Four of us had a family night out at the Anglo Spice Grill yesterday. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was very good quality with generous portions. My vegan daughter was very well catered for. Prices were reasonable and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our night out.

Yeah this place really isn't all that much. There are various better restaurants within a 5 minute walk (el bacio, rasa, franco manca, yum yums). The waiters push you to get the buffet because they can't be arsed to cook/serve anything else and the prices aren't great for what you get. It's fine, but nothing special.

On a trip down Memory Lane to Stoke Newington, we arrived there starving and happened across the Anglo Spice Grill. Delicious food, good friendly service, a free glass of sherry while we were looking at the menu and a complimentary fruit plate arrived with the bill. The only downside was that the restaurant was cold, although they did put the heating on.......as we were leaving!

We were looking for a quick meal and found this restaurant, which was advertising a buffet. There was a pretty wide selection - chicken, prawn, lamb, and several vegetable dishes. The food was fresh and of good quality, only the naans were a bit disappointing, not as fresh as the rest of the food. Poppadom starters were available, and fruit as a desert. The lassi yogurt drink was excellent. Ambience was snug, quiet and friendly. Excellent value for money.

I’ve lived in this area all my life and I’ve never been to this place, till today. I’ve walked passed and seen it many times. I had the Sunday buffet, £10.95 for an adult and just under £7.00 for a child under 10. I’ve scrolled through these reviews and noticed the buffet price has gone up. Still reasonable. Atmosphere was ok, a bit nippy inside and quite empty which i didn’t mind. The server came over quite quickly and gave us our plates, (later on I wanted a new plate for my daughter as she had some left over food she didn’t want and I was told only one plate per customer. Ok) he then said we can help ourselves. I couldn’t help but notice signs up saying “please don’t waste food” and with that I also noticed the quantity of food was quite small. There was no rice at first so we had to wait a few moments for that to arrive. Also, we had to wait a few times for the rice and naan bread to be refilled as they only put out small quantities at a time. I must say The food doesn’t have too much of a variety and there is a vegan side too. What really let me down was the food being cold. I had to ask for it to be warmed up as some of it was actually stone cold. Once warmed, the food is absolutely delicious!! The naan bread is the best ever and I just wish the food was warm from the beginning as this would have made us enjoy it even more. If you go here during the week, there is no buffet so I’m certain your food will arrive fresh and piping hot however, if you do go on a buffet Sunday, make sure they warm the food first and you’ll absolutely love it! I’d go here again but I doubt I will go for the buffet. I would have given this place 5 stars but cold food is not what I expect from a restaurant even if it is delicious!

This place seemed more interested in fulfilling Deliveroo orders than in serving seated customers. We waited so long after finishing the poppadoms that one member of our group went to ask if we would get fed that evening. The food then swiftly arrived and what a disappointment. The dahl was so runny it could have been drunk through a straw, the chick peas were very undercooked and the house speciality chicken was actually bits of chicken tikka in a not too bad sauce. The least said about the fish dish the better! The nan bread was OK though.

Experience: meal, atmosphere, serviceMy friends and I were walking along Church Street wondering where to go for dinner when one friend recommended that we try the new Indian restaurant that none of us had tried before. Whilst looking at the menu we ordered poppadoms with dips, which were really tasty. Whilst waiting for our starters to arrive we were given a complimentary sherry. We all enjoyed the lamb tikka starter and the meat samosa. We each ordered a curry, one of which was recommended to my friend when he ordered and we all commented on how nice they were. At the end of the meal we had a dessert and was given complimentary slices of orange, a nice touch. For two starters, three curries, rice, naan, two beers and a dessert the bill came to around £50. I think that the restaurant had been recently renovated and was a lovely environment. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. I'm not going to lie, when my sister suggested this place I was a little reluctant to try anything but the usual Rasa across the road but I am actually thankful that we went here. The vegetarian options are amazing. We ordered the okra, daal, spinach & potato and the aubergine - all side dishes as mains. To start we ordered samosas, came out very quickly and the mixture was so tasty. A nice thing about this restaurant is that when you get there they give you complimentary olives. The spicy poppadoms come with the usual yogurt chutney, mango chutney, salad but this place has a really unique sauce that I have never tried anywhere before and I asked the really nice guy serving us about it and he said it's a special sauce that they created to stand out from the competition. Believe me, they do. Okay for the mains. The okra was cooked to perfection, no slimey, not too many onions like I find with south Indian cooking, peppers, fresh tomatoes and an amazing combination of spices. The daal was mouthwatering, not too thin and very simple. The spinach and potato was probably my favourite, such a simple dish cooked so well. The aubergine was great too but always personally prefer it cooked without the skin. The size of them are so huge we had to have some taken away. We ordered a garlic naan and the most fragrant coconut rice. If you like your coconut rice subtle, it may not be for you. As for the service, I cannot fault it. Nor can I fault their toilets, amazingly clean and well lit, unlike some of the curry houses on the very same road. I never write reviews but I was so impressed by the food and the service and felt a little sad that in the whole restaurant it was just me and my sister whilst Rasa across the road was packed and the food is not actually any better. Oh and the prices here for what you get are fantastic! So don't be a super judgmental cow like I was about the decor and neon sign, this is the only place I will now go to for a curry when I'm in the Stokey ends. I am going to copy and past this on all food review websites so don't judge me, it took me a while to write it up.

I had chicken dish which was very tasty - can't recall the name but it is served at celebrations according to the menu. My wife had tandoori mixed grill which she enjoyed - large portions. I'm a local N16er and write reviews for both fellow locals and visitors. The Anglo Spice Grill, previously known as the Anglo Asian Tandoori Restaurant, was an old N16 favourite. It was rather famous for its delicious weekday buffet. It has however been re-launched / re-born as the Anglo Spice Grill after an 18-month make over. I think its fair to say no one use to visit for the ambience, more for the good Indian food and kitsch interior. Since the re-launch, are the owners seeking to be 'all things to all people'? I had a good chat with the manager during ordering and whilst he was very friendly, I was confused by the Turkish dishes offered at an Indian restaurant. He claimed this was to cater for differing tastes... but his explanation did not seem that convincing. We ordered two staple dishes, the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala. Both were dreadfully sweet and did not differ in taste, but only in colour. The nan bread was ok but the rice followed the way of the main dishes, being not very nice, despite being basmati, at least on the menu. The food was very bland and sweet. I did mention this to the manager and he said we'd selected very plain dishes to begin with. Its now clear this re-branding exercise has been to obtain mass appeal, catering perhaps to larger, post beer-drinking parties. We didn't see much change from £30 and left feeling fleeced. Although the manager was friendly and invited us back, saying next time things will be different, I don't think we'll bother. If you want North Indian food, best to head to Masala Zone, just up the road in Islington. This is a harsh review of a well loved place, but until they resume their original menu, it stands. I go as far as saying, it is probably best to avoid this place if you want a somewhat authentic Indian dining experience.

For the mentioned water we had to ask 3 times. food was nice but nothing special and annoyingly it wasn't coming at the same time for everyone (5 of us in total) when the first person almost finished their meal the last one was still waiting for theirs. The restaurant itself looks ok, however the toilets are one of the worst I have ever seen. I have been always saying that the best restaurants you can recognize by their toilets... if they don't care about the cleanness toilets (place the customers see) they don't care about the kitchen (where the customers can't see).....

If a score of zero could be given then these guys would deserve it. Its evident that service and quality is something the management of this restaurant do not realise exist. What was once a reasonably good local Indian restaurant and takeaway is now a complete embarrassment. After having a number of below average meals in the restaurant and experiencing terrible delivery service on a particular occasion we decided to give the angloasian the benefit of the doubt. What a mistake. After placing a telephone order for delivery and waiting way beyond what a reasonable person would expect for food to arrive (almost 2 hours and a number of calls - after being quoted 50mins) the food turned up. The restaurant must be given credit though for consistency - maintaining its below par standards - as well as terrible customer service the food was as poor quality as the previous experience and wonderfully enhanced by its just about luke warm temperature.

Today I decided to take my family back to where I was born and spent most of my working life - Stoke Newington. The sun was out and a pleasant morning was had walking and reminicing around Clissold Park and the local area. An excellent meal was had inside the cafe, a bit pricey, but "you get what you pay for" I thought to myself. The food was out of the World. On the way home found this restaurant and was taken in by their `Summer Quick Lunch` which looked a bargain (See photo). If only I had remembered my earlier quote that you get what you pay for.All in all one of the worst meals that I have ever had the misfortune to be served up. The waiter/barman/chef/ was most taken aback when I complained that the definition of a Fruit Salad goes something like:`Fruit salad - Fruit cocktail (1922) is a mixture of sliced or diced fruits, and it is synonymous with fruit cup (1931); fruit salad (1861) is a salad composed of fruits`.The fruit salad consisted of three pieces of an orange. The cucumber raitha was yoghurt with SIX strands of grated cucumber in it. The salad I think was probably prepared yesterday (but admittedly the sign doesn`t indicate it is a fresh salad!).All in all if you are going to the Anglo Asian Tandoori at 60-62 Church Street I would seriously give the `Summer Quick Lunch` a second thought.

I had read some of the reviews and was therefore a little apprehensive about what to expect but i have to say i was pleasantly suprised.Service was good, and attentive and the food was a cut above a standard curry house, both the Chicken Madras and the Chicken Dhansak were really good. Not a part of London that i would usually have much need to visit but i would certainly return if was passing.

My family visited this establishment a few months ago. Whilst we enjoyed the food I thought the service rather average However, at the end of the meal I asked for bill but did not volunteer a tip. The waiter then asked me for a tip.which I ignored,he then asked me a further two times. Eventually, I succumbed and gave a tip. Surely the customer should be given the opportunity to decide rather then being pressured into providing a tip based on appreciated services

Another enjoyable evening at the Anglo Asian. Very attentive staff make this place a gem. they will cook food to your requirements and make suggestions if you are not sure of what to have. I tend to have the chicken Shashlic that is low on the carbs and quite healthy. Vegetables are nicely cooked with extra kick if you ask for it. Atmosphere is good and value for money exceptional.

My wife and I visit this restaurant on a weekly basis. We have extensive experience with Indian cuisine, in London, India and at home. The food here is excellent. Much better than neighbouring Rasa (the original). The ingredients are fresh, the choice is varied and the ambiance is comfortably casual. Although the service is not always perfect, this remains one of our favourite choices for curry in London with great value for money.

One of my favourite indian restaurants, you can choose to sit outside where they should have seatings, quite expensive, portions are ok, really nice view even tho it's on a cramped road, waiters a lil pervy but good service tho, very friendly

I wish this was still open. It’s either closed or only open intermittently. The cocktails genuinely taste like completely new flavours and the food is exceptional.

Booked a table for 12 people really easily. There was a lovely outdoor area with shade we were able to sit in which was fantastic. Table set up really good for a large group and staff helped push two
