We frequently go to the Art Cafe during the day, usually with our dog who is always welcomed with a bowl of water and a biscuit. Tonight, however, we went to their first open tapas night. The welcome was wonderful, the food delicious, the atmosphere relaxed & comfortable & the staff super friendly & helpful as always. It was a fabulous evening & we're looking forward to their next one. Until then, we'll be back with our dog as often as we can.

I reserved a table for 3 of us for afternoon tea to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Booking the table and paying a deposit was easy and efficient over the phone. Due to rearrangements with travel, my Aunt and Uncle had arrived early from Australia and heard I had booked a table and wanted to come also. Although it was close to the last minute, the staff were amazing with preparing for another two people and what an amazing tea it was: lots of variety, very tasty and flavourful, all rounded off with amazing service! Will definitely be coming back! :)

A lovely place to meet friends where you are not hurried to move on or make a choice. Orders taken at the table and served promptly. Lots of choices for sandwiches adn type of bread all freshly made to order and served with small salad, colseslaw and crisps. It can get a bit noisy as it is busy. Dogs are welcome and given a dish of water and dog biscuit, There is a dog free area for those who don't want to mix with canines.

Visited on a Saturday lunch. Not been for a number of years but still welcoming with comfortable seating arrangements amongst the art work; we chose a comfy sofa. Very pleased the dog was welcome. A simple lunch menu with a couple of specials. The sandwich was tasty, but disappointed the soup was bought in and lacking the flavour a home-made soup would have. I wouldn’t have ordered it had I known. It came with a thin granary crust from the end of the loaf, though I would have preferred a proper slice of bread. I did agree to croutons- didn’t realise they were dried pieces from the same type of loaf. It’s a good idea to use leftover bread, but maybe herbs/olive oil could add to the taste of dried bread as I had dry bread overload by then as my soup bowl was tiny. Flat white and Latte were not barista made and tasted just of milk. Both had the same milk on the top. Overall, the ambience and feel of the place is great, just a shame we came away feeling the experience lacked these minor details which add to the customer experience. No-one asked if everything was ok and the staff were all in the kitchen as we walked out. Sorry, just little things but it makes a big difference.

You have to go upstairs to the art cafe. It's always a bonus to be able to see art pieces when eating. The cafe has 3 Room areas one with a panelled wood wall which I think is quite nice .and 2 other rooms overlooking the street with art for sale. When we arrived it was quite later in the day and not a busy period so the employee had taken the opportunity to wash the floors. Unfortunately the smell of disinfectant was overpowering And would have preferred the smell of coffee. We ordered jacket potato and we're lucky as they had some left. The quality of the potato was poor(watery) . and the tuna mayonnaise was in my opinion too wet. Every customer is vital to business in Hinckley and the quality and experience needs to be good each and every time to bring customers back On a regular basis . It shouldn't matter when a customer arrives be it at the beginning or end of the day. Staff at the cafe were very pleasant..

I have to admit I am a regular here so maybe I am a bit biased, but then I guess that says something anyway! Food is good standard lunchtime type fare and reasonably priced, coffee is nice, and the surroundings pleasant. It is dog friendly and upstairs so could be a bit difficult to access if one is on the infirm side, I like the upstairs feel because it gives one an opportunity to study the rooflines opposite. The walls are adorned with pictures, many of which are for sale, by local artists. The building is old and quirky which divides the cafe up into smaller rooms, each with its own feel.

I met up with some friends after Christmas. They usually go but I had never been. I was unimpressed. I had a coffee and quite frankly if I had collected some mud from the garden and added warm water it would have been better. The surroundings look cheep and it was not very comfortable. There was very little choice of cake and my friends cake was dry. I think this is possibly the worst cafe I have ever been to. I won't be going again.

met up with friends here for coffee and cake and really impressed. It is upstairs and so difficult for anyone who can't climb steps but so impressed with the cleanliness and décor. It is deceptively spacious with 4 different rooms including the 'oak room' which is completely oak panelled (building is 300 years old) and offers comfy sofas for 6-8 people and the privacy of the room to go with it. The other 3 rooms are more modern café style with a mixture of sofas and upright chairs and tables. On the walls hang lots of lovely original art pictures plus some other craft displays. The staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful, and coffee and cake tasty, fresh and a good choice.I was also delighted to see that they welcome well behaved dogs and their owners - well done for having the courage to do this. I would certainly return here and next time maybe even with my four legged friend rather than my two legged ones!

The Art Cafe represents an oasis in the predictably down-market (food wise) town of Hinckley. Not many shops or places that seek to provide high quality last that long here - so it is a pleasure to be able to return to this culinary haven with an assurance of a relaxed and intelligent ambiance. In that sense, the Cafe provides a niche in the market but, I feel, could take one further step that would prove personally and commercially beneficial for all parties. They really need to 'play up' the fact that they cater for alternative diets. Yes, I know they already serve soya milk on request and have gluten-free alternatives. However, this is in quite small print and a glance at the menu would suggest the usual, mainly carnivorous, offerings. Not much there for Vegans/Vegetarians that is different and yet this sector of society is on the rise. As more and more people realise the benefits of a plant based diet, more and more eateries will need to adapt their cuisine and style to suit. The Art Cafe COULD be at the forefront of this movement and I for one would not hesitate to recommend it to all my vegan friends! Otherwise, this remains a fabulous place to wile away an hour or so surrounded by artwork, magazines, and like-minded people.

Tucked away at the top of Castle Street, Hinckley, Leicestershire, is the Art Cafe. I have lived in Leicestershire for the past 24 years and it is only during this year, 2013, that I was told about the Cafe by a friend who goes regularly. My first visit was back in March when I suggested to my husband that we tried the Art Cafe as a new venue for our weekly luncheon on a Wednesday. As I have special dietary needs, namely a gluten and lactose free requirement, I was very pleasantly surprised when I asked for gluten free bread and soya milk and the friendly waitress said yes. As I had ordered a sandwich, I was asked if I would like it toasted? A short time later a steaming hot mug of ground coffee and soya milk arrived, followed by the tastiest ham and pickle toasty garnished with salad, I have tasted in a long time. For those of us who have a gluten intolerance, eating bread made with rice and potato flour can make meal times very uninteresting. Also, very few cafes and restaurants offer food that is gluten free and wheat free, it was therefore a very positive experience for me. My husband always has a preference to go to the Cafe as he says the food is always very tasty and freshly made. The only down side is, you have to access the Cafe by going up some very steep steps. It would not be feasible to have a lift. This, however, does not deter us from going each week now. I also take my daughter and daughter-in-law on different occasions. They too have enjoyed their visit and the food especially. For somewhere that is a little bit different and serves reasonably priced food, the Art Cafe is certainly recommended.
