Delicious food as always, service impeccable by Wren. Always recommend

Lovely venue that clearly takes care of the historical location it is located in. The food and service is great too.

While the staff were lovely (especially with a teenager who was being a pain about choosing in our group), we found that it took a significant amount of time to actually get our food, and the food was… less than stellar. The Caesar salad “croutons” were more like just massive chunks of bread in a bowl and the pollo Milanese had less sauce on the greens than the average gossip magazine.. overall just disappointing for our group. Overall it was ok, but not quite as nice as we were hoping for.

Wonderful location, especially knowing the history, it being the assembly room where lots of balls and musical events took place in the 19th century.

I have dietary requirements and Harley was easy going and talked to the kitchen in my behalf. Everything was perfect!

Sadly, 2x cold pizzas and a well below par bolognese. Was offered items to be re-cooked, but sadly I'm uninterested as I didn't want to wait another 25minutes. Bill was adjusted and all staff very professional and kind. C'mon guys, just sort the food out!

Had lunch here and really enjoyed it. The historic building is impressive. The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was really great. I love the idea of the option of a coffee/tea with a mini dessert! Looking forward to going again.

Pretty poor, sauce for starter was so similar to main meal. Chicken should have been marinaded, but was basically just sliced chicken in a very basic tomato sauce with garlic? Service wad OK however but let down by the quality.

We were served by a Delightful waitress Sophie Very attentive and helpful. The food was perfectly cooked, and the restaurant is a beautiful building. We will be back x All the staff are helpful and welcoming ! Give it a try highly recommended!

Perfectly located in York City centre, ASK Italian has a warm, calm atmosphere with a vast menu providing many choices for my family of fussy eaters. Our attentive server, Erin, was knowledgeable, personable and efficient helping us choose the perfect meals to enjoy in the grand restaurant.

Service really good , nice food but hard to read menu in dim lighting

Dined here yesterday for my grandson's birthday, party of 6. Wheelchair accessible 😁 Beautiful resturant, service top notch, friendly staff, food was amazing, great atmosphere, amazing decor. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table (we didn't book) given free shots of pink lemonade, which we all enjoyed. Childrens menu was great for the price of £7.50, for a starter, main and dessert. We would definitely recommend this venue.

Never been to ask Italia before and won't be going back in the near future. I ordered lasagna which very poor like something you would buy from a supermarket not at all good in any way. My wife ordered a Risotto dish with prawn's once again tasteless with about 3 prawn's. I would not recommend eating here.

This will always be one of my favourite places to eat in York. The building is gorgeous. Who doesn't love marble pillars and candelabras with their pizza? The staff were fantastic on this visit and very patient when I was having technical issues!

We were served by Katie W. Who was so lovely, we'd come in for a 50th birthday and she offered to take the cupcakes we brought with us so they weren't in the way and when they brought them back out at the end they'd lit one with a candle and did a lovely display on a tray (which we'd never requested them to do so wa really kind of them) Katie was lovely and really friendly. Would definitely recommend, thanks again Katie!

We went to Ask Italian today. The food was Ace, the staff were helpful but didn't seem very happy, nobody smiled when they talked to you which was sad to see. Please tell them what a great job they do and what great food they serve.

Visited as a family with a pram. We had booked in advance just prior to the teatime rush and were seated with no issues at all. It wasn't busy which was nice as felt we had lots of room. The building itself is lovely but I agree with a prior review in that it does feel a bit like a canteen, needs a bit of theming to help. I had looked at the menu in advance to decide what I wanted however on the menu provided in the restaurant there was only the meat version. It became apparent this is an error and the version I wanted does infact exist. This always worries me incase I accidentally get given a meat version but there was a sticker on the plate reassuring me it was definitely vegan which was a nice touch. We didn't wait long at all from ordering to receiving the food. The app to order was good as you can remove ingredients etc but it didn't work! Took ages to do our order for it to just reset everytime so ended up ordering eith the server. Who was very nice and helpful. My food was lovely and the kids also enjoyed theirs. My other half felt a bit let down by his feeling the chicken was a bit dry. The accessible toilets weren't bad but no toilet roll available. The female toilets were the worst I've ever come across in a restaurant and that I cludes wetherspoons. Flushes broken, no toilet roll in one. Urine soaked floor covered in mud. Soap barely available. Absolutely vile. Sadly couldn't feed this back in the survey ASK emailed after the visit as this wasn't a question asked and no comments boxes. I would have mentioned this to a member of staff but they were nowhere to be found with the restaurant being busier as we were leaving. Noone checked on our us during our meal or offered any other drinks either. It's a shame as the food itself I thought was delicious and it's rare to find so many veggie options that are a bit different as well.

Our server Emily was lovely and accommodated food allergies very well. The place looks great, very fancy, but the prices are alright.

Really beautiful environment. Free lemonade shots on arrival. The waiter couldn’t have been more accommodating of my allergy - giving me the allergy book to check for myself. Friendly staff and fast service. Make sure you order the Biscoff Cheesecake.

The food was really tasty, I brought my friends from out of York here to see the building and we had a lovely meal. We we’re looked after really well by Emily who was lovely!

Food is really good but I give it only 4 stars because it doesn't have that Italian spirit in it. It tastes like interpretation of an Italian cuisine. Tasty but there's something missing to give it 5 stars. There's definitely a WOW factor as soon as you walk in. This is the best Ask Italian interior I have seen so far. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

Gorgeous food,gorgeous surroundings and brilliant service.

We have been here a number of times and love the grandeur of the building. Food and service has been good. We came tonight before the theatre and again service was good. We ordered pizza and chips. We only eat chips as a treat and asked for plain mayo which we love when we have chips. I was assured there was no mayo in the house apart from garlic mayo which we weren’t keen on. No mayo in a restaurant?? (Had I had salad, I would also have wanted (non garlic) mayo).

I cannot say this us good italian food but it isn't terrible food. If you're going here expecting authentic italian food you'll be disappointed, however the atmosphere was very good and the service as well.

I feel compelled to write a review for this particular Ask Italian, not only as they offer Vegan options, but the building they operate from. It’s absolutely stunning and you feel very special dining in such a beautiful setting. Photos don’t do it justice but I will add some anyway. I had a Vegan lentil dish, hubby had a Vegan pizza and both had the new sticky toffee pudding with Vegan ice cream. Bottle of Vegan Prosecco too, so all in all a very relaxed and romantic evening for my husband and I.

We had to wait to get a table. Starter came quickly then waited 45 minutes for mains which was cold and sent back and replaced with fresh food. All we got was an apology no reason given . Lunch turned into dinner .
