Been coming to Islay for years. Look forward to eating here on our annual trip. always a favourite with Mom, Dad and children. This year not so much. Something has clearly gone wrong. staff were miserable and food well even more miserable. Tasteless with no thought or care gone into it. we were so so sad to see this happen to Ardbeg and we wondered why? when owned by such a big luxury corporation LVMH this experience was anything but luxury.

poor service, rubbish food, unfriendly place. Arrived to find the cafe closed (“for summer”) but they were letting people sit inside as the weather was cold and windy - but we had to order food from the Airstream outside. Limited menu, miserable staff (stony-faced, unfriendly and miserable) - ordered a “toastie” that wasn’t toasted. Rubbish really.

Good food, reasonable prices, friendly service in comfortable and historic surroundings - and the best sticky toffee pudding in recent memory! The Old Kiln Cafe at Ardbeg serves about 200 people at lunchtime, so there is sometimes a short wait for a table, but it never takes very long. Daily specials are available in addition to the standard lunch items such as sandwiches, paninis and soups (soups change daily). The fishcake is well worth trying (it's quite good), the hamburger, when available, is the best we have had on the island. And, of course, the sticky toffee pudding is just about too good for words!

Delicious lunch of haggis, neaps and tatties served with a dram. Decent value in a great setting if you are visiting this and/or other distilleries. Definitely worth trying a few drams of Ardbeg here also which are very fair at £2.50 each.....be sure to ask for what special bottles they have other than the core range on the menu.

I had a tour of the distillery with a nice tasting of their 8 year-old scotch. Very smokey and peaty which I really enjoyed. Then I had lunch in their cafe. I had hot and cold salmon with potatoes. It was very enjoyable. I enjoyed my day in the area seeing the distillery and hiking the footpath to and from the distillery. I would have eaten again at the cafe while I was on the island, but sadly it was closed for the next two days for an offsite event. I hope to be back soon to enjoy more great food and whiskeyI

Please, keep it that way, Ardbeg!!!

It's great that so many other reviewers have enjoyed the food at the Old Kiln Café. And I can say that the whole set-up at the Ardbeg Distillery is very impressive. Perhaps we arrived at a bad moment (1:15 on a Tuesday lunchtime), but it proved impossible to get served. We were assured we'd be served if we sat outside. However, several members of staff came and went busily. ...been to Lagavulin, came here for lunch. Stood in the queue to be seated, to first be queue jumped by an over enthusiastic exuberant Scottish lady in a loud blouse looking for a table for 5. Then the maitre d decided to also serve the Japanese bloke and his taxi driver behind us, then seemed surprised to tell us the restaurant was now full...we were to wait 20 mins for a table, so I looked outside and there was someone sitting on the picnic tables, so I asked 'can I sit outside?' No, came the reply, 'why not?' Because you haven't got a dog...'well can we assume I have a dog?' Two of us had lunch at the Old Kiln at the Ardbeg distillery, three miles from Port Ellen. It was well worth making the ferry crossing and 40 minute drive from Jura for. The initial welcome is not well managed: we stood by the 'wait here for a table' sign for several minutes even though there were several empty tables and the restaurant was quietening down towards the end of the luncheon service: Fielding new customers and sitting them down didn't seem to be high on anyone's priority list. Once we were seated, the service was excellent: our order was efficiently and swiftly taken, the food arrived very swiftly and our waitress was pleasantly personable. Two of us shared a mussels and langoustine marinieres pot - it was delicious and there was plenty to go around. The three cheese macaroni was equally good, but the highlight of the meal was the Ardbeg 21 year old whisky cheesecake (the cheesecake is flavoured with Ardbeg's 21 year old whisky) - superb and not at all overpowering. Full marks for food, atmosphere and value for money: with a bit of work on the meet and greet this would merit five stars.

No te decepcionará.

After a day of drinking whisky in 3 distilleries, what can be better than having a plate of Haggis or fish pie. Definitely suggest a fish pie.

A very popular place for lunch and it is easy to see why. The service was excellent and the food was very good value. I loved my mussels, some of the best I have had. Highly recommend it.

Excelente comida a precios decentes.

My wife and I had lunch here after a tour at the distillery. I had the mussels and my wife had salmon. Both dishes were hearty and good. Reasonably priced as well. Recommended!

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
