Ampthill Tandoori in Central Bedfordshire

A very nice quirky restaurant located in ampthill town centre, good options on tue menu and the food was very nice…I ordered a chilli garlic king prawns dish and a chilli chiken dish arrived 🤷‍♂️ I could of made a fuss but as it took ages to turn up I wasn’t keen on sitting around for another 45mins so I ate it. Also we asked for water for the table four times and it never arrived, my guest ordered a rosé spritzer and it turned up with no lemonade 🤦🏼‍♂️ Aside from these minor issues the food was very good (esp the prawns 🙄) but the service was very hit & miss.

Worst service and management in the area. I'd avoid. Won't deliver a full order as placed. Brings the starters back 20 minutes afterwards. There are many better locals, any of them. Steer well clear or lose out.

Standard menu choices, but good prices … decent service, but no wow factor at all. A middle of the road place. I would avoid the pashwari naan tho’ !!

The roulette diners descended on the small market town of Ampthill for a Saturday evening curry at the appropriately named Ampthill Tandoori. The beers were flowing, the banter from the waiter was on point, but the arrival time for the food was something to improve on. As was the toilet situation with only a single male and female toilet. Not ideal for a group of young men with small bladders out drinking with the big boys. Starters were ordered, and one of the group ordered what looked like an omelette, but all four ate with absolutely no complaints. A period of football chat then broke out. This included omelette boy making some heroic assumptions about certain premier league defenders that made all others question his sanity. After what felt like too long, the mains then arrived. Two of the group went for the dish which included a bald sauce. There was indeed a distinct lack of hair in their dinner, and all agreed that the sauce was a pleasant surprise! The other two in the group went for a Bombay chicken dish, and something with spices in it. Despite the wait, the dishes impressed. The naans were fluffy and the rice was fragrant. As is tradition, the waiter selected the card of the unlucky punter who would have to pay the bill in full. Bald sauce number 1 tried to add a tip to reflect the fact he had very much enjoyed his folically unendowed meal, but for some reason unknown to everyone the waiter talked down the amount extra that he should pay. As they left, the four young men wondered where their next outing would take them, as they all looked forward to an evening of Pickleball at the world renowned Flitwick Leisure Centre in 2 days’ time. Food - 5/5 Service - 4/5 Timeliness - 3/5 Football knowledge from omelette boy - 2/5

I’m sure the food here would be lovely, in fact I would genuinely love to comment on how delicious it was, but we have waited 2 hours for a delivery and still nothing..! No apology until prompted when called, only the excuse that it’s busy on a Saturday... So nothing to review but more a bit of advice… if you want a delivery on a Saturday night here, maybe consider ordering at lunchtime!

Absolutely love this place! The food is simply outstanding and consistent - every visit, the food is of the same high standard. The menu is extensive, but don't let that put you off. There are the classics sitting alongside dishes you may not have heard of before, such as the utterly delicious Crocodile Tears. Service is top-notch and there is always a warm welcome. Great value, too! Cannot recommend Ampthill Tandoori highly enough!

4 adults and a 4 year old at 7pm very accommodating for a Saturday night. food was outstanding as well as the service. Was lovely they tried to keep my 4 year old entertained and gave some sweets. food was very fresh, and accommodated rice and curry for the little one. Best Kori in ages!

The food was delicious, there was a huge choice. The waiters were friendly and helpful. They even allowed us to take in a birthday cake. It wasn't expensive either. A lovely evening.

Excellent takeaway food - would recommend

Hi guys Thanks for the mesl last night how ever a few suggestions. 1 water can i suggest you look into what caused are water to come with all the bits in. You said it was the ice. if it is you ice machine needs cleaning its full of lime scale. Not good for your customers. 2 when You serve your coke don't keep the 100ml left in a can and then use for another customer it will mean you constantly serve flat coke. If you customer's challenge you that there coke is flat dont mislead them that you have just opened the can you will leave them feeling like there being difficult customers. And I don't belive you want your customers to feel this way. 3 when you have kids can you be more imaginative than to just provide 3 after eights on a plate at bill tome kids rearly like dark chocolate . May be some sweets. 4 clean the tables better after each course especially after poppadoms. 5 provide hot towls try to make the visit an experience. 6. Don't water down your soap in the toilets hygiene is important to everyone at present On the up side food was nice as was your service price reasonable

Service is good. Food is okayish. Both Chapli Kebab and Reshmi Kebab were hard, it's supposed to be juicy. Dal Chiken was good, both Dal and Chicken well cooked.

Absolute joke. Ordered at 18:00 they said 40 mins wait and now been waiting for 30 mins. Food is ok but takeaway service is diabolical. Avoid if you can there are better takeaways locally.

We ordered a takeaway from here last night. The man on the phone was friendly and funny, we spent £35 and he offered us a free bottle of wine. The food arrived 35 minutes later and was delicious. I had the Gosht Laziz which was brilliant and my boyfriend had a Phal strength Naga which was the perfect level of spice. We will definitely get our curries from here in future :)

I placed an order for delivery after recommendation of the food at Ampthill Tandoori from a friend. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food as I never got to taste it !I placed my order on the on-line ordering system and all looked great. Expecting a delivery in 45 mins (as stated on the website) I phoned up after nothing arrived in an hour. Apparently the order had not come through. To be fair they were very apologetic and explained it must be a website issue (strangely enough though, it managed to take my credit card payment !) so they took my order and promised to deliver as quickly as possible - 45 mins max. 1 hour later no food so I phoned again and was told to be patient as they were busy !!! Yep, 2.5 hours after ordering and paying, I really should be patient ! I was told the driver was on the way so would be with me in 10 mins. 30 mins later still no food so I phoned up and was told the driver was on the way but I had had enough waiting by then and to be honest it was too late to eat anyway ! I was promised a refund back on my card and would come through in the next few days. 3 weeks later still waiting - just phoned the restaurant to chase it and apparently they asked their website person to sort it yesterday ! I was told I could go in to the restaurant with my card to get a refund......just completely baffled how their website can take a payment from a credit card but not a refund. So now I am waiting for their IT guy to give me a call....possibly.....So, my patience has finally run out......I would strongly recommend avoiding this establishment

Avoid at all costs. We placed a takeaway order for over £50 with this restaurant using Just Eat. Food was cold and items were missing. Restaurant refused to refund as we'd ordered through Just Eat! Just Eat will only compensate not refund so I've only got £20 back. Staff at restaurant were rude and unhelpful which was particularly disappointing as we've had pretty good service in the past and given them plenty of business.Their excuse for cold food was that they were busy! We won't be using the restaurant or Just Eat again as it's impossible to get redress if something goes wrong.

Food good especially railway chops, but cramped and not insisting on masks or covid tracing when I visited.

Not a very good experience! Ordered a lot of different items, all meat dishes were extremely dry and overcooked lamb jeera, chicken mango curry, chicken pakora. Rice was ok and chilli paneer. Otherwise was Luke warm at best will not order again very disappointing

We used to order once or twice a week from Ampthill Tandoori and always very happy with the food. Tonight, we placed an order online for us and our 3-year-old. We got a message half an hour before the delivery was due saying the restaurant had cancelled it. No other reason or explanation was given, and the restaurant didn’t answer their phone when called. Unfortunately this catastrophic balls-up has undone all the months of good meals we’ve had from them, and we certainly won’t ever risk ordering from Ampthill Tandoori again.

Went here with friends for the first time last weekend. Was pleasantly surprised, nice, old fashioned surroundings, great food and very pleasant waiters. Great value too Will definitely be returning 👍🏻👍🏻

Best indian around easily! Wether you eat in or takeaway

We ordered a takeaway and was told it would be 45 minutes to 1 hour. They asked for my phone number incase they needed to call me. After an hour and 15 minutes I called and was told the driver was on his way and that next time I should get a discount. After an hour and 40 minutes, I called again and was this time told the food was ready and they would be leaving soon for delivery......really!! I understand its Friday night and Christmas but there's no need to lie about it. No phone call and nothing offered for the poor communication and service. Won't be going back!!!!

I been coming to Ampthill Tandoori over 2 year, bcz friend of mine recommended us to come and try there food, which we did and it was wonderful, superb. Before we used to go to Arena, Maruf used to look after us. But Ampthill tandoori was better. Last few visits we were upset, we normally come on Sunday. Week before last week 4 of us came, we felt ignored, uncomfortable by the waiter, the guy with waist cote and broken English was to busy to play on his phone and speaking very very loud his mother tongue. We told the guy several times to keep it down and no response. We told to see the owner but reply was I am the Manager, I can use my phone. You have no right to complain about phone. You can complain about food good or not. I felt down and disrespected front of my family. Last night we phoned for takeaway and same person answered and extremely rude. So we left with no choice to go Arena. And it was fabulous. We won’t be coming no more, neither none of my family and friends... Good buy... Please fix this issue or else you will continually loose Customer’s. Sorry guys......

Good food and attentive servers

We booked a table for diner at Ampthill Tandoori as we were advised the restaurant gets busy especially on Saturday nights. On arrival we were seated and drinks arrived promptly. This is an old building so the flooring is not level so the table was wobbly.All in all the service was really good but we did not rate some the food so much. The starters were great but one of the main courses was well below what my husband expected. It was flavourless and very disappointing. In saying that my main was delicious.

Received a delivery that was partial cold and some food burnt. Rang to try resolve. Bloke who answered phone couldn't understand me so was passed to a colleague who offered to replace some of the food however pointless as that meant we couldn't sit down as a family to eat. He offered a refund on full order to which we agreed and then he back tracked and refused, telling us to go via the app for assistance. Won't be returning. Disappointing as usually its been nice.

If you want to eat in and have a table don’t bother as the priority with this business is to cook for the take away / delivery orders 1st, every table I saw sat for hours waiting for food, the place has got their business acumen all wrong and taking on more than they can handle :( sort it out Ampthill Tandoori your guests deserve better

This is our go to Indian restaurant, portions are always so large they last us two nights and the food is delicious!

Be aware, delivery driver did not have change on him, the order came to £15.00 tried to pay with a twenty and was asked if we had the correct amount and that he didn't have change. Food was sub standard anyway.

Our party of 7 was disappointed at the time it took for our food and drinks to arrive!! Food was good but as we booked for 7pm, we didn't get our starters until 9pm!!! 2 waiters obviously isn't enough to cope with a busyish evening and no interaction between customer and staff on any waiting time or if we wanted more drinks etc. Second time this has happened to us and attention to detail is paramount in running a business

The food was good once we eventually got it but unfortunately it took an awful long time. Our table was booked for 7:30 & we didn’t get our food until 9:35 & that was with us only ordering mains & sides.We had been in there for an hour & 15 before they even took our food order & even then they were dragging their heels. We were told by the waiter that the kitchen had asked to hold back taking orders as it was obvious they couldn’t cope with what they needed to cook. And that was without our order! The restaurant was well occupied but not full & admittedly we were a party of 12. But even so was disappointing & we certainly won’t be rushing back. They were certainly quick enough to be serving us drinks funny that. Another group of people that arrived around 8:30 sat down & then got up & left so may well have been told of how long the delay was on food. It’s a shame as if they keep that up they’ll loose a lot of their custom by people going elsewhere.

I visited the restaurant to collect my takeaway order last night. I was staying at centre Parcs locally and we wanted a Indian takeaway. I found this place and ordered. The food was ready within 30 minutes. When I got there they told me there was a 15% discount on phone collection orders too which was very good. The food was delicious. One of the best Indians I have had. I live in Leeds and beats any of my local Indians hands down. If we return to Woburn centre Parcs again this place will be getting my order again!! Excellent!!

We were taken here with the promise of a really good curry. Seeing the lovely old wooden beamed building suggested we might be in for something a bit special. Sadly, it was not.

The food is very good but both times I've been here found the service poor. First time they got the order slightly wrong a second time not very attentive. That said, I probably will go again, and may adjust my rating if the service is better.

I moved into the Ampthill area a year ago. I quickly found the Ampthill tandoori and have found it to be the most consistent Indian restaurant in the local area. The restaurant is located right in the hear of Ampthill on the main road next to Costa. There is plenty of parking nearby in the Waitrose car park which is around 300 yards away.

We have been quite a few times food always very tasty and service is very good there banquet night is perfect never disappointed and would definitely recommend

Phoned and order through. Was told 45 minutes. Waited another 45 minutes. Should have said they were busy. But they were happy to take a large order and throw a couple of extra popadoms in compo. Service and food quality going down hilll

First visit recently with a group of friends. Pretty reasonably priced and my food was actually very nice. I assume my friends was as well as there wasn't a lot left on the plates. The wine was pretty decent too. Will visit again, or order a delivery before I'm a lot older. Service might be a little slow for some, but we weren't in a tearing rush.

We had a takeaway from here tonight and I have to say it was the blandest curry I have ever had in my life.The menu looked amazing and we chose 3 different ones.Ranging from a madras to 2 classed as medium hot. More like chicken stew.So disappointed

New Years Eve, we booked a table for 4 a number of weeks earlier to be sure we got a table at 7.30 and were coming from afar to meet friends from another part of the country for the evening celebrations. When we arrived around 5.30 we checked they were expecting us and they had no record of our booking, strange also they only take Chrisian names. They did manage to rebook for 8.30 so we decided to wait until then. When we arrived, they found us a table and then it was over an hour before we got our starters, even though the restaurant had loads of free tables by then. All the food was slow and the waiters obviously just wanted to finish and clear up other tables..... Such a shame......

Booked a table at this restaurant for my girlfriends sisters 40th birthday meal. We were a party of 10 so we weren't expecting a really quick turnaround of the food from ordering to eating but it took almost 2 hours before we even got our starters! When we complained we received no apology from the staff and we felt more like an inconvenience than a paying customer! When the food did arrive it was very nice but by this point we had all lost our appetite and the children were all getting restless! So all in all not the best customer experience despite the nice food.

Starters were good but mains lacked a little flavour. Better than you can get in Bedford.

Have visited the Ampthill Tandoori many times and it has always been lovely but the last two times I have been the food has been nice but the staff have been so miserable. When you go out for a meal you don't want to be served by someone who looks really fed up. If the restaurant does read this then you need to up your game because there is so much choice in the Ampthill & Flitwick area for people to choose from I doubt I will be back there for a while.

The menu is extensive with plenty of choice for everyone. You only need to ask if you want your dish a little hotter or milder and nothing is too much trouble. The waiters are always friendly and the service is well timed. Having eaten in the restaurant many times and also had takeaway, the food is always consistently excellent.
