what a wonderful place. I do recommended this place to anyone who will love the Albert Street cafe in Barnsley when a friend and I visited. I went to this place back in May 2021 which is 3 years ago where I went there with Chelsea to have a drink where I went to this place during my community session that I went to Albert Street cafe in Barnsley while my Mum is on her 2 night cruise holiday to Gurnsey and when Papa is at my house to look after the animals while I am in school and also I went to Albert Street Cafe back in June 2023 where I went there with Natalie to come to this place to have a drink as well and I liked this cafe so much it reminds me of Morrisons cafe the one in Cortonwood retail park and its my opinion for this cafe in Barnsley. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, so were the owners. The meals and variety were superb with plates full of yummy food. The place was very clean, all the tables were cleaned as someone left. The prices were very reasonable. My mug of tea was quality not cheap and this cafe is not far from the bus station and it is located right where Poundland is in Barnsley and I found it easy to find this cafe as well and hopefully I willl come back to this cafe hopefully sometime soon Highly recommended.

Great if you like weird music, old Goth music is not for me but if you like that sort of thing. The staff are friendly except for the cook. The breakfast to be fair was good but the toast was anaemic. When I mentioned this to the chef I mean cook I got the feeling I had just taken away his chefs Michelin Stars, you know when someone is watching you, Awkward. Anyway the rest was amazing except for the tea, straight from a witches bladder (that Goth trend again) it was weak to say the least, clearly he must share 1 tea bag for multiple cups. I will go back again maybe Halloween when the ambience is better suited.

The worst breakfast we’ve ever had . Wouldn’t even take the bacon or sausage home for the dog . If you don’t want a very poor quality and cold breakfast don’t visit here .

Originally was going to Tilly's (shut Thursdays) so decided to sample the food on offer here. Value pretty good but standard I would say average. Don't expect 5*food at local cafes but the mince was wishy washy. Price of drinks more reasonable than most.

We used to come here often, but unfortunately today will be our last visit. My partners order was incorrect, he politely let a member of staff know, at which point the cook starts kicking off yelling that the order was right and then proceeds to stand behind us loudly badmouthing us, swearing, and he deliberately made us feel uncomfortable while we were eating. Eventually I'd had enough and left without finishing my meal or drink because I felt so uncomfortable with the dirty looks.

My son is a perfectionist for his breakfast of scrambled egg, must not be dry, mushrooms and baked beans; toast of course to mop up bean juice! He was mega happy, as I was with a well filled bacon sani one day and excellent toast on another.

Not been shopping to Barnsley for over a decade and got lost in the morass of redevelopment. I had an hour to kill and went for a walk round and found myself outside the Albert Street cafe. Called in and was really pleasantly surprised - if you want NO FRILLS food and drink -this is the place for you. They have a wide range of food on the menu, but don't expect l'escargot - this is great food for Yorkshire Tykes at great prices. The Cafe is light, airy and fully compliant with Covid restrictions. The staff are quick, efficient and cheery. I really couldn't fault it - I will be shopping in Barnsley again as a result of this fortuitous call.

Whilst I like, eg, Betty's in Harrogate and also the new Yorkshire Sculpture Park restaurant, the Albert Street Cafe is cheap, cheerful and clean - meaning inexpensive, very friendly and very clean (not least during this coronavirus period). The food is simple and very tasty.

Great tasting food and unreal value. Very old fashioned in how things are done, but simple, effective, fills you up, and something that the South doesn’t have anymore. A community feeling coming from the staff and customers. I had a meat pie with chips, gravy and mushy peas for £4.70. Tasty and filling. Mug of tea also . Very popular cafe and I can see why. Wish there were places like this where I come from. Well done, great service, hard working and friendly staff

The Food in here is too quickly done, the seats are a disgrace, the carpet looks like it has been there since the 1800s (and not hooverd since either) The Toilet also is a bit near the Kitchen for my liking. It is a wonder it has'nt been closed down by Publicc Health and how I don't know Though the food is nice i am always dubious of very quick food - as if it is already in place in a Microwave or Cooker and is ready to go in at the drop of an hat or or is on a stove type thing that keep plates warm. I can not complain over the Food, but i think 90% or 95% would agree likewise on this one that food can sometimes be just "too quickly cooked"!

This is a brilliant cafe. Lovely food and really reasonably priced. It isn't posh but it is clean and spacious and the tables are continually being wiped down. The staff are very attentive and friendly. We are not local to Barnsley but on the odd occasion when we visit we always call in for food. Two jacket potatoes with fillings and two teas cost £8 something. On reading the menu signs on the walls I noticed amongst others a pensioner meal stating a choice of between two meals at £4.99 with tea or coffee free and also apple pie and custard free. What more can you ask for ?

what a wonderful place. We were recommended this place when a friend and I visited. We couldn't have visited a nicer place. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, so were the owners. The meals and variety were superb with plates full of yummy food. Even free apple pie and custard with one meal. The place was packed, and no wonder. The place was very clean, all the tables were cleaned as someone left. The prices were very reasonable. My mug of tea was quality te not cheap. We left knowing we were very welcome, and as the owner said, It was a pleasure to have us. My friend and I felt we had met new genuine friends. We left with our bellies full, and a smile on our faces. If only all cafes were like this. Not far from the bus station. Easy to find. just ask someone, Barnsley people are very friendly. Excellent. Highly recommended.

Today I went in to this place while it was very very quiet, the staff were all pottering around obviously not very busy. I had my own 500ml bottle which, because it was a hot day, my children and I had drank it's contents. I asked the first staff member I saw, politely, if she would fill up the bottle. She took it and filled it with tap water as requested, I thanked her then my children and I drank it all straight away. I, again, asked if she would mind refilling my bottle with tap water. This time she snatched the bottle from my hand and walked away saying "I don't believe this!", when she passed the bottle back to me she said, in a nasty tone, "that's it now, no more." I replied with "ok, you don't have to be so nasty about it, if it's too much trouble you should have said no." As I was walking away I could hear a few people laughing and then I heard the lady who had "helped" me say loudly "next time she comes in it'll be no". I turned around and said "It's ok, I won't visit again" she replied with "good because you are barred!

Nice food, friendly atmosphere, in middle of town/shops, convenient to stop off for lunch mid-shopping. Basic decor but clean. Gorgeous lasagne and homemade chips at an affordable price. Will visit again.

The place is scruffy and despite the food being served quickly it has clearly being sitting around all day waiting for an order. I am suprised this place is even open as it is unhygienic and the furniture is white plastic chairs. Would not recommend.

Went to order food. Food never arrived but others orders were coming out quick. Waited half an hour. It was food I'd ordered for baby and unfortunately had to leave because the wait was too long. Walked out quite distressed with a hungry baby.
