Had a nice home made soup and toasted cheese sandwich, all fresh and tasty. However the atmosphere for us was brilliant, talking to two ladies. 90 and 80 who made us laugh out loud and showed huge sense of mere community! Thank you ladies , you made our day !! Teddy and his humans !

We stopped here for lunch today as a family and we all absolutely loved it. A lovely, traditional tea rooms with lovely, friendly staff. The menu was perfect with lovely lunches and we were all really impressed with the food. The salads were really fresh, delicious homemade soup and perfect portion sizes. We went with our dog and they are very dog friendly. The location is just off the A303 with free on street parking outside. 10/10!

Very simple food, for expensive prices. e.g. Plowman Lunch £13.95 The place is a blast from the past, old fashioned, quaint, and in a back street. Car parking can be found next to the Castle Street Car park, a small walk down a lane to get to it. On the side of the road is also available, but no more than 1 hr parking. I felt like I had walked into something from the 1950s. The place is very clean, with a mixture of simple farmhouse chairs and tables. The owner was a nice chap and his wife was very welcoming and informative of the area. Ideal area for people who are disabled, because the cafe is all flat inside. Ideal for people who are Autistic, with no background music playing, and all-natural light. Plenty to look at, e.g. hand-knitted Tea Cosies. Scones with Jam and cream are delish!

Driving up the A303 and in need of coffee we followed signs to what turned out to be a closed service area, so put "coffee shop" into the search box on the mobile phone and were directed here. The inside part of the cafe was closed due to Covid but the courtyard garden was open at the back and we ordered 2 takeaway coffees. We then asked if they had any sandwiches and the boss made us sandwiches there and then, all fresh and absolutely delicious - I had the best egg sandwich I have ever bought!! We sat in the garden while the sandwiches were being made and it was really lovely. Such a great discovery!

If you want a tense coffee and cake or stressful light lunch this is the place. The food is very good but the service is disorganised and the owner has a most unusual approach to his customers - they appear to be a nuisance. He was very brusque with several unfortunate punters and was clearly frustrated when people didn't fully understand his Covid precautions and procedures. All he had to do was make them clearer before entering, although the front door takes a bit of effort to open and close.Woe betide you if you step out of line and don't make the mistake of trying to pay at the counter when you're ready to leave or you'll get told off -again. We might come back just for entertainment value.

We visited this coffee shop after a detour off the A303. We donned our masks, hand sanitised but we were still shouted at to sign the visitors book. No data protection in place, you could see people’s addresses and telephone numbers. Needless to say I gave the briefest of details. As I went up to the counter to order, as there’re were no clear signs what you should do, I was shouted at not to get to close, but to shout out what we wanted and he would hear me. Very strange owner but the coffee and food was hot, a little overpriced, but quite amusing to find someone in the hospitality trade being rude to everyone.

The staff are very keen to comply with Covid19 precautions. There is hand sanitiser by the door and a Visitors' Book to sign in. Tables are well spaced and mainly just for 2 people. Menus are laminated for easy cleaning and the tables are cleaned between each customer. It is popular with local residents as well as visitors. The home baked scones are delicious with a generous helping of jam and cream. I only just managed to resist the home made cakes as well. There is a good choice of hot drinks and the tea pots are delightful. Contactless payment is now accepted. An additional bonus for visitors is that it's only a few minutes walk from a large car park.

We visited this tea room as a divert off of the A303. We are very keen to support local businesses. When we walked in we were screamed at 'sanatise' and had to sign an old fashioned signing in book. I appreciate people have to take details but it didn't look secure. Menus were on the table and the gentleman (Paul) lurked in the background. When we went to order a toasted sandwich he said ' no toasties' sandwiches and cake only. It was 2pm We ordered the food and it was fine but very expensive for what it actually was. The atmosphere in there was dire. I seriously felt like I had walked into teh set of a film were any outsiders were treated with suspicion. When we left my friends said how rude the owner was. I said maybe he's just very anxious because of Covid. However, after looking at many reviews over a period it seems the owner is generally a bit off. An odd place, one I don't intend to return and one I don't recommend.

We needed a place to host a number of people for an afternoon tea and the Angel Tea Rooms were helpful in choosing the menu, buying in some foods specifically and baking a range of new cakes especially for us. The sandwiches were very well filled, the bread soft and fresh and the cake selection very good. The owner and staff were very pleasant, accommodating and nothing was too much effort. Reading the menu, it looked like inviting light lunches, sandwiches, afternoon teas etc. We drive up and down the A303 quite a lot and will be using the Angel Tea Rooms as our stopping point of choice for a rest and some food versus a cardboard box sarnie from a petrol station or coffee chain from now on. Turn off the A303 at Mere and head right into the centre near the market cross and support a local independent business next time you're passing. We chose Mere when we got tired and peckish and the A303 service stops did not appeal (at all!). We chose this place because the menu seemed to suit. Stopped off for lunch on our way to Cornwall. Found this one cafe with a 5 star food hygiene rating so thought we’d try it as didn’t want to go to a pub. We walked in to an almost empty cafe. We were not greeted by the man at the counter who I assume is the owner so we said hello to him and chose a table where we could both sit and look out of the window. As we pulled the chairs out to sit down he barked at us “Not that one.” We looked round as my husband thought he was joking as the place was empty and all tables free but he wasn’t. He continued saying “I can’t have two people sitting at a table for four when Ive only got two tables that seat four.” Ok I understand if the cafe had been busy but it wasn’t. We felt suitably reprimanded and would have gone elsewhere if there had been an alternative.

We said yes and a pot of tea arrived. We ordered sandwiches and soups. Off went the waitress into the kitchen. She returned carrying sandwiches for the adjacent table. Only two other tables were occupied. Back into the kitchen, came out again and told us the food had finished for the day. "But we've got tea, no good without food" we said. I had mine with egg and was pleasantly surprised to find two in the sandwich on arrival along with a copious quantity of good quality sausages. Very tasty. Oddly, when complimented, the owner said he'd just had a bad review for the very same a few days prior - chacun un a son gout I suppose. We were able to park two motorcycles (motorcyclists welcome!) opposite the tea rooms and there is a good amount of additional on-road parking close by. For two sandwiches (one with two eggs), four large mugs of coffee and two pieces of cake, the bill came to £10.50 which I thought very reasonable. Made very welcome by the owner (as usual) who had a good chat before we left.

I had an Americana, my wife a Cappuccino and we both indulged in Orange drizzle cake. The cake has to be the magnet to draw anyone off the A303. Thoroughly recommended. Many thanks Paul

We had returned to Mere after a rewarding visit to the Stourhead Estate and were in urgent need of refreshment.Upon entering Angel Corner Tea Rooms we could see that we had come to the right place. We had toasted tea cakes and a large pot of lovely hot tea and finished with a slice of home made beautiful fruit cake. The tea rooms were nearly full, it was the third Wednesday in the month, a time for a "community get together", great fun and we were made to feel at home.Paul, the proprietor, was friendly, professional and most helpful with local information that we sought. Thanks Paul for making our visit to the tea rooms so memorable.

Visited here with my daughter and her friend. We were looking for somewhere to eat on a rainy Saturday and I'd said that it would be lovely to have a cream tea. We turned down a little side street and saw this little warm beacon, parked outside and went in. It didn't feel too welcoming at first and when I asked for an egg mayonnaise sandwich, got a head shake. However, we ordered 3 x scones with clotted cream and jam, 2 teas and a cold drink. The scones came beautifully warm with the jam and cream and we were told that if we wanted any more jam or cream to just ask. Full pot of tea, jug of milk and then a complimentary slice of just-baked marmalade cake - warm and worthy of anything that Bake-Off could produce. Very clean with a good mix of teapots, curios, leaflets etc. Only take cash, so I nipped next door to the cashpoint and when I came back, even though it was now past closing time had a lovely chat with the owners, who were so friendly. I would definitely go again and would like to go earlier to sample their sandwiches. They pay attention to detail and are friendly and accommodating. In this world where people expect to get whatever they want whenever they want through multi-national companies who have economises of scale, we forget that local, independent companies are a delight and offer community and customised attention to detail that is worth everything. Oh, and the total bill was only £11.90 - bargain!

4 of us arrived at this little restaurant just as the owners were winding down and getting ready to close in half an hour's time. We were told that they weren't doing hot food so we requested sandwiches. At first they didn't appear to be too pleased, but they served us with the most delicious bacon and brie sandwiches with salad and crisps on the side and a huge pot of tea. There was a selection of attractive looking cakes in the cabinet, but as the Closed sign had gone upon the door we didn't like to indulge. Would recommend.

We were researching family history in Mere and came across this tea rooms. It was a hot day and we could not leave the dog in the car so had it with us as we walked around. I never expect people to allow dogs in cafes but when explained the owner consented. We were served politely with our coffee and toasted tea cakes. Other customers arrived, and I asked when they entered if they minded the dog being in the cafe, as I would leave if they did not to cause the owner any problems.....they were fine indeed the topic of conversion with us, other customers and the owner was our dog (a Greek rescue dog).A most amicable environment and pleasant tea room to stop at.....

Stopped off for a break here after a 2 hour journey. 1 full English breakfast and 1 bacon and toast. Good coffee. Bacon was delicious although sausages were not best quality. Spotless establishment and loos but the welcome was a little reserved. Easy parking outside. Not the cheapest but certainly convenient.

The homemade sandwiches are to die for, so tasty and fresh. Lovely fresh warm home made scones and home made cakes. We ate far too much because it was too nice to leave. We dropped in on our way home from a holiday in Sidmouth and so glad we did.Worth going off the beaten track for.

This tea room is just a few minutes off the A303 and well worth the extra miles. Instead of the run of the mill normal service stations, here you find yourself in a delightful and beautiful village, and immediately the travel fatigue seems to lift. The tea room is welcoming and easy to find. I have always found the staff to be really helpful and provide delicious refreshments at a very reasonable price. It is a stop on my long journey that I look forward to and never fails to please.

What we had was very nice, but we thought it very pricey for what we had. £4.55 for beans on toast is quite dear!

Ideal stop travelling to or from West Country. Just off A303. Good selection of lovely food which made it difficult to choose. But it's predominantly a tea room so sandwiches and cake were the order of the day. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Highly recommend and will definitely be stopping here again. Try it for yourself!

I stopped off here as part of a long journey for lunch. I had a sandwich, pot of tea and a cake. The sandwich came with a salad and all in all very good, really enjoyed it. The tea was well made too and I'm quite fussy on tea. Well worth a visit if nearby.

High tea was really generous. Bread was lovely and the scones were really good. Also a slice of cake- lemon drizzle amazingly moist. Bought along our 4 month old and very baby friendly. Even room to put him on a blanket on the floor and have a kick about. Probably and one time visit to the area but would definitely recommend and would come again.

The Angel Corner Tea Rooms has long been our favoured port of call when travelling to the West Country. With a junction at either end of the town (no doubling back to get on the A303) and free parking nearby in an attractive town I can think of no better place for a coffee break. I was though a little perturbed to read some of the reviews but I can honestly say that the tea rooms are as good, if not better under the new management. Following a review elsewhere I tried the orange cake which was superb. Tea and cake is a guilty pleasure when I'm on holiday and the cake was a good as anything I've tasted elsewhere. We had a chat with the owner who like us was a little mystified by the neagtive reviews. Some have criticised the price but I thought these were in line with other tea rooms, in fact many are more expensive. The owner was very friendly but he did say that sometimes customers off the A303 who may have experienced delays (very common now I'm afraid) may not always be in the best frame of mind and therefore none too positive. If you're looking for reasonably priced refreshment, superb home baked cakes in a clean and welcoming environment then this is the place to go.

Would just like to let people know how lovely our visit was her last week. We arrived just as breakfast was finishing but were still offered the service. The lady serving was incredibly friendly nothing was too much trouble. Excellent value for money and wide variety of choice.

I have a dairy intolerance and was served a meal with butter, slaw and mayonnaise after I had told them about my intolerance. The meal was taken away and I was served a Ham baguette with most of the meat inside being just fat and I found spread in the roll. The mustard turned out to be mayonnaise with mustard seeds in it. My family member asked for Fish and chips yet she was served Fish with French fries. I ended leaving the cafe completely disgusted and will never return.

Wedding coordinators both amazing. Prompt and professional support and advice. Food was better than some Michelin restaurants I’ve been to. Five star quality; amazing service and would highly recommend. Venue went over and above what was necessary from free coffee to supporting external vendors and accommodation

We came here for lunch and as we’ve been several times before, I was expecting to have the chicken Caesar salad. Well the menu has changed and there were no salads to be had at all! I opted for the fishcakes. They were disgusting! Also, I think they should rename them potato cakes as I couldn’t find any fish by taste or sight! And at £15 a plate, I thought it was absolute daylight robbery! I will never return to this place
