Amazing food, big plates and tasty

I used to come here years ago when I worked locally. Popped back in with a friend for a drop in dinner, and the food was all some-what emancipated and sodium rich. I will say that we both went away from our stereotypical orders, but we left feeling disappointed and underwhelmed - instead wishing we'd gone for pizza around the corner.

Racist waiter. I visited Mien Tay for a friends birthday dinner. Upon arrival I was the first one out of my friends there, I was greeted by w very rude older waiter. Who claimed my friend had not booked a table and told me to sit in the corner (just a single random chair) by the entrance and contact my friend. I was taken back but I contacted my friend who said she is sure she booked. Another waiter also noticed this man was very rude to me and apologised for his nasty attitude. A few minutes later some more friends arrive and he greets them with a smile and seats them. I felt singled-out. Later on when the food arrived, i was not given a plate to dish up my food - my friend asked for a large plate for me to be able to place my separate dishes on to combine. The rude older waiter said no, and that the small used plate I have will do. The whole table was shocked by his response (especially because friends of mine who ordered bowls of ramen was given a large plate underneath). The table felt he was being rude and dismissive of me due to the colour of my dark skin. Which I felt also but the fact a group of my friends recognised this, who are white, confirmed my beliefs. Apart from this the food was tasty but I will NOT be going back due to such a nasty waiter

Pretty good value dinner, nothing to rave about but the food was authentic and the service was fast.

We had our Christmas party at Mein. Pretty good value for money. The service was okay, but it can be improved by using a different service, particularly when serving the food ( it was quite slow, as the dishes arrived one at the time, and some were placed in wrong person at the table.

Food was cold and staff took a long time brining everything out, honestly not worth it. The o my good thing was this small man laughing all night

I can’t believe I didn’t look at reviews before coming here. Came in for a quick solo dinner, order salad rolls and pho… Salads rolls were so small and cold and a rip off for the quality and quantity you get.. esp for £7! It’s shocking. Pho was bland, and did not taste like they spent time on the broth. Service was a joke. I’m secretly wishing I had the guts to ask them to remove service charge! I asked 3 times for someone to take my order, each time the older male said yah one second, then the female next to her goes and asks a table of 4 if they are ready, and they say no and then leaves without asking me… whose asked 3 x to her colleague.. and I’m sitting right next to them. She then tells Me another person will Help me. What’s that all about ? Restaurant was not busy at all, doesn’t look like they have sections either so I am very confused why she was unable to help me? Either 0 stars if I could.

Can always come here for reliable Vietnamese food. Not only is the food top notch, the service here makes you feel at home. I recommend the pork chop rice and beef pho. Good prices and always a fun atmosphere.

The pork with black bean sauce was actually really good.

Awful !!! Don’t go , they are very impolite!!! When you ask for the menu, they blame you to say that he is busy and ask next time to wait. Okay, no one knows your culture , what a joke !!! No one should get blame if you ask politely to order .

Date night and it was awful. Left waiting in the corner for 30mins and had to reminds the waiter that we were there. The chicken pho was off. Meats tasted off.

Gets 5 star because of the history and love we had coming here with our friends

Food is wonderful and really well priced issuebi had was for large periods at the beginning one of the people working their, sitting at the back couldn't stop staring at my sister, eyes roaming over and over until I had to literally stare at him. And my wife had to t look over and stare. Was deeply uncomfortable. Good food but definitely don't get seated at the back

Staple to Kingsland road, reliable and swift service but not as it used to be. They've changed items on the menu so check if they still have what you used to order e.g. aubergine in garlic now comes with tofu but I asked for it plain. No more free prawn crackers at the start of the meal and prices understandably have gone up.

Great food,good prices and BYOB ,what more could you ask for, except big food portions and they do those too ,all very impressed 👍

Worst service we’ve ever experienced. Sat at the table and 10-15min pass before anyone says anything to us. No water nothing. The waiter didn’t know what the dishes were when we asked about a certain dish. He went to ask the main manager but was shunned off. He came back and vaguely said “it might be” Then 5min later a woman came and asked us if we can move to another table to try get more people in. We’d requested a window seat and had been sat there ages with shoddy service. We left the restaurant as the service was shocking, we weren’t treated or were spoken to with any respect at all. Luckily we found a beautiful place called Sen Viet up the road which was absolutely out of this world delicious and the service was impeccable.

It was my regular Viet restaurant before Covid time, visit again for family birthday dinner. They are very honest people as i forgot my wallet and they keep it safe for me.

Mien Tay offers an authentic culinary experience. The flavors in their dishes are rich and satisfying. The cozy ambiance and friendly service add to the overall enjoyment of the meal.

When we went there, it was very busy. Although the waiting staff tried their best, it think they were understaffed. The food was good although heavy use of MSG made all the food taste the same and you get bored after a while. I'd like to visit again in a quiet time.

Nice food and good service. You can bring your own alcoholic drinks. The lady probably the owner of the restaurant is very friendly and smiling all the time. The service charge included in the bill.

The food is wonderful. The £4 a head corkage is a bit steep, but I guess that's what they all charge near there. Well worth a visit if you want some authentic Vietnamese food, the buns are fantastic.

good service and the best selection of gluten free meals I've ever seen in my life. Bring your on booze with a small charge. There was four of us and everyone one had starter and main all diffrent and there was nothing to complain about was very tasty Came to a about £20 person and I think you'll stuggle to beat the price and the quality. Be warned the staff busy so no messing with your ording so efficiency is key. And food will be with you very quick! All in all an amazing experience!

BANGING FOOD service amazing they are lovely people would go again 😋

The food is fine but god forbid you're just trying to have a nice slow night with your friends and take time with your food. Even when there was still food on the plates, towards the end when a small plate amount was left, every 5 minutes a waiter would come over asking whether we were done. It got extremely annoying. They clearly need more or any communication between themselves. Half the staff was just lacking manners. Though what I noticed was that the bad ones were actually nice to the Caucasian customers. So that double-standard was off-putting to witness. A couple of the waiters would even look at you up and down judging you. It's a very unprofessional environment. The auntie was nice but the other female waiter tonight was just full of attitude despite us being courteous throughout. Don't know how they're still open or how she's even working there.

Great BYOB, me and my friends come here all the time and the food is always delicious and authentic.

Not the best experience here. I was waiting for my food for 10 minutes after my friend's received theirs. I ordered chicken in black bean sauce and rice. The meat was definitely pre-cooked and was chewy. The Sauce was overly sweet like somebody had thrown a bag of sugar into it. The service was friendly albeit a bit slow.

Really great Vietnamese food at an affordable price

I order spring roll for starter and vermicelli spring roll salad. The waiter told me ‘too much spring roll, you should cancel that starter’. I said ‘sure but instead can I get summer roll.’ The guy didn’t repeat his order or anything to make sure’. My ONLY starter came, Such a small portion practically 2 whole spring roll cut in half.. small 4 chunks. After I found out my main didn’t came. I didn’t eat anything the whole day and I felt so hungry and frustrated watching my boyfriend eating his food WHILE my main didn’t come. I ask the waiter where main? He gaslighted me and talked over me saying ‘ you cancel it’. I said ‘NO I pointed out I wanted vermicelli spring roll salad and cancel the starter fried spring roll’. HONESTLY have no energy to argue with his arrogant attitude. Not even simple sorry. So rude customer service. Finally my main came after my boyfriend finish. I left with a takeaway cause couldn’t enjoy it anymore. Audacity for 10% service charge on the bill too. it feels horrible being starved without my main, while watching my boyfriend eating his main. -_- give it extra star for the free orange

This place is brilliant! Really good menu with something for everybody on it. Makes no bones about what it does which is serve very good Vietnamese good. Service is good and the staff are friendly. You can either order their booze off the menu or bring your own with a corkage fee Real buzz about this place when it's busy!!

Very rude waiters, always rushing customers to leave, and being rude when I was confused about a dish. Food was extremely cold, they messed up our order bringing different dishes. No worth coming back ever again.

Not sure why it can be busy and filled with people. I think it is the BYOB service that the restaurant offers where people really enjoyed it. Food wise, just average. The seafood pancake was so oily. My pho was pretty tasteless. The fried noodles, the only thing that taste good was the pork thst tasted like satay bbq meat. Overall disappointing experience.

with a name like Mien Tay you would think this place specialized in Thai noodles. not so. in fact, to my surprise and delight i found it to be very anti thai

The food here is great! One of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have eaten at in London. The only downside is the service is slow as it seems that they are understaffed so the wait time is quite long.

Food is very delicious! And they serve you orange at the end. Nice touch. It gets busy though so some wait time. But I can see the staff working very hard so don't want to speed them up anymore.

Fine if you want to come get wasted with your 10 friends since it's a BYOB. Avoid at all cost if your are a couple coming for a chill night! Food is ok but as every other reviews say, the service is a gamble and they will probably forget half of your dishes. Okay overall.

Extremely poor service, waiting staff as so busy all the time and takes ages to get their attention to place your order and ages to get you good . Food is fine but the whole experience on service was awful. I can find same food somewhere else with better service . Would not recommend at all

Had to wait for an hour for our food, which was average at best. Staff was overwhelmed by the amount of clients in the room. One of them (maybe the owner?) was very friendly and hardworking thought, running around non stop 👍. Would not return.

You can pretty much guarantee a tasty, reasonably priced meal here The place is normally heaving, with walk in only, however they were able to accommodate our party of 5 quickly. Dishes are served quickly and the taste is consistent on each visit BYOB too, always a plus.

99% sure I got food poisoning from this meal - should have known when the spring rolls came out luke warm tbh. I will say that it’s a fun and cheap BYO place to eat with friends that lets you sit down quite late, but not worth spending a week in bed for.

Very under average Vietnamese food

Waited an hour for starters to arrive. Far too busy and understaffed yet kept sitting new customers down. Food itself ranged from average to poor for the price.

Great no frills BYOB, had a great time!

Been going to this restaurant for 11 years thanks to the nice reasonably priced food, but my last time was really disappointing. The whole top floor was tended by a poor teenager who did what he could, but he was alone and unexperienced, and therefore the service was really poor and everything took forever. The soft shell crispy crab had always been a whole crab served as such; this time it was some pieces of, say, 1 sq cm with waaay "more crispy than crab" (if any) and, in generals, the portions have shrunk in the last few months. My main (duck pancakes) was still lovely if you leave aside the fact that they forgot about it and I had to first look at my friends eating theirs, and then eat my food alone. We saw the other tables getting the usual complimentary half orange which is a nice thing -but for some reason our table did not get it this time, for the first time in years. Despite all the problems, they added the service charge to our bill, which I agreed to pay because I was with friends and I didn't want to make a scene, but they should honestly think about whether they deserved it or not. The prices are nothing like they used to be (they are basically 2x compared to before the pandemic) so, next time, when I want to spend that kind of money, I will seriously think if I want to go there or somewhere where food quality and quantity hasn't gone downhill in the last few months, and with better service.

Have been at the restaurant a few times, and is always busy. The service is good but nothing to what it used to be. We love the prawn toast and crisp vegetable rolls. Some of the dishes are difficult to understand but the staff do explain what they are, but not in good detail My partner ordered a dish and it has ended being cold noodles with hot seafood, which it wasn't the best. December 22 Back to one of our favourite places which it was busy when we arrived but after a few minutes we had a table. We have ordered few mix dishes which there were nice and especially the vegetable spring rolls which we have ordered extra. There's is an issue with communication as we ended receiving items which we never ordered and being charged for. After we have pointed the issue it was altered.

I really wanted to put 0 star here but I couldn’t. The staff is very rude and not helpful at all. I love noodles and that was the reason why I chose to try a Vietnamese restaurant. My friend and I ordered crispy noodles with prawns and when we received the dish we found the noodles raw, not cooked. When I tried to explain this to the staff member who came with the food, he didn’t let me talk and he started shouting at me saying you need to pay you need to pay as if his only concern was money and not the welfare of the customer. Everyone inside the restaurant was looking at us and we felt very embarrassed. Terrible. I have never seen such rude people in my entire life.

Pretty good, but I found the pho broth was a bit watered down compared to other pho. It was rammed with people ad well so the service took a long time.

A small family run business that you can tell get rushed of their feet. I visited on a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy, the busiest Vietnamese restaurant on the street infact. Due to this the customer service isn’t the best, quick and abrupt but I wouldn’t call it rude as such I think they are just super busy. Food - veg spring rolls were average, I couldn’t tell what was in them but they were very dense inside, instead of crispy vegetables. I got the grilled pork vermicelli bun which was nice, I had to add some chilli oil and more soy sauce etc but generally was nice flavours. Pork was a little chewy but decent overall. If I came back will most likely get the standard vermicelli as my friend got that and it had more flavour. They gave fresh fruit as a complimentary dessert which is a sweet touch !

Best vietnamese place in London.

An affordable Vietnamese that does a range of Asian cuisine. One of the few places that does crispy duck pancakes in this area. Very attentive staff, often busy on the weekends.

The restaurant decoration was a bit old but feel like we were in Vietnam. However you should not expect kindness. That makes us feel more like Vietnam. And it wasn’t hygienically perfect but it was okay due to the excellence of food! The food was great in particular steamed sea bass was top notch! Banseo also was you should have!

Food was okay, service fast but after ordering one dish wrongly for summer rolls (which they prepare beginning of the day anyway), the waiter made a lot of fuss and began ranting at us for how we should've ordered correctly, citing how other customers would do this too and refused to change it to what we originally wanted. This really made a scene...and he was quite rude about it. Fortunately we didn't touch the dish and they did not charge us; it was not a pleasant experience

價位實惠 份量充足 推推蒸魚🐟 塞了薑絲去腥 醬油味也不會太重但一點點偏鹹 不過魚的質量不錯 新鮮好吃 鹽酥炸青蛙腿 不太推 蛙肉有股生肉味道 可以再處理的更好 鮮蝦🦐木瓜絲 中規中矩 也沒有特別不好或突出 醬料都是常見的大眾醬料 少了特別的調味點吸睛 不過以價位來說 還是很實惠

So good! amazing place to came with friends or as a couple. Also, you can bring your own boost and drinks, so that’s amazing. The green papaya salad it’s absolutely the best! Also the pak choi was so good. Second time I came and definitely I will come back.

I love love love this food! I ordered the vegetable fried rice and some vegetable spring rolls and everything was super yummy. The waiter was quite friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Solid, my favourite out of all the places on Kingsland Road. BYOB is always a bonus. Order one of the papaya salads to freshen up your pallet.

Please stay away from this place! I don’t like leaving bad reviews but We were eating and saw a MOUSE walking beside our table! We didn’t want to be loud and let other people panic so we left all our food (we didn’t eat our mains basically) and informed the manager who shamefully gave us the bill without even being apologetic. She only acted suspicious like that was an excuse not to pay!! Long story short we paid the bill anyway !! (Receipt available) We are local and this will be a “very good” advert for them!

Went for dinner with a group of friends one night, I read the menu before hand and saw loads of vegetarian options. Upon arriving I ordered the vegetable stir fry with tofu. When it came out it was not a “mixed veggie stir fry” but a bunch of bok choy, 3 carrots, & 4 pieces of tofu in a watery sauce. Not sure how this is mixed veggie, but it gets worse. I immediately tasted a fishy residue from the veggies but I assumed it was my other friends meals wafting over to me. Immediately upon arriving home I feel ill. This prompted me to read reviews, 1 week prior to going another customer who was vegetarian recieved a vegetarian dish with fish sauce. FISH SAUCE IS NOT VEGETARIAN. Be respectful and responsible to your customers as fish is ANIMAL BYPRODUCT. This will make true vegetarians and vegans SICK. Will never be returning as the owners can not adhere to the basic dietary restriction standards. Awful.

Been ordering food from this place for a while and thought it was great. Dined in for the first time and thought I’d try some new dishes. Ordered a vegetarian sweet and sour tofu soup and was told this is vegan, could smell the fish sauce when it arrived. I asked the waiter if there was fish saw in the dish and he said no and he would go ask the kitchen. Turns out they use fish stock in the soup. When I explained that this is not vegan nor vegetarian, the waiter tried to explain how fish is vegetarian… They we’re not apologetic at all. Will not be going back.

It is, without a doubt, the best restaurant on the Viet Mile. Always great food, lovely atmosphere, and very reasonably priced.

Didn't realise there was more than one restaurant so originally wrote on the wrong one lol Best noodles I've had in my life, I couldn't shut up about how good they were and had to buy a second portion to take home with me because I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

Was soo good I felt like I left hackney for a bit!
