Why is it that dog owners find it difficult to understand that all people should like dogs I for one don't want dogs in a pub or restaurant where I am eating Steve j

We visited Tadcaster to visit Sam Smiths pubs. This is by far the nicest of them all in Tadcaster and seeing the horses in the stables is really nice. However out of all his pubs the staff in here were really unfriendly and not welcoming at all. We visited this pub on three occasions during our stay and never once greeted with a smile, in fact even eye contact was a struggle. So although nicely done out, pity about the staff.

Unusually for a country pub , no dogs are allowed here , since the brewery owner , ( it is a Sam Smiths pub) banned them , along with mobile devices , music , and card payments !

If you're visitng the Angel and White Horse, be aware that it might not please everyone. They're aiming here for an authentic old-style pub experience. The management forbids the use of electronics (tho' they'll be lenient if, for example, you're showing your photos to someone or if you're discreet). They have only beers and cider from the adnacent Samuel Smith's brewery. Some of the beers are served from oak casks at room temperature. The menu, posted on the entrance, has no foods listed--tho' you could get a bag of crisps if you wanted. This pub was my main rason for visiting Tadcaster. since I love Samuel Smith's and I wanted to taste the varieties we can't get in the states--and I was not at all disappointed. The Old Brewery Bitter is now the best beer I ever tasted, The brewery keeps several pure white Shire horses that are used to deliver to local pubs (and to lead local parades)--if you're out front between 8 and 8:30 a.m. it's a great sight. If you're looking for predictable pub food and a selection of internationally known brews, there's another pub up the street. Here, it was my pleasure to sip pints of a family-owned traditional brewery dedicated to quality, and to chat with the locals who, like many Brits, are a bit distant by American standards but quite friendly once you broach a subject.

Called in to Tadcaster on the way back from a mini break top side of York. Never been to Tad before but it is an interesting place. Called in at the Angel for refreshments & loved this traditional type pub that is attached to the old Samuel Smith's brewery. Lovely beer at £2 a pint & loved the quiet ambience & little snug rooms with log burning open fires. The beautiful white shire horses that are still used to deliver the beer locally are right there in the courtyard stables. Will certainly be back here when heading home to Doncaster after another visit to York.

A large group will always test any restaurant or pub. In a party of 20 plus, a basic Sunday lunch should be relatively easy. Not in this case some of us got two Yorkshire puddings others got one and some none. Can you believe that a pub restaurant in Yorkshire ran out of what looked like Frozen Yorkshire’s.

Visited this pub during a football away day with SSFC. The manager really pulled out all the stops to make us feel welcome. There were approx 50 odd supporters and the bar staff managed no problem. Also they didn't try to have our eyes out, just excellent beer and good chat with the locals. Thanks again to the manager.

We rang up early evening to check what time they stopped serving food. 8pm they said. So we arrived at 7.30 and ordered drinks. The barman told us that they stopped serving food at 8, so we got a table and had a look at the menu. At 7.40 we were just going to order when the barman came over and told us they had stopped serving, the chef was going home! He apologised but didn't seem especially sorry or to think this was unacceptable! We protested, couldn't believe how unprofessional this was. Two minutes later another member of staff appeared and told us they were still serving. We gave him our order straight away, before they changed their minds again! The food came quite quickly, it was ok and reasonably priced. The beer is good and very cheap. Would visit again, but wouldn't bother eating there.

Fitted out in true Sam Smith's style as befits the brewery tap, with a lot of wood panelling and the usual no music/no TV/not even admitting outside who owns the pub. A comfortable and pleasant place to while away a spare hour or so. But shock horror! The beer has reached the dizzy heights of £2 a pint!

The new manager / landlord has all of the qualities & makes this a particularly enjoyable pub to visit. It's almost part of Sam Smiths brewery & its beer is, needless to say, wonderful with many to choose from; the prices are incredible when used to lesser pubs further south! The fires in each of the bars provide an added bonus. No food was available on our visits but the menu offered some potentially good & inviting choices. The second visit was not as welcoming as the 'boss' was not present & the young fella certainly had neither character nor ability to converse.

Very well furnished pub with friendly staff and good and cheap Sam Smiths beer. We came in out of the rain but stayed longer as we enjoyed the atmosphere as local brewery workers came in after work.

Cerveza barata y fuegos calentamiento en invierno no compensan la mala comida, sabe como es pre-empaquetadas. Bien para niños, pero es un pub en el corazón (gente nada malo con eso), así tomar una copa y probar otro sitio para la comida!

We stop here for a meal while we were staying at Shann House Hotel which was just around the corner. We all had a lovely meal and managed to find something for all which is very difficult for us as our daughter is gluten, wheat and dairy free. My husband tried some of the local beer which is made in the brewery next door. We could see the horses they use from where we were sitting. Yes I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone.

Not much choice of seated eateries in Tadcaster town centre so went in to White Angel. I was very impressed by the clean modern decor in traditional style. The premises was clean and comfortable. The barman was helpful and took our order. The food came quickly and was to a really excellent standard. I had traditional lamb's liver and onions with mash and veg... Not had that for many years and it was well cooked and tasty. My companion had a chicken ham and leek pie with chips and veg and gravy. The pie was the size of a mini bread loaf! Both portions were very generous and priced around £6.75-£7.50. The barman (Licencee?) was very polite and helpful, providing excellent service. Would highly recommend.

My husband and I had travelled over from North Wales to visit friends in Church Fenton and were sightseeing around the local area's. We had looked at pubs which were dog friendly. The Angel & White Horse advertises on its webpage that it is a dog friendly pub and all well behaved dogs are welcome. When we arrived at the pub there was a sign on the door stating no dogs allowed unless guide dogs. My friends husband went inside to ask why the website was displaying as a dog friendly pub and was there a mistake with the guide dog only sign. The bar staff informed him that dogs are allowed in but only in the court yard / garden area and not the pub itself. However on this day the horses which carried the Sam Smiths beers were grazing in the court yards so therefore no dogs were allowed. Quite a disappointment to say the least as this meant we then had to clamber back into the car on a hot day to find an alternative for lunch. Maybe the webpage needs to be updated to reflect this as it is not ALWAYS a dog friendly pub as it states. Unable to rate this any higher as did not have the chance to sample its hospitality.

Travelled up on business with family and popped in here for lunch. The decor is spot on, traditional values and use of horses still was a great factor. The food was amazing, we had fish pie, fish finger sandwich and chicken burger. All were delicious, well presented and good portions. Staff were fun and polite, all in all one of the best pubs I've ate in!

The bar was very quiet on the Monday lunchtime we visited, but Sam Smiths brew great beer and more importantly many of their beers are registered with the vegan society. They only stock their own beers and spirits, and had a vegan curry on the menu which was a lovely surprise. They are also cheaper than most other places. As ever with Sam Smiths, the beer was excellent, I just wish more towns and cities had at least one of their pubs! Please open one in Birmingham!!!

The Angel was refurbished with the intention of becoming SSOB flagship. The quality of Beers and Lagers continue to be good and cheap. Unfortunately, meal service times are very hit and miss. If you are lucky and the kitchen is open then the standard SSOB menu provides reasonable pub grub for a reasonable price.

We had a nice time here with friends whom we met for lunch. We ordered three Caesar salds, one without croutons (wheat intolerance problem) - that was fine, order taken Eventually food arrived; three caesar salads , no croutons.on any of them. "We ordered three Caesar salads, one without croutons, not all three". "Sorry," came rhe reply, "the kitchen doesn't have any croutons"! What sort of kitchen/chef is it which cannot rustle up croutons when they run out? They clearly have a deep frier for all the chips they were producing. And why, when they knew this, did they not come and tell us and ask if we wanted to order something different? Then, when it came time to pay, the c ard machine was out of order - no sorry, no regret, justr "the machine's not working. We had to cross the road to the bank opposite and draw cash to pay: it's just as well we were not relying on our credit cards and had cash available. So what could have been a lovely experience was spoiled by rather lackadaisical service.
