We were staying just down the road in Tayinloan and saw this place as we passed by. We promised ourselves a visit and we have loved it. Great staff and great food very friendly guests in the restaurant and it’s dog friendly! The view is mesmerising we loved every bit of it! Thank you. We hope to return before we head south again!

We'd decided to book dinner at the Argyll on our first night in Bellochantuy, a place which can best ( and fairly ) be described as lacking where culinary experiences are concerned! The Argyll, however, more than made up for any deficiencies in the area. It has a great and relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and the food was exceptionally good. After a starter and main course each neither of us could contemplate a dessert, pretty much a first where I'm concerned! I only wish it was 290 miles nearer to us so we could make it our regular place to enjoy a first class meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Not surprisingly, this is a popular restaurant and booking is definitely recommended. Fingers crossed we'll be back before we head for home.

I cannot remember my starter but I had balmoral chicken as a main and it was brilliant. The food was of a good quality and reasonably priced. All of us squeezed in three courses with drinks and we all loved the meal. We were sat in the conservatory area overlooking sun setting over the sea. The staff were helpful and welcoming. The owners also have works from local artists for sale that are all around the ground floor, all very unique. The Argyll is somewhere I make sure to book a meal each time I visit friends in Campbeltown.

We stopped off for Sunday lunch on our way north from Campbeltown. I'm so pleased we did! The hotel sits right on the beach and after a warm welcome by Ian and Nick we enjoyed a gorgeous view over the Atlantic as we ate. We both ordered traditional Sunday roast and the meal was delicious. Rounded off with apple and plum tart and coffee. Although we didn't partake this visit, the hotel has a wide delection of Scottish rums, whisky, gin and craft beers, including many locally produced drinks. Our doggy was made very welcome - not like some places that claim to be dog friendly then make you sit outside! He was definitely treated like a star guest. We are regular visitors to Kintyre so we will definitely make a visit to the Argyll part of our trips. Highly recommended.

I stayed here for two nights recently and booked the restaurant in advance since I wasn’t sure what other options would be available. I’ll be honest I was a little worried at this as what if it wasn’t that good? I’d be eating after a very long drive and was a little apprehensive. My worries subsided quickly with the warm welcome. They reduced further when I was presented with the small but very thoughtful menu. And vanished completely with the arrival and tasting of the food. That first night’s meal, where the service and location complimented perfectly the fine food made my decision to commit to a second night’s dinner provide a different emotional. Excited anticipation. So to those traveling to this remote part of Scotland and maybe concerned as I was about “What if I get there and the food isn’t good?” I get it. I’m lucky to live near London and have the good fortune of eating in some very well regarded eateries on a regular enough basis to know what quality means. But don’t worry. It, and everything else, is superb. I’ll be back for more. Which I’ll look forward to after another long drive.

Fantastic food - we stayed at the hotel for two nights and on both occasions we had a wonderful meal. The mussels were FABULOUS - the best my friend has ever had, they were huge, fresh and delicious. The mushroom basket was fantastic - we would return for the starters alone. The fish dishes were second to none - fish and chips perfectly cooked, and the fresh hake delicately flavoured. The meat in the steak pie was tender and flavourful. Excellent vegetation and vegan options too. The puddings were delicious - the raspberry roulade was a hit and the brownie a decadent delight that was melt in the mouth! We cannot recommend this place enough - amazing food and even better service with a stunning setting. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

I had to travel to Campbeltown for work and needed to stay over night. its very difficult to find accommodation with the current COVID restrictions, so I generally take standards of accommodation with a pinch of salt; after all, all I really need is a bed and a decent Wifi signal to catch up on emails. I was very plesentlly surprised when after I booked the room, the hotel contacted me in person to explain that due to the restrictions please could I pre-order my evening meal which I duly did, I was even more surprised by the hotel and its location, the staff were very friendly, the location is stunning the rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed , and the food was really nice; (I even had to go for the dessert which I rarely do) I have passed this hotel many times and never given it a second thought, I will now make a point of stopping when we get back to the new normal. 10/10 for the staff who could not be more helpful, before I knew it the stresses of the day had dissipated and I found myself walking along the beach enjoying what was left of the spring sunshine

It’s my birthday today and we had taken the ferry to Arran for a special day out. After reading the reviews of the Argyll Hotel and the fact they offered a takeaway service, I gave them a call. A lovely man with the kindest gentlest voice and manner took our telephone order and I gave him a time we hoped to be passing through to collect it on our way back to where we’re staying in Southend. The prices are unbelievably reasonable and the food was packed in eco-friendly containers made from plants which is compostable! (I loved that!) The meals were....truly out of this world! I really can’t even express how much we enjoyed them. (I had the sea bass with clams and lemon tart for pudding, my husband had Cullen Skink and Balmoral Chicken). This place is a little gem and we are hoping to be able to dine there in person before driving home next week to enjoy more exquisite food and the beach front views with our 2 dogs. Thank you Argyll Hotel for the perfect end to a perfect day.

My wife, daughter and I had a takeaway meal from here, whilst on holiday in the area. The whole process was extremely smooth; phone up, order food for a specific time, collect food at said time, enjoy food on the beach outside. For anyone not totally comfortable eating inside at this current point in time, it’s perfect, especially with the additional safety precautions the hotel has taken (mask wearing, hand sanitising station and collecting the food from a currently unused part of the hotel). The food was lovely and the service throughout welcoming and friendly. The beach setting was beautiful - but you could just as easily take the food home, or eat in the car if you’re not as lucky as we were with the weather. I would recommend, without hesitation.

Not yet feeling comfortable eating in a restaurant/pub (no reflection on the set up here as looked safe and well managed) it was really nice to be able to get some quality food to takeaway and enjoy on the beach. My sister had stayed here a few years ago and raved about it so I had been following them on FB. When our planned trip to New Zealand wasn't going to happen because of Covid, we thought we wouldn't be going anywhere for our 30th Anniversary! So, when I saw on FB that the hotel was tentatively opening for booing from mid July, I thought I would take the chance and book.So very very glad I did. We could not fault the welcome and service we received from Nick, Ian and their team. The Covid measure were extremely good and I felt that theteam were keeping us safe. The room was lovely with a king size comfy bed. Plenty of room for our stuff. Great shower. The food, especially the breakfasts, was excellent: porridge with jam and cream! Green eggs and ham (spinach, cheese and lemon sauce)! We decided to eat dinner there for the 3 nights we stayed in case it was difficult to find places open nearby and we weren't disappointed. I had one of the best burgers I have ever had and the haddock batter was light and crisp. The position of the hotel with direct access to the beach was fabulous! The views over the sea were just amazing! We will definitely go back!

Came to the Argyll Hotel for a meal on a quite Wednesday evening, we hadn’t booked a table but there was room outside so we sat there. We ordered our food with no problems and our food arrived quickly and was very tasty ! However, a member of our group asked for mayonnaise for their burger and the waitress said she would go and get some, 20 minutes later we still didn’t have it. The same member of our group then went in to ask for the mayonnaise, by this point their food was then cold. We approached the waitress and asked very politely if it would be possible for a replacement burger, however they just said that they could warm it up in the microwave with no replacement. The waitress claimed that they were busy, even though two tables were in use, quite clear that they focus on the indoor restaurant and not people eating outside. Back outside whilst everybody else was finishing their meals a man came over, who i presumed to be the chef/owner came over and claimed that we had abused his staff and requested us to leave the premises. We were completely shocked as the meal had been lovely but the service was disgraceful. We then stressed to him that we had not been ‘abusive’ and in fact we had asked politely for a replacement meal, but was adamant that we leave ! This is the first time I’ve been kicked out of a restaurant for asking for some mayonnaise! Will never be returning ever

I could just compliment the chefs and hotel team on their excellent work and leave it at that. The building is suitably old with a comfortable feel. The notoriously dodgy internet and mobile phone services on the peninsular certainly made for an 'interesting' communications exercise. Not a bad thing really, it just means you have to communicate the old fashioned way and talk to people. The food is probably the best for many miles around, and they do have some intriguing dishes on offer. The location is of course why most folks will want to stay and the big bonus is that they really are a dog friendly place.

Finding somewhere to eat in Campbelltown is not very easy at night but someone thankfully pointed us in the direction of the Artgyle Hotel with the promise of good, wholesome food.First impression was that of a typical seaside hotel, built in with the bricks, but once inside we could not have received a warmer welcome from the staff with the offer of high tea, a snack, dinner or a bar lunch. We opted for the table d'hote menu at £18.95 and my meal was anything but good wholesome food - it was much better than that.A starter of tasty baked cam£15.mbere was followed by a hugh helping of mushroom stroganoff - plua chips - leaving barely enough room for the chocolate fudge cake and cream. Coffee was also included and we enjoyed a very reasonable house Merlot for £!5, Service was excellent and the food piping hot.

Local family group (birthday) including 8 adults and 4 children pre booked for lunch. Restaurant area and outside terrace not busy with two small groups inside and one or two outside. Initial small drinks order took 15 minutes to arrive. Waiting staff avoided taking food order until they eventually accepted the order over the bar. Food (basic pub grub) arrived without undue delay from the time of order but over an hour from the time of arrival due to the initial unwillingness of staff to take the order. The waiter conceded that an "unexpected group had delayed things" whilst gesturing towards a group of 4-6 in the otherwise quiet restaurant (!). 3 of the ordered dishes did not arrive with the rest. 2 of these eventually followed but the third did not appear until everyone else had finished. Despite the waiters protestations that he had "written the order twice" it was clear that the order had not been taken correctly, probably due to his initial unwillingness to take the order from the group as a whole. The waiter was found to be rude, unhelpful and not at all interested in our experience throughout which culminated in one of our party being told to "sit down as I can't be bothered to listen to you any longer" when querying the status of the missing last dish at the bar. Food was of standard quality, no frills but edible. All dishes were priced fairly highly for the quality on offer and in comparison to other local establishments. Toilets clean but 'fragrant' (which unfortunately also reaches the adjacent passageway between the main entrance and rear restaurant area). Restaurant and terrace areas clean and fairly well presented. Great views and access to the beach and seafront (which is the only thing worthy of the single star awarded in this review). Overall, our group's experience was universally appalling and we will not be returning. A second staff member who seemed to be the manager was apologetic on our departure but was conspicuous by his absence during the pantomime that preceded. I would urge visitors to the area to continue to Campbeltown / Machrihanish where there are a number of similar establishments who will offer a decent level of service / value for money, as well as superior overall quality.

A lovely location, practically on the beach, good beer and friendly staff. Real ale is not easy to find in Kintyre, many pubs only selling fizzy beer so this place is wonderful. Highly Recommended.

A fantastic location with breathtaking views topped off by the best Sunday roast we've had. The lovely staff were the icing on the cake.

The food here was great - good choices as well and great service. The stand out thing for me though was the view. Amazing! The decor (including lounges to move to, to have your after dinner coffee) and 'games room' were also really good touches and added to the fabulous ambience.

The view from this outstanding restaurant is simply breath-taking! Watching the sun set over Gigha, Islay, and Jura on a glorious September evening is a sight that is hard to beat!Had a wonderful meal here with my brother and his wife. The service throughout (by Peter and a young lady) was attentive and fun, and added to our enjoyable experience.Lots of interesting choices on the menu, with most dishes featuring ingredients from the surrounding area. The food was fresh, delicious, and outstanding value – recommend the goats’ cheese and roasted red pepper mousse with Arran oatcakes and red onion marmalade, the steak pie, and the affogato.Loved the artwork around the restaurant/bar area, especially the Kintyre seascapes by Senja Brendon.

Lovely place, fantastic owners and staff, food very good, beach at the bottom of the garden and very very dog friendly! If eating in dogs only allowed in the bar but we are always made to feel very welcome and the dogs even more so! One of our favourite Kintyre places and our dogs agree!

Came in mid afternoon for a coffee, after having seen a favourable review on TripAdvisor . Scones were excellent, although a bit on the small side, but staff were very friendly. Beach location absolutely gorgeous so booked a table for diner the following evening. Not a huge menu, but food once again was good standard fare. Didn't quite have the X factor to make it excellent but will probably visit again.

Excellent traditional food with a fantastic view across the beach to the western isles. The choice of dishes on offer would be acceptable to all tastes, but the real emphasis was on Scottish, local produce. The smoked Haddock breakfast was superb!

Trying to find a good cuppa coffee in Campbeltown proved difficult. The Argyll solved the problem. Right beside the harbour, nice comfy seating and pleasant, welcoming staff. Large coffee was very large. Cakes were not home made but good, pity no home made scones.

We were lucky to have a glorious sunset, but even without that blessing this is a charming room to eat in. The room is all glass, which makes the views of the beach and the ocean palpable. The service is unfailingly friendly and the prices are reasonable. The food is better than average and this is one of the best places to eat in Kintyre.

The location of this restaurant is outstanding. On a sunny day you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Florida. The food is lovely and reasonably priced - traditional in style and something to suit everyone. The breakfasts are cooked to order and served by the friendly owners. Recommended for a romantic evening with chilled Prosecco watching the sun going down

Always enjoy visiting the Argyll now Nick & Ian have taken over. We often pop in for a bite of lunch and let the dogs run on the beach. Always friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Have been a couple of times in the evening and the sunsets from the conservatory are amazing! Recommend!

We stayed at a local campsite (Killgruer Camp Site) and visited the hotel for a drink with our dogs. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners - both us and the dogs. We were so impressed by the place we decided to book in for a meal. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxing - the views are out of this world, especially if you catch the sunset! Our meal was delicious and very well presented with very generous portions. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. The value for money was excellent. We enjoyed our meal so much that we decided to return for a meal again on our last night and again were not disappointed.

We spent a few days early in July at the Argyll Hotel. The view from the front deck is world class. Very peaceful and lots of beach to explore. The bar has a well selected collection of single malts and some good wines - all for a reasonable price. Breakfasts each morning were prepared with attention to detail with ultra fresh ingredients. Rooms are small but comfortable. Our hosts worked hard at pleasing each guest. They were superb! We will recommend this hotel to all our friends travelling to this part of Scotland. We used public transport (bus!) to travel to Campbeltown each day and the schedules worked well for us. The bus stop right in front of the hotel.

Had a beautiful lunch here recently and it was delicious. The service was faultless and the atmosphere was great. We popped in on a rainy day and the views from the conservatory were still beautiful. Had it not been as wet we would have loved to have utilised the beach right outside the conservatory. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

We arrived at approx 5.30pm on a Saturday evening(we hadn't booked and dinner service begins at 5.30pm) We were greeted with a friendly handshake by the lovely owners who made us feel very at home and were interested about where we lived and what had brought us to their establishment. An icing on the cake for me personally as a massive animal lover is that they had two gorgeous dalmatians, whose names escape me, which was a lovely touch but I suppose if you don't like dogs the owners would have whisked them away to their beds out of sight. The decor was quite chic and I loved the comfy red seats which were perfect for sitting with a morning espresso and a newspaper. The dining chairs were not so inviting as they were fold up and lacked the same appeal as the rest of the deco(just my opinion). We asked to split the starter of vegetable tempura and when it came we actually thought they had made a mistake and given us a portion each, however when we checked the bill this showed us that we had only paid for one starter. As vegetarians we were happy to see an unusual vegetarian dish, a bean bake smothered in a rich tomato sauce with veg and potatoes. The portion was ample and the bean bake was full of flavour so top marks. For dessert my partner had apple crumble with ice cream and I chose the Affogato, which I loved. All in all I would recommend this place and I really felt that the owners deserve to do well as it is clear that they really care.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
