Last night, I enjoyed The Archer’s Christmas menu with friends—an experience that was wonderful from beginning to end. The food was of outstanding quality, with a generous portion. The staff’s warmth and attentiveness added a special touch, making our evening truly memorable. For those seeking an affordable yet high-quality meal, I highly recommend The Archer.

I’m shocked by the fact that when the boss is away the place goes down hill, staff busy on phones, portion sizes differing, grubby decor (toilets were filthy), food was tasty but honestly consistency would be better

I had the Chip Shop Special, which consisted of a small, battered fish, scampi, battered sausage twice cooked chips, and mushy peas. The quality of the food was superb and the speed of service was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Visited The Archer today for our works Christmas Lunch and was really impressed. The food was tasty, well cooked, hot and served by wonderful people. It was all fresh with real homemade Yorkshire puds and roast potato’s. So well organised, we were a large party and all got our starters, mains and desserts at the same time. A visit here is highly recommended and I shall return.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Warm and friendly staff. The food was freshly made and piping hot. The service was fast despite it being fairly busy and the food cooked from fresh. Highly recommend.

Went for a bite to eat on Saturday lunch. We both chose fish finger sandwiches at a cost of £16. What arrived was really disappointing. Instead of a sandwich the fish fingers were served on a very dry ciapata. On trying to bite into it the thing it just fell apart. It hadn't been toasted and had no butter. We called the server over and explained that we thought we were getting bread but instead got a dry ciapata. She actually felt what we had been served and agreed that it was so cold that she didn't argue when I said it had probably been frozen and defrosted in the microwave. She asked what we would like and we both said for it to be served on sliced bread. She went in to the kitchen and told them about the problem. Unbelievably she returned with a side plate with 4 slices of bread spread with a day glo spread. I was expecting for the sandwich to be remade not to make it myself at the table. I politely asked for a refund which was given immediately.

I had a Steak and Ale Pie gorgeous loads of meat and gravy. Everything homecooked even the chips which is a novelty now. Definitely recommend lovely place to eat and lovely atmosphere.

With only a few people in at lunch time it took over 40 minutes to receive our two meals. With the curry there was no naan bread or mango chutney, I had to ask and on checking they said they didn't have any. Ok fair enough but why not tell me that before I order. But the Lasagna was a disaster.!! It was burnt and solid, so much so that it was impossible to cut through some of it.!! A complaint was made but the (I assume) manageress said that it was the cheese that had solidified and that's just what happens..!! No offer to replace or refund or any form of compensation. It was just dismissed and ignored. Won't be going there ever again..!!

Awful staff, didn’t take into consideration our family’s needs. Food wasn’t cooked how we asked and got poor service from a blonde lady (don’t know her name). Wouldn’t really recommend

Family visit for Sunday lunch 30th January on my son’s recommendation. The Archer has the appearance of a typical estate pub. Upon entry I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the welcome and the relaxing ambiance. Service was attentive from the outset. We were served generous and very tasty beef, chicken and pork lunches with roast and mashed potatoes, stuffing, three season vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Delicious and filling. Clean plates all round. All for a remarkable £7.95. Fantastic value. Then puddings, encouraged having seen a neighbouring table enjoying theirs. Best spotted dick and custard I have had for many a year. Apparently the other sweets were equally delicious. Thoroughly recommended without any hesitation. Will we be back? Absolutely we will.

What has happened to the food???!!!! We called here last week as we always do when visiting my parents as they love to come here to eat. But the food was not too it’s usual tasty standards or presented with a nice salad Dad always has the fish but the batter was greasy and much too crispy not light as it was before! My pie was nothing like it usually was and was presented completely different! The chips were very dry and bitty like they were left over from the day before. I will be looking for another place to eat for them from now on as when I queried why the food was different and was the chef on holiday I was told the kitchen staff had changed a couple of weeks ago and the original chef had left which is a deep shame as we always loved the food here but not after today

Amazing food and amazing staff. Been a few times here and it is always good. The specials are always exceptional and great value for money. Definitely worth a visit

Not been here since October & cannot believe the difference! We called last week and couldn't believe how busy it was for a Sat afternoon. We took a chance on the Archer for our valentine's meal and we were blown away by the food and the service. We have never had such friendly or attentive service anywhere and the food was worth double what we paid for it. Can't wait for our next visit!

A group of us organised a Christmas Meal. The Archer is quite pleasant surroundings on the outskirts of Rainworth.The quality of the food was quite good..there were very generous portions..the staff were friendly...but the service was poor & badly expedited.Vegetables were left on the table & by the time the plated meal & other additions were brought..the time between each of them, then being all together..It was cold!A shame really as spoilt a much looked forward to evening.Maybe if we had not been such a big party..40 people..they could have coped; but they couldn’t deal with service to a big group..pity really.

We Popped in for quick coffee and decided on bowl of chips which were real chips, not frozen oven, we couldn't help but have cheesecake and ice cream...delicious. I was amazed at cost (£5), asked the lady if she had made a mistake. Service was excellent, so very friendly and welcoming. The decor is a little tired but the warmth, and food makes up for it. Definitely a return visit for a meal on the cards.

The bland fading exterior hides a special place. Food is basic but good quality and great value. Homemade burger and fries are excellent. Service is very friendly. For me, what makes this special is the link the place has with a local college across the road. In fact I think the pub is actually owned by the college, but I may be wrong. Learners from the college help out with the service. This is a fantastic link up both helping out the learners and no doubt keeping the pub operating. Well done all. The learner who served us was fantastic. Well done Jack. You made us laugh out loud as well. Keep it up. We will be back.

This. Is the second time we have been been to The Archer,each time we were me welcome. Nice and clean,food simple but a good menu.good friendly service.will recommend it to my friends and family, and we will be going again soon

We had eaten here a while back and can honestly say the food was "fine" but had heard The Archer had recently closed for a bit of a face lift.

Need to bring back homemade chips! This is what made the archer better than the rest. New menu varied although kids menu has been narrowed.

My husband and myself visit here on a weekly basis, having been closed for five days for a refurb we called in for a meal on it reopening, the decor looks fab and it did look brighter and cleaner. The new menu was better but on receiving our meals we found they had changed to frozen chips which to me is a bad move as this is what made The Archer stand out against other pubs, the meal was very nice and hot and served on a hot plate but the chips spoilt the meal for me didn't eat very many. BRING BACK HOME MADE CHIPS please.

Extremely accommodating staff. The meal was very good for the price we paid and every effort was made by the management to make it a successful evening.

We had the whole pub to ourselves being a sunday evening, including a free pool table (great for the children). Brilliant buffet. Very helpful staff members when setting up the bunting. Our 2nd event here and both times we were very happy.

Food quality generally superb although there might be a wait when busy. Menu generally quite good, tried several things, all of which have been very good.

Just returned from an excellent function at the Archer. The food, service and decor were all excellent. although I haven’t been there since the late 1960s I will be going again and my family are already organising another event there.

We returned this year, after a successful visit last year for our Christmas works meal. I am pleased to say it did not disappoint! In fact it was even better than last year. We had pre-booked and pre-ordered off the Christmas menu, which I think helped us and the staff. The food was really tasty and the portions more than adequate. I left feeling as full as an egg! I cannot thank the manager enough, he was very observant to our needs and we had space between courses at our request, to play party games and generally have a chat. So nice not to feel rushed. I would really recommend the chicken liver pate as a starter (but then I was also envious of the brie), it was absolutely gorgeous and the puddings were scrumptious (and big portions). All of the party commented on how nice the food was. We will be returning again next year!

Decided on a late Sunday lunch and these guys didn’t disappoint. Lovely welcome, nice home cooked food (served till 5), water for the dogs and a decent pint of Guinness. Decent portions at a fair price - even the free kids meal was generous. Good value for money in a friendly setting.

This public house with a difference it caters for families it is run as a sort is teaching environmental place for people with disabilities to train.

We visited this pub whilst staying at Sherwood Pines because it is dog friendly pub (which it is) and had good reviews. In general this is place is for you if you appreciate a pub that sits somewhere between a pub and a transport cafe in an area where you constantly look out of the window to check your car is still there. The carpets are akin to my late Grandmother's dated around 1970's/80's at best with poor decor throughout and toilets I wouldn't let my dog go in. The food can only be described as a microwaved school dinner served by a waiter with an accompanying side of extreme body odour. On a positive note, I had a KFC the other night that was slightly more expensive than this so I guess you get what you pay for.

Okay lets start with the positives..chips were good, chicken burger was okay. Prices are cheap (less than a fiver for a main meal!) Service was fast and polite. It is dog friendly. However, the place is in need of some serious TLC. The decor is terrible and there isn't a great atmosphere. It felt like a run down community hall with a fruit machine, a bar and a dodgy patterned carpet! Yes the food is cheap which I won't complain about but you deffinitly get what you pay for. Would I recommend or revisit? Certainly not.

The Archer is a very good spot to meet business colleagues for a working lunch. It is quiet, light and airy and a nice ambiance for discussing business.The service was friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The food was prepared in their kitchen, with fresh seasonal vegetables and was tasty and good value for money.

The Archer is a really nice local pub. It's food is excellent with a very decent Sunday lunch that's definitely not been pinged in a microwave. I have been assured by the manager that the food is all made fresh and that nowadays is a rarity. Some of the staff come from Landmarks College a Special Educational Needs provision and it's wonderful to see how they are able to achieve employment, are supported by the local community and are able to develop real skills which will allow them to progress. A brilliant pub for a Sunday lunch if you're on the way between Chesterfield and Newark.

Have now eaten twice at the Archer, in very quick succession, and was pleased with both visits.On the first visit, i had the mushroom, cheese and garlic burger, which was incredible. The portobello mushroom more than made up for there being no meat and the garlic elevated it to something way above just being a mushroom on a roll.On the next visit, my guest had the butternut squash, goat cheese and beetroot burger which was really, really good. These are interesting choices as neither of us avoid meat!The staff are all very friendly and really want to make sure that the diners enjoy themselves- kudos to Darren and his team.Next time you are in Rainworth, try and spend some time at the Archer - you will be surprised.

Our three course Christmas meal at The Archer was very tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, giving us enough time between courses to digest the food, but not too long that we were left waiting (this was particularly impressive given that we were a party of 25 people). They were also fantastic with the broad age range of the 9 children in our party. They provided some toys which they enjoyed playing with and there was plenty of space for the younger ones to stretch their legs, whilst the adults chatted and socialised. I would definitely recommend this as a family friendly pub and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Well, what can I say! We contacted The Archer to see if they could fit us in, then changed the number of people coming several times (the group kept getting bigger!). The manager was really accommodating about the date and time (we needed to eat early) and the table was set with Christmas crackers and table top games (a really nice touch). The food was really good quality, with enough choice for all to have their favourite Christmas meal. In the price (which was incredibly reasonable) we had Cava on arrival, a 3 course meal and a top up if we wanted it. I had prawn salad, turkey roast and Christmas pudding. If I wasn't so full after all of this I would have liked to try the red velvet cake and the cheesecake, both looked delicious and my colleagues reported on how nice they were. There was a small team on duty and they were amazing. We were served in a timely, professional manner with real friendliness which was lovely. The waitress was really nice to us, even though some of the party kept forgetting what they had ordered, her smile was sincere and her patience was saintly. The manager was an absolute diamond and was very aware of our needs, keeping an eye on the proceedings in an unobtrusive manner but there in a flash when we wanted anything, all I had to do was look over at him, fabulous customer service. All 20 of the party were very complimentary about the food and the service and we will definitely return for our other work celebrations throughout the year, not just for Christmas. The whole place was spotlessly clean, including the washroom facilities (one constructive point - I like the old style toilets but they could do with some modernisation, although the hand dryer was super efficient). There was ample parking and easy access for those who used a wheelchair in our party. One more positive that I really appreciated, we had plenty of room at each setting so that we did not feel squashed in and there was plenty of space between the tables so that you could move about without fear of disturbing others.

The staff were so attentive to all our individual needs and even though there was 20 of us in our party, they were not fazed in the slightest. They served up a fabulous three course Christmas dinner for an unbelievable price of just £12.95. The pub was lovely and clean, the tables dressed very festively and the staff were super friendly and attentive. I can't recommend this place enough! Well done to the team at The Archer.

Taken over recently and new owners treat it more like a home than a pub. Private parties and closed due to lack of staff as they can't be bothered to work the shift . Chucked a party of 20 out at 9 pm as they wanted to close the pub , not great when customers have taxis booked but are kicked out and struggle to change their arrangements . Menu was changed and not for the better , fish finger sandwich no longer contains fish fingers ? Go fathom . I myself got barred for voicing an opinion , others have been barred for next to noting also . Pub won't survive without customers . . . . . . Landlord not prepared to talk to customers due to working previously in a town centre pub where he didn't need to (his words to a customer) . I'm sure it's working well as a training collage (hence getting funding from that so customers are just a hindrance) but unfortunately it's no longer the village pub where a warm welcome was usually given . Bad times

Return visit, and so good to see the outside has had a well needed facelift.Not only that but the food is wonderful,so much better than our last visit. Only criticism would be the empty tables, set tables would be much more welcoming. Apart from that, go for the lovely food.

Had an early dinner and found the food nice. The menu was the usual pub fare and therein lies the problem. This pub advertised on Facebook so I put a comment that said it was the usual pub fare. Within minutes they had banned me from their page and blocked me from commenting or reviewing via Facebook. Not very fair really. It wasn't a massive criticism but they obviously only want good reviews. Hence, my one star review for being childish. I know they will probably reply to this and will probably deny everything. But remember I can always write another review later.

This pub has obviously been recently renovated, everything was clean and fresh. We ordered chicken and fish. Both meals arrived quickly and were generous servings. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We'd eaten so well, there was no question of having dessert. Will visit again.

Just called in at The Archer and took advantage of the Saturday night deal of two mixed grills for £20, which included a bottle of wine. Generous portion and cooked to perfection. Would recommend highly. Well done to the team at The Archer. Will definitely call in again.

Have eaten here quite a few times now and every meal as been lovely well cooked and presented.The inside of the pub as had a makeover and is welcoming and nice and they do one of the best sunday dinner's your likely to find.Pay the archer a visit you wont be disappointed .

Although the place didn't look like it was open from the outside,don't let this deter you.The staff are friendly and the place has a great ambience.The food is basic pub grub but cooked to perfection.The one thing I would suggest is that the outside be as welcoming as the inside.Looking forward to my next visit.

The Archer has had a pleasant make over and the service was great. The food is not gourmet but is well cooked and served hot with a decent portion size. The service was excellent and every thing was spot on. A very relaxed and pleasant evening for my husband and I and good value for money.

The Archer has recently been taken over by new management, the decor inside is very modern and has brought back a lease of life. The new staff were very friendly and welcoming. Currently there is a limited food menu, but I'm sure in time the menu will develop, but well priced and decent portions.
