Angels Share in Edinburgh, City of

Went here on a Friday evening, large group of us. Had a great time! Beautiful place, fabulous cocktails and a lively atmosphere. Live music too! The singer was very talented!

Where do I even begin? From the moment we walked through the doors, The Angel’s Share exuded charm, quality, and that perfect blend of modern luxury with classic Edinburgh vibes. My wife and I stayed in the Gerard Butler room, and let me tell you, having a giant portrait of the man himself looking down at you is quite the experience! The little touches in the room made all the difference – a proper slow brew coffee setup, Highland Spring water in glass bottles, and even a couple of Tunnock’s Tea Cakes. It’s these thoughtful details that really set this place apart. The room itself was immaculate – spacious, with a big, incredibly comfortable bed, luxury linens, and a Dyson AC/heater fan to keep things cozy or cool. The bathroom was pristine, with high-end amenities, and the views onto Charlotte Square were just the icing on the cake. The location? Absolutely spot on – right in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, close to everything yet tucked away enough for a peaceful retreat. We’re big on experiencing the city, so I took my wife on a literary pub crawl that started with Mather’s Bar, a favorite haunt of Irvine Welsh, before strolling down to the iconic Oxford Bar, made famous by Ian Rankin and his Inspector Rebus novels. Both are just a short walk from the hotel – the perfect way to soak in Edinburgh’s literary heritage. The service at Angel’s Share was flawless from start to finish. We arrived early, but the team went out of their way to store our bags safely and had them waiting for us in our room when we returned. That’s old-school, caring service you don’t often see these days. Laid-back, friendly, and genuinely accommodating – nothing was too much trouble. I travel a lot and have stayed in countless hotels, but The Angel’s Share is officially one of my all-time favorites. Everything about our stay was memorable – from the stunning room to the impeccable service and unbeatable location. If you’re coming to Edinburgh, do yourself a favour and stay here. You won’t regret it. 10/10. Absolutely love it. Highly recommend! 🥂

We just loved this place, excellent service, cosy surroundings, and food was amazing, haggis neeps and tatties as a sharing platter, with an added extras, which was a nice twist. Really good selection of whisky, I've a few passions in life whisky and Burns, so this was a brilliant night for us, my wife loved her Ye Fond Kiss cocktail 🍸 there was a 10% service charge, which was about right for the service. Will definitely be back here, there was live music as well which was an added bonus.

We booked a Christmas Staff party 20 people at the bar and had a 2 x table reserved - on arrival there was only 1 booth available and then transpired we had the booking for 45 mins only - it took 45 mins to order a drink the staff we stretched thin and the manager was particularly rude so we left after finishing our drinks. I think the events team really need to consider the party season spacing. Truly would never frequent again - 1 star for the the space being clean and beautifully decorated that's all.

We appreciated Live Music on the day we arrived very much. It was a good start of our short citytrip. Well organized hotel. For European tourists maybe a little to expensive.

We booked here for the sharing roast after seeing it on Tiktok and it did not disappoint. We were seated straight away. We went around Christmas time and Angel’s Share really got us into the Christmassy mood with its decor. There was live music which was relaxing and enjoyable to listen to without being too loud. The service was perfect, everyone was very polite and service was quick. It was relatively far from the old town about a 15-20 minute walk but worth it for the food!

Service incredibly slow and cocktails very poor and over priced. Last time we visited in April was excellent which is a shame.

Really nice hotel, located right on the West End of Princes Street. The staff were super nice and accommodating, even letting me leave my luggage for a few hours on the tail end of my stay, after checking out. Friendly check in, friendly check out, so huge props for that. I stayed in Sharlene Spiteri (this comment will make more sense when you see the pictures), and it was a small but comfy room. I will say the wind was absolutely battering the bathroom window, so if you're sensitive to sound, that could be an issue, but I was largely fine. Would definitely stay here again.

Good service. Room we had (Gavin and Scott Hastings) was dusty, and rather dim lit. The service was very good and all the staff very friendly. Ideally located in the centre of the city for tourist attractions.

Wonderful hotel right next to Johnny Walker. Staff were so helpful shipping important items to me when I forgot them in my room. Looking forward to going back!

Brilliant hotel with great staff and superb kitchen. I have many allergies and the chefs had beautifully prepared meals for me each day. Couldn't not recommend this place highly enough.

Beautiful hotel in the center of Edinburgh. very strategic location, welcoming and very friendly staff. breakfast is à la carte and not buffet, but of great quality.!! The rooms are just the right size in my opinion and clean. The hotel also has a pub/club area where you can have a drink in the evening with many types of gin and scotch… it was a really nice overnight stay, shame only for 2 nights... I highly recommend, I will be back.!!

Tuvimos la suerte de tener un vale que nos dio un pariente, y estábamos realmente deseando nuestra visita. Reservamos y recibimos confirmación, y nos dijeron que nos encontraríamos con nuestra anfitriona del restaurante. Esto no sucedió como no - nadie estaba en la estación de bienvenida. Sin embargo, logramos encontrar una mesa con nuestra reserva en ella, situada en la zona de bares públicos lejos del hotel. La zona del bar era muy ruidoso, y no es lo que anticipamos, pero hicimos nuestros pedidos. La comida era excelente, pero varios clientes del bar habían estado allí cuando llegamos, y continuaron embebiendo en el bar mientras estábamos allí durante 2 horas. (Comenzando con cervezas y luego pasando a whiskys de malta). Tal vez debido a su consumo de alcohol, su lenguaje se volvió muy trabajador, a pesar de que el personal del bar era muy cercano al grupo, y no parecía hacerles ninguna amonestación, ni ninguna solicitud para limitar sus insultos. Los dos empleados en servicio eran bastante jóvenes y probablemente no se sintieron preparados para desafiar al grupo ruidoso. Esto tuvo un efecto negativo en nuestro disfrute de la cena. Como se dijo, la comida era excelente y servida eficientemente, pero prepárese para una comida en básicamente un bar, no un comedor separado, si decide ir allí como no residente.

Una estancia agradable para 4 noches, aunque nuestra habitación 104 estaba bien. Una habitación bastante pequeña y yo podíamos casi alcanzar el tirón de la cortina para la ventana alta donde nos daban directamente a la cama desde otras ventanas. No hay espacio para una mesita de noche en un lado que era incómodo para las bebidas. Afortunadamente había un refrigerador de aire eficaz, una televisión de buen tamaño, y un montón de espacio en el armario. El baño era grande. Los desayunos muy agradables se hicieron por encargo y muy buenos, hubiera preferido el aguacate a las espinacas según su menú original fuera (pero las espinacas son una opción más barata). Mi marido disfrutó mucho del pudín negro y los huevos revueltos eran deliciosos - definitivamente no buffet estilo huevo! Una cena de bacalao con corteza de hierbas era encantadora, agradable y espesa pero perfectamente cocinada y sabrosa. La zona del bar es muy atractiva, con un ambiente encantador y disfruté de un cóctel cosmopolita o dos. Las fotos de be&W de celebridades escocesas adornan las habitaciones, pero David Tennant estará decepcionado!

Visitamos aquí para compartir el asado del domingo después de ver un carrete en instagram. Hermoso edificio con un buen ambiente frío, había un cantante también, que era agradable. El asado del domingo no decepcionó, todo se cocinó bien, más que suficiente para dos personas, así que una gran relación calidad-precio en £ 40. Lamentablemente, no tuvimos espacio para el postre, así que no puedo comentar sobre eso, pero el 100% volvería 😊

Vine a tomar una copa la semana pasada, y terminé quedándome con la música viva. El barman (Kyle creo que se llamaba) era excelente y proporcionó recomendaciones de whisky excepcionales. Recomiendo encarecidamente venir aquí.

Absolutely horrible service in the restaurant for weekday lunch. Bartender was great, but waitress was rude and acted like we were putting her out and bothering her by eating there. No wonder the place was empty.

The room is a bit small but sufficient. The bathroom is mini. The staff is super nice! We liked it.

If you come from Charlotte Square the location is nice, passing through Hope Street, the row of trash cans and the garage entrances are less inviting. The atmosphere is pleasantly old-fashioned, curiously they present a list of wines and spirits, and while they serve a large number of beers, the list of these is only communicated orally... We left ourselves tempted by "address to a haggis", it was excellent as was the accompaniment (mustard seed puree, turnip and carrot casserole and whiskey sauce). The only downside: a more efficient knife would be welcome to cut into the skin (artificial unfortunately) of the haggis served.

Minor hiccup in staff knowing if you can keep your luggage there over a day if going on a tour, but otherwise great service! The rooms were lovely and well appointed, phenomenal location and great service overall. Plus their breakfast was amazing and quite affordable. Overall, highly recommend! So much so, we are returning to the hotel after our whiskey tour for another night!

A 400$ bottle of whisky in an unmarked box got stolen most likely in our room. It's shocking cause they open our luggage. The elevator was not working so they took our luggage up to our room, we can see the bottle on the hotel camera going up. We had to take a flight home so could not get this resolved before we left, the manager acknowledged the problem and told us they would sort this out, when we got home, they denied the whole thing. Do not trust their management, they are not truthful and do not leave anything valuable in your room if you stay there and remember they check the content of your luggage.

Beware the sneaky service charge when ordering at the bar (and carrying back your own drinks!) 5% on top and only a tiny sign to warn you - the staff say nothing. 5% of this charge goes to the business and 95% to the staff. I won’t be back…if I want to tip the bar staff then it’s my choice and all the money should go to them. Sneaky rip off aimed at tourists who don’t know the tip culture is different in the UK.

Charming hotel with a great location in Edinburgh. All of the city's sights can be easily reached on foot. The rooms are small but very lovingly furnished. The service is excellent, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a great bar with a very good selection of whiskey. Highly recommended!

Not a fan of automatic tipping when only buying drinks

A group of 7 enjoyed lovely food, very good wine & beer on a Saturday evening in July. The service was excellent & although it was a pre ordered set meal we were not rushed. Good value for this part of Edinburgh.

Lovely hotel 3rd time staying. Love the location ideal near central Edingburgh and all the bars on George Street. Lovely food and cocktails too and the decor is great ( Scottish theme) . It was dearer than previous stays and we felt there was nothing extra for the change in price but could be rising costs of living. We enjoy seeing which room we are given. (Emeli Sande) this time.

A very beautiful bar in a very lovely and accessible location in the Edinburgh city. I visited this bar for a networking event and I absolutely loved their customer service and arrangements. The beef burger sliders were cooked to perfection and there were many other starters like spring roll, mushroom aranchini and salmon on crackers. The bar staff were very lovely and one of them also made me a non-alcoholic drink which was absolutely tasty. (P.S this drink is not on their menu) The cocktail of the month was absolutely delicious called “Coconut and Raspberry Daiquiri” Their Espresso Martinis were also made to perfection with a elegant froth on the top 🍸

Pub anglais classe Bruyant mais comme les pub Des bières des whisky Et On y mange très bien. Entrées excellentes Plats très bons . Éviter le fish and ships même si il est très bon. Les autres plats sont très bons

Great afternoon at angels share and the service from the staff as always was brilliant. Tattiannia was our server and was absolutely brilliant on our wine recommendations and thank you.

We waited 35 minutes and were not waited on, but walked by several times......select somewhere else.

Staff were so helpful and friendly, will definitely use Angels Share again.

What can I say other than 5 stars ! Friendly and efficient staff . Rooms well kitted out , Dyson fans and awesome pour over Gordon street coffee. Beds large and comfortable. Excellent fair priced food. (breakfast included was a must ! ) Nice range of cocktails 🍸 and live music. Couldn’t really get more central Edinburgh. Will be back again and tell my friends . Well done 👏🏻 5 stars 🌟

Bobbed in for a couple of cocktails and this pub smelt great...they were doing Sunday dinner! Shame I'd already eaten otherwise I'd have had some! The decor was very luxurious 😊

Arrived for our table on time was shown to our table by a a lovely member of staff explained about choices drinks ordered then had a lovely chat with the supervisor and really enjoyed both conversation and the food was outstanding will definitely be back as forgot how good the food and ambience of the place was thank you staff were really friendly and helpful

Fabulous location, friendly staff and amazing restaurant on site with entertainment on the weekend. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Definitely recommend this boutique hotel.

Visited the Angels Shafe and descended into the subterranian Devil's Cut bar, after a busy rally for women's rights after having being shouted at constantly by malicious misogynists. It was crowded but we used the dance floor as extra space to socialise & decompress after a hectic time. The bar was not well-run with two bar staff pretty bad at turn taking and judging who had been at the bar the longest, however it was nice to have not seen the violent misogyny of Edinburgh replicated at the bar as violence against women is sadly quite acceptable to the local police these days.

Great place for weekend live music, but larger, larger, larger, larger on tap 🙄PLEASE GET SOME NICE BEERR - nice NEIPA would make things so much better , who orders your beer ? Sack them

Had a great afternoon. Staff were lovely.

Hotel room was very nice and the staff where friendly and polite... breakfast for £15 was way overpriced for what little you get.... Orange Juice was disgusting obviously some rubbish out of a carton. A small half piece of bacon and scrambled egg square sausage and black pudding small portion of beans of which I had to pull a long hair out of my mouth not seeing this in the mouthful of beans... a little butter for toast that covered half the plate and it was not spreadable because it was fluid when opened... a potato scone that no one bothered to put in a frying pan. I paid £165 for a good night at Angel Share and was hoping to leave happy, rested and content after a good weekend breakfast... but because of that experience I left depressed and still hungry and knowing I would not order breakfast or food in there again.

Organised a private family birthday party at Angel's Share - it couldn't have gone more smoothly. The manager, Dori, was an absolute delight to deal with; all requests and queries were responded to promptly in an obliging, friendly manner. The venue itself is lovely; the Clubroom where we were situated was tucked out of the way of the main bar but still connected enough we didn't feel totally alone. All the staff were super friendly and helpful (especially Helena!), and throughout the night all the guests felt welcome and well-looked after. The food is of excellent quality as well. Would 100% recommend Angel's Share for private events!

DELICIOUS! We enjoyed a really quite exquisite Steak & Buckfast pie with thick cut chips and savoy cabbage. Wonderfully tender beef that melted in their mouth, perfect puff pastry, tasty gravy, great chips and a VERY nice Shiraz! Will definitely be back!

For many years I’ve said that Angels is the best place to go for food and their steak pie couldn’t be beaten. However, after having food twice in a couple of months something has changed. The service isn’t the same and the standard of food has dropped. This is with all food that me and my family ordered. Regrettably it looks like I’ll have to admit that Angels is no longer the best and they no longer hold the title of best steak pie.

Went here for my husband's birthday. The food was excellent and the service 1st class.

Afternoon tea on a gift voucher £35 for two Tea came fairly quickly but by the time the main event arrived tea was finished - far too long await and charged for replenishing tea At payment voucher was only for one and insisted I pay the remainder.... After visit follow up agreed was a mix up with vouchers and refunded the one I paid...... Quality and quantity of tea was not value for money at all

On our last couple of visits we have found it really busy and having to wait a long time to be served drinks at the beginning , food is good but one of our meals came out wrong and was sent back twice which was disappointing,

I tried to leave a review directly on your website but wasn't able to comment. I wouldn't normally leave a public review but the staff weren't interested on the night and the option to comment directly wasn't available. I booked a table for 6pm on a Sunday night. The online booking form asked which menu I would like to choose from and I chose a la carte. I then dutifully gave my bank details in case we didn't show. It took 15 minutes for us to be shown our table. No mention that we could only have the roast. Took an hour to receive the roast, which was cold and the server forgot our sides. Had to pay at the bar after failing to hail a server for half an hour. Won't be going back and wouldn't recommend but I reckon that won't matter as tourists will always visit.

Enjoyed a delicious meal, with the exception of the starters while dining with my husband and daughter. The starters, all three, were not satisfactory and not in keeping with the quality and presentation of the rest of the meal. We all deemed then ok but not deserving of the cost. The main meal and desserts were delicious. When we arrived there was sufficient staff and service was commendable however during our main meal the numbers dropped considerably and we waited for ages and eventually I had to go looking for a staff member to take our orders for dessert. The same situation applied when looking for tea and coffee. That aside e will most definitely be back as overall it was a lovely experience.

We ,a party of 4 found the whole experience rather disappointing.The wine was grossly overpriced,and the food rather bland. We chose from the a la carte menu and would never do so again.

Booked lunch for 5 people last Sunday the food was excellent,service a little slow but that's not surprising considering just how busy it was.It continues to impress me that over the many years which I have booked the restaurant I have rarely had cause to complain about the food or value for money that it represents.

Disappointed by deceptive menu. Menu on website and in restaurant offers a 2 for 1 deal on certain main meals. Dined as a family and made meal choices influenced by the deal only to be advised when we queried the bill that the deal wasn’t on in December. This is not mentioned on the website when booking or on the menu at the table, nor highlighted by the server when ordering even though we openly discussed the deal. When we queried this we were told there was a notice and indeed there is a small notice on the outside door to the restaurant which we didn’t see as the door was opened outwards when we entered. Lack of transparency is very disappointing and misleading.

Some important feedback for the hotel: The cleaning staff were pretty unprofessional. Leaving full bin bags, laundry and dirty mop buckets in the corridors most of the day. Then sat on their phones in the corridor. Feel like our experience would be better if they had a cleaning cart and a staff room for example. Then we had one night with the fire alarm going off and panicked direction given from the staff. Then unfortunately for us both nights we stayed the lobby venue was booked for events. First there was a bouncer on the door reluctant to let us in. Then we had to barge through a large crowd of drunk people to get to our room. Not exactly ideal and worth knowing before you book. Reception staff were excellent though! They were so lovely and welcoming.

I was there with my girlfriend on the 29/11/23 and got seated straight away placed our drinks order and then that’s where it started our server asked us what we wanted and we asked about the soup asked for two of them and then she left without asking about our mains and then it took 15 minutes to get our food and then a further 20 minutes to get our drinks people who had arrived after us had been served before us it was disgusting how long everything took and when it came to the check we asked to use card and all of the staff stood talking at the bar so we got that annoyed that we just went up because we were sick of the wait I’ll probably never be back

I had an awesome time there! I also got to know the person with a green hat, his name was venti, its a cool name!🥰 And the bartender was a bit cold, he was boring.

Great hotel and in a great location in the heart of edinburgh at the west end. The hotel has a boutique feel to it, rooms named after noteable Scottish luminaries. The rooms themself are cosy and furnished to a high standard although our rooms was a tad on the small side and it was difficult to access power point for iron. My wife lamented the lack of a mirror close to a socket to allow her to do her hair! The staff were first rate, and very friendly and attentive, front of house and bar, all gave good service. The only downside to our visit was that because the hotel has a bar/lounge attached which is very popular there are far more people visitng the bar than there are residents living there which meant it was literally impossible to get a seat or table in the bar or the small reception area of the hotel. All tables seemed to be reserved, and most of them to non hotel residents. The bar is absolutely rammed at the weekend, so its not a given you will get served quickly as a resident. This meant that with a party of 10, we generally had to go out to the pubs nearly to get somewhere we could sit as a group to enjoy a drink etc. That said, it was a very enjoyable stay in a nice well located hotel which came at a very reasonable cost. I would definetly stay again. taking all of the above i rate it a high 4 verging on a 5.

Had a great lunch always first class

Booked a table for 3 here. In the beginning everything seemed ok, one of our party arrived late due to transportation problems. Food order taken at 18.30 and at 19.15 we asked if there was a problem with the food order. We were told that the kitchen was "very busy", yet only 2 other people were eating. Everyone else had drinks. One plate of food arrived shirtly afterwards so our friend started her meal, the other meal, a haggis special dish for 2 arrived slightly later. The mash potatoes were cold so we sent it back. We'd also ordered another bottle of wine which didn't appear until we approached the bar area. Our haggis special and wine arrived. The real downside was that at no time when we booked were we told that live music was on that night, and right next to our table!!! We'd booked this place as we'd done in the past, for a good " chatty catch up". There was nothing on the webpage advertising live music either. Management dealt with our "displeasure" very fairly but do think customers should be advised about live music in advance and also about the fact that ordering the haggis special dish means a 30min wait. Sadly won't return.

Great location in the centre of Edinburgh! Everything within walking distance, plenty of restaurants and bars surrounding. Hotel was gorgeously decorated and clean. The bed was sooo comfy! Staff were amazing, even taking out bags that we'd dropped off before check in to our room when it was ready. Would highly recommend and would love to come back!

My partner, Brian, and I stayed here in early August. We were in Edinburgh just one night. I wish we'd stayed longer! Well, we are definitely going back soon. Anyway, this is one of the few places we stayed in, in all of the UK that understands what a king sized bed is. So many hotels booked us a king sized bed only for us to find out they were queen sized when we got there. My partner is 6 feet 5 inches and we need room to sleep comfortably. That being said, it was also one of the most (if not the most) comfortable beds we slept in on our 16 day UK trip. The room was modern, tidy, and clean as well. The front desk guy that checked us in, I think his name was Jamie (?), was really friendly and extremely helpful. He even recommended several places to see in the area and, was a great source of information of all things Edinburgh. My only complaint is having to park in a garage that was a good walk from the hotel. However, in the UK, this seems to be the case most places we stayed. We Americans are spoiled in that most of our hotels have their own parking lots. 😄 On our next trip to Edinburgh we will probably return to Angel's Share as it is definitely a wonderful and comfortable hotel, just a short distance from most of the sights. Have been on a number of occasions and thoroughly enjoyed dining.on this occasion didn’t enjoy the steak pie,it was dry and wasn’t piping hot 😢

Stayed twice and was about to stay again but had to cancel due to childcare. No compassion shown and zero refund. Even premier inn would give some slack for returning guests. Havent even responded to my email yet after 3 days. Edit: Although they have replied they still dont acknowledge the lack of communication.

The good: location is central to the tram and bus and walkable to many nearby shopping and sites. Rooms were clean. The bad: the music from a nearby club/the restaurant at the hotel was so loud in my room, it was as if I was at the club. I had noise cancelling AirPods, which saved me although those alone I still could hear the music. I had to have it on noise canceling and have white noise at full blast from my music app. The music lasted until late in the night on a Friday and Saturday when I stayed for those two nights. There weren’t any other rooms available or provided for me. I recommend for anyone booking here to ask for a room away from the club and music, a quiet room.

Drink selection was plentiful, prices were very reasonable. However service much to be desired. Waited a good 15 minutes before we where served. However for a quick stop I would still recommend this bar for a drink

Very stylish bar for quality cocktails and drinks, good service and comfortable areas to sit. Not too pricey for surroundings and location

Fantastic food, we were a party of 9 and everything, including the service was fabulous.

C'est un espace de restauration enchanteur où l'on peut savourer quelques spécialités écossaises avec un service au top. Notre serveur habituel, Christos est au petit soins avec ses clients, toujours prêt à vous conseiller sur le choix des plats, il aime aussi vous parler de son pays ( l'Écosse bien sûr !) et vous conseiller pour découvrir au mieux cette magnifique région ! Excellent venue for a large party

we had a lovely meal at Angels, the food was excellent, and service even better, everything from the front desk to being thanked for eating there at the end of our night, would highly recommend this establishment.👏👏

Great hotel, very clean and centrally located. Great bar area and reception area. I loved returning for a drink at the end of the night to sit in front of the fire. The room had everything we needed and it was spotless and well maintained. We slept very well on all three nights with no disruptions, which is unusual for us. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We would certainly return. I really liked that staff had taken our luggage up to our room once our room was ready, after we arrived early and they had stored our luggage for us.

Staff were excellent, attentive and very welcoming. We arrived 30 mins early for dinner but no problem, we were seated and served our drinks straight away. Can't fault the food tho I found the sundae's a little expensive for what you receive but other than that no complaints and would definitely return again

Pub très joli, bien placé. De superbes lustres qui ont attiré notre attention. La nourriture n’est ni excellente ni mauvaise mais je n’ai pas franchement été conquise par mon plat et mon dessert.

Service was great. Food on the other hand was poor. Dry...bland no flavour. Had to send back...so did the table next to me. Massimos is Baillieston is better.

Had afternoon tea for 7 - attentive staff and the portions were really generous. The bar area was spotless and we had plenty of space for our group

Room was modern ,clean and had all the facilities you would expect. The only issue was the lack of pressure in the shower. The staff where very helpful and welcoming. We also enjoyed a lovely evening meal and the breakfast was excellent. Would recommend and would have no hesitation in recommending Angels.

Fantastic hotel with excellent, impeccable service. Beautiful decor everywhere. Can't wait to return.
