Armstrong's at the Pavilion in Tendring

Well what a strange place .You enter through a live amusement acrade. When you finally arrive you see this massive area with no atmosphere although the windows face the sea .We ordered the standard Sunday lunch which they mixed up the orders .Nothing worse than eating out of sequence with other diners . My fish and chips had no taste as the fish was frozen . It was empty and they still mixed up the service. The guy playing his guitar could play but as the place was empty we found ourselves shouting at each other. All in all we will never return to this restaurant.

Lovely atmosphere. Food was great. Dogs allowed in bar area and they have a dog menu too. Very friendly , pleasant staff.

My friend is renewing her vows and we went here for a sort of hen do/girlie afternoon. So glad we did. Booked a bottomless brunch and price was reasonable. Expecting ok service and food and a laugh between us girls. We had an amazing experience. Service was brilliant. Couldn't do enough for us. Food was lovely and the kitchen is open so you can see how clean it is. I can't drink alcohol at the moment due to health issues and was expecting orange juice or lemonade. Nope THE BEST MOCKTAILS EVER!! All made fresh, no premix, and evey one was delicious. I think I had 6! My friends were drinking and they loved their cocktails and most came with fresh fruit in them. Awesome. I don't know the name of our server but she was a lovely blond lady who was so friendly and helpful. Overall this place was incredible and we loved it. Definitely recommend to anyone.

Excellent service, great staff and wonderful food. We had a party of 10 and went here for two evenings, all food arrived as ordered hot and delicious. Manageress was very attentive and made sure we were all okay. Will definitely return soon.

Living right opposite this place is ideal.. being in UK now for 4 months...from SA..it reminds me of a local pub I always use to go to in Knysna..my home town.... everything is new .. but my experience in hospitality is fair.... friendly customer service is always key....and I've received that....I go there now quite often as i enjoy just going order a drink at bar and go to the garden/outside seating ..having a smoke... enjoying my cider and relax....staff has been very friendly sofar. Might be my regular place. Was there again this morning before I started working. Really reminds me abit of home...the peace and quiet part I do enjoy

We went to Armstrongs last night (Saturday), one of the busiest days of the year for the pier but Armstrongs was dead. Where to start? Food was at best 3/10. You could have broken a window with my pie top. If the gravy was home made I’m a dutchman. It was barely even brown it was so thin. My daughter’s mac and cheese was burnt on the outside. The lager choices were carlsberg, Stella and I think staropramen maybe, all the same drink basically, tangy gassy lager. The San Miguel at the boardwalk over the road was at least 3 or 4 degrees colder and much nicer. The service was non existent. In the end I just had to hold my arm in the air like a kid in school until I got attention. The staff were just bothered about doing the jobs that needed doing so the place was ready for today (this was 8pm, not 11), they literally cleaned the tables around me while our glasses remained empty. A nice cherry on the cake was what I would presume was the manager (orange top) having a stand up row with someone and marching them out. Lots of F’s and Jeff’s for my daughter to hear. Overall, a fair bit worse than weatherspoons at well over double the price, so just don’t go there

worst place I’ve been to! the female manager has a face like thunder and so rude when you ask simple questions! dirty plates and shte food.

My wife and I have been coming to Clacton on Sea for a number of years now, usually two or three times a year, but had never previously visited Armstrongs but now realise what we have been missing. Our reception was first class and the first question we were asked was if we wanted a bowl of water for our little dog Alfie. The surroundings are first class and well kept. Our food arrived piping hot with generous portions and extremely well presented and the service was excellent. Value for money is without doubt the best we have come across for quite some time. Well done all concerned and we will definitely be seeing you again.

We were a large group for Sunday lunch /Dinner 4pm. The majority of us ordered a roast dinner & we were not disappointed. Large portions, lots of various vegetables, the beef was great lots of empty plates. The staff were lovely & accommodating, customer service was good. Would recommend & would come again. The only couple of things which are a little disappointing are you have to pay £10 pp deposit to reserve the table & this included children. We had a five year old & a one year old their meals were only £5 each & they did knock the deposit of the total bill. Also, We were celebrating a birthday so we had brought a cake but if we wanted to eat it there we had to pay a £2 pp surcharge . I do appreciate the venue misses out if people don’t buy puddings but this seemed a little excessive.

Atmosphere is great Bar staff questionable Order a st Clements’s which is basically bitter lemon and orange juice I explained what it was as it’s probably not served as often as it once was Bar staff fill glass full of orange just and put a slice of lemon on top When I questioned her she said it was exactly what I asked for I’m sure she doesn’t understand the difference between bitter lemon which is a drink on its own and a slice of lemon After trying to explain and being looked at like an idiot I was forced to except just orange juice with a slice oc lemon Train your staff to listen and not treat the customer like an idiot when infact they are idiotic for not listening

We pre booked a girls bottomless brunch. I have to say I was apprehensive about it having read a couple of comments and on the general timescale rules. However we were all really pleased with the experience. The service was fantastic, we didn’t have to ask once for a drink or food it was spot on. The choice is good for both food and drinks. The only thing missing for me would be an espresso martini but I didn’t struggle to find something. I would recommend this as a local brunch, the cocktails are not pre made which is a plus and the location is good. Thank you Armstrongs x

Just popped in for a burger before going home. I had a chicken burger. It was horrid, very chewy, to the point that I had to take 2 mouthfuls out of my mouth. When I told the staff, I was offered a replacement but, really didn’t fancy it, also the other 2 people I was eating with would have finished. A refund wasn’t offered. My husband had a spicy bean burger, he ate it but it was very plain and a round burger served in a long roll!! He had to cut the burger in half and put it back in roll then cut the roll in half to eat it. It’s £14 a burger, it was not worth that at all. I won’t be coming back again.

We booked for a holiday dinner and were extremely disappointed by the whole experience. Food was extremely slow in service and when dinner was finally received was mostly Luke warm The restaurant was extremely noisy and made conversation difficult The staff were not wearing any protective headgear which was surprising Price charged was excessive Overall we would not recommend or choose to visit again

We came as a group of 10 for my Mother in Laws 60th birthday, and I must say it was a shambles. Please let me say, that we have been many times prior to this and have had excellent food and fantastic service, so not sure what has happened. Firstly, my Father in Law had to pay a deposit for 12 of us, which was absolutely fine, however, one of those was for a baby who would not have been eating. Unfortunately the mother and baby were unable to attend due to illness, so we lost £10 of the deposit. I would like to Firstly ask, why was we charged for a baby, who was never going to be eating? Secondly, we asked for a pitcher of beer, and when this was served, we were given 3 (out of 4) of the most dirtiest glasses. The beer from previous drinkers was still in the bottom, hence the staining of brown at the bottom of the glass. This is totally unacceptable, and this could actually cause serious health issues to people drinking from them. The waitress brought the first two starters out, prawn cocktails, and dumped it infront of a parson who didn't even order it, and even after we told her who they were for, just left it there.....would you not have picked this up and actually served it to the correct person? The prawn cocktails came out on a slate and as much as this was very nicely presented, knowing that someone with only the use of one arm had ordered this, it would have been a better option to put this on a plate, so food could be scraped to the edge of the plate and picked up. Rather than a husband having to put his fork up against his wife's and juggle getting the food on. That's just a food for thought, incase you have anyone else in this position in the future. We then had the mains served. Out of the 10 orders, were four full racks of ribs. One of these came out as a half. We asked the waitress if this was correct and she said, sorry, she would get the other half out. This came out AFTER the person had finsihed their dinner, which meant they had to take this away in a take away box. Seemed like there was no urgency to correct the error immediately. The burgers, I am sorry to say, are an actual joke. The burgers themselves looked like the small ones you get from Iceland. But yet, are being charged at nearly £14. That was shocking. The chips, were edible, but burnt. And again, please think about putting it on a plate (or atleast asking the person eating it what they would prefer) and not a wooden chopping board. A chopping board is for chopping after all...... We then asked for our cake to come out, so we could sing happy birthday and blow the candles out. We got told "yes no problem, but you will be charged £2 per person for eating there" at no point had we mentioned we wanted to eat it there and had actually already mentioned this prior to handing over the cake. We opted not to have a dessert as we felt quite deflated to be honest. When the bill came out, I asked if the 3 for 2 drinks had been deducted and she said "no, thats only Friday's". I think you need to make that clearer on your menu, as it just states Monday... Tuesday...etc and the Friday's. But your drinks deal just says "Evenings" you need to amend that to specifically say "Friday evenings" as it is in fact false advertisement on your part. The bill came up, minus the £50 deposit (still baffled why you charged £5 for a baby) and to my surprise a £27 service charge. I asked for this to be removed, as I find this quite shocking to put on any bill. A service charge is not a given, it is a discretion by those who are paying. You cannot expect anyone to pay a service charge if they feel the service has not been up to scratch. As I previously said above, we have been here multiple times before and always had great service and exceptional food. Last night, just was not the same. It is a shame, as we come here for birthdays and we will be thinking twice now, due to the above.

We had a great Christmas meal at Armstrong's, and I've got to give a shoutout to Emma and Chef Stephen for making it the best! Emma's management of our booking was seamless, making the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. Her attention to detail and fantastic communication made us feel not just like customers, but cherished guests. The food was superb each course was pipping hot and delicious. The ambiance was festive, and the service staff provided attentive and friendly service throughout. So, if you're looking for restaurant which has fantastic service, good value for money, great food in a fantastic environment then Armstrong's is the one for you. It is a 10 out of 10 from us!

The food is ok, nothing special but not bad. The junior wait staff are lively but on more than one occasion the manager has been quite rude and snapped at us; she has quite the attitude. I think we're done with this place now.

My husband and I went for breakfast and we regularly go for an evening meal which we enjoy. Well what can I say the service was terrible, the cleaner seated us and bought our pot of tea. The waitress bought our breakfast over as I cut into the sausage I noticed it was cold and under cooked , I called her back over, she then replied do you want it well done then. She took both breakfasts away it came back the sausage were cooked but the rest of it was stone cold, lovely place but avoid the breakfast. Also the cleaner started to clean the windows with spray as we were sitting there trying to enjoy the sea view.

Came with my family for my birthday to be told my partner had to turn his hat round for security reasons walked and and went to the family grill on the pier was amazing food

Booked to eat .was told we had to pay ,£10 deposit which never the case previously.Place was empty when we got there Food wasn't cooked properly.Problem was I'd eaten around the uncooked bit.Mentioned it to the waitress who said she would see if possible reduction for cooking it incorrectly but nobody seem to care .Duty manager was aware but made no effort to speak to us.Non existent customer service and poor food probably explains why so empty .Has got worse over the years and there are now much better options in Clacton ie Martello lounge .won't be spending anymore money here as not a good experience anymore😡

I absolutely love this resturants, the food is exceptional. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Having had an occasional drink at Armstrongs bar a few times we thought we would try the food in the restaurant part whilst on a short visit to Clacton. We went late afternoon when it was quiet and were seated by the window with a decent view of beach and pier. The menu is on par with most pub choices and priced accordingly. We were more than satisfied with our meals both in portion sizes and quality and also impressed with the waiting girls who were polite, efficient and helpful. As others have mentioned, it does have a certain holiday camp air to it but it was none the worse for that and we would most definitely use again when in Clacton.

A nice lunch the down side it could be a nicer outside space a bit tired looking awful fake grass on floor just needs an update.overall a great location by the sea good value lunch and nice staff.

We went here for a family celebration for my Nan's 80th and we had a fantastic celebration. There was 15 of us so we ordered the food in advance. The food was lovely and everything was correct, the space we were given was perfect (my nan is in a wheelchair and we have little ones so they could move around a bit) and the team were wonderful. They were so helpful, so efficient and very professional. We want to thank Emma and her team so much for helping us give my Nan a brilliant birthday lunch and helping to make some beautiful memories on her 80th. We would definitely recommend.

I have to agree with user garydR9929KN over priced mega small portions never again. Before they reply on here yes I did complaint at the time, Staff in my opinion haven't got a clue, maybe as heard at the bar they are treated like poo by the management i cant't confirm how they are treated but it's odd to hear this when they don't know customers are near. In my opinion.much much better and cheaper places

Me my wife and sister in law called in for a Sunday roast ,my wife and her sister both had roast lamb which we had to pay another £1 on top which we was happy to do but when they brought our meals out the roast potatoes were over cooked and empty inside actually they were black , my wife immediately said she couldn’t eat them and the waitress even agreed they were terrible and said the chef was in the process of cooking a new batch, my question is why serve them in the first place ?, I asked for a prawn cocktail for a main and asked for a larger portion and was told by the waitress that would be ok but would have to pay a couple of pounds extra which i was happy to do but they actually ended up charging me for two starters which turned out at nearly £17 for a prawn cocktail then they had the front to charge a £5 service charge on top, without realising we paid the bill it was only when we got home my wife said that was expensive ,two roast a prawn cocktail and a orange juice, £55 a complete rip off , I think they actually wait to rip off holiday makers but we are local and have heard a of locals talking about the state of the place and I have to agree, will definitely not be going back again

Don't be put off that is inside a complex with bowling and arcade games; is seperate to all of that and a great spot woth large windows overlooking the pier and beach. Good choice on menu and friendly helpful staff.

Called in for lunch on a miserable cold weekday. Immediately greeted by very pleasant man who offered us a choice of tables and took our drinks order.
