Alma Crown Carvery in Winchester

From the time we arrived the service was friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout our visit from everyone serving the food and drinks and finding the high chair. The carvery was excellent, very tasty, hot and such good value for money. Great for families. We will certainly be back.

Carvery was excellent but the state of some of the chairs is really off-putting. It makes it difficult to bring along other people and the state of the chairs has been apparent for several visits. Are they regularly checked for repair/replacement/cleaning up?

I visited here today with my husband and young daughter. We managed to make a booking in the morning for the same day which quickly got fully booked. The carvery was a decent price, although I wouldn’t recommend paying extra for the pigs in blankets unless you like them anaemic. All the food tasted great, although the yorkshires did look and taste like aunt Bessie’s frozen ones. The cauli cheese had no flavour and really wasn’t cheesy. Saying this, the roast potatoes were lovely, best I’ve had in a long time. The child’s menu is great, my daughter had tomato pasta and a brownie and icecream which was roughly £5 and she loved it. The staff all seemed friendly enough too.

Beautiful carvery. By far the best beef in a carvery I've ever had. Wonderful service by an exceeding friendly and attentive head chef / server. Definitely made us smile and feel valued. Would definitely recommend

We spotted The Alma when driving back from a day out. The carvery was ideal as we didn't need to wait for our food. The carvery meat was very good. There was a good choice of vegetables, some good eg cauliflower cheese but some not quite so good eg beans and peas. It was overall good value for money as we had plenty to eat, and used the kids eat for £1 on the app The waitress who took our order was friendly and helpful.

Thoroughly enjoyed mid-week carvery. Well presented meat and veg options - fairly priced and of good quality. The food is kept hot under heat lamps that actually work!! We enjoyed lunch so much that we returned the next week for the breakfast buffet which too was of good quality, variety and value. Both occasions were reasonably quiet with no queuing. We will return with "great expectations". Thanks to all in The Alma.

Wow! This place took me by complete surprise. It’s not the biggest looking pub from the outside but when we found the car park the garden area looked so inviting and the inside is much bigger and more spacious than we first thought. We all had a mixture from the menu, the children had kids pizzas and they were freshly made with chips and vegetables, ice cream included in their meal too! I had the Philly burger and wow that was to die for! My partner had the carvery and said it was the best roast beef they had in ages. We enjoyed our drinks in the garden area whilst the kids played. Will definitely return when I’m back in the area, honestly a hidden gem I cannot wait to visit again.

After hearing great reviews about the alma we decided to try it out and we was not disappointed from start to finish. The girl front of house was very welcoming and friendly ,after getting a drink at the bar Ben the manager showed us to are table we have a few dietary requirement with ben was more then happy to see to are needs , I had a burger witch was cooked really nice and came out nice and hot ,my wife and kids had a carvery witch was also very nice and cooked perfectly 👌 I cannot recommend the place enough definitely be going back again on a Sunday, the only down side was I could not eat it all 🤣🤣

2nd visit on May 7th😊👍.. Knowing the protocol re dogs from my previous visit, I secured my dog in the garden & ordered a very tasty & definitely freshly made pepperoni 🍕..👍😋.. As with my previous visit , I was greeted with a warm smile & served with equal friendliness. My only observation, which others have noted, is that I feel the interior & garden needs some TLC.. A complete joke. We went to the carvery on Sunday evening and at 7pm there was no meat left. The vegetables looked unkempt and like they were yesterday’s rejects. The restaurant stops serving at 9pm? This is two hours before! Stupidly, my Wife said let’s take the Grandkids out for a meal on Bank holiday Monday. What a complete joke this was. We waited over 40 minutes for our food. When it did arrive, the chips felt like they had been under the hot light, burgers way over cooked and the child’s pizza was undercooked. The carvery meat was sliced so thinly you could see through it. Veg section was as good as the day before. We shall never return in a million of years.

A man served my husband a carvery, he felt rushed. The meat was bone dry, gravy like water and roast potatoes were extremely salty. I asked for a Fajita Chicken pizza but the lady who served me it has been out of stock for weeks? Then I asked for the Mezze pizza but they said that was also out of stock but could do a pepperoni pizza? The pepperoni pizza is what I opted to share with my husband but the pepperoni tasted really cheap and oily. The toppings were very stingy. The nipper who made it kept laughing in the pizza area? I said to the young lady who took are plates that we didn’t really enjoy and outlined the above. She was presentable and said sorry. Would we return no? When my husband and I ordered coffee to finish our truly dreadful meal. My husband heard two of the male chefs appear to talk in a hushed tone by the carving meats that a staff member is like a Hitler and we think we heard the word her, takes to long for a kitchen check. Not sure what all this means? My husband and I are on a pension and we did not expect Harrods standards but this did put us off and we will not be returning.

Favourite family restaurant! We all love it here! The staff are always really friendly and have time for every customer! The food is always amazing and great prices! I recommend the Alma to everyone all the time!

We were hurried through our carvery, given the last scraps while the chefs and staff stood outside smoking, we were made to feel like we were in the way and they were trying to close up for the evening. It was 7:45pm when we arrived. Place was more or less empty.

Had a superb breakfast, great value and eat as much as you want. The pizzas and burgers looked great too. Will definitely be back to try the carvery soon.

Staff are always fabulous carvery is great value though turkey often dry but otherwise a lovely meal, our only critique is the pub looks tired & unloved, it needs a lick of paint throughout as is shabby, such a shame as we think it would be even busier if it looked better & more care for the place.

Lovely big pub with really friendly helpful happy staff, good varied menu with a good offer on meal deals and also offering an amazing carvery which looked delicious . The service was quick and the food was really tasty and fresh and desserts were yumcious looking forward to returning to try the carvery

I believe his name was Andy ( the gent who greets guest) which was helping with everything and was brilliant with the service, blonde lady behind bar was lovely and friendly ,also took our group family picture . but also the young lad behind hot plate carvery station he was welcoming and very friendly .

We have not had breakfast at the Alma for a year or so, so thought we would give it another try. So glad we did, the breakfast was lovely and plentiful. The problem with this carvery style breakfast at many other places is that the fried eggs are not replenished frequently enough. Not the case at the Alma, there were plenty of nicely cooked fried eggs. Also fried bread which we love and you don't see at other places. The staff were really busy, as it is a popular place for breakfast, but so friednly and welcoming. Great place with a great atmosphere. Thank you.

Made the mistake of ordering from the carvery at 7pm. Most of the food has clearly been there for a long time. Rock hard roast potatoes. Remnants of turkey hacked off from the carcass and picked up from the counter. Supposedly freshly cooked pigs in blanket clearly cooked hours ago with frazzled bits of bacon. Very hot room with no ventilation. Only reason for not giving 1* the two bar staff, overworked taking orders, running the bar, clearing the room and over-worked yet still smiling.

Good value for money with free parking and a good menu and reasonable prices, portion size good as well. Ice cream machine not very often used so iced up so avoid this purchase but other than that the dining experience was good and a good experience

Dreadful place food is below standard no vegetarian option for gravy and the worst thing was the cheesecake was not fully defrosted and veg was not hot . Beef was fatty and of low quality . The atmosphere was non existent . We had the carvery so I can’t comment on the other food on the menu.

Have been bringing the grandchildren here weekly for after school treat they have pizza we have the carvery. The pizza is delicious. To be honest it’s not the best roast but it’s definitely not the worst. And at £7.79 it’s a bargain Choice of 3 meats always tender and tasty Good selection of vegetables. Nice family friendly restaurant on the whole always good. The staff are brilliant and always attentive and friendly. Gives me a night off cooking and cleaning so I get to spend more time with my grandchildren-happy days 😊

The alma opens at 9am we arrived 9.50 only one other couple there, breakfast was all dried up been left under the lights without being turned, could not cut the bacon black pudding or fried bread. Eggs like bullets totally unacceptable never will we have breakfast there again.

My partner and I visited the Alma recently and it was near perfect. The staff were friendly and the food was so good! Perfect Pizzas and crispy, fluffy chips. Clean and well organised for Covid-19 I’d highly recommend for a nice time out.

We had travelled almost 2 hours to visit Marwell Zoo, which is 3 mins from the pub. We noticed the pub on the way in and thought it would make a tasty lunch as the zoo didn’t have much to offer. We have never dined in the stone house chain of restaurants so didn’t know what to expect. When we walked in it was cosy warm, nicely decorated and we were greeted by friendly staff. The menu caters for everyone, we chose a selection of starters and a freshly made pizza. The food was great! Piping hot, amazing pizza dough and large portions. Price was incredibly good too.Sadly we don’t have any of the chain near our home but happy to travel to one if it’s as good as this one!Really great lunch, I’d really recommend.

We have regularly used the Alma for their 'all you can eat breakfast' and this was the 1st time eating there for an evening meal. From entering the restaurant and eating we felt safe, clean and protected. The staff were masked at all times and also used the sanitisers that was placed around the restaurant. They took the time to explain the processes and why. I watched them clean a vacated table and it was throughly disinfected. This is coming from somebody who has become quite paranoid about Covid hygiene. We all opted for the roast which was well cooked, plentiful and fresh. We all cleared our plates. We have always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, it was the same this evening even knowing that in a days time they would be back to being furloughed.It was a very chilled and relaxed evening. We will definitely return for the evening/lunch meal aswell as the breakfast in the future. The staff in The Alma are a credit to the Stonehouse. P.S This chain of restaurants accept The Defence Discount Service card.

We visited the Alma yesterday. It was our first family trip out since lockdown and I was feeling very nervous. Well, I have no idea why. We were looked after by a lovely lady called Yvonne who made me feel at ease instantly. She was extremely welcoming and her warmth and care allowed me to relax and enjoy a meal out with my famiy. The food was lovely and very reasonable but it was the staff that made the experience for us.

I visit The Alma regularly with my wife and neighbour. Convivial atmosphere, friendly staff and really affordable prices await you here. I strongly recommend you try it, you most certainly won’t be disappointed.

This is the first time we had been out with our baby since lockdown started, we were welcomed warmly, everything was clean and tidy, all the tables are well spaced out.The food is delicious, the staff have done really well at adjusting to the new way of working, we felt very safe. I definitely recommend a visit or two.

Visité algunas veces, aunque es un asador, atienden a vegetarianos y veganos, por lo que, como vegetarianos / veganos, nos complace apoyar a Alma. Las pizzas vegetarianas y veganas siempre han sido buenas, y el asado de nueces veganas. Las ofertas diarias y los cupones, excelente relación calidad-precio, y el personal es muy bueno, Yvonne y en nuestra última visita, Carla fue excelente con el servicio de mesa. Ciertamente tengo la intención de volver, ¡debes probar la hamburguesa vegana la próxima vez!

Llevamos a nuestra nieta a dar un gusto después de la escuela al Alma Inn, ella eligió este lugar porque le encanta el asador, no estamos seguros de qué esperar con las restricciones de covid 19 vigentes, pero lo encontramos muy bien administrado, Ben fue nuestro servidor que nos recibió en la puerta explicó cómo funcionaban las cosas, pedimos pizzas, y un asador infantil, todo bien presentado y muy sabroso, en todo una experiencia agradable,Todo el personal con el que estuvimos en contacto fue increíble, un saludo a Ben, Carla, Megan y ambos Jack be's gracias, chicos, volveremos, sigan con el buen trabajo y estén a salvo.

Todos tuvimos una gran comida. Éramos cuatro. Todos elegimos el asador. Marcó el tamaño que deseaba y eligió las verduras de carne, etc., que estaba preparada para usted. Todo estaba delicioso y caliente. No tuve que esperar mucho. Todo el personal fue amable y servicial. Las nuevas reglas acababan de comenzar a usar una máscara hasta que sentarse a la mesa no fue un problema. Las obras completas fueron masivas y los hombres lucharon con la cantidad de comida. El tradicional era lo suficientemente grande para las damas. Reservé una mesa porque no estaba seguro de cuán ocupados estarían. Siempre nos ha gustado el Alma Inn y quedamos muy impresionados con los procedimientos establecidos. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Buena elección de otra comida si lo prefiere.

we went at 3.30 ish, first carvery since lock down and wish we never bothered, it was that bad it left a bad taste for hours after eating. There was only 2 other people in there and all carvery was there ready so not sure why we still had to wait 30 mins, all that was doing was letting the food get even more dry and rock hard. it honestly tasted like it had been sat there over night, everything was rank, roast potatoes didn’t even look like potatoes they were so dried out, cold and hard, the gravy cold and lumpy, veg was watery and cold, stuffing couldn’t even chew! chef or server couldn’t bring himself to even smile back, looked like we were bothering him by having to serve us. and before any reply on this review, you cannot blame this on corona!! it has nothing to do with it. use to eat here all the time but definitely wouldn’t go back for carvery, it made me feel sick. might give it one more go for pizza before i write this place off completely.

First visit since lockdown eased. Procedures they have in place are OK if you are happy to wait over an hour to get your carvery while watching the staff stand around talking and they be told the delay is because the staff are busy.Food quality is OK, same as pre lockdown, you jyst can't help yourself at the carvery anymore (understandable and no issues with that) but just not worth waiting an hour for!

Took my family here for an evening carvery, having been here many times in the past I was expecting a decent roast for a cheap price. What we got was half a carvery after waiting 45 minutes. Only had gammon and turkey, no beef! The limited veg was hard

We went as a birthday dinner. Once we nearly finished our meals my son had realised that some of his chicken was not cooked properly. We obviously told a member of staff who argued it was definitely cooked and he was offered another meal. There was no apology or offer of refund for his food. We would have been fine with a apology and a refund for just his meal. No way could he of eaten anything else due to feeling physically sick as did the rest of us. Staff thought we were happy as the youngest still had pudding. We would normally have a few drinks and all have pudding. The gossip between staff was truly awful and made us very uncomfortable.

Went for a carvery on Saturday lunch time, the food was like warm, which was quite disappointing, the pub was quite empty from the last time we visited, the service seems to have gone downhill, on the upside the strawberry trifle was good value.

Staff here are really nice, shame the carvery is awful. Pizza was good, reasonable for the cost. Nice toppings and dough was perfect. Carvery was dire! Gammon was completely tasteless and fatty, turkey was as dry as sticks! Even covered in gravy the turkey wasn't nice. Hardly surprising as the gravy was basically brown water, it had no flavour at all. The Yorkshire pudding was nice, veg was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately not great after being stuck under hot lights for hours. Roast potatoes were variable, some tasted ok (the brown ones), but others looked anaemic and weren't cooked long enough. No pork crackling available (apparently that's only on weekends, not sure what they do with it during the week). Stuffing was in a big tray, again really dry and no flavour. Pigs in blankets weren't cooked long enough either, not good. The cauliflower cheese would have been ok had there actually been any cheese sauce in the dish! I scraped the bottom of the dish with the spoon to gather what sauce there was, about a tablespoon. Definitely not eating here again, very disappointing. Amazing they're still in business.

Visité el Alma Inn en mi camino a casa, tuve una pizza de pollo y tocino frito sureño que, aunque el servicio fue algo lento, la calidad de la comida era fantástica. El personal del bar era increíblemente amable y acogedor. Una niña (¿Emily?) Fue particularmente educada y amable conmigo, lo cual fue muy agradable mientras esperaba mi pedido. Los precios eran promedio pero buena comida de calidad.

Generally very good quality of food when we have had the Carvery options and the staff generally pleasant. However the pizzas that we had yesterday were rather "chewy" although the topping was tasty. We had the pizza Margherita.
