Ashoka in Eastbourne

Fabulous lamb rogon josh. Best lunch I have had in Eastbourne. Perfect service and fair pricing. I forgot to mention the shish kebab was also very tasty. This restaurant is a real gem.

Excellent selection of food to choose from - including vegetarian options. We had the vegetable kurma (packed with at least 6 different vegetables) and chicken kurma, alongside absolutely delicious coconut pilau, and mushroom pilau. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommended.

Always a wonderful welcome at this lovely restaurant. Great food, fabulous flavours and a nice varied menu. Our favourites are the chicken madras & chingri prawns with side dishes, the naan breads are always lovely & fluffy…well worth a visit.

Absolutely delicious food. A lovely selection of dishes. Very reasonable prices too. When asked they even cooked some chips for my little boy as he isn’t into trying Indian food yet. He’s only 6. Very clean and very attentive service. It was my son’s 16th birthday lunch and we were very pleased we chose Ashoka restaurant.

Food never arrived. Restaurant was not answering calls and yet they set on the app that they had delivered the food.

We visited on a Wednesday evening, food was good staff were polite, cost was very reasonable. The wine list is mainly for whole bottles but as I the only one drinking wine, the choice for a glass is very small. I had a Rose, it was a cheap wine. But other than that we had a lovely evening

The masala sauce was too runny for my liking and had leaked all over the order. Also the sauce tasted a little too strong for my own personal taste. I prefer a thicker creamier sauce. Also, I personally like my onion bhajis crispy and these weren’t. They were ok, they tasted fine, just not my favourite Indian meal.

Very disappointing to be presented with a below average Indian meal. We love our curries and we were looking forward to a treat night out. It was exactly the opposite. Papadoms were soggy, pickles pretty tasteless. Tandoori paneer came out sizzling and promising but it was barely cooked, lacking flavour and the wonderful charred tandoori oven texture. The waiter asked if we would like the salad that goes with it. We said 'yes please' and he bought us a couple of wilted lettuce leaves, badly presented and bland. All the mains and sides we ordered (too many to mention by item) lacked any sense of the rich spices and uniqueness of Indian food. Nan bread was dry and... You guessed it, flavourless. I so wish this had been a good meal, it's not often I complain. Usually our family can find something good to comment on when we eat out, even if it's not top-notch. Sadly we have no positive comments for the Ashoka.

Still the best Indian restaurant in Eastbourne by far ! Always great food and great service . A lovely atmosphere and a very comfortable restaurant.

We ordered paneer tikka and onion bhaji in statter, which was okay paneer tikka had no salt. In the mains we went for paneer jalfrezi and paneer chilli masala, it was too spicy as an Indian I do eat spicy food but not this much anyway taste was good garlic naan which was amazing and tasty. We also had chana masala in currys which was good too

Asoka is my go to resturant when in Eastbourne. I have dined there many time. Ordered a takeaway on Sunday with lots of starters and everything was Amazing. Food was so tasty and flavoursome. It arrived and it was piping hot. Lovely staff. Definitely recommend. Even called the restaurant to let them know we all thoroughly enjoyed it

Half the sauce in one container had emptied in to the bag so everything was covered and it was a real mess. Not ideal

You must have a different chef on since the last time we ordered It isn't quite so delicious. All the dishes taste the same. Still nice though. Maybe better next time.

The curry was spicy which I love a spicy curry but it was really watery which ruined it over all I had madras normally I go for vindaloo but they didn't do it the lamb was nice though and decent amount of meat you get just personally thicken up the sauce and bit more flavouring it would of been the best curry I had if those issues was solved and orded on just eat and the curry was spilt all over the bag and the plan naan bread was burnt on the bottom I was abit disappointed trying out a new curry place as my curry place was shout on bank holiday today the spice and the meat was really nice though

I wasn’t in when food delivered, had an emergency. I arrived 15 mins later there was no delivery at my door

As always, excellent food, excellent service and fantastic staff! My brother and sister in law were visiting and I couldn’t think of a better place to take them for a Birthday celebration. Thank you to all the staff for making the evening so memorable. We’ll be back soon!

Best Indian in Eastbourne since curry leaf closed.

Wonderful staff, attentive friendly and couldn't do more for you. Only thing that let the place down and was nothing to do with the staff was some of the route patrons, calling out for drinks, snapping fingers, shouting and hollering. Families of 5 just being rude and chavvy. Well done to the staff for being professional and rising above it. As for the rude people, stick to takeaways.

Friendly and helpful staff, quick service too. The food arrived promptly, was hot and a good size portion. I had the garlic rice and Jalfrezi. The taste and flavours were excellent with the right amount of tender chicken pieces. Highly recommend.

First time trying here tonight, wonderful experience. Lovely, friendly and polite waiters and managers. Great portion size! Delicious food, full of flavour and lots of options on the menu. Will be back very soon. Highly Recommended.

Probably the best Indian cuisine in Eastbourne.

We had a delicious meal on Sunday night. My friend and I hadn't seen each other in ages and asked if we could take our time to order, eat etc so we could chat. The staff were amazing. Thank you for a lovely non rushed evening

Ordered a takeaway for delivery on Friday 16 March. Upon arrival, there was oily grease over all containers. One of the orders was for a chana sag which arrived as a chana masala despite the person taking the order double checking my order. The poppadoms were not crisp. There was even a 20p charge for a flimsy plastic bag which the takeaway arrived in. By the time I had cleaned up, I wasn't in the mood for eating although the food was acceptable. Will never use this as a takeaway again.

Just had a beautiful evening at Ashoka Indian . Very warm welcome and was seated by the window. Appreciate the red rose on the beautifully crisp table linen. Very friendly helpful staff. Started with very fresh light popadoms with very plentiful dips. The sizzling tikka chicken was hot and cooked to perfection. Chicken tikka masala in a very tasty sauce full of flavour. Accompanied by a very light fluffy pilo rice and I want the recipe for the mushroom bhaji just yummy plus the very popular crispy onion bhaji. Absolutely loved it all and will be back very soon. Good quality of house white wine 👍😁. Highly recommend the who.e experience. Thank you 👍😁❤️

The food was obviously freshly cooked and of good quality, ie large chunks of chicken in the mains. The Chicken Tikka Masala lacked something and was a bit bland, no depth of flavour in the very dark red sauce and was devoid any barbecue taste. The Khari chicken was different and well received, though very mild. It would help if there was an indication as to spiciness on the menu. The Sheek Kebab was very tender and delicious. We were very happy that pilau rice was included in the price of the main courses which made the meal fair value for money. The delivery driver was very friendly and charming.

Ordered for collection. Chicken tikka masala was delicious , rich red sauce and flavoursome! Naan was a bit charred and my puri (chicken chaat) had stuck together but I collected it a bit late so this could be down to it steaming up in the packaging. Friendly atmosphere when I went into collect. Fairly reasonable price & curry & chaat were delicious!!

The food seems to have very little taste my tikka was as it had been dipped not marinated. We were seated between 2 laid groups of 8 on each table . All there meals.looked the same. The bombay potatoes where the best part if the meeal and the only had a nice sauce the onions were raw and basically I would not recommend. I have been to many curry restaurants in the last 30 years . This being the worst I suggest you avoid

I expected better, the food was very bland no depth of taste. 2 of the dishes seemed to have the same sauce despite having different names. Poppadum tasted of old oil which we couldn’t eat, & they served us the wrong Naan (although they did replace both) overall a disappointing experience.

Every time I return to Eastbourne, Ashoka is a must visit. Very rich!

My friend booked this restaurant as I'd asked for a curry during my stay and appearance at Wyntercon 2023. It was close enough to walk to, and she was already seated when we arrived. Menus on the table waiting The staff were welcoming, took our orders quickly and the food arrived in double quick time too. We were all a bit boring, choosing our favourite dishes, not in the mood to experiment with new dishes. All the food was very good and none of us managed to eat all of it. I thing that did slightly irk me was the staff continually hovering close by. This was made more obvious by the giantic mirror on the wall in front of me where I could observe every move they made. Rarely did 2 minutes go by when one, or more, member of staff appeared and scanned our table. My thoughts? Either they are employing too many staff, or the staff have been given specific orders to move guests in and out as fast as possible to achieve as high a turnover in money is possible. It was saturday night after all. Solution? Maybe move the mirror to where it doesn't make their incessant hovering so annoying. We were asked twice about drinks, and they took the food order at the same time.

We recently tried fried rice, chicken tikka from this restaurant and it was not bad. It was very Oily and chicken was dry. I think you need to keep in mind these things when you are serving in future. Totally it was 3/5

I think the chef forgot the salt, pepper and any other seasoning the night we visited. Garlic Nan was devoid of garlic, rice was bland and the curries were interchangeable in some kind of red sauce. Nice service but could do with some Indian desserts to complement the photos of the ready made stuff they nodded up after the meal.

Visited this Indian Restaurant for the first time in Eastbourne to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were very informative on explaining their dishes. I tried something new and can’t wait to try it again.

Called for a takeaway, delivered the wrong food. Called and they wouldn’t have it.. insisting it was correct!! It wasn’t!! ended up in the bin. Waste of our time & money. Have used many times . I’ve also emailed but no reply, (could have been easily resolved )not interested.. will go elsewhere now. Such a shame.

Be warned, this restaurant don’t accept their own gift vouchers, not least without an argument! A good friend gave us an Ashoka voucher as a birthday present and we had a meal in the restaurant yesterday evening. Unfortunately, when we got the bill we were told our voucher was unacceptable and did not fit with the restaurants procedure. We were told ‘where did you get this’ and that it was not an original voucher. Either we or our our friend must have copied it and were attempting to use it twice. He couldn’t accept it because he would then have to honour the original too. We had to ring our friend from the restaurant who then had to explain to the waiter that she had paid over the phone and had an email confirmation, which she had printed out. The waiter then went off to check and after an awkward wait we were told ’it is ok, you can go’ but with an indication that as it was bought two months ago this was too long ago for them to remember (the voucher specifically stated it could be used on any date) At no point was there any apology for a very embarrassing moment and how we were made to feel like we were stealing. We just had to repeatedly hear how this wasn’t their procedure, despite clearly being exactly that! So after a ruined birthday celebration and suggestions of fraud, we won’t be returning.

Ordered veg dishes dansak and tikka masala, food tasted very different compared to most restaurants we have eaten at over the years. Hardly any flavour,hardly any veg, disappointing. Service was very attentive but that was due to there being too many staff standing about. Overall not a great curry or memorable experience.

However, our experience with their food fell far short of our expectations. Following a remarkable day spent marveling at the beauty of the Seven Sisters, we were all looking forward to relishing the unique tastes of Indian cuisine from the comfort of our Airbnb. Our choice to order from Ashoka Restaurant through Uber Eats seemed like a promising one, as it allowed us to satisfy our yearning for flavorful spices and traditional Indian dishes. Sadly, the reality of our dining experience was far from what we had envisioned. Our anticipation for an authentic culinary journey was met with bland disappointment as we delved into the offerings from Ashoka. The lack of proper seasoning, particularly the absence of essential spices and salt, left the food devoid of the aromatic and flavorful qualities that define Indian cooking. Strikingly, the very aspect that was lacking—spices—was the one that mattered the most in our pursuit of an authentic Indian meal. Instead, we found ourselves confronted with an excess of oil and artificial coloring that further detracted from the dining experience. The glaringly unnatural yellow hues of the dishes, clearly a result of artificial additives, not only marred the visual appeal of the food but also left an unexpected mark on our nails and the surfaces where the food had been placed. The intention behind our choice was to savor the genuine essence of Indian cuisine, yet the food delivered by Ashoka Restaurant through Uber Eats fell short in numerous ways. The absence of proper seasoning, combined with the overwhelming oiliness and artificial coloring, collectively created a meal that strayed drastically from our expectations. As travelers who eagerly seek to immerse ourselves in the flavors of different cultures, our experience with Ashoka Restaurant's food delivery reminded us of the importance of authentic culinary experiences. The outward appearance of the dishes, marred by excessive artificial coloring, cannot replace the genuine allure of skillfully prepared dishes enriched with a medley of spices. Our yearning for an authentic Indian feast was regrettably unmet, leaving us with a sense of culinary dissatisfaction rather than the fulfillment we had hoped for.

The food was brilliant even with a full restaurant atmosphere was excellent you have to book otherwise you will have to wait . There is a takeaway service as well. Sorry forgot the photos

An excellent trip to an amazing restaurant. We ordered starters, the Chicken Tikka and the King Prawn, which were all cooked to perfection. The service was also 5 stars. Thank you Ashoka team and we will be back soon!

I've been eating in Ashoka all of the time it's been open, in fact I had my 'Hen' night there! Excellent all round, the food is top notch and always has been, as is the service. The acoustics are tricky in the main room (or maybe I'm going a bit deaf🤔😂) but that's just how it is, this would never stop us going to the Ashoka. Ordered two naga curry’s for my partner and I one with rice and one with Bombay potatoes and a side of palak (mushroom spinach) Both curry’s were oily with little sauce, bland, Luke warm and no flavour. Naga is meant to be hot and even my partner was asking where is the spice. Spinach was clearly not fresh neither were the potatoes. Was a shame to say the least. When my partner mentioned these issues to the waiter nothing was acknowledged about it. We paid but won’t return

Food was "ok" at best, service was below standard and to top it off my wife was sick with what would had only made sense to be food poisoning (we ate different food). I would not return and I would advise anyone else to go elsewhere (spice garden is very much better), it's a real shame as I had big hopes as the decor is nice and the prices are above average so I thought it would be better.

Ordered for a specific time (20:05) but it arrived 35 minutes early (19.30) which was a bit inconvenient as the person the food was for wasn't home yet. However even after reheating the food later it was still very nice.

DO NOT EAT HERE! If you want a nice curry with flavour then this is not the place. Both me and my partner order starters and mains they brought it all out together apart from my curry, when mine then came out it wasn’t the right curry it was VERY VERY spicy and not the chicken tikka masala that I originally ordered, then when they tried to correct it they brought out tikka masala again that had no flavour and the chicken was try as it was over cooked.

Good quality food, delivered on time and nice and hot. Loved the Murgh Kesari Tikka, and the King Prawn Rogan. Excellent. Would've ordered a bottle of their fabulous Gewurztraminer, which they sell in the Restaurant... but not for delivery?

My partner loved his Lamb Jalfrezi! I've always wanted more vegetarian meals from Ashoka so was pleased to see Paneer Shaslik on the menu. This was paneer cheese marinated in tandoori type paste and cooked in quite big chunks. I liked it a lot. It probably needs a good sauce with it and next time I'd add something else as it's quite a dry type meal. But it's great to see it on the menu and I'd order it again. THANKS

I ordered a Chicken Jalfrezi and Lamb Biriany (v/c mdr-hot). Both were excellent and the best I've had in Eastbourne. The staff/driver was friendly amd respectful. The price is high but it's the best food I've ordered. I'll definitely order again.

I had a really excellent experience with wonderful cooking and service . I chose chicken tikka for my main meal and it was delicious. It tasted how chicken tikka should taste and be presented . Large pieces properly spiced and tender and juicy . There was nothing I could fault about my experience

First time eating at Ashoka and we were extremely disappointed. The food was very bland, lacking flavour, spice and meat dry. Falsely advertised menu as completely different taste to any other Indian house/ takeaway which is labelled to be the same dish. Just be mindful you probably will not get what you are hoping for and what it is described as. Will not be returning.

Food was amazing and the service was just right. Although it was busy there was no rush or pressure to order quickly. One very nice waiter made a suggestion for my side order. It was something I had never tried before and it was delicious. Definitely worth going back to next time we're in Eastbourne

Disappointing first visit My butterfly prawn was overcooked,my curry not too bad ,but sadly my husbands ,the birthday boy's meal wasn't good at all very sweet with little flavour,and the naan tasted really sweet ,the beer and wine was a reasonable price ,and good quality,the staff very attentive,but I don't think we will return

I just tried this place and I was pleasantly surprised just how good it was I had the lamb naga with rice Bombay alloo and onion bargees and everything was bang on the button the lamb melted in your mouth the sauce was thick and had serious depth to it but very hot just how I like the rice was fluffy and bargees was crispy and full of flavour! When I’m in Eastbourne again I’m definitely going to eat here again 🙏 Thankyou
