Really lovely pub can not fault the food or the service, such a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. By far the best pub in the area

Midweek meal with friends, good food and service, only one niggle my food wasn't quite hot enough in temperature, apart from that all ok

Our favourite place to go, food has always been immaculate, more on the pricey side but it’s worth it! Loooove the desserts, would always go again, staff are amazing and good value for money if you go for a light lunch as well! Well done, we are hooked x

Been here a couple of times and the food has been amazing every time. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and it’s also got a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Also very reasonably priced for the quality.

Cannot recommend Railway Inn highly enough. It's the umpteenth time we've been and it just gets better. The food was great,Fiona ,Kendon and a young lady whose name I don't recall looked after us. Popular well-run local restaurant with food of consistent quality. Not many tables so booking essential. Portion size varies between dishes e.g. Starters Mushrooms on toast large vs. Cod cheeks small. Venison shepherd's pie main was surprisingly bland and salty with no real gravy or sauce. Not gamey at all. Broccoli side dish on the small side for those who like their veg. Satisfactory overall but not Excellent or Outstanding hence 4 stars.

Food and drink were alright, nothing to complain about, however, nothing to shout about either. Service was very attentive, and all in all, we had a nice family Saturday lunch.

Visited for Sunday lunch with family. The roast beef was tender and the vegetables well cooked, but the chef cannot make gravy. Having an otherwise delicious meal floating in brown water is unacceptable. Meal apart, the pub is lovely as are the staff.

Excellent food, we've booked to come back in a few weeks so I can try the fish & chips my partner said was the best he's ever had and he's a food snob!

Had a meal for 8 people and very nice it was. A traditional style pub menu, comfortable, friendly setting and an excellent price.

2023 Christmas Dinner update. Superb. The staff are attentive without being intrusive and could not have been more helpful with allergies and menu substitutes (the chef even took time to write out an amended menu to show what could and couldn't be done for a diner with an allergy) We had the festive lunch menu which they kindly allowed us to have even thoigh with illnesses our party was less than the required 8 covers and it was amazing. Very high quality, beautifully presented and the value was exceptional. I had the whipped goats cheese waldolf salad starter, caramelised onion and beetroot tart for main and the cheese plate for pud (not needed but I squeezed it in) Highly recommended. I'll definitely come back.

Loverly pub, didn't have any food, went for Xmas Market outside in marquee, nice beer.

Sunday roast was really nice, beer was good. But there's some shady Tory faithfull types hanging about. Best keep an eye on them, they might crash your economy!

Worst Sunday lunch I have had meat no taste the whole meal was cold not just mine but 5 out of the 6 meals we had need a lesson in food preparation the only reason did not say anything was it was a birthday treat how this place get one of best pubs is a laugh also the wait between courses was over 45mins yes it was busy but still not a excuse.

Came for a drink in the middle of Sunday Service, great reception from the bar staff, plenty of outdoor seating. Will come back.

Didn't try food - Sunday Lunch looked good - proper hearth Yorkie pud.. Sat in the newly frefurb beer garden - kids loved it - lots of space good clean inside - staff busy but attentive to our custom at bar.. Will definitely be visiting again..

Food portions are very small for the prices! Few cheakpeas in small bowl, with fried leaf on to0 for £17? Fish and chips with few chips and crushed peas! No gravy with or anything. Disappointing to say the least!

The food is great and well presented, the staff are always exceptional, it’s obvious that this pub is very well run. We look forward to coming back.

Always a fantastic meal at The Railway whenever we visit. The roasts are top notch and they are consistently accommodating of children in our party. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

We had the most brilliant Sunday meal with family at The Railway last week. There was a big group of us - 14 all together and I have to say, the service and food was impeccable. We were seated and served drinks immediately. The food came out piping hot and delicious with no big waits between courses. Everyone in the group said how much they had enjoyed both the meal and the service - no mean feat when it comes to such a large group. We were honestly so impressed and can't wait to come back again. This is a gem of a pub with wonderful staff. Thank you to the team for looking after us so well.

All the staff were super friendly and helpful and food was delicious. Overall, a lovely pub and we were all really happy with the experience!

Overall this busy pub/restaurant provides a pleasant evening with a nice atmosphere. On the whole the food was good with the exception of the flat iron steak which was jaw achingly chewy and lacking in flavour. Prawn starter was good, burger was more than acceptable. The truffle fries were the star of the show 😋 delicious! Desserts were a mixed bag, while the Sticky Toffee Pudding was somewhat lacking in flavour and pretty mediocre, the Tiramisu was good and the Honeycomb parfait a well balanced end to the meal. Service was lacking somewhat, polite and friendly but we were left without drinks for some time and not checked on until we had finished. A long wait between ordering and each course. And without drinks that's a no no from us. We would go back again but not for steak and not if time was an issue.

Superb pub. Well run, attentive staff and wonderful food. What more could you want? Easy to get to from Nottingham by public transport so leave the car at home and take a short train ride to Lowdham and give yourself a treat. Dog and human friendly

Fantastic food. Very friendly staff - a pleasure compared to many places these days!!

We met for lunch at the Railway, six retired friends, not least because it’s so convenient to Lowdham train station - 90 secs walk. The decor and “railway” style is very nice, in a pleasant spacious pub. The staff are delightful and couldn’t be more helpful, charming and pleasant. But above all, the food was great! We all opted for the lunch set menu (£25 per head for starter and main; £30 including dessert). This meant three choices at each course: starters were chicken terrine, Caesar salad with salmon flakes, or tempura battered broccoli - all very generous portions. Mains were steak, cod or roasted aubergine with chickpeas - again, all delicious and good sized portions. Puddings were sticky toffee, brownie or cheese plate - again, very good portions. Overall delighted with our meal and service - would highly recommend.

A really clean, welcoming and comfortable place to visit, they have a great selection of wine to choose from.

Where do I start! The food, the staff, the atmosphere, absolutely amazing! The food was so delicious and the staff was so friendly and professional. We've had a such a fantastic evening and we are still buzzing. The atmosphere was amazing with live music! I loved it! I will definitely be back and I can't wait!

Enjoyed my visit last Saturday as I was looking for somewhere to eat for my wife's 60th birthday in September we sat adjacent to the bar but unfortunately some of the language being used by one of the locals was a bit choice and off putting for the occasion we had in mind 😳

Food was lovely but was a bit too noisy for me, was a Friday evening though at around 5.30pm so I suppose is to be expected. Vegetarian choices were good and a little different to the ordinary pub vegetarian offer so was very pleased.

3 of us went for and absolubtly incredible Sunday lunch starters were brilliant perfect Sunday lunch pork belly top notch and followed up outside in the sun with a coffee amd amazing Stickey Toffee pudding many thanks to Robin and the team

A group of 20 for Sunday lunch can be a headache for many venues but not the Railway! The team there are amazing, very attentive and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. Food all arrived together and was really good. It sounds a simple dish but their Caesar salad was the best I've ever had

Visited for lunch with the family. Lovely clean pub and garden with plenty of space for children to explore. The food was great, no complaints from anyone and empty plates all round. Staff we really friendly and professional, would definitely visit again and strongly recommend.

Used the Railway a number of times over the last few years. I find the staff welcoming and attentive, the menu has enough variety to suit most tastes. On the latest visit we chose to sit on a small decking area overlooking the garden, lovely spot in the late sunshine. Enjoyed our visit and will return.

We have been to this place many times. Either as a couple for with a group of friends. The food is always excellent. Five stars. We had quite a long wait for the food this time, but we were offered drinks on the house and front of house staff are great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A nice garden at the back to sit if you wish. Looking forward to the next time

We booked for an evening meal. The menu is limited but all the ingredients are fresh. The quality of the service was good and bad. The food is good, but nothing special. We’ve had better locally. The service was slow (but then that might be that it’s fresh). However our night was spoiled as we were seated in an area next to the doors to the garden. As the night was sunny and bright, the kids were in and out like yo-yo’s. Not only we’re we cold (this being early May) but our food went cold very quickly. A long wait for cold lamb (ughhh). People shouldn’t be seated next to these doors or another set of doors should be added to exclude the draft. When we complained, the girl behind the bar simply shrugged her shoulders. I would have expected some apology and an offer of future hospitality or a little something by way of compensation. Not a jot. We won’t be returning as the customer service is poor and the attention to detail is poor. There is so much better in the area for less money. You don’t have to look too far to find something a lot better for a fraction of the price.

Lunch In their beer garden. What better way to spend a very rare sunny day in a pub garden with your doggies. Not just any pub. It's a multi award winning gastro pub We chose here as we know the food is good and it's very dog friendly. They do a set menu as well as A la Carte. The set is 2 courses £25 / 3 courses £30 We decided to have the set. Starters Braised Beef bruschetta Creamed mushrooms on toast Mains Fresh Tagliolini Pasta Courgette, Wild Garlic & Herb Sauce Olive Gremolata, Parmesan Chargrilled Flat Iron Steak, Fries, Slow Roast Tomato, Mushroom, Rocket salad Dessert Sticky Toffee Pudding, Muscovado Caramel Sauce, Vanila Ice Cream Railway cheese plate Everything was delicious and all freshly cooked to perfection. A great value meal. Service was very good, with smiley helpful staff. They even brought a water bowl out for our doggies 🐕. Highly recommend a visit here. Our dogs, Freddie & and Bobby, loved it, too. They do allow dogs in the bar.

Amazing Sunday roast , kind friendly service ,very clean ,booking advised

This place is absolutely superb. We've wanted to go for ages and it was worth the wait... one of the best Sunday roasts that I've ever had. It is well worth the awards and the reputation that The Railway has. I went for the roast beef which was cooked to perfection, amazing roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds and the veg was fantastic. One thing I loved... we were sat near the pass and saw them plating up some roast dinners. Something obviously delayed things so they couldn't finish in time and they threw it all away and started again, rather than sending out food that had been under the heat lamp for ages. That's a commitment to standards and I really liked it. Only downside... we weren't offered sauces. We had pork, beef and chicken and there was no offer for apple sauce, horseradish etc. Also generally I prefer to pour my own gravy on a roast so I can have it where I want, but that's a small gripe. Service was largely excellent. It's not the cheapest, we spent about £150 on four Sunday roasts, two desserts and a few drinks, but it's worth it for a treat. Absolutely brilliant and we can't wait to return!

Easy to book. Easy to find. Courteous and attentive staff. Reasonably priced set menu with excellent quality interesting food. Main menu varied with decent vegetarian options. Really enjoyed our meal here.

Friendly, attentive staff serving generous high-class food. My main was even allowed to be a larger version of the starter "black pudding scotch eggs," which were divine. Homemade chips and parmesan grated high, with truffle mayo. Prices reasonable and reflective of quality and our current times. So spend and enjoy! Beautiful set up inside with "Railway" type features. My first time here; even born and bred a few miles down the road! So it's a hidden gem. I'm definitely coming back for a hot summers day or even a winter warmer...

What a great pub. Plenty of places to sit and live band was setting up whilst we were there. The food and service was outstanding. Lovely menu with plenty choice and also good gluten free choices too. Stunning quality of food and very friendly efficient staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

I’m a bit late posting however, better late than never. A Christmas Lunch 2022, this restaurant made for a lovely Christmas atmosphere. I had a vegetarian option. My started was nicely presented but sadly let down but it’s main course. It was quite small for the price and extremely dry.

Been reading good reviews from different people so decided to give it a go. We didn't book, but we were still made welcome. Food was delicious, made in house too. Service was great didn't feel rushed, depending on where you are seated you can see into the kitchen, not sure that's a good idea as it is quite distracting to the person trying to talk to you. We will be going back.

Celebrated our golden wedding last night, 11 March 2023, with 24 of our family and friends. The food was outstanding - “best fish and chips we’ve ever had; the flat iron steak was to die for” just a couple of the many complimentary comments we had from everyone. Drew and his team looked after us so well. We still can’t work out how they managed to serve 26 people, all selecting from the full menu on the night, so smoothly. We had a brilliant night and could not recommend the Railway highly enough.
