Ambience in Argyll & Bute

Cafe has a great selection, has charging points both plugs and USB, the ice cream is spectacular, the staff are great and friendly. Loved the food, never tasted a burger like that B4 :)

Arguably the best place to eat on Bute! Pizzas are sublime as is the bruschetta! Great selection of drinks too! Super friendly owner with great staff and the waitresses are also superb! Can’t recommend this place highly enough! A must if you’re here on Bute 👍

Decent food, above cafe standard. I had a margarita pizza with jalapenos and onions, and humus, olives and bread. My wife had langoustine and king prawn linguine followed by pistachio ice cream. They serve a range of ales and wines, fairly reasonable. Service is pushed a bit hard, but she did very well considering how busy it was. It is advisable to book using the Facebook page in the summer.

Had a fabulous late lunch at ambience today 24th July with myself and twin granddaughters..omelette was lovely girls were happy with their choice ..young girl that served us was great very professional 😁

First time diner, good meal, lots of choices on today's specials. Good portion sizes. Good value for money. A big shout out to Hailey , who served us today. Great service and couldn't do enough for us. My wife is a wheelchair user and access wasn't a problem. Maybe a board or better signage with daily specials on would be good. As the window had basic choices, but they do a lot more and need to let people know. A really good experience and definitely will return. Thanks

A friendly wee cafe with a huge specials menu. No issue catering for coeliacs 😊 In fact, it had been recommended on a coeliac facebook page. We ate lunch there twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not a 'fancy cafe', furnishings somewhat basic, but the specials menu is surprisingly extensive with lots of choice. It's the food, cooking and presentation which make this a special little place. The prices are reasonable too, especially given the quality of the food. Staff are very attentive and friendly.

Stopped here for a bit of lunch and was definitely not disappointed .. delicious lentil soup and a boiling piece of bread .. followed by steak pie and the wife had a jacket tattie with tuna .. then a wee homemade scone.. anyone in Rothesay should pay Ambience a visit we'll be back thanks ❤️

I’ve eaten twice here since new ownership taken over recently and thorough enjoyed the traditional Caribbean food! The Blue Mountain coffee was fantastic a real treat. Beautiful views over to the harbour. Lovely friendly staff. Looking forward to having an evening meal with a glass of wine next time I go.

We visited with our young kids based on a local’s recommendation and were not disappointed. Very clean, very smart. Fantastic service. We had a very filling lunch - excellent food and fantastic value for money. Wound highly recommend!

Lovely place opposite the wonder garden and ferry terminal. Food was good and kids were handed a goody bag, with puzzles, crayons, etc - that was a bonus and kept them busy. Staff were really friendly and accommodating - I had a salmon from their evening menu.

We had two vegan hot dogs and one meat hot dog. These were all very tasty and filling. The cafe was very well set up to be Covid-19 safe, with hand cleaner, screens and excellent compliance with face masks. It's in a brilliant location for the ferry. I also had some vegan ice cream and undeestand that vegan cake will soon be available too. Great coffee with several choices of beans.

5 of us had lunch just after new year. My soup (tomato, basil and pepper) was excellent as was the eggs benedict, pancakes and macaroni cheese chosen by the rest of the family. My sister had the scrambled tofu which she thought was tasty but a little dry. All things considered, we liked this little cafe and judging by the number of other diners, so do many others.

While the vegan selection makes this cafe an accessible option for group visits, it would be difficult to recommend to visitors to, or residents of Bute. The French toast was cold, the vegetarian breakfast was dry and the eggs benedict was inexplicably served with a translucent gloopy fishy stock instead of Hollandaise. It's not a friendly environment, which is such a shame given the potential of the cafe. Beautiful views, plates and cups can't make up for a poor effort in the kitchen. Perhaps it was an off day, but I'm sad to say we won't be back to find out.

Popped in around 3pm for a late lunch.First thing that struck us was the number of regulars and the friendly banter with the attentive staff.From elderly people sitting nursing a coffee whilst reading the papers to families, everyone was welcome.We ordered a baked potato with prawns in a marie rose sauce, and a baked potato with a prawn balinese curry.Stunning, flavour packed home made food and huge portions too!Carrot cake for dessert was yummy, and the bonus... It is licensed! A cheeky afternoon Pinot Grigio finished off a lovely meal.

A very friendly and hard working couple run this place. The interior is very fresh and clean and well maintained. The food is fresh and simple and prepared with love. You can always rely on a warm welcome and a lovely comforting meal.

We came here due to the great reviews on TA and we weren’t disappointed. My partner had the Thai prawn curry which was delicious and I had an open prawn sandwich which was excellent. I’ve never seen so many prawns on a plate!! Served with a lovely fresh side salad too. The staff are friendly and helpful and the decor is really nice. Directly opposite the entrance to the ferry terminal, this cafe deserves to be found.

Really enjoyed lunch here today. Friendly and helpful staff. I had vegan toastie..was delicious. Music fab too. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Simple cheese sandwich with tomato and onion. Very bland, didn't find the onion. £5.40 for a piece and cheese. Nice bread though and staff lovely.

The food was very good and the people running the busines were very friendly, helpful and professional.

Popped in here with family for our lunch, very busy place, think we were lucky to get a table that day, always seemed to be people coming and going just coming in for a quick tea or coffee. The food was delicious very tasty. Hot chocolate was to die for. And the staff were so friendly. Would Definitely return here if we are ever in bute again. Mainly sandwiches and toastie, also some lovely cakes and homemade fancies to have with teas and coffees.

For a buddyExcellent as always, I had the gluten free goats cheese and roasted onion tart, which from the specials board ( the specials are always varied (was topped of with a vast amount of molten goats cheese, an excellent short pastry base and was served with a supberb wee salad and some quality home made potato salad.Washed down with a pot of proper leaf tea.My good lady had her usual turkey, cranberry and brie sandwich which was up to the usual Ambience high standard.oops nearly forgot to mention the home made Millionaires shortbread, which was indeed fit for a millionaire.Like I said not bad for a Paisley buddy! go on give them a visit, the friendly staff will make you most wellcome, you deserve it.

I recently went to ambience for breakfast and it was absolutely fantastic poached eggs cooked to perfection and the staff were very polite and attentive

Arrived here while waiting for a spoke to be fixed on my bike. Tea served in a pot is excellent. even with a 3 minute egg timer for the perfect brew. Very friendly and helpful service. Large range of records to choose from and an excellent sound system. Very relaxing. Could have stayed there all day, but had to go back for the bike, and the ferry.

Beautiful cafe, great coffee and select your Vinyl and they’ll play it! Recommend the avocado and poached egg. Really friendly staff.

This was my first visit to Ambience and I was very impressed! I popped in for breakfast and was so surprised to see toast with avocado, poached eggs and tomatoes on the vine. It was amazing, the eggs were cooked to perfection!

Rothesay is sadly lacking in classy little cafes and it was a treat to find this one. Easy to find, it's situated on the main road to the right of the ferry terminal. It's small but perfectly formed. Bright, fresh and clean with real tea ( with a little 3 min timer supplied to get the perfect cuppa). The menu is not huge but there are specials on. We had toasties and salad. Really nice. The cafe is also now licenced if you fancy a glass of wine with food. Lovely staff and great service. Definitely recommended and I will be back on next visit. Well done to the owners.

Haven’t visited since it was taken over (to our shame) so today was our first visit. Lovely warm welcome by the ladies that were working there. Small cafe but very busy with lots of local regulars. Better half had lovely yellow split pea and vegetable soup with tasty brown bread, I had a baked potato with cheese and lots of salad, a very large plateful. Proper record player with lots of vinyls as background music which is great.

I make a point of eating here when we visit Rothesay. The coffee is amazing, fresh tea is a delight. The food is beautiful and freshly made. It's a very relaxed café and the owners remember you from previous visits. On a 3 night break we were here twice! It's right across from the main pier so it's easy to find.

Popped in here out of the rain for coffee and cake, hard to find somewhere in Rothesay, but this was brilliant! Bright, modern, stylish cafe, amazing coffee, yummy cakes, cool music played on a real turntable, friendly staff, couldn't fault it. Need to come back for lunch.

Lovely hidden gem on the fromt in Rothesay, lovely coffee shop. Open toasted sandwiches with homemade coleslaw delicious . Clean, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff - well worth a visit.

Have walked the high street and seeing a few sad looking cafes we were very happy to come to Ambience.

THE best tuna melt in the universe! Homemade bread, freshest ingredients - all served in a super friendly atmosphere - and GREAT vinyl music!

I'm always excited to try new cafes in Bute, and Ambience didn't disappoint. We arrived and quickly found an empty table & were given menus.

We visited here and ordered specials.

We went for a morning coffee and were so impressed we returned for lunch. The small intimate restaurant and toilets were spotless, the staff very friendly and nothing was too much of a problem.

Called in for 1st time. Warm welcome and smiles from proprieter and staff. I used to rave about another place on the Island havong the best coffee, but that crown now goes here.

Great variety of tasty food, well cooked. Beautiful decor in a fantastic spot. The coffee was excellent and apparently the teas aren't bad either. I particularly enjoyed the chef's collection of vinyl music. I love this place!

We had pea and garlic soup with homemade bread, followed by sandwiches - avocado and tomato, and vegan “sheeze” with onion and tomato. We’re not vegan or vegetarian, but these options were tempting and good quality ingredients were used. We were even offered a taste of the vegan cheese to make sure we liked it before ordering. All freshly prepared and very tasty. Loved the background music ( America, of Been Through the Desert on a Horse With No Name fame was playing when we were there, and you can choose the next to play from their vinyl library). Staff were very friendly, and the chef and his wife gave us a few tourist ( and baking ) tips as well. A great asset to the island.

Popped in for lunch on Saturday. Bright, clean and modern, lovely decor with nice atmosphere. We had a warm, friendly welcome. Lunchtime special of moussaka was delicious. Would visit again next time in Rothesay.

Wow! just had lunch at Ambience in Rothesay and it was fantastic. Food was unbelievably good and the service excellent. This place has just recently opened and is a must if you are on the island.

Excellent food and service from very friendly staff, without a doubt it has the best fresh Brewed coffee ☕(and fresh real tea leaf tea) on the island.
