Happy Friday Kitchen in Oxford

This place is amazing,I had the Shroom burger and it's served with so many fries even I (who can eat A LOT) couldn't finish! It's a lovely little place and the staff was very nice!

We were thrilled to find this lovely little vegan cafe completely by accident. The service was chilled and friendly, the food was delicious but we paid over £22 for two drinks and two desserts which was pretty expensive. If you like sweets there's vegan pic n mix hidden around the back! Quite funny that people ask for it in hushed tones as if it's something illegal!

Fantastic food! The portion size was much bigger than I was expecting and I'd ordered loads to sample as much of the menu as possible. We left absolutely stuffed. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. We walked from the center of Oxford and it didn't take long at all, but you could easily get a bus or a scooter. Definitely worth a visit!

Girlfriend found this place while we were in Oxford. Great vegan food, I had a hot dog and my girlfriend had a burger. Both were amazing. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. We would both come back again if we are ever in Oxford.

Quick weekend in Oxford and stopped here on a Friday night. The food was amazing and the cocktails were delicious. Would definitely recommend! We have lived in East London and Brighton, both famous for their vegan food and this restaurant is one of the best I've been to. Keep up the great work!

Good food but the atmosphere was just so quiet, could hear a pin drop. Felt awkward. Would be good is the premises was bigger.

I’m not vegan, but I am dairy intolerant so me and my friend decided to go here as I know it wouldn’t affect me! The milkshakes were so yummy! I have the Mac and cheese pizza as I love pizza and Mac n cheese! It was amazing I’m not sure how other pizza companies have not come up with it?! Me and my friend then shared pancakes which were so delish! The staff are super friendly and helpful the vibe is so cute! Definitely worth the visit even if you’re not vegan!

We love treating ourselves to Happy Friday. Visited this week for the last time due to moving out of oxford and this place is honestly one of the main things I will miss about the city. Delicious vegan junk food - would highly recommend the Seitan for any vegans/veggies craving that classic fried chicken flavour as well as the amazing pizzas! Churros were also a pleasant surprise 😊 bring your meat eating friends and convert them!

We came here to try something new and were blown away by how delicious it was! Lots to choose from and it was the sort of food that you didn't really think of as 'vegan' just as tasty food. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff too.

Recomendaría si visita para pedir algunos lados durante una comida principal. Los lados son caros (5/6 cada uno) pero las porciones son muy grandes. Los nuggets de seitán y los macarrones con queso son deliciosos.La red, por otro lado, se queda corta. He comido 2 hamburguesas en el pasado, que no solo fueron muy decepcionantes dado el precio, sino que en ambas ocasiones no estaban cocinadas (una realmente salió fría). En esta visita decidí tomar una pizza y me sorprendió lo gruesa que era. ¡Nunca había visto una pizza tan gruesa antes! ! Solo logré 2 rebanadas, la masa estaba tibia pero definitivamente no estaba cocida y el queso de encima no se derritió correctamente. ¿Por qué sus platos principales nunca están completamente cocidos? ?Honestamente, dejo este lugar sintiéndome un poco insatisfecho y que he desperdiciado mi dinero.

Visited Oxford for my wife's Birthday and went HFK for some lunch, food was really nice, staff were lovely and helpful. Had the Hotdog and the California Burger with Cheesy Fries. Would definitely visit again if we were in Oxford in the future.

Soy un comedor de carne, pero la hamburguesa de Shroom fue fácilmente tan buena como cualquier hamburguesa de ternera que haya comido. Absolutely delicious food. I come here for coffee and cake in the afternoon, a drink in the evening or lunch with friends. My favourite is the mac daddy burger with Seitan and their delicious mac n cheese, and vegan burger sauce.Honestly this place is heaven for vegans. They're still open for deliveries during lockdown so give it a go. (Also their milkshakes are delicious and I can't wait to try their churros at some point)

Recently, I've visited HFK because I was craving a milkshake and I told a friend to go there to try them. I ordered the Snickers one because I usually LOVE that flavour. Unfortunately, it didn't taste like it. Actually, I wouldn't even say that it tasted right. I think it was way too expensive having in count that it was extremely liquid and the taste wasn't right.

It's a lovely place with great food, and everything is 100% vegan. Don't miss out on their burger lunch deals!

I don't normally write reviews but this place in particular deserves to have one. I've been going here several times within the past few months and all I really need to say is how good of a waitress Megan is! I'm always greeted by such a wonderful smile on my way in and I feel the enthusiasm practically radiating from her. Always so kind and friendly, and always convinces me to keep coming back for more. Myself and a friend were greeted as soon as we walked in, it was my first time eating here and i was pleasantly surprised by the range offered. Ordered the Soy Boy as per Megans recommendation, she was also able to advise me on the allergens within the bakery items as I have a gluten allergy. Will be back soon!

I took my family here for lunch and not all of them are vegan, so it was great that we had a really helpful and sunshine-friendly waitress, Alice, to talk them through the options! The food came quickly and was really great, I loved the Notorious VEG pizza, my brother loved the vegan macaroni, my aunt loved her bowl, my dad loved his burger - in short, it's all definitely among the best vegan food I've had. Not dirt cheap but worth it! Also the place has a lovely vibe, quirky, adorable dog, nice place to hang out, relax, gaze out the window. 5* service, we'll 100% be coming back soon to try out more of the menu!

I was greeted by a lovely front of house staff, Megan. She was very helpful as first time eating at HFK and me and my friend don’t normally eat vegan food, it was lovely, will be returning again!

I've been to the restaurant many times with friends as its easily the best place in Oxford to get Vegan food but this time was made super special by our waitress Ellie! I wanted to try something new from the menu and she spent a while helping us pick, i had the chilli cheese dog and it did not disappoint! Thank you Ellie for making our visit super wonderful and being so helpful! The food was as amazing as ever and I'll be returning in no time to try another thing on the menu!

Booked a table over the phone with a very friendly staff member, greeted on arrival and given our pick of several available seats. Our food did arrive separately but as it's cooler to order this didn't bother us. Our drinks order and request for tap water were very quick, and we were offered a refill as well. I'd ordered the burrito, which was really tasty, and my husband had the nacho burger, which was amazing! They'd run out of tortilla chips to go with my main meal and substituted it for chips with cheese sauce without checking with me first, which was a shame as I'd have preferred plain ones if given the choice. However, that is literally my only negative point and it's a pretty small one! The puddings are amazing, so so good! Bathroom was clean and, the whole place had a nice relaxed vibe with background music. Will definitely be back and highly recommend

I’ve been lots of times with friends and every time I’ve enjoyed the food and service. I was most recently served by a waitress, I think her name was megan who was very polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend the brownies

After following the HFK's instagram for several months we had been waiting for the opportunity to travel down to Oxford and try out the amazing looking food. So this Valentines weekend we booked the trip.

A group of 4 of us ate for valentine’s day, our table was booked for 7pm, due to insufficient parking facilities half of the party was 15 minutes late for the booking. The restaurant was well put together however it was over crowded with too many tables. Nonetheless we ordered our food at about 7:30.. at 8:30 i had call a waitress and ask how long the wait was going to be for our food, a couple next to us then thanked us for asking, they also said they’d been waiting over an hour. 15 minutes later our food then came, however in a strange order 2 sets of sides came, then 5 minutes later another side would come, then after another 25 minutes we all had our food. One of the members of our party has a tomato allergy and specifically asked for there to be no tomatoes in her burger, unsurprisingly, there was many a tomato. Her burger also tasted a lot like vomit...half was left on the plate. Similarly, I ordered the ‘happy friday burger’ which specifically has no avocado in, once again unsurprisingly, there was definitely avocado in there. My burger was inedible, after two bites i resulted too filling up on chips. We were all left highly disappointed at this overrated, incredibly overpriced poor excuse of a vegan restaurant. 3 of us are vegan and had never had vegan food been butchered so badly.

Lived in Oxford for three years and this was my favourite vegan/vegetarian place. Quite far out from the center so was usually an hours walk for me but always worth the trip. They serve vegan 'fast food', so pizzas, burgers, loaded fries etc. The portions are huge and it's good value. I really love the food, very comforting, full of flavour - the sort of thing you think you'll never be able to eat again when you go vegan.

Excellent food, lovely staff, good choice of food with great cocktails. Really good evening.we tried lots of different dishes and were really pleased. Recommended. My son isnt a vegan nor vegetarian and he lived the food.:)

Visited HFK on the 18th Jan at around 6pm. Most of the tables were full, which was nice to see. Only a small restaurant but the atmosphere was great. My partner and I got a feast between us of pizza, seitan strips, HFK burger, loaded fries and cheesecake. The pizza was out of this world! The base was heavenly and, being vegan for two years, I haven’t found a pizza that I absolutely love...until now! The loaded fries with jackfruit were a bit much, but this is probably because we ordered so much food. The burger and cheesecake were also great. The only thing that stopped me from giving five stars is the service. Although the staff were polite, they didn’t seem to be enjoying their evening as much as we were, which let it down slightly, but obviously did not change the excellent taste of the food!

Lovely, warming food in an excellent setting. I come here regularly for tea/cake as well as for dinner. The atmosphere is second-to-none and feels both homely and communal. Each visit to HFK brings such pleasure and leaves me relaxed and uplifted. I would return every day if I could! I will miss HFK desperately when I leave.

The best vegan junk-food-style meal I’ve ever had! I’ve had great vegan burgers before but the big choice of sides, desserts and drinks really makes this place special. I had the delicious California burger (with avo and aubergine), buffalo cauliflower, hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, and deep fried cookie dough balls. All my eating companions loved it too, including the dedicated carnivore. I’ll be back every time I’m in Oxford.

I've lived on the Cowley Road for 10 years and have eaten in all of the eating establishments (apart from Chicken Cottage and KFC). I can honestly say that Happy Friday Kitchen is really special and one of the most enjoyable eats I've had in a long time. I've tried their burgers, bowls and pizzas and the ingredients and flavour combinations are fresh, delightful and mouth watering. For the first time in my adult life when I've finished the food, I am sad that it is gone. Their stock in trade is vegan fast food with a few healthy options such as their Buddha bowls (very nourishing and moreish). Really happy that vegan food can break into the market on the Cowley Rd.

A nice little restaurant, but distinctly average fare. I had to wait over half an hour in an almost empty restaurant for a burger and chips. Decent chips, but the burger was a bit bland, and surprisingly tough.

Happy Friday is right at the end of Oxford's 'Eat street', or as it's more commonly known, the west end of Cowley Road. It's a longish but not unpleasant walk from the city centre, but if you don't want to be distracted by all the other eateries that you have to pass on the way (Or your feet hurt, or it's raining, or... oh never mind) there are several buses with the words 'Cowley Road' on their destinations board, usually number 10 in my experience. Ask for The Regal or Magdalen Road, walk back to the crossing, cross over, walk a little further, Happy Friday is on your left. If you reach the church you've gone too far.

After reading some great reviews my expectations were high. We visited on a late Saturday afternoon which was probably the best time as almost every table was taken however it wasn’t too busy. Ideal.

I have been there twice, I had a burger and an hot dog and they were terrific. I really looking forward to try more dishes from the menu. The girl who served me (the owner, I reckon) was lovely and a super sweet dog welcomes you at the door. My fav independent place in Oxford, I can’t wait to be back and I do think is highly recommended for not vegan\vegetarian people as well.

Had been really excited given the reviews and recommendations from friends. Did not meet expectations. Lack of atmosphere with no music, oddly the restaurant was completely silent. The mains we had were the burrito and the soy boy. The burrito is more of a quasedilla, and the "nachos" are tortilla chips with cold cheese sauce on, not great. The soy boy, tofu was slimy and generally tasteless. Really disappointed given how this place is held in such high esteem by the Oxford vegan scene. The service didn't get the order right and we were the only ones in the restaurant. No pizza, dough balls or poutine fries were available from the kitchen so reduced menu choices. In all, we wouldn't recommend.

Came to Oxford from London (where we have lots of vegan options) and ended up eating here for dinner and then breakfast! Really good food, hearty portions and friendly staff. Would recommend.

We were looking for a vegan restaurant in Oxford and couldn't find one that was fully vegan, we eventually found the happy Friday kitchen restaurant and we had dinner - the food was amazing and I particularly recommend the 'Mac burger'! The waiters were very nice and friendly. I advise to definitely go!

Visited as a couple and had a good meal. The seitan tenders were delicious and a good starter for two. The California burger was also delicious. My partner had the burrito which was too spicy even for a lover of spice, it was almost too much to eat. Not your typical Mexican burrito in terms of flavour so wouldn’t hugely recommend this. Service was friendly but a problem with staffing in the kitchen meant we were waiting nearly an hour for our food, the staff were friendly and apologetic though and even offered us some of there bakery items while we waited. Hopefully this is not a regular issue.

one of the friendliest places I’ve been to, waitress called Cathy (?) is always especially delightful and fun to chat with. Food is always delicious, I’ve been coming here for more than a year now and have never been disappointed.

Cute Vegan restaurant that does such a good job that you'd swear it was meat!

Visited with my vegan friend and found it a great introduction to vegan cooking and what alternatives are possible. As a meat-eater, I didn't feel as though I was compromising anything and that all the dishes were in fact tastier - loved the scrambled tofu! If it wasn't so expensive, I'd visit more often. All in all it has a great independent small business vibe and necessary pit stop for all - vegan and non vegan alike - visiting Oxford.

We had the ‘Shroom burger’ and omg genuinely was the nicest burger I’ve ever had in my life!!!!!! The chips were to die for, the milkshakes were insane and the deserts. We loved everything! One small comment I would mention is that I know it says on the menus and around the building but when you sit people down, please tell them that you have to order at the bar

I really wanted to like HFK, but unfortunately I left disappointed. I ordered the Loaded Nachos and the 'Return of the Mac' mac & cheese. The mac had very little flavour at all. I should have read through other similar reviews and I probably would have ordered differently. Maybe my expectations were a bit too high, and vegan 'cheese' will just never get much better than what was offered. If this is the case, personally, I just wouldn't put it on the menu.

This was the first time we'd visited. The atmosphere and decoration had the friendly feel of 'Cafe life'. It was very clean,the toilets perfect, and the service we received was very efficient. It was clear that the owner is able to think creatively about the experience the customer would like to have, such as the makeshift birthday cake I requested at the last minute (made with the most delicious brownies). They even supplied the candles :))

Ive been a regular since this place opened 2 years ago and every-time i visit there i i have the best time and food. The menu has improved every-time i visit with new mains and specials!! i really could not recommend this place more definitely one of my top 10 vegan places for sure. their cheesy chips are to die for and everything else is super delicious too. 10/10, must go and try!! you wont be disappointed!

Great meal at the Happy Friday Kitchen, went with 3 non-vegans who were also just as knocked out with the food. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere, it's great to know places like this exist in Oxford.

I took two omni friends here and we all loved it! We had a burger, hot dog, pizza and two sides - everything was amazing! Big portions so ended up taking some home :) didn’t have room for pudding but the salted caramel shake was so so tasty! I would 100% recommend, the staff are friendly, it’s a really cute setting and lovely atmosphere! Thank you!

My niece is vegan and wanted to have her birthday meal at The Happy Friday Kitchen. None of us had been before. Out of 7 there was one vegan, one vegetarian and the remaining were meat eaters.

Not a vegan and only here because a visiting friend is vegan. The food is generally meh but the cheesecake was AWESOME. I would come back for the cheesecake.

Me and the Mr have tried this place twice now and both times have been great. My favourite has been the Buddha dog and doughballs. My eldest son is 11 and he is a meat eater and he finishes what I can't due to my eyes being bigger than my stomach but he loves each order we've had. Next up is trying the pizza. Well worth the money and the trip to pick up the order :)

I made a special trip here whilst in Oxford for the day as I’d visited before and loved it. There’s so much choice it took me ages to decide but decided on the muffin breakfast with seitan, scrambled tofu and cheese with hash browns YUM! The guys who work here are super friendly and helpful - also 6 hours later I’m still full - added bonus! Also got some brownies to take home just because I couldn’t not

We went to happy Friday kitchen having wanted to go for absolutely ages, despite neither of us being vegan.

Excellent food and drinks, really friendly staff. They allow dogs which is great. Only downside is the incredibly slow service; every time I've been there I've waited at least 40 minutes for food, when it wasn't even busy. It's worth it if you're not in a rush.

I have been following the Instagram page for months and I finally decided to drive over to oxford ( from London) to try the food and it did not disappoint!

I had to double check this is a 100% vegan restaurant. The food is out of this world! We ordered a full breakfast, breakfast muffin and peach pancakes. We literally inhaled our food, it was so tasty. We are long term vegans and have struggled over the years to find THE place where we want to keep coming back to when we don't feel like cooking at home. It's moderately priced.

I visited HFK when it first opened and wasn't impressed, so didn't return. A year and a half later, I decided to revisit in the hopes they had improved some of the little glitches.

I went to a vegan restaurant in Bournemouth, some time ago. It wasn't good. My experience from then had been tainted. I assumed all vegan places were the same, but then I came here. Service was impeccable, our order came out in a speedy manner, and our food... Was out of this world! I wasn't even hungry when I arrived, but I ate everything! It has opened my eyes to vegan restaurants and I'm only sorry I never came here sooner. I will definitely be back. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinning experience, stay awesome!

I ordered some late night snacks on deliveroo the other night. As usual was not disappointed! I got the loaded fries which were soooooo yummy! Even after being delivered (I live about 10 minutes away) the food was so good and just what I needed late at night. My friend got the Californian burger and said it was amazing!

Super yummy (guilty pleasure) food in a fun and quirky cafe. It’s places like this that make me so pleased and proud to be part of the vegan community! There’s good food, fun vibes, vegan merchandise AND a pic and mix with all your childhood faves! Will 1000% be back soon!!

Excellent vegan food and great service from the staff! It can be quite pricey depending on what you have but it's definitely worth it. If you're close by I would recommend dropping in for a bite to eat!

We have come to HFK and in the past have had great food! Today for lunch we had a California bowl and hotdog with fries.

I'm so happy to see that Oxford has its own vegan restaurant! I was initially a bit skeptical as a large proportion of vegan alternative food is never really as good as you think it may be. However this place is incredible! The portion's are humongous! Price is very good for the portion's you're eating.

I went here yesterday and I really liked the vibe. The decor was similar to a lot of quirky student places but what makes this place different is that it's 100% vegan. I'm not vegan or even vegetarian but everything on the menu sounded amazing. I had just a lemonade and the cookie dough balls and a friend and I met for just a light snack but woulhs love to come back and try their brunch or burgers.

Went for brunch here as we had some vegetarians in our group. Definitely worth the extra walk up the Cowley Road.

If you haven't been to this authentic and original vegan eatery, then you are missing out on a real vegan culinary experience. I have tried making this kind of food at home, but it does not taste anywhere as good as Happy Friday Kitchen's food. The beer is pretty good too and also vegan. I would recommend this to anyone but if your are vegetarian or vegan HFK is superb..

Food took about 45 minutes to come and my Buddha bowl didn’t require cooking as it was raw veg so not sure why it took so long? The dog was cute but kept barking the whole time, I am a dog lover however strongly believe that if you’re gonna have a token dog at a restaurant maybe train it to not bark at the deliveroo drivers??? Also as a vegan restaurant you should look into getting more gluten free options too - if you cater for the few why not expand that a little further?

We got to Happy Friday Kitchen yesterday and were warmly greeted, seated and given menus. I also love the fact dogs are allowed.

This is was our 3rd or 4th visit to HFK. We llive about 20 miles away and always have to wait for our son to come back from uni but it’s always worth the wait! Our latest visit was no exception.

Came in with a couple of friends tonight (only one of us is vegan) and shared two delicious pizzas!! We were greeted by a dog called Buddha (super cute). We were offered garlic "mayo" to go with our pizza and it was better than regular mayo!! We had the "Notorious V.E.G" and the "Meat Loathers" which were both to DIE for. I had a IPA to drink which was super yummy and reasonably priced. We can't wait to come back and try the burgers!

My partner and I ate here after a trip to Waterperry Gardens. The customer service was fantastic and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very welcoming. We had the buffalo cauliflower, which was tender and came with a lovely blue cheese-style sauce. For mains, we each had a California burger. The seitan was lovely and crispy and my partner (who had previously eaten meat) commented that it exceeded the taste of any meat burger. Our only comments would be that the seitan was too salty for our taste and the portion of accompanying fries could be halved to avoid waste and still be worth the price being charged.

I’ve been here before to get a takeaway, my partner and I had burgers and chips which were so delicious! He loves meat but has asked to go back here for another vegan burger, they’re that good!

Food here was amazing. So much choice and tasted fantastic. The ice cream sundae was something else. Great service from Emma and Stu. They also helped us to make our choices as it was near impossible to choose between such a variety of dishes.

On two occasions now, I have had items missing from my order's. It's such a shame as I love their vegan ethos and haven't had any problems eating in their restaurant. Maybe they don't take the care that they usually do with their customer orders compared with their in house customers? I would just be aware that if you do place a take away order with them, you may not receive your full order. Non the less I would still recommend the food as it is perfectly fine if you plan on making a visit to Happy Friday Kitchen rather then ordering a take away.

We went for an evening meal at 7pm, I called to check whether or not we should book and was told it probably wouldn't be busy but on arrival we bagged the last free table! Service was a little slow however the place was full and you could tell the lady serving was doing everything she could to speed things up, she was the only one at the till/doing drinks/serving food and she was very polite and sweet.

I may not be vegan or vegetarian but the food was absolutely brilliant (I had the California burger), the long blonde haired girl who served me was super lovely and helpful/attentive, the decor is my inner non-existent vegan’s dream come true, and Buddha (the owner’s dog) just tops it all off. It’s definitely my new favourite place on Cowley now, makes me feel like I’m in an quirky restaurant in somewhere like Barcelona. Overall a great bang for my buck.

Visited last night for my first ever vegan meal . Stuart was very friendly explaining what was in all the various dishes . Tasty food and reasonably priced as well . Recommend .

Excellent food, and wonderful service. I had the California burger which was fantastic, as well as shared starters of spicy cauliflower wings & "cheesy" chips which were both great. If anyone says vegan food is bland, take them here and witness their jaw drop.

We had the California burger and Mac n Cheese. Both were delicious, very good portions, well presented and hot and fresh. The flavours and textures are incredible and we really enjoyed our time there. This was our first visit; it definitely won't be our last!

El mejor restaurant vegano que he visitado, tiene pitza, hamburguesa, ensaladas, entradas, dulces etc. Acogedor el lugar, su gente muy amable, precio calidad bien. Por ser vegano y chico no puedes esperar una tremenda carta, pero lo suficientemente buena para pasar un buen rato con comida de calidad.
