ASK Italian - Taunton in Taunton Deane

Just an ok experience… food just about eatable, thinking it’s a microwave job now as doesn’t taste anything like freshly made… just tipped out on the plate, lacking any presentation. Staff on their mobiles forgetting drinks order… won’t be returning sadly.

Thank you to Ella and Kyle for a lovely evening yesterday. Very welcoming and cheerful. Really knew how to take care of the customer. Thanks for the tasty food recommendation, and they easily accommodated to my numerous food allergens!

Went in for a meal tonight with the family, service from Daisy was exceptional and Kyle was really friendly. Food was delicious. Will be back!

I'm shocked by the waiting time, just one cook and two people working at the front, they need to be quicker. the food is good.

For à first visit it was amazing.

This is the second time I’ve been here. In my opinion it’s one of the better Ask restaurants. Good manager and good chefs, both times service was attentive and responsive. Last night we did the Easter egg painting experience which came with a reduction off the food bill afterwards. I’d really recommend it, my friends and I enjoyed the creative aspect and the meal was fab too. Great initiative and a good choice if you want to do something different with your mates. More please!

Attended an Easter Egg painting evening here and it was fantastic fun, ended the evening with 3 glorious easter eggs to display at home and had the most fantastic meal afterwards.

Food was acceptable as well as prices. Not impressed with the cleanliness of the place though and the state of some of the tables. Service was ok, friendly staff.

Visited for lunch today. Best meal we’ve ever had at Ask! Had the new Pianta pizza (super creamy and would never guess it was vegan - super crisp base. Beautiful) and a side of Zucchini Fries and Side Salad. All so fresh tasting. Lovely server, and food came out quickly. Will definitely be back again.

It was a busy Friday night, and Ella and her team were on fire! A really jolly vibe all around, with joyous service, great, hearty food and a loving atmosphere. Will be highly recommending them to our friends and family.

Amazing experience! As a veggie it’s sometimes hard to find food that wows me, Ask Italian has done this for me today. What made it even nicer was the service I received from the assistant manager, Kyle (nicest server I’ve met in a long time)! Huge recommend to all the veggies and non veggies alike

Loads of staff but always hard to get their attention when needed

Food very bland and risotto very think and sticky One cubicles in the ladies toilet had toilet roll on floor, hairs in sink and generally looked "tired" Staff looked VERY casual and not sure if there should have been standard colour as there has previously. We will not be returning and others dining also said the same!

Just wanted to take the time to say a massive thank you to the kitchen staff and manager at Ask Italian Taunton for going over and beyond with their service, having a sulphate allergy can be quite difficult and they went over and beyond to make me feel comfortable and make sure my food was not in contact with any other and was safe . Thank you to Ella for taking the time to check everything the chefs for cleaning and making sure it was safe and to the other waitress Niamh xx Thank you for the most enjoyable evening Will come again. xx

Gus and the team at ASK Italian in Taunton were great on Valentine’s Day afternoon, when we were needing a reservation at last minute for a group of 8, on the way back from a day out with children during half term. Excellent welcome, food & service. Great to know that outstanding customer service still exists!

My last time giving Ask Taunton a try. The only good thing I can say is that they are consistent- in poor service & lukewarm food Such a shame and entirely unnecessary.

Food is always delicious. Staff are always friendly. Always love being able to take food away if needed. Ella is awesome!

We had a very bad experience this time,the starters were ok but when they brought the wine to the table the waitress didn't even open the bottle... Never seen that before,the team was nice but a bit unprofessional. Then we wait ages for the food and we needed to ask for our food which they replied that the chef forgot our order... When the food finally arrived,my partner food was burned and my food wasn't what i was expecting.. so in general wasn't a good experience at all. Not recommendable and I'll never go back there again.

Drinks took ages to come out starters came before the drinks. 3/4 of the table had finished their starters before the forth member even got theirs. the forth starter was prawns in shells which is not stated on the menu and they were very plain with little to no flavour. one ordered a margarita pizza with extra goats cheese and received 3 tiny pieces of goats cheese on her pizza. my friends and i carbonara each were luke warm. empty glasses were not taken away from the table. I know you get what you pay for and it’s cheerful but honestly service and food were so poor it’s pass bothering just because the price is lower.

Lovely food and very attentive service from our waitress Niamh. Restaurant is beautifully decorated and they’ve done a great job turning this old Post Office into a restaurant. We’ll definitely be visiting again.

4pm on Valentines day 3 adults and 4 kids looking for quick bite to eat. Having initially being turned away from Wildwood up the road by rude staff because they were "apparently" full, (the place was empty), we found ASK Italian up the road. Table for 7, no problem. We joked that at least some staff are welcoming and friendly, and staff member said, let me guess you've been to Wildwood. Apparently not the 1st customers they had turned away this afternoon. ASK food was delicious coupled with impeccable service from all staff, especially Gus. We were done by 5.30. So if your looking for decent Italian meal in Taunton forget Wildwood and go straight to ASK Italian

It was pretty awful the service was terrible we weren't even offered water and nobody asked if everything was alright my husband was supposed to have meatballs on his dinner but they were crushed and he had cold sauce on his starter but the seabass was OK

Nearly 2 hour wait for a pizza. When they arrived they were over-cooked. Must be the worst restaurant in Taunton

Went on Sunday 28th January and the server was definitely in the top 5 servers I've had ever. Very polite and helpful. We went for a birthday and an extra couple of people showed up but it wasn't an issue whatsoever. There was an issue with one of the pizzas not coming out but they were very apologetic and we didn't mind the wait because they were so good about it. Also, couldn't fault the food at all. Was exactly as expected and very tasty. Will definitely be going back.

Visited on a Thursday afternoon. It was very quiet with only a few diners in there, so the atmosphere was not as satisfying as other times I've visited when they have been full, but for some, the quietness may be welcome. The food is exceptional, really flavoursome and not too expensive. The service was excellent. Nice and clean in the restaurant area and bathrooms.

Sadly a hangover from Christmas and the New Year celebrations i think. Not sure what to say about our experience this time around as we've never had such bad service before. From a main meal being forgotten about entirely, and the rude manager who really didn't care whether the 6 of us were there or not to discount coupons not being honoured due to what was explained as a change in redemption rules which begs the question, when is a reward an actual reward or when is an Ask Italian Perk not a Perk? I'm very sorry to say that due to our experience, our son's 40th birthday celebration in which we will have 12 in the party, won't be booking this restaurant.... shame!

Lovely evening at the ask Italian, served by Niamh who was great and kept the table water topped up. Started off with the mushroom al forno, followed by the mushroom ragu, and now I don’t have mushroom for more!

Extremely long wait. It wasnt busy either just very slow. Chilly and flat atmosphere.

Pizza sizes have shrunk dramatically whilst prices have risen since we visited in October. Staff were very good as usual.

Only rated as 1 star as nothing in minus numbers. Had butterfly prawn that was like rubber and was inedable, carbanara that was worse than the worst microwave meal you can buy. Couldn't eat it. Friend had pizza with little to no topping and the base wasn't cooked properly. Was horrible. Waited ages for food even though pre booked as was a works Christmas party and they were given a list of everyone's order priour to the event. Food came out at different times. Waitress was very nice but seemed she had been thrown in at the deepend and hadn't had sufficient training to cope with the situation. Waited so long for the drinks that some of us went to the nearest bar and had a drink. When we came back our drinks were then served to us. That's how long it took! Wouldn't recommend to anyone

Staff not paying any attention to us. After ordering the drinks, we waited 20 mins, and had to ask again how long we would have to wait. My partner ordered pasta but the waiter forgot about parmesan, until we asked about it. The food was delicious. After the main meals we were offered a menu with deserts. I asked if we could have more water. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to ask for the bill as the water never arrived while the staff were chatting and giggling (3 young girls). Other clients also tried to have their attention, unsuccessfully. Overall, the FOOD was VERY NICE but the SERVICE really POOR.

Food orders confused, long delays, really not good ! Manager said lots of new staff and DID give us a discount but the whole experience of celebrating a birthday was ruined !

I think they must have been having an off day they were not at all busy but the food wasn't up to standard and we were there 3 hrs on a Sunday night, in my opinion the service was extremely poor

Ella was our waitress and she was absolutely lovely. She was polite and friendly, and really made us feel at home. We both had allergies and she stayed to help us when we had any questions. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. Definitely coming again and recommending to all my friends!

Food is good, but everything is very slow.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a local as a great place for authentic Italian cuisine. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience with food that was undercooked and subpar. After sharing our concerns with the staff, we were then notified that the chef had called in sick that day. The redeeming quality was the excellent customer service by Kirsty and Stan (acting manager) who went above and beyond to make our experience as good as possible under the circumstances. Stan is an asset to the restaurant, and had it not been for his professionalism and excellent customer service then this would have been a 1-star review.

The Pizza was great and the staff were friendly. The food was delivered relatively quickly. However, the tables were not clean.

Appalling customer service! Watched our drinks sit on the bar for 15 minutes, waiting for someone to carry them two metres to our table, then waited an hour for food asked where it was to be told they had missed our ticket walked out at this point hungry after driving 20 miles to eat there will never return

It's ok if you want to have some decent food but it's always booked and you have to make sure you got a booking. The food is pricey for what you get but they do traditional Italian food.

The best dining experience I've had in years. We booked a last minute meal for my husband's birthday. Our daughter is recovering from surgery so we weren't sure whether we would be able to celebrate so it was a last minute booking for 14 people, 6 of which are aged 7 months to 4 years. As you can imagine, with so many young kids it can be rather chaotic, but the staff excelled in catering to our needs and keeping the kids happy and entertained (subsequently making the parents happy!). They put out decorations on the table to mark the occasion and Ella, who I believe was a manager, could see we needed to get the kids settled so proactively suggested she brought out their starters to give us time to select our food, with less distraction from the kids. Everyone had a great time, the food was some of the best food I've had in ages. A hugely varied menu despite being an Italian and all empty plates returned. I brought cupcakes for my husbands birthday, which they kindly brought over to us to do the usual happy birthday song and blowing of candles and they presented it beautifully on a board, decorated with strawberries. The staff just got it and got us. They could easily have perceived us as a large difficult party (and I wouldn't have blamed them!) but instead they were just a dream to us. Couldn't have asked for more of them and already seeking and excuse to return. I really hope head office see this review with special mention to Ella and Jon.

Very good service. Called to book a table and spoke to Ryan who got this done quickly and when in the restaurant he and the other staff were very friendly. When we asked Ryan what he recommended he was very knowledgeable. The food was excellent and the restaurant itself has a good atmosphere.

Normally Ask in Truro is good. We had eaten in Ask in Yeovil about 7 or 8 times and the food is normally great but the last time we went there we were let down by the service, absolutely dreadful. I booked for the Taunton Ask a week in advance. It was busy (Thursday) as Noel Gallagher was in town, so I expected it to be slow. The young gentleman who served us was great and did his best, and at no point did he let the side down. But it did look like it was understaffed, and the service is marked down because three times we tried to pay and get out. We spend as much time trying to get the bill as we did for everything else.

Food was nice, staff friendly. Had to ask for the table to be cleaned of the previous occupants' mess, had to try and get staff's attention to ask for parmesan and a spoon for my daughter's spaghetti. Waited 20 mins to try and attract attention to ask for dessert, only to be told that the chef was now on his break. The waiter kindly made it for us.

Was busy. Service wasn't great waited around 30minutes for someone to come over and get our drinks order. Mains weren't a good size, we were all hungry after!

Lovely clean and great choice of tables. The app makes ordering and paying so easy and straight forward. No waiting for the bill to arrive! Lots of menu choices and often a good value set menu. Staff always friendly and helpful.
