We are locals and members of the golf and leisure club, we had not tried the restaurant for several years - for many reasons. We had a very enjoyable meal last night, I had an excellent steak and my wife had fish. We had three courses and coffee plus two rounds of drinks. The restaurant was very busy mostly with golfing groups and while they were not quiet they certainly helped create a good lively atmosphere. Despite being so busy the staff were very efficient and the service was quick. To be frank - one reason we had not been back for a while was because they food seemed ordinary at a high price, but this time it was much better. I believe they have a new chef. It is not cheap, but equally I don't think it was too expensive for good quality service and food at a higher end holiday resort. For those thinking of staying in the hotel, add in two excellent golf courses!

On a holiday in the area so tried this. Food was amazing! We had the 5 course special - sensible size portions, food was piping hot when served, great range of courses including an amuse bouche, crabmeat, wonderful filet steak, pink champagne sorbet, lovely exotic fruit dessert and chocolate fondant. Service mostly excellent with good timing between courses. Does lack a little ambience - a bit too bright and spaced out but on the whole very enjoyable

We ate here twice and found both meals very good, although a little disappointed that two types of steak appeared on both evenings as we would have preferred a different choice. Seared scallops with butternut puree were delicious; salt and pepper squid was a little over cooked and dry; the vegetarian rainbow stir fry noodles was spot on.

Booked in on Valentines night, when we looked at the menu before (4 hours earlier) it looked ok, a bit punchy on the prices. However at the last moment, they decided to change the menu to 3 starters and 3 main courses, not ideal and no one informed us of this. The place has all the ambiance of a department store restaurant, ceiling tiles etc etc and there was one other couple in the place, very weird atmosphere! We both ordered the pork belly (as not much else on the now limited menu we liked!) at a punchy £18 per portion. The waitress asked us if we wanted to add potatoes, I pointed out they were included, and ‘oh yes’ she said once reading the menu! Bit of a shame the staff can’t learn the 3 menu items! But oh well it didn’t surprise me at this point. Food arrived and sadly the Pork Belly way overdone, and really hard to eat. Complained and they still charged me for it, but did apologise. In a 2 AA Rosette restaurant id expect more. The dish was poor value and poorly executed, and the restaurant has no atmosphere, might as well be sat in an Office Canteen.

This place is more like a fine dining but without that snobby feel you get sometimes in those type of places. My salmon was great and hubby didn’t complain about his sirloin and knowing he can be really picky it means a lot. With good selection of wines recommended by our host Dan it was a truly culinary experience.

The restaurant uses local fresh ingredients, all 3 dishes we had were very tasty, and well plated which gave a great visual appeal to the meal. Staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant and staff cater for guests with allergies or special food requirements. Dishes were served in a good time from the taking of the order.

Visiting with the family including a very energetic 2 year old, we had a an excellent lunch in pleasant comfortable surroundings. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu was limited, but all selections were adequate, and well cooked. The surprise was the bill very good value - even better for the youngster for whom it was free.

st. mellion is a typical golf resort but has very good rooms & the resturant facilities were excellent barring breakfast which was awful, the food had been left on the servery for ages & was way behind a good transport cafe's breakfast. rock hard hash browns , dreadful fried eggs that were 10-15 minutes old. & bacon that you couldn't put a knife into. where was the breakfast manager ?

I never give 5 star reviews but asked myself what could have been improved and came up with...nothing! Perfectly cooked beef, good sized portions and delicious desserts. Pair that with attentive and pleasant professional service, particularly from Max, and you have a restaurant worth a return visit. 2 courses for under £14 may still not be the cheapest around but it gets my vote.

We noticed that An Boesti laid claim to two rosettes. But the experience was flat uninspiring and expensive. The room the furniture the presentation, the food and the service are all uninspiring. Certainly not worth the drive out of Plymouth or the price. There is a slightly cheaper brasserie type option but still lacking in buzz or attraction. If you find yourself staying in the golf hotel you may wish to do a bit of research into outside eating options such as the two exceptional restaurants in Callington and Liskeard or the pub at Tideford.

An Boesti purports to offer fine food but it is not fine dining as I know it. The food is average but served as if it were special. The ambiance also leaves a lot to be desired as it is a square room in a modern hotel. Not a place to return to.

We've eaten here twice previously and the atmosphere is a little simple and clinical as other reviews have stated, but given the location and room available, the atmosphere is very pleasant and clean. The waiter was pleasant but not incredibly helpful. Each time we've arrived, there seems to be some sort of surprise at our arrival (despite booking). We're not greeted with a hello, it seems as if the customer is expected to explain their presence. We we had booked a table for 1:30 but were not asked to our table until 2:15. When we asked to sit at our table (considering we'd booked for 1:30), the waiter told us "All these other people have booked for 1:30 too." and pointed to everybody else seated and eating starters. Eventually we were seated and were served a beautiful meal. I had the sea bass and others on my table had roast turkey. The flavours were beautiful and everything was cooked to perfection. The flavours are fantastic each time the come to An Boesti, which is why we return despite service being a little awkward. During the meal, the waiters were lovely and friendly. Tips to the management would be to employ more staff to keep up with demand, and ask waiters to be little more attentive on arrival to ensure customers feel welcome.

We visited on a Sunday evening to celebrate our anniversary, the meal was tasty fresh. The staff were attentive, and courses were served at nice intervals, we were not rushed at all and were left to enjoy the view and a few drinks.Only criticism was that due to being a Sunday the menu was set with a choice of three dishes for each course which we probably would have liked to have had a choice from the full menu.

We stayed at St.Mellion Resort for the last week in June. Given previous experiences of eating at the hotel over nearly thirty years we tend to go elsewhere however our experience of Sunday lunch this year was excellent! The restaurant is modern, bright, and furnished with well spaced tables with especially comfortable seats.Service was excellent;friendly, efficient, and professional (with Jose, who served us taking pride in his work and clearly wanting us to enjoy ourselves). The food was excellent - good quality, well cooked and presented,in generous proportions. The lamb was especially good. There was a good reasonably priced wine list (although I was intrigued to see Spy Valley cheaper here than in the hotel Bistro!).The only slight issue was the slight lack of atmosphere because of the few customers (7 by the time we left, and I understand only 11 on Saturday evening).Assuming it's still there next June when we return we will certainly return.

We had a family Sunday Roast for 22, which was poor. It took an hour before the food arrived, and what was on the plate was just not good enough. There was plenty of beef (the only choice of meat), and it was very tender. However, what accompanied it was sparce! A few over-cooked spuds, a very small amout of roasted veg, and a dribble of gravy. No offer of horse-radish sauce, which I would normally expect?! The biggest laugh was reserved for the HALF a (mini) Yorkshire Pudding! A few of us opted for Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. We had to ask for (and wait for) some ice cream to acompany it in able to swallow it! They advertise the £15.95 as including coffee, but the 2 staff must have forgotten to offer it! As it was a joyful family day, we didn't spoil it by complaining to the waiters, but you live and learn...

We live near to this restaurant and have used it in the past but stopped doing so due to erratic quality of food. Service and Restaurant have always been first class but not food. BUT they have a new chef and we have eaten there 3 times in the last 2 weeks and every meal was faultless. There is an easy way to find the restaurant than through the hotel simply go to the front of the building and hey presto you are there. Super views over the greens and lake from the restaurant.

Finding the restaurant from reception is quite a trek through 2 bedroom corridors and a lift. There were only 2 other tables occupied which didnt help the atmosphere at all.I agree with other reviewers that the decor and ambience was very much 1980`s four star chain hotel. The tomato and cumin soup was dreadful . The plates should have been hotter.A shame really but not what it is cracked up to be. Much better available in the surrounding area.

Sorry to be downbeat when this is obviously intended to be the showpiece of the St Mellion golf hotel. We came out here at the expense of our accountants and didn't have to worry about the price of what we had. The meal was a bit complicated, very skillfully presented but not in itself interesting or tasty. The room was about half full. Ample service although not very relaxed. We had a well lubricated evening but we felt that the restaurant lacked character and atmosphere. It was like we were props on a stage set. Money had been spent on this room but it felt as though it wasn't quite real. It lacked conviviality and verve. I wouldn't come here again if it was my choice. There are lots of other places in Plymouth and twenty miles of it where you can spend this money on an excellent meal but in a much more pleasing environment.

We visited here for an overnite stay, golf for him and spa treatments and pool for me. We decided to eat in this resturant rather than the bistro and wow what a brilliant place. The staff were friendly, helpful and extremely well trained and full of confidence and politeness. There were only 4 tables utilised this evening, which was a shame as the beautiful room would benefit from having more people in it to enjoy the sublyme experience. Our waiter and waitress served us and guided us when needed and nothing was too much trouble for them. The expertise on local fayre was truly apparent when the cheese came out to one of the tables where we overheard a comprehensive talk about the cheeses and the location etc, really excellent work. We discussed the local pasty shop in Hatt, if you want a pasty the best ever please go there, sorry I digress. Our meal was well presented and so very good you really could not fault it. My husbands soup course, was an art in itself, served with a flourish to be proud of. We were so full I was the only one to have a desert, it had beaten my husband, the vanilla rice pud, with bitter chos sorbet and tuille biscuit and poached figs was divine. What was truly lovely was the gorgeous petit fours, yummy. This little resturant not well known about is a joy to visit with very pleasant staff, so knowlegeable with food that was soooo good all for well under £40 a head including wines, ciders, and extra side veg, that really was not needed, just me being very greedy. A must to dine in .Thankyou.

We were taken by friends so didn't look here or at the St Mellion website till afterwards. Pity. Modern Cosmopolitan is what the management call it themselves. Undoubtedly there is an expensive extensive wine list and our bottles of red were good if pricey. The menu was complicated but nothing great. More fiddly complicated structures. There is nothing wrong with the food here other than it is not impressive nor is it particularly tasty or even hearty. The environment is neither smart nor comfortable. It reminded my good lady of the decor in those old revolving restaurants you get at the top of very high towers in Dubai and Canada. Bland and formula design. We felt that the golf course group want to have a supposedly top flight 'fine dining' facility at each of their hotels and this is it at St Mellion. The result is not poor but it is very average and not an attractive place to eat voluntarily nor challenging or satisfying food. It is an acceptable presentation for people with fat wallets who do not necessarily look for a good meal or their money's worth. Pleased we dined at someone else's expense. We will not be back or recommend it.

Although tucked away in a very small corner of the hotel An Boesti brings a fresh modern setting to an otherwise average hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted by name and immediately made to feel relaxed and comfortable. The service throughout the evening was almost faultless perhaps one more member of staff woul have spread the load a little more however the young lady did a superb job. The food was spectacular, the menu was perfectly balanced and seasonal, the presentation was precise and consistent and there is clearly a good technical ability and a well experienced chef on board. Having eaten in restaurants across the country with varying accolades I can honestly say that our experience of An Boesti was up amongst some of the best.

I am shocked to see such bad reviews but can only put them down to the type of expectations you have when visiting An Boesti.. It is a FINE DINING restaurant at its best.. I am a restaurant manager myself and this makes it quite hard to go out for dinner as I notice everything... This is one of the first times I have been able to relax completely. We arrived on Friday eve and went to have a look at the restaurant and menu which we were VERY happy with. We asked if they did a taster menu .. the waitress said they didn't, then 2 seconds later came back with the head chef (who used to work for Heston) and he said he could make one up for us .. just for us to say what we didn't like, now on a Saturday night to get your own menu and this kind of service was brilliant..and beyond expectations of most restaurants.. We were sold.. On Saturday we arrived and from the moment we stepped in to the restaurant we were treated to some of the best service and food we have ever had.. and we have eaten at top end restaurants in Britain and The Channel Islands. Anyway I think you get the message... This restaurant is all about Perfect faultless service and beautifully made food so if this is what you like then An Boesti is Not to be missed....

Came here for a meal with senior managers after arduous audit. Determined to do ourselves proud. But it was very disappointing. Despite the hype and pretensions, the soulless international business style decor, an Boesti was no more than that. No flair, no interesting, stimulating or challenging combinations. Nor even tasty or hearty food. A dismal two hours which could have been so good. we came away with a down beat consensus that St Mellion golf hotel had decided that it needed a flash swanky restaurant but had done no more than go through the motions. It needed character and verve, some spirit, all of which were completely lacking.

Came here after reading a feature in a glossy magazine. Later wished we'd spent the evening eating in a pub or going into Plymouth. An Boesti presents itself as top notch food with an imaginative local take on style and ingredients. St Mellion itself is a large impersonal hotel and golf centre, isolated off the Callington road and gave us the impression that it had a high opinion of itself but with a captive audience and no close competition. We did not feel relaxed in the communal or bar areas. There were clutches of over dressed and heavily made up females. A sort of hint of Wags culture. The main restaurant dining room was neither impressive nor characterful. Reminded us of a hundred pop up restaurants to be found in urban Holiday Inns etc all over. The menu has some posh sounding combinations and was dinkily presented on the plates but nothing special at all. The prices are high for both food and drink. We think An Boesti is only open evenings. On our night there were plenty of empty tables. Can't recommend.

' St Mellion' is a late twentieth century very provincial golf club/hotel complex carved out of lush East Cornish farmland and boasts two courses, one for the plebs' everyday use and another apparently designed by the Jack Nicklaus firm which costs more to play on. The hotel was originally built in uninviting grey brick and comparatively recently refurbished generally inside and out, with some new public rooms. The complex is about ten miles from Plymouth. The hotel reviews Tripadvisor are mixed. We have been to some weddings and other events at St Mellion but not been impressed. The 'an Boesti' restaurant is marketed by the hotel as its first class, modern, fine dining, al a carte option for residents and guests. We were taken by friends who live in a neighbouring village, had seen the advertising and wanted company to see what it was like.. We did a bit of research, couldn't find anything in other guides and only a bit about 'modern fine dining'. We went. It cost us about £55 a head including wine. Some recognisable basics on the menu, competently done but much of the food was a bit complicated. Presented in a slightly fiddly, precious way with no delights or surprises. The atmosphere was nothing great, not solid golf clubby or lively and convivial. A small element of older WAGs but more of a bland feel of a low grade corporate in house dining facility. As to the name - where did that come from? Marketing men? There is no Cornish feel to the restaurant or the golf complex generally. All round very ordinary. Not surprised that it doesn't get talked about or feature in the guides. The hotel brasserie is OK and a more than adequate place to eat if you come to play golf or to one of the antique, bridal or food fayres.

An ok dinner experience was brought down by the general manager being a little too sharp with ‘jokes’, complaining about hours worked and lack of staff and being too busy, felt like we were a burden and not paying guests. Food was good, nothing out of this world. Restaurant felt a bit like a function room. View was amazing but you cant see if from the restaurant except for a few tables on one side.
