We had a table of ten booked for Easter Sunday lunch only to find out (from a friend) the evening before that they are closed due to a power cut. I understand that these things happen and it is beyond their control but they didn't even ring to inform us directly. We have family that have travelled 3 hours from Scotland for this. Absolutely terrible customer service!

The place desperately needs someone to organise it - the Sunday lunch itself was ok but the organisation was comically bad. Arrived to be told two first options of drinks weren’t on and then no beef was available which seemed odd at was only 1.30 and very few people in restaurant but we found alternatives. Cutlery was greasy and needed to be wiped before using. One starter didn’t arrive , no one came to check if all was ok til others had finished - when I mentioned missing starter the waitress said she had spoken to the manager and they would take it off the bill ! I think I was meant to be grateful to not be charged ? The main elements of the Sunday lunch were really tasty - really good roast potatoes but the veg looked like it had all been boiled together and the red cabbage and red carrots had just made everything look grey and unappetising. Portion of pigs in blankets looked like they’d not seen an oven - brought them back and airfried for the dog. No salt on a few of the tables but managed to track some down. Another table started to complain and then got up to leave without any food and another table appeared to have been charged incorrectly which provided entertainment while waiting for puds to arrive. We waited a fair while for puds and suddenly waitress presented us with bill as apparently we had said we didn’t want desserts now - said no we hadn’t said anything to anyone and were sat waiting. When she came back she said another member of staff had thought when I asked for bill that meant I hadn’t wanted desserts - again said no we hadn’t asked for bill and no one had come to speak to us at all. Desserts finally arrived and they were lovely - due to the chaos we got a discount in the bill which was appreciated and worked out it covered drinks. It’s a real shame as the lunch itself could set the foundation for a really busy popular Sunday lunch venue with some minor tweaks to veggies and more major tweaks to organisation and service. Our waitress was really canny and we had a few laughs about the experience but wouldn’t return which is a real shame, maybe we might come for a takeaway.

We had previously enjoyed a tasty home cooked Sunday lunch here, so booked again for the following Sunday. On arrival at 3.30 pm we were told that they had been very busy and had 'ran out of lunch' around 2pm. So much for reserving a table ... we were told they didn't have a contact number for us (despite booking in person the previous week & offering our details!). We were not offered any alternative food, nor any real apology. Just a fait accompli and certainly no kind of encouragement or incentive to return another day. Apparently as we had not pre-booked our menu choices (we were never asked to and had assumed Sunday lunch was a pretty standard choice!), they couldn't have reserved any food for us. We were so disappointed and stunned at this appalling lack of service, we simply left.

We visited as a party of 17 for Sunday lunch for a family celebration and were all very disappointed. The food itself was ok, but that's where it ended. The service, organisation and cleanliness of the place really let it down. Taking orders and bringing food took such a long time, drinks orders were all wrong, and they waited until serving to tell one of our group they didn't have what she ordered, so she had to wait even longer for an alternative. As we had waited such a long time, and some of us were due to leave on holiday later that day, we decided not to bother ordering desserts but go back to my house for cake instead. We had pre-booked as a larger group, but were sat on adjacent smaller tables. No big deal - but they had set bills up per table when it came to paying. My people had sat and mingled with family, which meant I had to pay across 3 separate tables, which took a long time to sort. After I had paid for our food and drinks, I left ahead of the group to go organise a cake. My husband was told I had not paid for our drinks in my absence, so he paid for them again! When we checked our receipts, some of those had been ordered and paid for at the bar because they had missed them off the original order - so, in fact, they were paid for 3 times! The whole experience was disappointing at best. The bar area where they sat us felt grubby; the salt cellars were all rusty, table legs were loose, the toilets were smelly with wet floors from leaking plumbing. Staff were slow, and borderline rude. The ordering/paying situation was chaotic. Had we not been heading away on holiday I would have returned and complained, but don't even feel confident anyone would have been bothered/interested. Sadly we won't be returning.

The Fawlty Towers of the North gets one star. Actually that's rather harsh; Basil, Manuel and his at least put some effort into things; the Angler's Arms doesn't even deserve a star. We stayed in room 5, a triple as had a little one with us. Room was above the bar with EXTREAMLY LOUD jukebox booming horrible bassy music until well after 11:30pm. Then paper thin walls meant we had the joys of hearing next door's TV until the early hours one side, and someone coughing the other. After a night in our damp room, my wife was also quite unwell, sneezing and coughing away. Then there's the horrible bathroom, which as others have been saying in reviews for the last 2 years, has a terrible shower, lose toilet seat and no loo roll holder. In true Fawlty spirit, breakfast was an absolute shambles, complete with loud yappy dog, the waiter falling over a step ladder, a 50 minute wait for one luke warm veggie breakfast for my wife, meanwhile shortages of the basics meant I had one piece of toast dry. Of the two other guest groups in the "restaurant" (aka damp dark room with a projector screen sat on the bar), both complained of the delay, one then walking out. We'd left before the other's food arrived; perhaps they're still there waiting now? Of course the hopelessly immature management will no doubt continue arguing that they are right, and all the guests' reviews are wrong. In the interests of balance, I must say the Angler's Arms will give you the biggest smile when you leave safe in the knowledge you're never going to set foot in the establishment again.

, Awful, tatty, scruffy, dangerous, inadequate, badly-equipped, noisy, over-priced, malfunctioning shower, nil hospitality, zero customer service, avoid this place and don’t waste your money. I tried to submit a more detailed review but with no help from Tripadvisor as to how it failed the parameters I am now submitting this short version. We booked two nights but left after one. The shower falling down on my head was the last straw. And don’t get me started on the manager!

Staying in area for a few days, whilst my daughter looks for a property to buy, decided to treat ourselves and have dinner out. First impression, dull drab atmosphere. Directed to tables in room where 2 young lads were playing pool. Went through a door marked restaurant, empty, no diners. Went back into pool room. We had a small dog with us, no signs saying dog friendly, had to ask. We were given treats for our dog, nice touch. We ordered drinks, for myself, wife and daughter, took a while for them to arrive. We’d viewed the menu and knew what to order, but then a couple arrived after us, and their order was taken first. Considering we were the only ones in dining, didn’t go down too well. Ordered Scampi, Hunters Chicken Burger and Steak Pie. Took a while to deliver food, and after the table who came in after us. Food was good, hot and tasty. Had a pint of John Smiths, cold and refreshing. Overal impression and layout of the place, along with the fact it was empty of customers at 7pm put us off going back again. This pub is also a B&B, didn’t see the accommodation side, so can’t comment good or bad, but the restaurant side needs a visit from the Hotel Inspector to kick it into shape. Gave 3 stars on the basis the food was good.

Terrible service. Waited 1hr for our drinks to arrive at our table. Waited 1hr 20 mins for two plates of scampi and the veg from mine and my partners Sunday dinners to arrive??? No Sundays dinners though? Sunday lunch comes out, one of them is the wrong dinner ..... So they take BOTH back to the kitchen?? Were then told they'll fix it straight away and won't be long. 20 minutes passes our veg is stone cold, kids have all finishes their meals..still waiting. Asked again how long our dinners would be. "Just playing them up now" was the response. Waited another 10 minutes after this to get out dinners. Had to ask for veg to be microwaved as was cold by this point. The meal overall wasn't bad! Certainly wasn't worth waiting 1hr 45 mins though. Yorkshire pudding was so hard/stale it literally crumbled to dust when I cut into it. Waitress didn't offer any apology or anything when I went to pay the bill. Still requested the full price of bill. I requested a discount on the bill at which point the chef/manager came out from the back and knocked 25% off my bill and explained the were having teething issues with new boh & foh staff. While I sympathise with this there was a clear breakdown in communication from the chefs telling the front of house what the situation was and them relaying that to customers. By "breakdown" I mean none existent. Foh literally just weren't telling us anything. What is the point in the chefs telling the waitresses if they're not passing that information on?! Unfortunately this is the THIRD time now we've had a similar experience here since lockdown and I think this was the straw that broke the camels back for us. I've never had any real complaints regarding the food, it's actually really good! But the service is consistently slow and poor. The pub wasn't even busy, it was 2-4pm! Unfortunately I very much doubt we'll ever be back which is a shame because it's our local.

We were staying in holiday nearby and in our "what to do & where to go" book in our cottage it recommended the Anglers Arms. And boy we were happy they did. We came to the anglers to sit outside and have a meal as we aren’t too keen of eating in restaurants at the moment because of Covid. We sat down and a lady came to take our order. We asked to order to sausage rolls for a starter to be told that she hadn’t finished making them yet, when I asked how long they would be she said she hadn’t even started them because people started coming in, the pub only opened at 12 and it wasn’t long after that when we arrived. Surely they should have been prepared in the morning for people coming in for lunch? But fair enough we picked something else. My husband was the only one having a starter which took quite a long time to come out, we’d waited about half an hour. Luckily when it did come it was really tasty, still should not have took half an hour. We then waited for our mains, which took even longer. After waiting another half an hour, my husband went in to ask where our food was as we were starting to get really hungry, we also had a child with us, so she was starting to get bored. The lady inside checked in the kitchen and said another 5 minutes, so we decided to wait. Meanwhile it started to rain outside and the 5 minutes was up, so we were really fed up, my husband went in to pay for the drinks we had had and the starter and as he did the lady was at the door with our food. As it was raining and we were really hungry we ended up having to sit inside. Yet again the food was delicious, but the wait times are very poor. There were only 2 other tables in as well, not even a full restaurant. We came here at the start of the year with 4 other people and waited ages for our food to be served, but gave them the benefit of the doubt, I no longer think this is a coincidence.

The restaurant was not busy either they had two other tables! We were a large booking of 8 adults 2 toddlers, a baby and a small child! We made our starters easy all picking the same, there should of been no delay after all how long does it take to stick a few halloumi fries on a plate and bring them out! Giving my recent experience I will definitely not be returning, you’d think as they seen we had small children they’d atleast try to get us out at a reasonable time! Food was nothing special my main was over done not surprisingly since they were cooking it for 2 and a half hours! Overall not happy :(

Where to start?! This is the first tripadvisor review I have written and it's because I'd like to save another family the disappointment. I have awarded a star because the 2 members of staff we encountered were wonderful. The guy who made us breakfast on the 1st morning was brilliant it really was a great cooked meal. The girl who was in charge on the Saturday morning and Sunday morning was lovely and genuinely a great person , tried to be accommodating including seeing if she could get a refund for us for the final night. Alas she couldn't. However...We booked for 3 nights. You'd think it was commonly accepted that rooms would be cleaned each day and beds made, towels changed etc if necessary. Well please don't expect this. We were told the cleaner comes in at 11 on Saturday. So, luckily, we asked her if she could possibly clean our room and leave us with towels as we hadn't been left any for our first 2 days. Coffee tray wasn't refilled, lights didn't work neither the bedside lamp or the shaving light. The room had a damp smell to it and cobwebs in corners so maybe it has been closed during lockdown. The breakfast on the second morning was just nothing like the first: run out of bread, sausages and mushrooms. We were in a B&B how can you run out of these things ? The breakfast lounge still had pint glasses on the tables half full from the night before. These are basics in hospitality. Clear glasses and wipe the tables. The refund would have been nice for the final night but apparently Booking.com charge a large commission so we were told by 'The Boss' that we couldn't have one. Fair enough I suppose. In summary:If everywhere is booked up and you need a cheap place to get your head down then great. Stop over. If you want to have a memorable stay for all the right reasons, avoid. The staff were genuinely lovely people but I have to say massively incompetent.

Staying at The Anglers Arms for a few days. After a long drive, we decided to relax and eat here. Best choice we made! Food is fantastic! Very good portion sizes too, especially for the prices. Lovely laid back and friendly environment to go with it. If I lived close by, I would certainly make it a regular stop

Such a lovely warm, welcoming family run establishment. It is so refreshing to experience such a place that absolutely has the interest of the customer and community at heart. Although we weren’t there to eat, the menu looked outstanding. We will definitely be returning both as a couple and with the family. Very impressed.

Decided to try Anglers arms for a traditional pub meal. Very surprised when we got served food was absolutely brilliant service and friendliness out of this world. To top the experience off we ended up having their sticky toffee pudding, absolutely to die for. Will definitely recommend this restaurant and will for sure return again in the nearest future.

Had lunch with a friend. Staff were friendly and put extra heater into restaurant as it just opened and although heating was on it was still a bit cold, not many places would have been as thoughtful. We both choose burger in brioch bun with homemade chips and coleslaw. It was cooked to order and well worth the wait, it was tasty. Would definitely recommend and we will visit again.

My partner and I stayed here while in the Bedlington area for a family party. We were very happy with our room, which was immaculate and had plenty of tea and coffee making supplies, as well as a bottle of water each in the rooms, which was a nice touch. There is ample free parking and the breakfast was top notch. It was cooked from scratch and we had a big plate which included cumberland sausage and lovely bacon. I believe all of their products are locally sourced and you can really taste the quality of the breakfast products.Staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again if we need an overnight stay in the area

Visited here with my partner for Sunday lunch after it's recent reopening with new owners. As we walked in it felt like it had just been empty for weeks and the new owners have come along and nothing has been updated, even the old plastic flowers were still there. The whole place looks jaded, grimy and gloomy, poor lighting, no ambience, nothing feels really welcoming. There was a sense of panic about the Ace, poorly trained staff, dirty plates left on tables, dirty glasses littering the bar area, food not good either unfortunately, the beef had been slow cooked within an inch of its life, awful texture and certainly not a Sunday roast, veg was floating in water, roast potatoes greasy and barely warm.It really needs a makeover and needs to be more inviting.......it's really poor and unfortunately I will not return unless it massively improves.

I chose to visit based on the pictures as it seemed like it would be the only place in the vicinity that had decent gastropub food, but things have obviously changed as although the pub was clean and service was fine, the food was just bog standard average. £9.50 for frozen scampi and completely tasteless skinny fries is just not good enough.

Really good Sunday lunch - all homemade! All meats were cooked perfect and just melted in mouth. Really flavourful gravy and well cooked vegetables. Huge plate full and good variety or accompaniments. Really good value for money!!! Does not disappoint for a good roast dinner...

I needed to book a 2 night stay for business near Wansbeck at very short notice. The default choice was for a Premier Inn, but none were available. The Anglers Arms in nearby Choppington was offered as an alternative, which I accepted warily. I needn't have worried - the Anglers Arms is a gem of a place, with friendly welcoming pub atmosphere and great food at reasonable cost. I am likely to need to return for further short stays - and next time the Anglers Arms will be my first choice.

Lugar recomendable.

Sunday lunch. Can't fault the service or the amount of food you get for your money, but I was disappointed with the "roast" chicken Sunday dinner. Instead of some nice slices of roast chicken from a whole bird I was given two chicken breasts - I suspect grilled not roasted - clearly bought as separate pieces of meat.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.
