Really lovely cafe, great menu and reasonably priced. The food was amazing and would definitely highly recommend the prawns and fish! Generous portions so be sure to leave some room for the fabulous cakes…. Or get a slice to go!

We had been the day before for coffee and cake (both bloody delicious - the coconut and pineapple sponge was unbelievable) and decided to come back the next day for lunch. Small yet perfectly formed menu, we opted for Sea To Plate (big prawn / langoustines with really good chips, and really nice salad) and Farm To Plate (Luing Cattle beef bourgignon and rice), plus a local beer (Jarl). Both meals were outstanding, and the staff are super friendly. Ace view while you eat too!

An absolute find! We stopped for lunch, two families with kids on a small bike tour of the island and were rewarded with the a generous serving freshest prawns (langoustines), beautiful fresh fish and chips that the kids enjoy. We followed it with coffees and cakes and sat outside staring at the most stunning view. The centre also has interesting exhibits and a lovely shop. An absolute must

Myself and my partner visited for lunch during our visit to the island. I had a salmon and cream cheese ciabatta roll with chips and salad and my partner had the haddock goujons and chips. Both meals were delicious and my partner said it was the best fish and chips he’d ever had! The next day we returned as the ferry had broken down so we needed somewhere to sit and pass the time. The staff were lovely, really chatty and friendly. We both had the best chocolate brownies - absolutely amazing!

I had the prawn salad and chips option. I'd seen the photos online before but was still amazed when the dish arrived at my table - WOW!! I ate everything on my plate. The prawns were amazing and done to perfection. The salad was superb, full of flavour and incredibly fresh. The chips were perfect and very generous portion. I was made to feel very welcome as soon as I arrived. After eating I enjoyed a very nice coffee. I could hear the friendly banter with all customers, everyone was given personal attention, not just the locals. I could hear very positive feedback from other tables too. I hope to return one day and have no hesitation in recommending this venue.

Dined here on 2/10 and 3/10, lunch and dinner respectively. On both occasions the quality of the food was excellent and the service to match. Ambience modern and interesting, with static displays introducing the beautiful local environment, a small museum with local history material - with provision for commissioning genealogical research - and a shop with Scottish-focused books and local crafts. So much more than just a place to eat - but the home-baked cakes might well dominate the impression. Been in previous years. Keeping up the standards!

What a nice surprise to find the Atlantic Islands Centre cafe on Luing. It's not often you're served almost more King scallop than you can eat, but this was nearly the case. Delicious lunch in a stunning setting overlooking Lunga and up to Mull, and yes a sunny day helped! The cafe is all the more impressive for being community run and I hope they can keep the high quality going. Definitely worth the trip over and I'd be back in a flash.

Came across this place as I believe it was the only place on Luing to eat out. Had seafood chowder which I thought was initially, quite reassuringly expensive. It was worth every penny. The chowder was teeming with fish, dominated by scallops, smoked haddock and a little salmon, with a few veg and potato pieces (normally, restaurant chowders are unfortunately dominated by potato). Was served with seriously good bread. The restaurant was very relaxed, more like a cafe, but the quality of food merits it the restaurant title. I work in a seafood shack in East Lothian which serves particularly good chowder but can say this place serves chowder of a higher quality. Other options look brilliant too. The restaurant was very clean and nicely furnished and loved the information panels around the room, which kept me occupied during the short wait. Portion size was perfectly sufficient, and I, perhaps foolishly ordered a side of chips, which I just couldn’t finish. Overall, highly recommend. Views stunning. Food stunning. The lovely ladies serving were a delight also.

WE took the ferry from Cuan which take about 2minutes and walked to Cuillipool via the beach with our 3 dogs. I believe this is the only restaurant on the island and it has been supported by EU, Lottery Funding among others. The place also has a small visitors centre that highlights island life, the geology of them and local wildlife. It was very interesting to find out about the slate quarries and the challenges of a small island life today. It is very well kept, extremely clean and a great view out of the window. We've been meaning to visit Luing for a long time (25+ years), and only got round to it today. In fairness we had the weather you dream about as a backdrop to Argyll's beautiful small isles so we walked from the ferry terminal to Cullipool and back under a hot sun, deep blue skies reflected in the placid sea and seeing Luing at its absolute best. Being a Sunday the Atlantic Isles Centre was the only public building open (the other is the Isle of Luing Stores and Post Office) but what a lot packed into a small, but very modern building sympathetic to the traditional architectural styles. You can eat well at the cafe-style restaurant with stunning views to the western sea. Local langoustine, scallops, squat lobster and a range of other tempting dishes. We stuck with the soup/sandwich combo which was tasty - brie and cranberry for me and prawn for my wife. I had a wonderfully-chilled Isle of Colonsay blonde beer and my wife had a strawberry and lime cider to accompany the food. After a very lazy lunch we walked round the wildlife interpretive displays then went upstairs to view a well put together local history exhibition. It's gratifying to see investment in places like this in relatively remote rural localities - a fine facility worthy of its wonderful location.

Spent a nice hour or so at this centre, much to see and interesting to the history exhibition as well as the artwork. Had a lovely piece of cake with a cup of tea that tasted like tea with flavour! Nice and fairly strong. The website however needs a bit of tweaking with regards opening hours, today (Thursday 19th April) it stated that the centre was open from 11am - 4pm. Staff member said they were only open until 1.30pm but the sign on the door said 3pm. A bit inconsistent. I totally accept that with a very small number of staff that it is difficult at times to honour these times but maybe a note on the website advising people to telephone first to check may be helpful. However we had a nice time and if in the area would definitely visit again.

We crossed to Luing on the small ferry from Easdale and headed down to the Atlantic Islands Centre, a wonderful community-run venture at Cullipool. We'd been told it was nice but were blown away by the beautiful building, wonderful exhibitions of island history, friendly local staff and great food. What a find! We probably went a bit too late in the day to really take it all in, plus the chef was on his break. However, that didn't detract from the experience and kitchen staff had no problem preparing our meals. My friend who is a vegetarian enjoyed her mushroom soup with lovely sour dough bread, my salmon fishcake was delicious (I am still savouring it) and the menfolks enjoyed their meals too - scampi and chips and the unusual Luing Dressed Crab. We got extra chips (tasted like twice fried) and thank goodness we did as they were great! Glasses of wine and Thisty Cross cider helped to wash down a delicious repast. And all this served while we took in one of the best views on the west coast of Scotland! |Had a great chat with one of the staff who filled us in on the project. Great little shop too. We can't wait to go back and next time will give ourselves a bit longer to look around the fascinating exhibition. All in all a wonderful community venture.

The venue is fantastically situated but service poor and hygiene doubtful. At 1.30pm, we ordered two soups and two mains from the one assistant on duty. The till is located within the kitchen area. I am in the food service industry and observed neither assistant nor chef looked clean and tidy. No hair nets , protective gloves were worn. On the day we were there, I observed the assistant took money, then proceeded to chop up bacon before a chef appeared and took over. The assistant then wiped one hand on his apron and ran it under the cold tap before wiping it again on his apron. He used no soap or paper towels. On the same counter, risking cross contamination, he handled salads onto plates and rolls etc., without tongs. When the soup came, it had to be reheated and my order for gluten free bread forgotten. We were then told there was only one main available, so I ordered another one and waited. Then that became 'unavailable' so I made a third choice which cost extra but not charged up. Side salads were soggy with unappetising dressing, chips crips but with backtaste but scampi well cooked. Basic rules on kitchen hygiene rules do not seem to be followed. Service also needs be be sharpened up before summer season starts. Also, they need to keep track of what is available at the time customer orders and pays. Next time, we will stick to coffee and cake -or take our own picnic and eat outside!!

We changed our order to 2 beef burgers and sat getting very hungry ( which was the only reason we stayed ) and cold. My husband shut the window by our table but all the other windows and the fire exit were also open. Over an hour after we arrived we finally got our burgers which had a wee bit of cold cheese on them and no relish of any sort, the side of chips that we ordered was on the plate not served as a side.....The long awaited burger was a poor excuse for a homemade Scots(!) beef burger, it was very dry and tasteless, the dressing on the salad garnish was too oily for my taste and the chips had a strange taste like the fryer oil had been used for something else. We paid in full and never complained as we were aware that it would have been pointless. The staff need to know that in such an open kitchen the customers can here them.

Fantastic location, friendly staff, great food. A fabulous asset for the island. Not only do you get a lovely meal but you learn a lot about the islands history and culture.

Welcome destination at the end of a beautiful, blustery walk. Had a very tasty lunch then enjoyed a potter round the exhibition. Great views and dog/child friendly, perfect!

We went as a large family group with 2 young children and the staff were so friendly and even read my 18month old a story. They have a little play corner with books and colouring stuff for kids. Most of all the food was delicious, langustine and squat lobster were our favourites. We cycled from Seil which is a beautiful safe cycle for kids and adults :-)

Stayed a week on Luing and visited the centre 4 times during the week, once for lunch, once for tea and cake, once for dinner on Saturday and then finally for their Sunday roast! Each time relaxing and reading more of the displays etc. So clearly we liked it haha. The food was excellent - highlight for me was the Sunday roast and also a chicken burger in a flatbread which was amazing! We took our 7 month old and they had high chairs and were more than happy to make him some broccoli to nibble on too! They have a great selection of lovely homemade cakes which you can have throughout the day or as dessert after a meal. There is plenty to see at the centre and it really tells you a lot about the history of the island - we enjoyed several walks round Cullipool (as well as the rest of Luing) and especially around the old quarry. Keep driving through Cullipool until you come to a big open area on the beach and just have a wonder round this area it's great. Overall I was massively impressed. We come to Luing quite often and it wasn't built last time we came up - i think it is a great addition to the Island. Can't wait to come again

Were on the island for a week and had lunch at the centre. They have home made cakes baked daily. I had cheeseburger which was homemade and yummy. My son in law had soup again home made and delicious and my daughter had a brie and bacon toastie. We had a little wait but worth it as it was All made fresh and served piping hot. The service was friendly and faultless. An exceptional little gem on a diamond island. Fabulous!

Having booked for dinner tonight at the Atlantic Islands Centre, we were served a meal that could not be faulted. Three courses from their Prix Fixe menu for £21.95. Every course was delicious. Excellent value, excellent service, excellent food!

My partner and I were visiting the Island of Luing when we chanced on this little gem. The centre is certainly the hub of the island .It contains a gift shop, visitors centre, coffee shop, and restaurant Internet cafe and many more .We visited to find out about this fascinating slate island . The displays were easy to follow and we learnt a massive amount about the area.We then decided to visit the restaurant in the evening. We had to book and they were busy but fitted us in with only an hours warning. On our return we found the menu small but there was something for everyone . The food was delicious well presented and surroundings beautiful. The staff were fantastic . They were able to advise and help at all times with great courtesy and smiles.Everybody made us feel very welcome and we had a fantastic evening. I really recommend visiting this place if you are in this area .It is even worth taking the short ferry ride to get there. A truly memorable experience Thank you

We called here for lunch. There is a simple menu, but the food is good and well presented, and service was reasonably quick. If they had not had the only kind of soup I actively dislike, and if they had actually had the type of tea I ordered, I would have given them 5 points

This was a great stop over mooring travelling North up to Oban. The moorings are well maintained and safe in a lovely pool that is well out of the strong currents in the Sound of Luing. The Atlantic Islands Centre is an innovative and informative hub and the food and drinks were excellent. The staff were extremely helpful and obviously keen to portray a good image of the island. Over a few days, we walked the length and breadth of the island and were made very welcome every where we went. There is beautiful varied scenery on both sides of the island and plenty of wildlife to see. The overalls at the end of Cuan Sound are spectacular. Perhaps the best part of the stay were the fresh lobster and scallops provided to the side of the boat by Fergus - watch out for him checking his pots in the early evening. There can be nothing nicer than freshly opened scallops cooked straight out of the sea.

On bit of a random day out ended up at Cuillpool. Thought 'what this wee place needs is a cafe' but nor really expecting there to be one as not many tourists around. Turned a corner and there it was - just perfect. Nice staff, great home baking, good coffee, lovely view and also a history lesson. Couldn't be better.

This was a very welcome stop in the middle of a rather cold geological field trip. Great coffee and cakes with an excellent welcome. The museum was worth looking at too, well presented. refreshed and warmed, we could enjoy the sea views to Fladda lighthouse from Cullipool -- before setting off for the iron age forts. They were worth the effort too.

Really nice little cafe/restaurant in a beautiful spot with lovely staff. It's also the visitor centre for the island which was really interesting and it allows dogs on leads. We had ciabatta's which were really good and the cakes looked delicious although we couldn't manage them after our lunch. The island of Luing was very quiet but we loved it - even the mad ferry crossing!

We got the ferry to Luing then hired bikes at the campsite about 2 minutes walk from the ferry. Cycled round the island and ended up at the Atlantic Islands Centre. It is a smart new building in a nice wee village on the western side of the island with stunning views the day we were there.Had drinks and a cake after looking round the displays in the building which were informative. The photos upstairs are very interesting. Prices for drinks were reasonable and staff were helpful and chatty although it wasn't too busy. The main dishes looked nice although can't vouch for them directly as we eyed up other people's plates enviously. Cakes were good.

After a ferry trip from Seil, and a short drive around Luing, we stopped off here & I had a slice of one of the nicest cakes I've ever had (I've had a lot!). Staff were all so pleasant. It's a very long way to go for a slice of cake......but oh so worth it!

Won't be back the owner is so rude . If you pay for drinks in a pub hotel . You expect a thank you. Total anti children our three year old was chatting and we Heard the owners rude comment about him . Also we took her seat . The poor lass who runs hand and foot for this person is so friendly it's the only reason we stayed so long . Won't be back and won't recommend to any of our family and friends that visit the port . Maybe someone will take over the Caledonian and make it a hotel and pub again . We have been visiting the port for 40 years and haven't experienced the unfriendly signal we got from the castle hotel .

What a fantastic find on our recent visit to Inverness. Brilliant wee cafe with extremely friendly staff. Great menu and selection of fresh cakes. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and to top it all they are doggy friendly which meant we didn’t need to leave our 14yr old pooch in the car. Would definitely recommend a visit.
