked over charcoal was a lip smacker. Usually a sauce or extra salt and pepper required to make good into great, but this beauty was good to go from the moment it hit the table. Extraordinary. Chapeau!Great wine list, with a beautiful cremant, although one slightly flat Camden Hells lager and one spot on randomly, but who cares when the steak is this good.100% worth the stroll to it. And will be returning for breakfast, then walking it off back into town!

Extremely unfriendly female waiting staff. My partner and I arrived on 29th August Sunday around 5:30pm and bought a bottle of sparkling wine for £48.One of the waitresses who was the shortest in height out of the three staff members ( wearing grey trousers) was absolutely impolite and avoiding eye contact when we asked for a table. She appeared obnoxious in character when serving people nearby to where we were seated in the armchairs nearby the log fire place. She was shouting rather than talking to customers and we found it very difficult to enjoy our expensive drink. We observed her behaviour as she turned away customers walking in asking for a table. She was rude and unfriendly in demeanour. We will avoid this restaurant at all costs! We tried writing to the restaurant but they have a reservation email and not a customer service contact

First time visit following recommendation from local guest house. Sadly, I can’t extend that recommendation, especially if you are vegan. Firstly, the positives - the staff and the service were both excellent. Food intolerance was taken very seriously and I felt well looked after. Unfortunately, the burger itself was fairly average (not bad at all, just not special) and the sweet potato fries weren’t good. That would be 3 stars. The reason for dropping to 2 stars was something I’ve never experienced anywhere else… With a food intolerance, I’d asked for a vegan bun instead of the brioche bun the burger would normally be served with. I cannot see how these days I could possibly be charged an extra £2 specifically for the ‘vegan bun’ itemised on the receipt. Perhaps if you’re a vegan, there’s a question of why you’d be in a burger bar. But if you’re a vegan, I would prepare for feeling like a second class citizen. Friendly staff, but average food and inequitable treatment of vegans.

We planned a visit on a day out in Oxford and walked 20 minutes out of the centre only to find the restaurant has closed down. We checked their website, Google, Facebook and Instagram and there is no mention that they are closed although there have been updates for the Bristol venue. Atomic Burger, if this changes please respond and I will happily remove this comment but I don't want anyone else suffering the disappointment we did!

I had the best time at burnout, I would like to give a MASSIVE thank you to the waitress, Sharday. She was extremely helpful with helping me what to eat giving her own recommendations and what she thinks I would like. Her service throughout my whole time here was more than excellent and made me feel really welcome 🤗. Due to this service I am 100% going back to eat again and I will be telling all of my family/ friends to come here. Amazing restaurant!
