A real treat! We came as a family, including a six year old, for a nice breakfast out and really enjoyed our meals (including several great gluten free options). The staff were lovely as well!

Found this lovely place while out walking and have come back for another visit. Situated in the old library and looks amazing. There is also a lovely outside terrace where dogs are welcome

Very good place to eat, we were a mixed party of adults and one child. Two adults are vegan, one is veggie and all we're easily accommodated. Good choice of beers too.

Disappointed asked for breakfast but was 5 minutes late but other orders still coming out still waiting for a toastie watching everyone eating their breakfast ????? finished our drinks ?! Still waiting

Service slow waited over 15 mins for coffee 40 minutes later had to ask if breakfast was coming then when served mushrooms beans cold hash brown well done Pancakes served with tinned strawberries !! No fresh fruit pancakes not great either Unfortunately was not impressed yes it was good Friday but we arrived early. Sorry fables but for the money unimpressive

Food was fantastic, lovely atmosphere only slight problem would have ordered another drink once the food come out but waitress didn’t come round soon enough but that could be more to do with how quickly we eat.

and the quality of food, drink and service was exceptional on both occasions. 7 flat whites, 1 mocha, 4 fresh orange, 2 lots of Nutella Berry pancakes, 4 sourdough breakfast sandwiches, 1 Mars brownie, 1 coconut and strawberry cake and 1 carrot caramel and walnut cake slice were devoured over these visits and every bite was delicious! The environment was comfortable and very clean. The staff were all very attentive and polite. The outside area was lovely for warmer weather. 100%recommended

The food quality is impeccable and cannot be beat locally. The new teriyaki chicken artisan sandwich on the menu I could eat for every meal, forever. Yeah it's really that good. The service has come along way in the last year, Fables is now overall the best place to grab breakfast or lunch within a 50 mile radius.

As Australian's, we know our coffee. And this coffee house served us one of the nicest coffees we've drunk, since we arrived in England 2 months ago....oh, and do try a piece of their triple chocolate stuffed cookie pie, OMG, delicious 😋 😍

I had a pancake special, as it's pancake day, and what a dish. 10/10 fully stacked with bacon, sausage and egg and even I couldn't finish my last pancake due to it been so filling. Top marks 👌🏻

First visit after Fables after closed briefly for renovations. The changes are beautiful lovely boothed area now for extra seating lots of changes to displays and suttle changes to crockery and lighting including a great mirror display and a plant ladder on the ceiling. Very lovely ambience. The place was very busy which we expected for a saturday or any day we have have visited before and you can see why. We were seated and served quickly. The new menu looked fantastic and had some interested new dishes added. I'm normally a sucker for their eggs Benedict with smoked salmon but today I tried one of their new dishes which I have to say was one of the tastiest and colourful looking plates I've had I've added pictures below, my dad also tried a new breakfast item of creamy mushrooms which he said was perfect. The kids loved their menu with colouring to keep them entertained. Food arrived promptly and the staff very friendly. Couldn't leave without a piece of my favourite millionaire shortbread. Overall it's my favourite place to eat and so pleased that are back open with a new look which was worth the wait.

Best gluten free scone I've tasted

A really fabulous place with excellent food and great staff. The Festive Afternoon Tea was amazing, especially as I am coeliac and can’t have gluten and also don’t eat meat. My meal was a good as my friends and the choices exceptional. Wonderful. Thank you.

Never disappointed with food every plate that comes out the kitchen is well presented and looks amazing! Cakes are all homemade it’s difficult to choose between them.Their signature cinnamon buns freshly baked every day are devine… thank god I don’t live nearer I’d be the size of a house haha On the odd occasion you can wait a bit longer for your coffee but that’s the only negative! It’s all worth the wait! Jayne and Chris

Beautiful environment all staff were friendly and accommodating with our pushchair. Food was beautiful, not a large menu but definitely quality over quantity. The pancakes were delicious and the sourdough sandwich was so filling. Thanks we can’t wait to come again.

Such a lovely welcoming place. Such a diverse menu with lots to choose from . Today I had the home made leek and potato soup with a cheese scone, and it was delicious.

Honestly don’t know why people rave about this place, it’s on my doorstep so I end up going often in groups etc, but every single time there’s a problem with my order, in fact there’s been one time that I can remember not having to send food back or complain in five years or so. The staff are nice but having worked in restaurants and ran cafes and bars, you get to know the drill, but to have the “chef” come out and look at you after complaining is another level of poor customer service.

V. Busy Bustling Bistro Cafe & Beautiful Decor. Found Menu a bit limited & Disappointed no All Day Breakfast! Breakfast Offering Finished at 11am. Had a Burger; Wedges & Coleslaw Awesome, but weird overload of Mushrooms & Parsley taste to it..not really v. Nice. Generous Portions, Reasonable & v. Personable service but Staff not v. Knowledgeable (although helpful) on Dishes on Offer. Was OK, but not rushing to return.

Fables is what I call a 'proper' cafe, friendly staff, a lovely environment (apart from the tables with benches instead of chairs - we moved when a table with chairs came free and instantly felt more comfortable and relaxed), with a broad menu providing some more interesting choices alongside the regulars like a full English. I had winter root veg with halloumi and eggs. A lot of the roasted veg was burnt and should never have been put in the bowl. I left most of the burnt offerings and gave feedback to the waiter, who said he'd 'tell them'. Given the veg were the base of my dish I might have expected a bit more of a reaction, an apology maybe? Times are tough, customer service is more important than ever. It really matters to train your staff properly to handle feedback, constructive feedback delivered appropriately I might add, from people that have been in the catering/hospitality business and really want you to succeed. Btw the bacon in the other dish was a bit over cooked too and the oat milk flat white, so-so. Please go to Fables it's fab, this feedback is mostly for the cafe in response to their under response but also to encourage people to give constructive feedback where it's appropriate, don't go all automatom and say yes when you're asked if everything is ok and it's not. It doesn't help the establishment to improve and survive in this market. All the best

Came to fables for breakfast for the first time. Was waiting a while but don't let it put you off as its worth the wait! Nice to see a place do so well! Food was amazing, best cooked breakfast and ice coffee had by both of us! 10/10 can't wait to come back

Lovely eggs benedicts with fresh smoked salmon was delicious. My husband had Poached Apple pancakes which were also amazing. Portion sizes are very generous! Great value.

Great choice of cakes and food, ordered hot drinks, cakes and a cake to takeaway. Staff all very busy but they will be if they deliver every thing separately instead of together? Takeaway cake first. Hot drinks a while later and after drinking them I had to go and chase up the scones we ordered to go with the hot drinks. Inbetween all that a staff member came outside to take our order - which I’d gone inside a long time before to place - as I wasn’t sure if it was table service and wasn’t told when we were seated there.

Robin and his merry men never ate this well!! We had delicious cocktails, burgers and slices of cake. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Will definitely be visiting again.

Having visited multiple time we were not disappointed. Had the vegetarian breakfast and it was superb. Really good portions and very high quality ingredients. Often can be difficult to get good breakfasts. Loved it! Service was fantastic as well (Jenny) and the venue itself is really well maintained and lovely to be in.

Stopped at edwinstowe on way to sherwood forest railway and called into fables for a coffee and a scone,we were not disappointed scones very filling and lovely cup of coffee all at a reasonable price,staff very friendly and helpful, I would certainly recommended.

Lovely converted old library with seating outside for dog owners . Some tables have large parasols ( ideal for inclement weather ). Dominic , our server was courteous and very friendly ( advising us of a forty minute wait for food service ), which only turned out to be fifteen minutes. Chose the Ploughman’s Sandwich , a super twist on the conventional ploughman’s - pulled ham hock with salad leaves , tomato’s, cheese and a delicious chutney. Accompanied with a mini pork pie, ramekin of pickle onions, homemade Apple coleslaw , and large seasoned potato wedges . Good value for money and ideal for a lunch time meal . Service was excellent , and managed to get a table as other diners left ( was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon- not sure if booking is judicious, especially if you want to sit inside ). Overall We enjoyed our meal and the service we received.

Pancakes are out of this world, eggs Benedict was very generous with the smoked salmon. Service is very friendly! Wait times are absolutely worth it considering the quality of the food.

I went for lunch with my family, it was busy so we decided to wait and have a drink. We sat outside in nice comfortable outdoor furniture. The Biermats Lager was excellent, with a nice flavor. The Rhubarb and Apples Presse was refreshing and not too sweet. When our table was ready we sat outside. We had Artisan sandwiches, I had Chicken Tikka with Onion Bhaji, mango chutney and Raita in a wrap. It was probably the best wrap I have ever had. Someone had the sweet potato falafel in a sour dough Bread roll with Raita and Mango Chutney, which was really tasty and the sour dough roll was toasted nicely. Someone had the Steak sandwich which was also really good. We all had potato wedges, which were perfect: fluffy on the inside and crispy outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cakes inside also looked wonderful, but we were too full to have any. It was an excellent lunch and we are really pleased we stumbled upon it. I would recommend it

Popped in here after a very wet walk in the forest and just what we needed. The hot chocolate was exceptional, the cinnamon rolls are huge and quite frankly the best pancakes we've ever eaten! If in the area would definitely recommend you come here for a bite to eat. The other food looked good too, wish we had room for more!! P.S. reasonably priced too!

We love it and the kids dig it - amazing place Fables is the place where you wanna hang out . Its the kind off gaff you can sit with yr mum or yr bro. The place sells Beer m Wine n plays Cool Tunes so its Win Win. We went for Breakfast with the kids........Wow. We were all blown away with how happy the service was and how original the style was. These guys get food and food gets you. The kids received a creative art pack on arrival......then went for a pancake with chocolate. Bacon on the side....... the OJ was milestone of life ! The tunes playing on the house system.....wow i thought i was the only one who owned this.........thats how smart these guys are. Been all over the world and this is like a breath of fresh air. Be back soon...

Good food... Nice staff... the hot food we had was good but just not hot enough for me and compounded when served on cold plates... if the hot food was hotter and the plates the hot food was served on were hot..it would be 5 stars

Wonderful place, food and staff. The owners have done a superb job in a short space of time in making this cafe a must visit place even if you're not in the area, because the cakes are delicious.

Came here for a wedding, carl, jess, Michelle and the team were AMAZING. from start to finish they made the special day perfect. Nothing was too much for them. The food was amazing and they catered for me as gluten and dairy intolerant. I can't rave enough about this place.

Looks such a lovely place, great food and drink options. Alas poor service. Arrived and was seated fairly quickly, given menus and then totally ignored. We were ready to order in minutes, appreciate it was busy but an acknowledgment from the waiter as he passed us multiple times to say he’d be with us soon, would have helped. One waitress clearing tables could have taken our order. No acknowledgement as we got up to leave and get our coats on. Customer service training for this situation would be an idea.

Sat outside in the sun in October, but inside is good as well (comfy chairs near books good). Cakes are to die for But watch the mustard mayo. Wow - it clears all nasal passages!

My first visit situated in the heart of Edwinstowe on the High Street. Delightful place with great food and friendly efficient service. It was busy when we visited for lunch but we were still seated quickly. Ideal for coffee & cake or something more substantial. I will be back. Highly recommended.
