We were a walk in for lunch, staff greeted us and showed us to a table by a roaring fire. Interesting building with veiws over river though a bit faux inside. Hubby had fish and chips I had the steak and ale and mushroom pie at £17.95 I had a lot better elsewhere. Waitress said they were bought in, I suggest they got them from somewhere else. Plesant meal in pleasant surroundings £55. two main meals and 4 pints fine by me.

We love exploring the shops and markets in Shrewsbury, and usually pop in here for lunch. This time we thought we would be disappointed as upon arriving at 13:30 the place was packed. Fortunately we met our waitress Laura, who assured us some tables would shortly become free and came to fetch us from the bar as soon as one was available. The menu is always varied and delicious, but I usually select the fish and chips as it is always beautifully prepared, tasty and of generous portion. My wife selected the fishcake with a side portion of seasonal vegetables and this certainly didn't disappoint. We'll always head here when in Shrewsbury........though given its obvious and well deserved increasing popularity I'll probably be more prepared in future and book a table in advance. Thank you to Laura for your kind and excellent service, you have surely found your niche role in hospitality and would be a credit to any restaurant

We had booked a table for two. We arrived at the booked time, it then took a little while to get somebody's attention. Once we did get their attention they disappeared for about 5 minutes, without saying anything, and then returned to say the table was ready, that's when the fun started!! He took us to a table for 8, then asked it that was okay? I think he could tell from our expression that we were not best pleased. He then magically found a table for 2. We sat there for about 15 minutes and in that time no member of staff approached the table. We got up and left. What is the point of booking tables at your restaurant, when you obviously take no notice of the actual bookings?

Had a lovely birthday lunch with five friends. Great fish and chips ( small version) tasty and perfect. Wine and desserts also delicious. Chocolate torte was gorgeous! As were all the puds. Berry sponge, brulee and sticky toffee. A busy place but lots of atmosphere. Service was spot on, only one downside allowing dogs in restaurant is always questionable around diners, one dog had his paw trodden on when server was walking through with plates, unfortunately an accident waiting to happen, and not impressed with dog water bowl on the table!

Visited Tuesday 22/1024. A most enjoyable experience from start to finish. Greeted promptly and provided with a table overlooking the River Severn. Sue our server, was experienced, knowledgeable and alert to our needs. The menu choice was comprehensive and we thoroughly enjoyed our individually prepared meals. The bonus was having the bill reduced by £12 because of the tokens we has been given on previous visits. We have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending The Armoury anf look forward to our next bisit in November.

No problem however as 8 handpumps serve a super collection of beers. Albrecht took a Clun Brewery ale. Very good. The river side location gets worrying when The Severn floods. My husband and I have been regulars in this amazing pub for years, followed its development to a grown-up establishment of splendid foods and cask ales. We have enjoyed the noise of human voice rather than muzak, admired the full bookshelves and old, well-framed pictures, the log fire; and tasted every cask ale going - perfectly pulled, of course. Yesterday we shared Prawns Pil Pil for starter, followed by a perfect Fish pie for my husband and a Pan fried sea bass for me. The Prawns Pil Pil sent us back to the seaside restaurants of San Sebanstian/Donostea, his fish pie was rich but light, and hot, and my sea bass perfectly spiced. The menu is short but well balanced. The chef and the kitchen staff are simply perfect at their jobs, producing beautiful diches each time. Well be back in a few weeks for another tasting.

Ate here twice during our stay in Shrewsbury. The sandwiches at lunchtime were so big we could hardly manage any dinner! We also ate a main meal the follwoing night and all the food was great. It is a lovely location and right next to the waterfront, near the boat rides. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The only minor negative was the number of dogs in the restaurant. Whilst we all love dogs, sadly one of our group is allergic to dogs and we had to leave earlier than planned on our second visit as the number of dogs present set off my friends asthma. Additionally the dogs kept barking at each other - I haven’t let it impact on the score as the food was great but others with similar allergies might have similar problems

Brunning and Price pubs used to be very good. Not any more. We tried a couple recently and this was our worst experience. We went for Sunday lunch. Quality of food was poor. Roast potatoes were hard, dry and had obviously been siting around for hours. Staff replaced them but it took so long the meal was done. Replacements weren’t much better so I suspect quality of ingredients is also poor. To overcome the poor meal we ordered mini puddings with hot drinks. We got the drinks but no puds. Had to ask for them to be removed from the bill as they still tried to charge us!

One of the best pub experiences! The food is amazing - really fresh, good portion sizes yet not sickening, great variety including lots of GF options (which was a pleasant suprise for our GF friend). The service is so friendly and kind - when I left a personal item under the table and only realised halfway back to London, I contacted the staff who immediately responded confirming they had looked for and found the item and would post it to me the next day (thank you so much again Tom!). The atmosphere is perfect - warm and cosy, yet bright and spacious with big open windows and exposed brick with open bookcases and other historic items on the walls. Could not recommend this pub more. Be sure to stop by if you are ever in Shrewsbury!

Came here on a whim for something to eat after a day out at Attingham Park. We had our dog with us and we were sat in the dog specific dining area. The staff were attentive and friendly and had a treat ready for our pooch. The food was hot and fresh and tasty. I had the honey ham and my partner had the fish and chips. What set this experience apart though, was the staffs response to my allergy to lentils/peas. They made a real effort to ensure there was no cross contamination and brought my meal out separately to show.it had been cooked away from any allergens. This was one of the best experiences I have had with my allergy as it is not one of the top 14 allergens that legally has to be disclosed by restaurants. It's a really cooly decorated establishment too and the pictures and framed newspaper clippings etc really add to the vibe.

Back in April 2022, I rated this restaurant as 5 stars and “excellent in all regards”, titling my review: “This is how all casual dining should be”. So, why have I downgraded it to 2 stars? Visiting Shrewsbury with the same group of friends, at the same time on a summer Saturday evening, we had purposely booked ahead and were all eagerly looking forward to our meal as one of the highlights of our reunion. The restaurant was still as busy, the staff were still as attentive, but the meal itself was the most disappointing let-down we had had in a very long time. The menu was uninspired and overpriced and we each struggled to find anything worth having. It’s telling that all five of my fellow diners ended up defaulting to “the burger” as the least worst option. I myself had “the cod, chips and peas”. It was so disappointing. Barely any fish, swamped in floury batter, I genuinely felt sick after eating it. The ‘fat’ chips were oily. Yuck! I had to order an extra bowl of the (fortunately still delicious) tartare sauce just to take the taste away. My friends commented on how there was no garnish whatsoever - perhaps an indication of cost-cutting? They all said how overpriced the meal had been and swore never to return as it was simply “not worth the money”. I have to agree. I don’t know what has happened to drive the customer experience so far downhill. But I know from our other regular reunions in Shrewsbury that other restaurants are still able to deliver stunning food at an affordable price. Avatar, The Third Place and The Curry House in particular are three of the best Indian restaurants I know of anywhere in the UK. They are all making an effort while The Armoury is barely going through the motions and ultimately failing. There are so many better options to eat at family-owned restaurants in the town. Avoid.

Probably the worst and smallest Chicken Caesar salad I've ever had. More or less half a jem lettuce and what appeared to be a packet of sliced packet cooked chicken - comparable with Aldi's budget range. I asked for no anchovies but apparently this wasn't possible "because they were in the sauce" - it took me about 10 seconds when the dish arrived. At £17.95 it was a rip off. The real ale I had was a disappointment, but that could be down to my choice. The atmosphere and decor was pleasant but the overall experience was a major let down because of the quality of the food. Would I recommend or return? - absolutely not. Pub chain food passed off as Gastro-pub dining

Been here a couple of times now (went on Saturday night) and will return whenever we're in Shrewsbury. It has the feel of a town pub (nice inside) but is really a restaurant. I say this as the food is restaurant quality, not as a negative. The food really is excellent, quality ingredients, well prepared, well presented, really very nice indeed. Could maybe have a few more starters and they're a bit confused with the 'nibbles'. It was very busy and quite loud but service was good. It may be helpful if the staff wore unforms though (or just the same colour clothes) as it's a reasonable sized place and it can sometimes be difficult to work out who they are. I could have easily flagged down another customer who had walked past a couple of times! We were seeing a comedian at Theatre 7 and Shrewsbury is a good hour from us. We had seen that he was on more locally and wondered about switching venues, we stayed with Shrewsbury so that we could go back to The Armoury! Glad we found it and look forward to going back!

Food (apart from one starter) was served hot and with reasonable space within courses. The team member allocated to our particular table was affable. Miss: one starter replaced at a sloths pace. Our table was slow to be asked if we required further drinks. 3 out of 4 staff gave off the impression they would rather have been elsewhere.

My husband and I plus our dog , around 14.30 in the afternoon,on a hot Sunday. Many thanks to that wonderful member of the staff who've went above and beyond to find us a indoor table. Forever greatful, the pooch was panting like an old engine 😭 Speedy serving regarding the pub being busy as a beehive. Everything spotless clean . Kudos for the chef , I rarely finish what's in my plate, I did it this time. Highly recommend. Does worth two hours driving to enjoy great meal in a great atmosphere.

Such a reassuring place for a Coeliac to eat. Well marked up menu for gluten free and attentive and knowledgeable serving staff. Top job!

Lovely place, I also like that it attracts all ages having seen groups of elderly folk enjoying a wine and a chat in a great atmosphere.

We called for lunch on a Tuesday, the pub was very quiet, in fact we waited 10 minutes until the landlord came into sight, but he was most apologetic for the wait, we both ordered the mixed grill, which was excellent, the steak and gammon were superb (quality meats & cooked to perfection) with 2 meaty sausages, a properly cooked egg ! Peas & mushrooms, the only thing was the fried chicken wings that unusually accompanied the mixed grill were overcooked and very salty, and it was served with frozen chips, the pub has recently been revamped and looked very good, we will be back, thank you

Eugh, why can’t places just do basic things well?! The atmosphere and decor is absolutely spot on, got our drinks quickly, all fine, but then the sunder dinners arrived and although they looked beautiful it was the driest thing I’ve had in a long time. The beef was chewy and inedible, and I could’ve choked on the turkey it was bone dry. Roast potatoes were ok but not crispy at all. The veg was so weird, orange cheese on the cauliflower but it didn’t say on the menu anything about cheese so my husband couldn’t eat the veg as he doesn’t like cheese. Weird red tomato sauce on the sugar snaps and red cabbage. I would’ve expected carrots, broccoli maybe peas. Not enough gravy. My son had a burger which he couldn’t eat as it was soggy. He said the texture was like tuna. Vile. My niece had a kids chicken burger which she really didn’t like either. We didn’t complain as it was my dad’s birthday and we didn’t want to spoil the vibe. I also don’t think they gave us the meal deal price for a Sunday despite having 4 roasts and 3 desserts.

Shopping experience ok. Not enough organic products!! Tesco's seem to have stopped doing a lot of organic. Very disappointing.
