This is my second visit to ALG but it most definitely will not be my last. We had several bacon butties and a slice of flapjack. They were all made freshly to order and in really quick time and I'm informed by those who ate them they they tasted delicious. The bread is all fresh and absolutely lovely and definitely by far the best flapjack I've ever had.

We have become regular customers at ALG. We love their breads and cakes. All tasty and excellent value for money. We order a Mediterranean loaf stuffed with olives and tomatoes on a regular basis, it's vegan too. My husband is a fan of the salted caramel brownies they make. I love the gluten free orange and almond cake when it's available and the Nelson squares (which are excellent when warmed and served with clotted cream or similar). In the Summer the variety of scones make wonderful cream teas. The owner bakers are very friendly and serve a variety of hot drinks, take away and eat in snacks and small lunches. Easy to find it's opposite the library in the big modern building with the car park right outside.

Leslie & Hilary make the best baked goods with lots of gluten free options, which I really appreciate. They are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for the lovely treats

Fresh great tasting bread & some of the best cakes I’ve tasted, the butterscotch tart is superb. Keep up the great work you do, especially in these extraordinary times.

This bakery has so many gluten free cakes and bread (for no extra price as they don’t believe in making gluten free people pay more) which are all lovely and fresh! Lots of great non glutenous food too! Lovely friendly staff who can’t do enough to help.

Hidden a bit out of centre near the Town Hall & Library, but you should search this bakery out. A wide range of bread and cakes all made and baked on the premises. Everything we had over 3 days was absolutely fantastic and at a very reasonable price, unlike the expensive and ordinary in the centre.

Excellent bakery - everything is really fresh and very tasty. They make a range of breads suitable for special diets - high fibre/gluten free/lactose free/low fodmap etc. The staff and owner are really helpful and are happy to advise on the ingredients of all of their products.

The Review below is true. Very negative experience on Wednesday. My 7 yr old was brought to tears being told off for walking up the steps to the entrance. The man In the bakery behind the glass told him off, move off/ away. I was several steps behind carrying my nearly 2 yr old. No idea what he's done to get such reaction. So obviously I'm keen to know. We were met with hostility indicating the steps/ entrance are dangerous and that children have had bad accidents and that repairs were expensive. But even if he was climbing (but he wasn't nor causing damage or appearing to do so) - why so hostile. To then see other children walk as we had done without caution, to then also be followed down the street and pushed by the lady from the shop to lunge and loom over my 7yr old to tell him off was frankly intimidating and bullying. I've suggested they put up a sign if they don't want kids, at least it would be something to know what was expected of customers and pedestrians but they say signs don't work. Use a rigid sign, day-glo, stencils on the pavement? Something is better than nothing surely short of redesigning the steps. So any other unassuming customers like us - beware, the hazards and the hostility. Being a responsible parent we set rules so kids know when breached. Nevertheless the reaction was over the top and left a 7 yr old in tears. I'm sure they have their fans but I've retold the incident as objectively as i can. I've reached out to the owners who don't dispute the incident nor apologise for their hostile approach just claim the serious safety issue that their entrance presents - which i don't doubt - but why so aggressive?. And that they only had my child's safety in mind. But simply walking up steps does not warrant the hostility we experienced. It was the hostility we are upset by and something they don't even recognise. Perhaps anger management would be of use to them. But on the upside a lady who saw and heard it all ran after us to comfort my son that it wasn't his fault and see that i was ok too. We are new to Newark, shame one of our first views is tainted.

Ordered two large desserts for my sons surprise 18th family celebration. The desserts were absolutely delicious. Each served over 10 and every single crumb was eaten. Lovely people to deal with and extremely good value. Thank you

Brilliant little place. Very busy in the summer months, used by motorcyclists. Excellent veggie breakfast - first class. As was the meat breakfast. Lovely folk running it, dining inside is great, small, but with long pine bench type tables. Lots of outside, under cover seating. Toilets etc. Parking in big laybys alongside the cafe. We'll be coming here again, most definitely when next in the area (Sherwood Forrest, Clumber, Rufford - all very close).

I recently visited with some friends who are elderly. Noticed that they now have a waiting list and a buzzer service. We was all made to wait outside for over 20 minutes for a table. Told to go round the garden center to see if there is anything we would like to buy. Yet there was lots of empty tables and people coming back empty handed after walking round garden center. The point of the matter is if we wanted to buy something we would of. Not being tricked or forced into buying things. It's very clear to see that the garden center sales are down as now they are forcing people into buying. We will not be calling back till this buzzer episode is removed. So now not only have they lost sales in coffee shop also in garden center.... There are better places in the local area....

Called in yesterday (7th March) with my family. Lots of choice for cakes & hot drinks. Sat inside but on a sunny day will try outside. A ramp to gain access inside for Mum using a Rollator. Struggled to park on the road outside so used car park at rear of gp surgery. Warm scones, will be back. No wonder our friend said give it a try & you will enjoy it.
