Ashton's Coffee Lounge in Mid Devon

Lovely staff greeted us on our way in - excellent with our young boys. Food was quick and tasty, reasonably priced. We’ll certainly be back!

Had a lovely lunch with our grandsons last Saturday. Service was excellent staff were really helpful,and food was delicious. Great variety of yummy cake too!,

Really disappointed that their food hygiene rating has been 1 out of 5 for quite a while now. Myself and our other family members used to go here a lot until we saw the hygiene rating as we like the place and the people a lot. Hope they sort it soon so we can return.

Overstuffed - seven staff members (4 girls stood around doing nothing). We ordered eggs Benedict and got eggs royale. Snotty eggs, awful little bit of shrivelled salad and no condiments or salt and pepper or sugar in the table. We asked for sugar but it never arrived. One toilet up a flight of stairs in what looked like an outhouse. Best avoided

This coffee shop is in a very quaint position .lovely to sit outside overlooking the square .cheapest one around a selection of others .

Clearly popular with locals. A pleasant outside seating area on the square. Good coffee, toasted melts and soup of the day. Efficient and friendly crew under pressure on a busy market day in this attractive. Doggy friendly inside and out. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

What a lovely little spot for lunch. We were warmly welcomed in and shown a menu that had an excellent selection. The ploughman's was a full plate, great value for money. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommend and if we're ever in the area again we will be back.

Food was disgusting, don't know how they pass their food inspections. Prawns on Jacket Potato impossible to eat so putrid. When I complained they said thanks for letting them know. Please do not eat here.

Took a seat on the sunny square and ordered a cappuccino and Jacket Potato with cheese, beans and salad and it was delicious! Really nice customer service and it was a busy day, excellent value and great that it has indoor and outdoor seating.

How on earth could I have forgotten quite how fantastic the food here is! Well-thought-out prices. Food that sets a remarkably high standard! I wish there were more businesses as refreshingly good as this one is!

I have been here a few times and it’s always been a nice experience. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and there’s a good selection. Great location being right in the centre of Crediton. There is a choice of indoor or outdoor seating which is great for the warmer months. The only thing that lets it down in the colder months is the size of the cafe as it’s quite often full which has meant that I’ve gone elsewhere but I guess that is a positive as it shows how many people this place.

Visiting Crediton for the first time, saw this beautiful little coffee shop in the Market square, we had a lovely lunch, jacket potato with a great sized salad.

When the Mother’s Group turn up at Lunchtime, they take over the place and bully you out of your seats. Don’t bother - especially on a Tuesday at Noon.

Great service, lovely cakes and luxury hot chocolate. Came as a last minute visit into Crediton and saw that this was busy, glad we popped in!

Went out in search of an English breakfast and they provided! Rain started pouring and because we couldn’t sit outside they delivered the breakfast they put together to our vehicle! Outstanding service and delicious food.

Finally We can be treated to there excellence it’s standard! Love the staff, the menu, the great ingredients, Great Value Great Service! Didn’t expect the Thank You sticker Happy to invest local 🌈😎

We particularly like going to Ashton's in the summer and sitting outside in the Square. Steve and Beth and all the staff are always friendly.

Although a limited menu (snacks and sandwiches) all freshly prepared amazing quality we had breakfast smoked salon & scrambled eggs yummy. Coffee and tea with refills from as little as 50p a real hidden gem.

Back with my brother again and another 2 visits. Always good and friendly service. Excellent coffee and great value. Lovely cakes and our favourite tuna melt panini. Look forward to returning

We always love going to Ashton’s when we visit Crediton. The best cup of coffee you will get and it’s a coffee. They sell just a real, coffee! Staff are always so friendly and lovely with my two eight year olds. It’s amazing value for money and a real family favourite. Great cakes, great atmosphere, great place.

Down with my brother so managed to get 2 visits in. Lovely coffee - Victoria Sponge one day, carrot cake the next. Great service. Unfortunately the Princess chair taken both times...

Called today for a quick lunch. Had to be quick as on street parking is for only 45 minutes for som reason only known to Crediton council!Food was good and came quickly. Price ok. Four sandwiches and four cold drinks were just shy of £19.Young lad serving put food down so quick the tortilla chips slid off on to table. He helpfully picked them up and put them back onto plate, then left!Overall nice place though.

We love popping in here as the menu is varied and you can always find something tasty. The staff are friendly and the service super quick even when busy. Good value for money too.

Not bad, only takes cash though and the manners of the younger staff seemed a little rough. Could do with being a little more helpful.

This is a fabulous little coffee shop. Set on the corner of the market square, it's handy for the post office and it's nice to wander down from the high street. It's friendly, independent and amazingly inexpensive. The range of drinks is good and they are well made and delicious. The staff are friendly and welcoming. You order at the counter but your drinks are brought to you. There's a discount on your second drink if you return the cups to the counter. There's a great range of hot snacks as well as a choice of home made cakes. On sunny days you can sit outside and watch the world go by.

Wonderful homely prepared things & great cakes . The owner feels more like a friend when I visit . The staff all seem happy & contented , another good sign . When you visit Crediton you must visit Ashton's Coffee Lounge in the market place

To be fair , we are regulars. Ashtons provides great value, friendly local service, an outdoor option in the lovely market square and a sensible range of simple fayre.

A popular, good-value local cafe. My mum and dad loved it when they last visited. Feels like the hub of the market square. Good honest food with great service.

A super place with outside seating and lots of tables inside. Good snack menu, cakes, scones, tea and coffee. Well run by pleasant staff.

Went with my family for branch. Staff are not interested, the food is bland and I had a query with cleanliness as the waitress prepared our food using her bare hands and not washing them after touching items of food. She happily went from fishing out olives from a jar to taking tuna out of a tin. When she finished she rinsed her hands and wiped them on the one of tea towels drying on the coffee machine, used to dry cups.

Lovely lunch. and good coffee. Also very inexpensive. Friendly atmosphere . Busy little coffee lounge but no one rushing you, you can take your time to enjoy . Good selection of food . Visited with family at the end of our holiday. The staff were very friendly, the service quick and efficient and the food was exceptionally grood value for money, couldn’t fault it.

The staff are exceptionally friendly , the service is prompt. The fare is not adventurous but good. The let down is the decor. The carpet looked dirty , the bathroom grubby , the loo only just worked , and some of the chairs either needed cleaning or replacing .

Always stop at Ashtons when in Crediton as the location on the square is lovely, the staff pleasant, the service quick and the prices exceptionally modest - in fact the other people in our party of four thought the bill was a mistake as four coffees and a toasted tea cake were just £6 and they are used to paying that for two coffees. Nice to see that the high standards have been maintained over the years.

Always enjoy a lunch at Ashton's. Don't forget to leave room for a cake. Fantastic friendly team that remember customers by name. They also do outside catering. Keep up the good work.

New to Crediton, we had been advised to look in The Square for a lunch venue. In the glorious sunshine, Ashtons had a buzz even outside, & we were drawn to it. Lots of happy diners, & we soon joined them. Delicious food : we chose jacket potato with Coronation chicken & salad, followed by really mouth watering chocolate cake, washed down with excellent Yorkshire tea. Fun to have sugar lumps, & a really generous jug of milk. The service couldn't have been more friendly or efficient, & the prices were modest. Definitely a place to remember & return to. Thank you to all the staff.

Friendly atmosphere, good lunch menu, seems to be a popular (but not crowded or noisy) spot. Parking on the side street with a view across the square and some outdoor tables for fine weather.

Spending 3 days with my brother meant 2 visits here. Great coffee. Superb cakes and pleasant service. Even had a lunch this time - tuna melt panini. Will be back

Love Ashton's. Regularly drop in for coffee or lunch. Always made to feel welcome and staff remember regulars and go extra mile for their visitors. Food always fresh and made to order. Light meals only. Prices very reasonable and atmosphere homely and cosy. Nothing too much trouble. Dogs welcome and seating outside for warmer days....or colder ones if you feel the urge to wrap up and sit outside. Perfect location for town square. Parking close by.

This coffee Lounge is well situated in Crediton near the town centre.

Called in late morning for the first time to this very popular coffee lounge. Was very impressed with both the quality of the hot chocolate and the extremely reasonable price. It was popular with mums with babies in prams through to more elderly people. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I am looking forward to going there again.

Back with my brother. This time the Princess chair was vacant so I rushed to it. I went for a slice of coffee cake and my brother his usual Millionaires shortbread. Coffee great as before. Mine with hot milk my brother with cold. Surprised at the previous review ‘shocking’ but then noticed that it was the reviewers first and only review which usually says more about the reviewer than the establishment. Keep up the good work - Ashton’s service, ambience and quality spot on in my humble opinion.

Me and my boyfriend visited this coffee shop when we were visiting my family and the coffee was disgusting and the price clearly shows the quality, clearly bought at the cheapest possible price. As for the 'De-caf' coffee it clearly wasn't de-caf to anyone thinking of buying it. You can smell the horrible stench as soon as you walk in and this clearly shows it is not cleaned and looked after properly, the place stank as soon as we walked in!! Low prices, poor quality won't be going back...

Returned today with brother after he had haircut next door. 2 lovely coffees with hot milk on the side. I have to say the coffee here is delicious and great value. I went for the nicest carrot cake I have had for a long time. My brother his usual chocolate slice. Can't wait until my return in November

We sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed a classic British lunch - a good choice of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, soup and paninis. Very tasty fresh food, very well presented, and excellent prices - for example a massive mug of tea is £1. This is a great place for light lunch or tea and cake.

The range of food here is fairly limited but the prices are good and it is probably the cheapest coffee in town. The location is lovely, set just on the side of the market square with some nice outdoor seating and some comfy chairs inside.

Julie and Steve have been at Ashton's for a few years now, and they have made a real success of it. There is always a welcome, and it is definitely a place for people to meet for a sandwich and a cup of tea. Very relaxed and friendly.

This is such an adorable little café. The staff are really lovely, the decor is pretty and quaint, the menu is good with a great variety at reasonable prices. I love the not chocolate :)The Breastfeeding welcome sign on the window is a fabulous addition especially for new and nervous mums.

After hearing/reading rave reviews I popped in with a friend recently. Asked for ham sandwich on granary bread with no butter. Asked if it came with coleslaw only to be told "we don't do coleslaw" (it came with salad & about 5 tortilla chips & no alternative such as mayo was offered). More attention was apparently being paid to my top which the young lad told me "your badge is upside down". A fact I had been aware of all day because the back is loose. Food was average. Prices reasonable. However, lots of staff stood around/hovering near us as we ate & waiting for a table to clear or something to serve. Felt rushed to free up the table. Rather crowded at one end. Will try one of the other tea rooms/coffee lounges in future.

I have eaten here before. Why I come back is simple. Value. Tasty dressing on salad. Good, basic, well cooked food. Quirky decor. Nice location too.

Visited hoping to have a nice breakfast. Unfortunately there was an extremely limited choice. Not your usual range of cafe breakfasts at all. The coffee was dreadful. However, the people and the location were so pleasant I would still go back to try it for tea and cake. Prices were extremely reasonable.

I have had coffee here a lot of times and loved it. In the past I have had salads there too and they are beautiful. I love the price of the coffee as well.

We are fairly local so stopped in to try this place for a change. The only good thing is the price - the coffee was like dishwater, the mince pies were from the super market, and the cupcakes were stale, hard, tasteless. The service was friendly but the standard was too poor to see us back again

A nice place to go for an OK cup of coffee and cake. The pro about visiting here is the price. The con is that it just isn't that great. It attracts plenty of custom though, so it's doing something right.

Lovely little cafe in the square serving nice fresh food at a very reasonable price. Lovely place to take children, they will love the clock.

This is one of three coffee shops overlooking the revamped town square but is a definite favourite, Firstly, the outdoor seating is nice but also close enough so that if there is a sudden shower - which there was during our most recent visit - you can quickly head inside and slump on to a comfy sofa instead. The staff are very pleasant and service is slick and efficient. Plus it is incredibly good value - mugs of coffee and tea just £ 1 - a huge toasted tea-cake again £ 1 - even a latte is only £ 1.50. Our group of 4 would willingly have paid more but I guess this is a competitive corner of the town for coffee shops. Certain to return.

It was the first place we found in Crediton on Sunday open for lunch. The food was great & the service even better, even going as far getting the going as far as getting one of the people from the St Boniface celebration to come in & explain it to us

The cappuccinos here are great and you get great service too would defiantly recommend to anyone who loves a great coffee

Came in today with my family and friends for the first time , all the staff were lovely and happy. Had a slice of carrot cake and a milkshake. It was spot on, will be coming back for more. Yummy!

This is our local coffee lounge now, the staff are lovely, the coffee good (and refills) and the food cheap, when it's a little warmer we'll be in the market square alfresco.Lovely place.

We nipped in here for a snack, ciabatta and a toastie, coffee and yummy hot chocolate with cream and marsh mallows --I ignored the chocolate flake! Very pleasant atmosphere,nice people, definitely recommend this cafe.

You only have to look through the windows to see how popular this cafe is with all ages.Be prepared for a shock when you order a couple of excellent coffees and you are only asked for £2. I'd normally pay more than that for one at any of the big chains. The coffee is good and there is also a good range of snack type food available.Where else, when you sit outside does the proprietor bring doggy treats for your pet along with your drinks? Possibly the friendliest place to have a coffee in the country.And by the way you can have a refill of your favourite drink for 50p. Say no more!

Popped in here after school with my son. Lemon cake was amazing and my son had a delicious flapjack. Good selection of fresh cakes even though it was so late in the day. It's so lovely in here. The staff are very friendly. We ordered a milkshake and the owner bought out the rest of the tub of ice cream for my son to finish! Definitely recommend coming here. A real gem in Crediton.

I love visiting Ashton's as do my children and wife. Cakes to die for, great coffee, and a good selection of light bites. Very comfortable inside, with sofas, armchairs and the more traditional table and chairs. The staff are always friendly and cheerful with great service. Well worth a visit to take the weight off your feet and indulge yourself with some wonderful cake to tantalise your taste buds!

Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy chairs you just sink into whilst taking time out there. The sort of place that makes linger a little longer.

We don't live in the area but we visit as often as we can and always call in here for afternoon tea. Greeted by a lovely warm welcome and an extensive menu there is nothing to fault. I can thoroughly recommend the scone, jam and cream because when in Devon.......!
