Called at 12.05pm today with less than a dozen people in the establishment. We were informed by a member of staff that they would bring a menu to us within 20 minutes. A hour later, despite asking twice at the bar, we were still not provided with a menu. The place was pretty empty and I can see why with service like this. Without doubt the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant.

Came here for food in the afternoon could not of asked for a better member of staff Laura. I come here often but this is the first time Laura has dealt with me and my partner so polite and chatty made us feel so welcome and was so helpful absolute credit to the angel inn. Thank you

We saw that the Angel was reopening after a refurbishment and new staff and menu on Saturday 12th October. We had a wander down at 8pm. It was busy and lively with a live band on in the bar area. We were served drinks promptly and found a table as we wanted to order food too. The restaurant area is clean, spacious and airy with music playing in the background. The menu is extensive and varied with meals to suit all palettes. The meals we had were served timely and were fresh and hot. Good sized portions and great value for money. The daddy burger is huge! We stayed very late into the night as we enjoyed ourselves so much even after only intending to "go for one". The new managers and friendly, professional and couldn't do enough to make sure everyone was ok. You can see the enthusiasm to make this place work. The bar staff were new too and although busy managed well. Give this place another go if you've been before and found it disappointing. If anything like opening night was it will be worth it.

The evening started badly when it took ages to place our order at the bar. As the barmaids preferring to deal and joke with local drinkers than eaters. Once placed the food arrived within a reason time but the fries were cold and the peas terrible. Complaints were met by shrugged shoulders. However the meat was great. Good steaks at reasonable prices. Also no effort to clear and clean table from finished dinners. It was not busy. A little effort from the staff could turn things round. But that is true for a lot of eating places in the Leeds area. 3 out of 5.

This is the second time I have been. Went with my sons family this time and again the food was lovely, service was very good, polite and the orders were spot on. Can not praise this pub enough for how nice it is. Staff are smiling and polite, win win for me

My husband and I have eaten Sunday lunch here on many occasions. The food is always top notch and the staff are polite and friendly. I would highly recommend Sunday lunch at the Angel.

Myself and my partner came here for a drink and dinner . We waited 15 minutes for a drink when I ordered the drinks a beer and a gin and tonic with a dash of lime I asked for a small drop of lime the young guy behind the bar poured the tiny drop I said I am sorry could I possibly have a small bit more and the guy looked at me like I asked him for his kidney and poured the whole bottle of lime into my drink and then laughed . My partner asked him why did he do that and he said what do you want me to say my hand slipped . I walked away and tried to find a table all the tables were dirty no one cleaned them we decided to leave after 30 mins as I was leaving I brought the drink back to the bar and asked for the manager the guy actually said I'm acting manager what do you want. I said I don't normally complain but I need to talk about what happened to me earlier he cut me off half way through my story and said so what do you want another drink which I declined he then said well if you don't want another drink I can't help you . I told him the reason I wanted to speak to him was it's not right for staff to treat paying customers the way he did he just said I don't know where you want to go with this conversation I was shocked and said don't worry about it and left. I cannot believe staff would act like this. I had food in this place before and it was not too bad but I won't ever go back . Words of wisdom dont ask for a dash of lime because you will end up with gin and a bottle of lime cordial and a bitter taste in your mouth .

Visited yesterday with family, table and high hair dirty, a busy pub, but under staffed, slow service at the bar. Had the roast beef Sunday lunch, good quality beef, but the rest was average, roast potatoes, peas and sprouts, NO mash, poor Yorkshire pud and gravy like water, all served warm, poor show, but good ice creams .

we called in for a meal out of the blue and was pleasantly surprised. We all had a lovely meal. we all chose the steak pie and it was delicious except fot the circle of pastry plonked on top. The chips and veg were delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. I would sugest that the chef changed the thick pastry round( even though there was an angel stuck on top of it) We will definatly visit again and try their fish and chips as the people on the next table said they were great .

We have been here a few times over the years and always had a good meal. Since our last visit, the place has changed hands, bringing in a new menu. There are many positives. Our service was polite, The choice of food was good. Indeed two meals of more than average quality came in a reasonable time. The price was about average for the area. But the owners let themselves down over attention to detail. The curtains in the dining room were not properly hung. The plates on the next table were cleared, but the remnants of the meal were left on the table. Items like this cost nothing to correct but show that people care. The frayed carpet would be a considerable outlay to replace. We have not found a better place in the Ackworth area, but this is starting to look tired.

I don't normally write reviews for pubs that do food but The Angel has made me change my mind. We have dinned here 3 times in the last month and each time we have enjoyed the experience. For a small area this is one of the few options in Ackworth but it is worth a visit. The layout of the pub is not perfect but without an expensive renovation there is little way they could improve. Nor does it have a romantic feel but what it does is serve a good standard of food and team serving and working in the kitchen seem to be making a real effort. Last night we both opted for the Haddock and Chips served with either curry sauce, or mushy or garden peas for £8.95. The meals arrived in a reasonable time with the fish still sizzling. The portions are generous (see the photo) but the quality was excellent; the fish was moist and flaky, batter was tasty and crispy with home cooked chips; made with a floury potato which held plenty of flavour. My only disappointment was I could not finish all the chips! We were so full that we had no room for any other courses or even coffee. Previously we had felt the same about the meals which I think were the cottage pie and the steak and ale pie so 3 out of 3 is a good score for me and if you read my profile you'll see I love my food and would not hold back if there were any failings. I do hope they invest more in the surroundings as if they keep to the standards they are offering now and improve the décor this could be a really great local eatery. I'd recommend this Angel for a good pub meal.

The local bingo club enjoyed a late christmas lunch at The Angel , Wakefield Road, Ackworth. The meals were all excellent and great value for money. Friendly staff took care of all our needs so a big thank you to them. xxxxxxxx

Fuimos allí en un jueves por la noche alrededor de las 6:30 pm. Nunca había estado antes, y quería un bocado para comer con mi hija. Bar y Pub eran un poco cansado y destartaladas pero señaló el menú era grill en llamas, que he probado antes en el canto Chocker en Glasshoughton y disfrutamos así que no hay problema. Sábado, hizo elección y señaló mesa número, fuimos al bar para que le dijeran que no toman pedidos o pagos en el bar, que iban a venir a la mesa y pedido de comida y bebidas, joven bar dijo que venir. Esto es totalmente diferente al otro pub asador flameado y también diferente a los establecimientos similares. El hombre hizo venir a nuestra mesa, sin embargo decidimos hablar a la par de la mesa de al lado para mí primero, menú preparado que asumí que tome nuestra orden al lado. Estaba equivocado, totalmente la bloqueamos conmigo y entramos. Volvió un minuto más tarde, de nuevo nos ignoraron, dijeron que la otra pareja su comida sería "media hora" y estaba a punto de bajar nuevamente cuando me paraba y entres por si él iba a tomar nuestra orden ... Dicho esto, él "en un minuto" y caminamos de nuevo. Una vez más vuelve y finalmente lleva una orden que incluía dos bebidas. Mi hija y yo hacer pequeñas hablar y 5 minutos pases ... luego otros 5 minutos ... no había señal de la dieta básica de 2 x con coca-cola ... mira a la zona de bar, joven tiene Atención reserve y parece ser más allá en varios órdenes de la hasta, no había señal de que las bebidas. Claramente por esta vez hemos tenido suficiente y decidimos dejar. I informa señora detrás de la barra (supongo que algunos tipo de persona a cargo) para cancelar pedido estamos dejando ... respuesta "OK"!!!!!!! No quería mucho, sólo una hamburguesa con patatas fritas con una bebida ... nunca volveremos a poner un pie en allí de nuevo y lo recomendaría a cualquiera que no sé a hacerlo. Mi consejo es ir al canto Chocker, su gente encantadora y buena comida.

Decided to go here for a family meal never again my food was frozen burger that tasted like sawdust the fish n chips were greasy don't go it's a compleat waste of your money.

My girlfriend and I used to visit the Angel for drinks and food at least once a week, but unfortunately we have had to find a new local as the new ownership here has overseen a complete turnaround in atmosphere. A once family friendly pub now has an intimidating atmosphere, and very rude staff. We tried the food here, and after waiting over 45 minutes for our starter we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I had a pint of the hand pulled ale which was obviously on its way out as it was extremely cloudy, and a barman with any interest in ale would tell from the cloudyness that it wasn't fit for sale.We can't even justify eating here because it's cheap, as for the prices you pay you expect quality whereas it is now microwave meals prepared by what I can only guess is a teenager on work experience. If you're looking for a place to have a laid back meal with family or friends, I'd give this place a wide berth.

Having the angel as my local for a number of years we found the service and the food always top quality...since it has changed hands to flaming grill the food and service has gone downhill dramatically. In thee today and only ordered a starter...after waiting 35mins the starter arrived..placed on table by waitress...had to go to bar to ask for cutlery which arrived 10 mins after food arrived by which time food was cold so decided against ordering more food......went to bar to pay bill...had to wait 10 mins because not enough staff to cope with a busy pub.....last visit for me.

We ate here last year and were very disappointed to say the least. After the experience we had, we wouldn't have normally given this pub a second visit, but against our better judgement we decided to give it a second chance. We both ordered the Gammon, and although it was pushing 30 minutes to arrive, it was certainly worth the wait. To be fair, we couldn't fault it whatsoever, it was cooked to perfection & served nice and hot. We were that impressed we decided to eat there again some 5 days later, and once again weren't disappointed. In summary .... A nice quiet friendly pub that serves good quality food at an excellent price, just a little slow coming out, but worth the wait.

Brilliant pub! So many different people in there. It's very typical of a Sam Smith's pub. The drink is cheap and, although many unknown, quite nice.

Came out for Sunday lunch with my partner and 5 year old. Not only was we waiting nearly 1 hour for our lunch it arrived cold and missing items from the plate so had to return it. The wait was unacceptable to say the place was dead at the time. Won't be returning until the place improves.

Came for a family meal waited an hour for starters and a further 30 minutes for the main courses, even when the mains came they were cold and the chips looked like they had been sat for a week, the fish was taste less, onion rings where like rubber. Had to send one meal back because it was freezing and when it came back out it wasn't much better. When we complained we got a half baked appology from the shift manager who looked like he really didn't care. Definately will not be returning any time soon. Absoloutly awful worst meal we have ever had!

My and my family ate here recently and each one of us had a complaint about our food, I had a mixed grill and wanted my steak rare which cost me and extra £1.50, On asking why the friendly girl behind the bar said that they had to use a better cut of steak for rare meals, If that is the case I wouldn't want to try a lesser steak or Wellington as that's what it resembled, other than that the decor was quite nice and as ive already said the staff where nice.

We’ve tried this restaurant on two separate occasions now, the first being one lunch time during the week, where it was reasonably quiet with a friendly sort of atmosphere. We ordered the steak each, which arrived some 30 minutes later. To be fair it was quite enjoyable and fairly priced, so we decided to visit again approximately 3-4 weeks later for lunch again. I ordered the mixed grille which this time was sent out in no time at all. I can only describe this dish as a pile of slightly warm rubbish, consisting of soggy chips & onion rings, the steak, pork, chicken & sausage where the worst I have ever tasted in my life, ..... you really had to see this dish to believe it. There was no way this was a freshly prepared dish, more like something fished out of a food warming unit, and left to go cold. I immediately flagged down a waited and demanded the manager came to see me straight away, the manager did apologised and offered to send it back to be re-heated, .... when I’d finished laughing, I told her to put it straight in the bin and deduct it from my bill. This was one very disappointing meal, and I certainly won’t be eating there again.

- Sticky tables- 2 poor main meals: 'Codfather' fish was greasy, bread stale and chips undercooked. 'Indian Burger' Again very greasy, pakoras were so stale they were inedible and everything was just slapped on the plate with no presentation whatsoever- Poor table service - no 'How was your meal?' especially as we left two half eaten platesWouldn't go back again

There are now three rooftop restaurants in Leeds… That's right. Three… Turn up looking for the declining North and you'll miss it for the Gucci swinging models navigating staircases with their micro skirts. Obviously that's not entirely true. The great cities of the North of England are decidedly less great than they have been in recent years and the less fashionable ones (sorry Hull and Bradford) are genuinely, sadly moribund in places, with threadbare tatters swinging where once a city centre...

I seem to go to this pub every now and then never knowing if it will be a good meal or a bad one. It's very hit and miss. last time was in February 2013 and it was quite nice if a little bit long in the service. the time before i had to practically beg them to cook my egg properly. I asked them when i ordered and it came out with the white running all over the plate looing snotty. I asked them to take it back and do it again and it stil came out undercooked. the 3rd time it came out cremated and my friends had finished eating by then. I would say go with your fingers crossed and don't expect too much.

very good meals for familys , many 2 for 1 and special offers, the burgers are big and at the price they charge good value for money.Friendly atmosphere and good service , can get busy at weekends in bar side if good sport on tv but no tv,s in eating area so usually can get a table.
