Amaia Restaurant in Wakefield

This has been one of the best curry restaurant over the years Never had a poor meal until last weekend. It has now changed owner and unfortunately we found the food bland and cool when served. The staff and service was still good but disappointed with the food

The food here is just beautiful!! The nicest curry I've had a in a long time and the service was with a smile! Definitely 5 stars. I will be going back!! Well we've been back a few times now and it gets better every time!!

Wow what a gorgeous meal!! This was my first time here and definitely won’t be my last. All the food was super tasty, the chicken melted in your mouth and the best meat and spinach balti I’ve ever had!! Best Indian in Wakefield by a mile.

Love this restaurant! Never had a bad meal. We did wonder if it would change when it was taken over but it hasn't. Would definitely recommend.

Good simple Indian cooking. Very tasty. Attentive staff. I have been several times and will go again. Good menu and a good bar.

Ordered lamb baltis cooked to our specification and we were not disappointed. Plates we nice and hot and the baltis was delicious, lots of tender meat and rich sauce. The pilau rice was excellent too, huge portion. Staff were friendly, first visit for us but will return

Great food, staff and atmosphere

Accommodated eight of us on a Saturday night with no reservation. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food tasted great. Will definitely come back.

The service was second to none. We had not booked and turned up with 2 young children in tow. The staff couldn't have done more for us. The food was very good and lots of it. A very good experience all round.

This place has gone downhill since it changed hands. There was no atmosphere at all as in background music so you could only sit there and listen in to everyone’s conversations, the lights were so bright I thought I’d visited Blackpool illuminations . Ordered a sizzling starter but there was nothing sizzling when it eventually arrived - the food was mediocre at best. It was freezing and we were told there was no hot water to have the heating on. All very shsbby won’t be returning .

New owners no idea, food gone downhill not warm sizzling starter not sizzling no hot water clearly not paid music licence like sitting in a library freezing cold but take your sunglasses as more lights than Blackpool.

Lovely meal to be fair until it came to desert and we were told that we could have either a desert OR coffee and not both. We were disappointed as felt your advertisement mentioned both and also had a statement that anything could be ordered off the Al a cart menu. We were also asked to vacate our table when we had only just finished our main course as other people were waiting. There was no mention of this on arrival when this could have been better explained. It was rather chaotic on leaving with no one thanking us or saying good- bye

I would thoroughly recommend Amaia as a place to go for beautiful food. From the moment we walked in there it was a brilliant experience. Staff could not have been more helpful and attentive - you could tell they operated to high standards, both front of house and in the kitchen. Absolutely brilliant and thanks so much Amaia, you gave us all a fantastic evening !!

Shared a Roshni kebab - totally delicious and glad we shared as it was big. Excellent Keema Paratha, right amount of flavours in the meat, with the delicious butteriness of the pastry, perfect for mopping up. Mains were both delicious, good quantity and quality. He had a Bombay aloo side and was happy, I had garlic rice and there was double the needed amount and it was tomatoey which I've never had in a garlic rice before, but wasn't horrid. Staff were nice and service was good.

Ordered through their own website to be told it’s nothing to do with them. Get your own refund and NO FOOD DELIVERED. Been a very good customer for a lot of years. Never again

Issues with the chicken tikka. Ordered garlic chicken tikka balti but the chicken was not what I would expect from freshly prepared tikka and it certainly wasn't cooked in a tandoor on a skewer. It was solid as if it had been pre-prepared or perhaps batch cooked and frozen. When we complained to our server the plate was immediately taken away and a 'manager' came over who tried to assure us it was freshly made. He produced a small plate of freezing cold cooked cubed chicken which had a red colouring on the outside. No evidence of char that you get from proper cooking nor any skewer marks through the meat.. The sauce was very garlicky which was nice but used the pre-prepared minced garlic rather than fresh which was disappointing. We didn't finish our meal and weren't offered any discount off our bill. Some good points: The service was attentive and the place was clean. The starters were good.

I had booked the royal spice but due to a very sad bereavement the restaurant was closed so went here instead. Service was chaotic to say the least even though there were only a handful of people in drinks order had to ask twice and wrong drink came. Poppadoms soft and chewy curries came two were wrong had to go back. One of our party had a nut allergy asked for a curry without nuts or could the curry she wanted be prepared without nuts answer no so what can I have a plate of chips! Really in this day and age nut allergies are quite common. I had to call the waiters at least twice from the other side of the room whilst they chatted together. I guess by the amount of people in the restaurant says it all really.

This is now my favourite curry place to eat in Wakefield. Had several dishes here. Very friendly people here. A pleasure eating here. Recommended.

I was charged for the meal they then came back and said I hadn’t paid enough so the supposedly voided the transaction, they then charged me the correct amount. When I got home I checked my bank accounts and the had taken the money out twice, I went back and they insisted that it was void, I contacted my bank and the agreed they had taken the money. It took a month but the bank got the money back for me. Please be careful when paying by card

Fantastic food and great service, best curry house in Wakefield

Very poor. Bland. Dry. Tasteless. Will not be returning. The starters were dreadful. Dry hard undercooked. Looked stop bought. Very cheap.

Great Indian restaurant! The food was great: very tasty and spicy and they also have kids meals so you can go with the family! Staff is very nice and helpful, they especially made a typical tea for me although it wasn’t on the menu. Deserts were pre-made and alright and I would have expected more traditional options. But still had a lovely evening!

Absolutely the best redteraunt in Wakefield. The food is fantastic and staff are brilliant. We were celebrating a family celebration for 19. The wife wasn't happy with the tables in a line and wanted then in a horseshoe. Staff practically rearranged the entire reteraunt to make her happy and get it how she wanted it. All food came together and piping hot and the normal brilliant standard. If just want a curry or of its a special occasion this is the place to make you happy.. There is a reason this is my favorite restraunt ever

Visited few times before, always very good food and service. Not sure what went wrong last night. Large party of 12 service very slow, food missing, delay in sides for some people resulted in cold curry’s and one full meal forgotten. Table not cleared after we had finished eating, we had to ask twice. Dissatisfied

Myself and three others dined here. The Quality of food was excellent and service is second to none. The whole restaurant experience was warm/welcoming and spotlessly clean throughout. We all agreed in our party of 4, we would & will recommend to anyone wanting an authentic meal at very reasonable prices. Be seeing you again all very soon 🤩😋😊

6 of us went on a Sunday, good food but they need to update the prices on the online menu as they don't match the menu in the restaurant

It was very good, but as we had a take away, it's 4 stars as I can't comment on the service or atmosphere.

From Leeds working in Wakefield tonight, typed "curry near me" this place came up. When I arrived I recognised the place, I'd eaten there 10 years earlier. I ordered lamb tika and onion baji starter and chicken dopiaza for my main meal. The food was fantastic, really tasty and good portions. The best curry I've had in years. Definitely going back.

Very nice curry, service was good and attentive. It was very quiet at early doors and didn't get much busier but I enjoyed the meal and would definitely eat there again.

Ordered a Xmas day selection for the family from Amaia in Wakefield. It was great customer service ordering with Ahmed. The food was delivered at the requested time and was really delicious had vegetarian options and meat options. The food was boxed and hot, would highly recommend. Thankyou. X

Food was delicious and they served good portions. Plenty of choice for vegetarians, which isn't the case in many restaurants. Service was a little slow. I think the atmosphere suffered as there were not many people in, probably due to how cold it was that evening. Unfortunately, also, the heater was blowing out cold air. I did mention the cold draught to one of the staff who just said it's the heater! I don't blame them trying to save money due to the astronomical cost of energy but the heater should have been turned off. After others in our group complained about the cold they did bring a heater out; unfortunately for me it was placed at the other end of the table.

Never tried Amaia before 1st visit as we are new to the wakefield district and very pleased with the service and the choice on the menu , tried three other local Indian restaurants definitely say my favourite.

we've been coming to the Amaia for over five years and can't fault any of their food. Their chapattis , parathas and nann breads are always light and cooked to perfection. They are a very friendly team and service is excellent , a special mention to Adrian , an exceptional ambassador who's dedication and passion always shines through.

Very nice food drop drink prices a bit and I'd say 1 of the best

Food is ok but not amazing. Solid 6/10. Not worth £70 for 2 people. However, what is the point in having high chairs but not having any changing facilities? Our baby was in need of a nappy change and the only options we were given were to change him on the floor of the disabled toilet, or change him on top of 2 bags of dirty laundry stored I there. Never known anything like it in my life. Either have a changing table installed or get rid of the high chairs - babies are either welcome or they're not.

Always outstanding food when eating in the restaurant or having takeaway delivered at home. One of the best in Wakefield, easily.

Food is great! Was unlucky enough to arrive when a very large party were there, we waited almost an hour for our food. The manager did apologise and we had a round of drinks on the house. The service was good to be honest but the kitchen couldn't cope with the table of around 20, they weren't the easiest of customers. We will definitely eat here again 👍

Visited last night for the first time 6 of us dined and we all thought the food was beautiful 3 of us are vegetarian and the curries were so tasty choice was excellent will definitely return

My hobby took me to the area, met up with friends. We all enjoy a curry and we found Amaia on Google, the staff were welcoming and very polite. We ordered popadoms, starters, mains and sides. All the food was tasty and very nice. Prices are also very reasonable. Highly recommended Amaia. Apologies for the picture, it isn’t the best angle but proved we were there 😎

We ordered popadoms, pickle trays then three meals with rice & family garlic naan and were so disappointed. The naan bread was warmed up and damp, not freshly cooked and all three curry's were bland with very little chicken. If I had received this in the restaurant we would have sent it back. The Amaia used to be our 'Go to Indian Restaurant in Wakefield' but we won't be returning', what a shame.

Visited today with family it was a very average curry not very nice rice and we were charged £4.50 for soda water we certainly won’t be going back

First time at the Amaia. 6 of us in the group. We hadn't booked but it was early so managed to get a table. The staff were very friendly and made our visit a pleasant experience. Restaurant spotlessly clean and pleasing on the eye. We selected popadoms, a starter, main meal with rice and a peshawar naan. Food was amazing and so much on the menu to choose from. I will return.

Had a meal here this ev . The food was very nice and tasty. Each dish was full of flavour best Indian meal we have had for a long time. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. The staff were lovely too very pleasant. Thankyou

After many meals from here tonight I was very disappointed, with the lack of ethnicity relating to the pathia. The difference in the meals was inconsistent and it related to, what I can only describe as, frozen chicken pieces in a spicy soup consistency. Having Pathia many times before from several restaurants, including this one, has left me annoyed at their lack of originality to the dish which they are clearly capable of!

A pretty standard Indian restaurant experience, the food was nice and the server a pleasent girl, I can definitely recommend.

We've ordered regularly with Amaia for ages and they never disappoint. The takeaway service is prompt, the staff are friendly, and there are so many good curries it's difficult to pick a favourite!

We order from here every Friday evening, we also went for a birthday meal with friends on a sunday evening. The food was outstanding as usual, they also kept the restaurant open for us to stay late. Brilliant evening and definitely one of my favourites...

Good okra curry, something I was really craving for some time as I am vegan. Nice deco and very friendly staff. I am amazed that this place isn't bursting. Price for me and my meat eater partner with his alco drink was decent enough. I can't fault it. Oh and for those looking for gluten free options, this place would serve you loads and alter some meals to suit your needs. Just being nosey at couple next table, who was gluten free;)

This place is not far from where I live but I'd never been before. I'd often looked through the window but going in was much nicer that I'd imagined. The service was good and attentive but not too much. We had a few starters, my husband had Rashmi kebab starter and I had paneer. Both were delicious. For main I had lamb and spinach balti which was also great. I would definitely return, it was good value and a nice meal.

This was one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to and trust me I’ve been to a lot over the years, The king prawn starter was delicious and delicately spiced to perfection. I had the lamb Multani Murgh and again it was so tasty...

We’ve been to Amaia many times and I can say it’s one of my favourite curry houses in Wakefield. The food is always absolutely gorgeous and so tasty, and everything is always the same and never changes - which is a good thing to have...

Just ordered for delivery; the food was really bland and wasn’t a masala sauce, the onion bhajis were tiny and not particularly great either. I won’t ever order from here again, will just stick to the far better indian places in Wakefield.

Came 28/08 with friends to celebrate my birthday. had a great night, we all enjoyed are meals, staff are friendly and the service is good. The menu has a good choice and is very reasonably priced. Will defiantly be back and will be recommending aswell.

We went on a Wednesday night and we were pleasantly pleased that there were a few other visitors too which gave it a nice atmosphere and not just an empty restaurant with only us in it. The service was excellent - very helpful and attentive....

Was recommended this by a colleague and oh boy was he correct. Very friendly staff and has to be the best Indian food I have had in a very good while. Woody done well pointing us in this direction.

Service was. Abysmally waited 2 hrs for main course and when it arrived was cold. Never again. It is a shame but was a good restaurant will never go again.

Lovely meal here, it is quite expensive tbh but luckily got the Government deal so was good value with that. Garlic naan not very garlicky but still tasty. Staff very friendly and checked several times we were happy which I liked.Like everywhere these days a glass of coke is overpriced but that seems the norm unfortunately, it doesn't encourage people not to drink drive which is a shame.All in all a nice restaurant with very lovely staff :)I would return but for a treat/special occasion, as can get cheaper meals in other places.

We dined at Amaia this evening and the place is amazing, the food is top notch, great quality and tastes out of this world. The restaurant itself is lovely and the staff were super friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Great restaurant and will be going back.

Food gorgeous and service was great! The only reason I haven’t gone 5 stars is that other than a bottle of hand sanitiser at the door, nothing had changed in terms of adjustments for covid19. Tables were still close together (there wasn’t even 1m between us and the table next to us). No plastic screens or anything... more worryingly, the restaurant was pretty busy yet no one took any test/trace information from us which made me worried that if anyone in their did test positive, there’s no way of the restaurant contacting us and I’m not sure that’s legal??

Nice restaurant with good atmosphere. We were seated quickly and our drinks orders were taken. We had poppadoms and a pickle tray while we browsed the menu. They were all tasty, but rather small portions - we had to ask for more mango chutney so this wasn’t a big problem. The restaurant was very busy so it took a little while before we ordered starters and our mains.I had a chicken pakora starter that was excellent. My chicken and spinach balti was very good. We ordered three rice between four people and thought this would be enough but, on reflection, you would need a rice per person as the servings are a little small. Overall, a few teething problems but the restaurant was very busy due to the Eat Out offer. I would visit again.

We visited and the place was completely empty. Ordered 1 and half of lager and lime. The drinks came and no lime. They said they would replace they did however they replaced with similar quality drinks. Didn’t say anything this time. Orders mixed starter and seafood platter. Both fine with mango chutney and mint yogurt. We were still hungry so ordered lamb tikka and liver tikka. Liver was fine but lamb was really tough. Mentioned this is server and said nothing. Partner challenged it and said he heard what I said and didn’t need telling again. Rude. Brought bill. Not removed lamb tikka, challenged it and said would not be removing. Partner said we not paying for it as it was Rubbish, eventually after arguing he did. He said we were not welcome again and we complained about the whole meal with is not true. For a restaurant with no customers we were not treated like I would be expected. Sorry we won’t be coming again and we usually go.

Very good curry house! I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he gave me a curry not on the menu- which was very very good! Staff were attentive without being overly intrusive. If you’re in Wakefield give this place a bash! We will be back again!

Our first takeaway order having missed this place for the last couple of months. Amazing hot tasty food, delivered in no time. We can't wait to return to the restaurant but in the mean time, we will continue to order takeaways, our fav Indian for years, cannot be beaten, highly recommend

First time at this restaurant since I lived in Wakefield, didn’t disappoint, lovely fresh tasty food, it was a takeaway delivered in no time at all I may add and the food was Great and red hot!We will be going back and now changing my curry house of four years.

Love the family naans here, not found my favourite curry yet but will keep going back to try more. The service is excellent

Ate here with a group of work mates. The staff were great good banter, this helped generate a decent feeling, lots of energy. The food wa ok without being that interesting. Get the feeling that they have dumbed down the menu which in my opinion is a mistake.

Once again great service all staff are friendly making you feel very welcome and the food is superb.

Best Indian in Wakefield. food is always really good quality and delicious. we cant go a week without having an Amaia. The King prawn Tikka is great.

Booked a table for a special occasion on Monday 4th November. Turned up to find it closed. People had travelled from distance. We left our phone number when booking so we could have been contacted.Disgusting

Had heard good reports about Amaia so decided to try it. Visited on a Saturday evening and booked a table for 7pm expecting it to be busy but when we arrived there was only one other table occupied. It did fill up fairly quickly after we arrived. The menu offers all the usual curries with a few house specialities. I had the Goan curry which was excellent as were the onion bhajis which I had for my starter. The three of us all agreed the food was very good and there was nothing left over on our plates. Amaia also caters for those who prefer alternative food options. There is a separate section of alternatives, ie not curries, on the menu. This is a well maintained, clean, well furnished restaurant with ample parking in the Council car park just across the road. Good service and very reasonable prices. We will return.

Food brilliant service spot on from the waiter who paid attention to the people in the restaurant unlike the one that spent the whole of my visit talking to one pair of customers , all customers should be treat equal far too much time spent with his table/friend , well done to the guy been attentive to everyone elses needs thank you
