Had the black pudding toastie. Hardly any black pudding in it. Cost over £8. Totally not worth the money. Had lovely food here before, so was very disappointed this time.

We had a fabulous late lunch at the tearoom based on a working family farm with Christmas tree shop, we'll stocked farm shop with fresh eggs, cheeses etc and beautiful home bakes including scones, cakes etc. The soup was homemade and fantastic - there was also a gf option. I had toasties with salad, and my companion had the Farmer's Lunch with a very tasty broccoli and blue cheese quiche. We had a quality cuppa (Brodies) and bought some things to eat later at the hotel. All the staff seemed happy to work there, which adds to a pleasant visit. It was recommended by a local jewellery business and was a great recommendation. Would definitely visit again.

Ardardan always guarantees good food and attentive staff. We both really enjoyed our lunch and the lentil soup was so delicious I had an extra bowl. We finished off with two generous meringues and a cuppa. I had booked a table as our visit was at lunchtime and Julie who served us was fantastic.

My wife and I visited the coffee shop or restaurant within the garden centre today this was the first time that we have had lunch in this restaurant on arrival we were first greeted by a member of staff that asked If we required lunch or just tea or coffee my wife said that we were there for lunch as we first entered the restaurant the place was more or less empty the member of staff chose to place us at a table next to the main entrance door everybody passed this table on there way in and out of the restaurant, when my wife and I looked at the lunch menu and discussed the variation of hot food on offer we were very disappointed my wife chose a tuna toasty and I chose a honey roast ham toasty when our lunch arrived there was two toasties per plate along with a small portion of salad looking at what we were given this was more of a snack than a lunch there was no French fries on offer on the lunch menu which would have helped to call this a lunch with regards to my lunch I left half of my honey roast ham toasty on the plate I found the honey roast ham left a horrible after taste in my mouth, my wife and I were very disappointed with our lunch and we wont be returning,

Hard to find fresh baked produce that's wheat free or noted aa meal option on the Cafe menu. Noted most farms shops get in a Weekly fish catch from the boats as a delivery or fresh local produce eg bacon/ BBQ packs, spring lamb etc but not here..? Such need for fresh local produce or local grown vegetables from a local (farm) shops is there but met rather reluctantly and yearly serve a staple of a sandwich, soup, ..some average baked things for a special occasion or meal it's not the top Choice for a farm shop..

I took my husband for lunch and found the food disappointing.I had the gardeners lunch with appetizing lentil soup and a small tasteless cottage pie which was microwaved and pale in colour. My husband had a dish of microwaved macaroni which was overdone yet looked pale and unappetizing. It was very bouncy in the extreme and he did not eat much of it. We had a lovely pot of tea but that is really the only positive. It was expensive considering the poor standard. Staff were pleasant but appeared to be too many for the number of customers even though it was well after noon. Cakes looked good but we didn't have any.

We went there for lunch and the place was busy which felt like a good sign. We ordered the gardeners lunch which was a small cottage pie and a choice of soup , in our case lentil. We also had quiche and salad. When the food arrived it looked good but unfortunately tasted bland . Not just in the basics like salt and pepper but there was no flavour in the cottage pie or quiche. The best flavoured ordered was the soup. The cakes looked good but didn’t order any as wanted the illusion that they must taste great to remain!!

Brought two elderly ladies, one using a stick and the other a walking aid, to Afternoon Tea...table booked in advance. Lady at door pointed to top of the room and just told them it was " up at the top"...not the usual friendly welcome. Placed our tea and coffee order with a pleasant lady. Food arrived...sandwiches were really tasty and well filled, and scones were very large and fresh, but only jam and cream for two people supplied. I had told my guests about meringues, strawberry tarts and other delicious cakes, but to our disappointment, we were given 3 very small squares of plain lemon cake and 3 triangles of a mint Tiffin. I went to the counter to ask if there were any cream cakes, to be brusquely told that there weren't, so I asked for 3 of the other small cakes on offer to supplement the cake stand. At no time did anyone offer us a fresh pot of tea (which I would have happily paid for) or ask us if everything was all right. We were hovered over latterly as it was 15:45....nearly closing time. When I paid, a lady said not to charge for the extra 3 cakes as we had been disappointed. All in all, not what I have experienced in my many visits to Ardardan over the years.

Nice selection of products in both the shop and deli and very reasonably priced. We have lunched here on many occasions, but not for some considerable time. Have always considered the service fine and the quality of the food top notch. The pricing of the food is not unreasonable and very much in line with other good quality eateries. Called in for breakfast this morning. I had the Full Monty, and my wife had a breakfast roll. I live locally and am a regular visitor to Cardross so thought I would respond to recent poor rating by Yvonne C. Visited Ardarden on Sunday with my mother. I am a Lentil soup person however was tempted by the Chicken Noodle soup. As usual the service was prompt and soup was piping hot when it arrived, along with lovely fresh bread. It was clearly freshly made and was excellent. Followed it up with coffee, and carrot cake, that I found to be very tasty. I am not sure what Yvonne C expected of Ardarden however her impression is not the same as mine, and the many other visitors, as evidenced by how busy the restaurant was on Sunday. It is good to see that the comments have been responded to, an excellent piece of PR. You cannot please everyone and I look forward to seeing your changes this year. Keep up the good work!!

I visited Ardardan Tearoom yesterday afternoon to have coffee and cake with a friend, and it is an awful place! So old fashioned, pine table and chairs, very uncomfortable chairs I might add, the place was very busy, but I can't understand why. My friend and I both had cake, carrot for me, coffee and walnut for her, very small portions, although that proved to be a blessing in disguise as they were not at all nice, so very dry and tasteless. I have been once or twice before and wasn't impressed, but it's such a shame as the garden centre itself is very nice, but definitely will not go back, oh and it wasn't cheap either!

I have been visiting this tearoom for many years but was very disappointed today. My husband and I thought we would sample the afternoon tea. My grandson, aged 14, was hungrier and had a tuna melt panini which he enjoyed. Our afternoon tea cost £9.25 per person. For this we got 3 sandwiches (not even 2 slices of bread) each, a tiny piece of traybake and small meringue. All of which was very pleasant and it could have been saved had the scone not been ridiculously small. We got one each the size of a 50p piece. It was so small there was really no inside, just hard outside. It said on the menu 'of course it includes a home made scone with jam and cream'. It did not say miniscule scone. I was not expecting a giant one that most places seem to serve now but just the sort you would bake yourself. There was enough jam and cream for a normal sized scone, really far too much for what was delivered. My daughter has since told me that afternoon teas really have become the latest form of nouvelle cuisine and, if this is the case, I shall not be having another. If we had purchased one sandwich, scone, meringue, traybake and just halved everything, added two small pots of tea, we would have had as much food and could have saved a few pounds.

We went here on Xmas eve to pick up the turkey and decided to have a light lunch before heading back to the house. Menu is varied and has daily specials. I had the soup and sandwich deal the lentil soup was gorgeous and even though turkey was on the menu for the following day I decided on the turkey with all the trimmings sandwich on brown bread. Absolutely gorgeous tasting lite bite. Took half of my sandwich home to have later. Hubby had the cheese scone special cheese scone with cream cheese and smoked salmon curled on top. He loved it a great lunch had by all of us.

On a cold wintry day this is a very homely warm place to stop for lunch and a chat Not easy to spot from the road but the staff are very welcoming The soup is home made and excellent value, the rest of the menu is varied and the specials are all delicious The staff are first class and though busy have time to chat and look after each table Would recommend

Three of us visited on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon at the beginning of October. Tea room - staff really attentive and friendly - we had tea and cakes - fruit slice or fly cemetery as we knew it as children lovely - walnut & coffee cake a bit on the dry side but caramel and banana pie beautiful !Lovely gift shop with some nice different pieces.Food shop had a wonderful range of olives and cheeses - well impressed !Garden centre - small but nice.Unfortunately couldn't have a good walk as one of our party is disabled but still enjoyed a wander round the perimeter of the centre.

Albeit I live within five miles of the tearoom, this was our first visit and most enjoyable it was. The tea room came recommended and certainly did not disappoint. The food could not be faulted in any way and the staff, very helpful. We have already talked about out return and know what we what we want to order.

We (two couples) stopped here for a light lunch. We all had various soups - which were very good. We had ordered sandwiches to be served with the soup, but Carolann seemed a bit forgetful. So after asking again we shared two rounds of sandwiches between the four of us, one of us had a carton of juice and three of us had tea. The sandwiches were well filled and very tasty. The soups were competitively priced at £3.95, and the juice at £1.45.But the tea! One pot with a few teabags for £5.85 I could understand £1.95 for one pot/one person, but surely there should be a sliding scale of charges for adding another bag or too?Notwithstanding that, we all enjoyed our lunch.

En route home from Lochgilphead we called in for a light lunch early on a Sunday afternoon. Very busy and noisy but the Lentil soup was tasty as were the coffees and scones. Staff very pleasant and attentive as usual. On paying our bill a glance at the 'tip bowl' on the counter noted a maximum coin value of 20p. Felt embarrassed adding a £1 coin.

Stopped here on a lovely sunny afternoon. Very pleasant run down to the tearoom. Friendly staff and a good sized restaurant, very extensive menu , and everything home baked . We chose the afternoon tea , it was delicious, fresh sandwiches with good fillings , small scones with jam and thick cream . Meringues were light as a feather. It would have been slightly better to have been served a pot of tea / coffee , than just a cup as we had to order a 2nd cuppa due to the size of the afternoon tea . Would recommend this place as a excellent find

Lovely setting and great food. Homemade lentil soup was delicious and served with brown rustic bread which can be bought in the adjoining shop which was a bonus. Cake choice is amazing - there's bound to be something for everyone. Attentive but not intrusive waiting staff make the experience relaxed and enjoyable. There is a garden centre and lovely gift shop too.

Went for lunch with my fiance and daughter which was warm fresh and the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly. Decided to opt to go on the tractor and trailer ride and for the cost of £3 I wasn't expecting much and could not have been more wrong. The farmer was great and we were out for at least a half hour. He talked to us the whole time about the animals and even got out to feed the highland cows so that they would come right over and got the sheepdog out to round up the sheep much to my daughter's delight. We went through all the fields which was a fantastic experience. Could not rate this place and it's staff/owners highly enough.

We have recently moved here and it is down the road from us. We passed it several times and thought we would look in one afternoon. It has a lovely little farm shop with fresh produce/flowers grown on the land. Coffee shop selling lovely cakes. Reasonably priced for the quality (don't expect cheap n cheerful, you pay for what you get). There are small gardens and a fountain pond for events and picnics if you want to have a cheap day out along with a woodland walk, path leading between some field that hold chickens, sheep and a piggy.they offer tractor rides at the weekend too (at a charge). Our 18month old loved the animals, walking along the paths and splashing in the puddles. Great place to kill a couple of hours.

My wife and I often pay a visit here after visiting Helensburgh or Gielston Gardens. The garden centre is a big attraction and always looks god.Few such places nowadays tend their own herbaceous beds. There is always an interesting selection of food for sale in the main hall and a wide range of garden supplies available from compost to seeds.Whatever the weather a seat in the tearoom is welcome. The menu is extensive for a place of its size and the food very fresh. The staff are pleasant and friendly as well as serving the food quickly. This is a good place for anything from a cup of tea to a large and varied lunch.

Having visited Ardardan twice before for lunch which was very nice, my husband and I decided to go for a much needed cuppa and tasty treat after visiting Geilston Gardens today. We checked the hours of opening and saw that as it was only four o'clock, we had an hour to enjoy a seat and something to eat and drink before the place closed at five o'clock. How wrong we were. Ardarden closes its tearoom at four o'clock, a full hour before the premises close. A carryout tea or coffee from the farm shop just doesn't hit the mark.Come on Ardarden. You are right on the tourist trail. It was a scorching hot day with plenty of people still around. I'm embarrassed to imagine what tourists think when visiting our lovely part of the world and this is the kind of 'hospitality' we provide in the height of summer. Family run businesses on the continent will invariably remain open while there are still customers because they are there to provide a service and it is good for their business.A major rethink is necessary as to what the purpose of the business is. Is it to suit the proprieters or the supposedly much valued customer? I'm not suggesting that you remain open until all hours but surely a six o'clock closing time in the middle of the summer when we have so many visitors around would not be too much to ask particularly at the weekend. You will no doubt use staffing as a reason for early closing but with either a shift system or paring down numbers after 4 o'clock this could surely be achieved. Such a shame that this lets down a nice tearoom with good staff in a lovely situation.

Was out for a cycle and made this place my goal to reach. As always staff are very welcoming. Had the macaroni cheese which was absolutely delicious with crusty bread and a side salad. The cakes on offer looked very tempting but I had to pass this time as I have to cycle back up the hill. Would definately recommend eating here.

I was on my own today and spotted this place. First impressions, quaint and peaceful, a calm setting, very tempting products in the shop as you stroll through. Children were there and they were so happy, the animals had had their attention and all that fresh air running around outside. The plants look very healthy and then there is a little shop with all sorts of gift itemsI wandered into the tea room and full intention was just for a pot of teaFor many years my partner and I have been disappointed with the ploughmans, they are nothing like they used to be. Well, try the farmers lunch. I couldn't eat it all. It didn't look a massive portion at first impression but I had a job to plough through it. And it was delicious!!Another pot of tea and a read of my book and I realised the café was empty!!I made an exit to let the lovely girls clean my table. Oops, sorry girlsI did however, stop and buy some cheese and a large pot of the pickled onions. Now they are heaven!Just one quick comment. Who on earth needs CHIPS when such delicious healthy and well thought out menu with quality food on your plate. When you go to top restaurants, their menus are not massive, the options are small, the quality high and they probably don't provide the chips either. Well done sticking to your guns. We will be back many times and what a joy someone isn't changing their principles to suit the minority, there were a lot of people in there and I didn't hear any grumbles just lots of chatter and laughter. It was so nice to eat a meal without counting calories and wondering what meal you will miss to balance your diet.(Told you I would do a review) oh and I'm still full!!

Ardardan is definitely one of the best places in this area to go for a good lunch or just coffee and cake. This friendly family - run tea room, shop and garden Centre has something for the whole family. Loads on offer for the kids, thanks to Hannah and her team; the tea room staff led by Sarah are friendly ( always service with a smile here) the food is freshly cooked and the baking is to die for. Gluten and dairy free is usually available too. May's gluten & dairy free apple tart is scrumptious .No shortage of goodies to buy in the shop and an ideal place to find gifts and cards for any occasion. The plants are especially attractive and varied this spring. All of the Montys and their staff make Ardardan a very special place to visit. I love it.

Food nice but repetitive. Tables crowded with 'things' on them. Portions fine but not over generous. WHY do they not serve CHIPS? You go on holiday abroad and you can get chips. Chips are celebrated in Belgium. In Greece they make the best chips. In Scotland we grow the most wonderful potatoes in Europe. BUT you can't have chips at Ardarden. Hurrumph!

A lovely garden centre with cafe on the north bank of the river Clyde which is great for a family visit - there really is something for everyone. The garden centre has a wide range of very good quality plants and gardening equipment; the cafe provides excellent food, drinks and service and the adjacent farm often has animals to see close-up. Often too, there are lots of activities for children of various ages, including an outdoor play area, a woodland walk and appropriate seasonal things - e.g. at Easter & Christmas

Wow, what a wonderful place! Lovely shops and garden centre, all in lovely surroundings, nestled in the middle is this delightful tea room.Had panini for lunch, simply delicious! Finished by sharing a mint aero cake and tablet cheesecake, wow, all of it so delicious. Fortunately we got there early as it was very busy (weekday lunchtime) so would advise booking (if you can) or getting there before 12/1230pm. Will visit again.

Great tea rooms....went over for brunch with my wife. Really enjoyed it. Good choice of food. Some very original plates. Use of local produce. There's passion and love in their food. Even a simple side salad accompanying the sandwiches was clearly thought through.....its not everyday to have grapes and orange slices in your salad. The accompanying salad dressing was also fantastic. Some of the products used can be found in their farm shop. The choice of cakes was quite impressive. They even had 4 gluten free types of cakes. Will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes. As a side note, the staff were very easy going and very polite. The tearooms are located in a lovely surrounding on the bank of the river Clyde, however you do need to know where you're going to find it.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
