Alba Bistro in Edinburgh, City of

The customer service was okay, very simple menu but I have to say that the food wasn't good enough. We ordered a pizza (we thought it was a safe choice) and it looked like a Tesco frozen pizza... I hope they change their menu because they have a good location and it is a nice place

The food is good and the service is excellent. I went there with a big group and they were very efficient at taking the orders, serving quite promptly and allowing each member of the party to pay for their own meal. A very well managed establishment.

Menu is decent, we went for drinks and snacks, since it's on the grass market it makes the place quiet lively and enjoying. Our waiting staff was friendly and kept conversation friendly and short.overall good experience

For family lunch is perfect, on saturday! Kids menu. The haggis with potatoes mash and the chicken puesto was delicius. And gin pink with tonic. Perfect. I would recomend!!

We went there to eat breakfast , we have ordered 2 pancakes and 2 Scottish breakfast. The waiter has brought it all together and dropped the pancakes on my tea . I was all wet , my phone was wet , the pancakes were all wet too. He brought me another tea and said sorry. Pancakes were all wet but he would not bring new ones . We paid for the whole breakfast, they wouldn't even take the wet pancakes off the bill . I left all wet and unhappy! The breakfast was nothing special , not even hot. I do not recommend ! Do not go there !

Worst restaurant, worst experience in Edinburgh. I asked the waitress twice if the salmon was fresh and she confirmed that it was. I received super expired, frozen, old salmon. It tasted like chewing gum!!! I HAD DIARRHEA all night until morning after their stupid food. I paid 18 pounds for a mess! The puree that came as a side dish was a wash! Pigs eat better quality... this food is eaten by dogs in Asia. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! Liars and unserious!!!

We've been here on Christmas in the morning for coffee. The deserts were delicious and quite fresh. We decided to come back for Christmas Dinner. The food was amazing and the portions huge. The staff is really friendly . In general I was glad we found this restaurant. For sure I would recommend it to everyone who visits Edinburgh.

We ordered french toast and pancakes with nutella. And the only good thing was the nutella sachets. The pancakes were dried and french toast was bland. The menu promised a delightful culinary journey, but unfortunately, the execution left much to be desired.

I'm compelled to share our disheartening experience at Alba Bistro during Edinburgh's Fringe Festival in August 2023. What we expected to be a simple visit to get a quick snack for our aunt turned into an unpleasant and demeaning ordeal. My girlfriend and I stopped by Alba Bistro, not for a dining experience, but merely to pick up a quick snack for our aunt staying at the Apex Hotel. Instead of assistance or a basic menu, we faced unexpected rudeness. A Tamil or South Indian staff member, visibly on her break with others near the entrance, openly mocked us. This occurred while we were speaking to a different staff member who was attending to us. Our mere presence and simple inquiry seemed to be a source of entertainment for her and her colleagues. This incident raises serious questions about the training and management of staff at Alba Bistro. It's disconcerting that such behavior is overlooked, especially during a festival that attracts international visitors. Edinburgh is renowned for its hospitality, yet our experience was a stark contrast to this reputation. We left Alba Bistro not only without the snack but with a tainted view of what should have been a straightforward service encounter. It's unfortunate that our lasting memory of Alba Bistro is now one of mockery and disrespect, rather than a pleasant takeaway experience. I sincerely hope management takes note of such incidents to improve their staff training and customer interaction.

Wonderful service and wonderful food. After a long day of traveling, we were searching desperately for a place with a still-open kitchen. We got the soup of the day (lentil) and the chicken kabobs, and everything was delicious, but the chicken was to die for. The service was very kind and quick. I’d absolutely recommend this little bistro.

We went there bc was close to our hostel and I wanted to try the Scottish breakfast. To food was good but nothing super special. The price for the food seems to be fair, the drinks in the other hand in my opinion are too expensive. My friend had the American breakfast and she also liked The food came fast so it seems that things may be pre cooked and just warmed In general I would recommend

Ottimo il salmone affumicato servoto con verdure, servizio rapido, l ambiente niente di che forse un po' shabby. La posizione un po' soffocata dagli altri pub di grassmarket lo penalizza. Si entra solo per mangiare, ma si sta tranquilli.

We are from Arizona in the US and this was the very first restaurant we’ve ever been to in Scotland and it didn’t disappoint! Wonderful experience all around! Had Haggis for the FIRST time and it was delicious! Dani had Carbonara and it was scrumptious too! Highly recommended!

All the food appears to come from frozen boxed food you would find at a supermarket. The guacamole/sour cream on the nachos clearly came from a squeeze grocery store bottle rather than being freshly made. Horrible food.

Inviting Bistro to step in off the street. I had the chai tea and a scone.. both were delicious. The prices are super fair for the area. The staff is friendly and the food comes out quick. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The bathroom was clean. I would recommend this cute little stop.

Sympatyczne miejsce, dobre żeby zjeść słynne fish and chips lub haggis (bardzo polecam!). Trochę tłoczno wewnątrz, ale warto się zatrzymać. Szybko podane, duże porcje. Przemiłe panie z obsługi. Miejsce przyjazne dla rodzin z dziećmi.

After one year living in Edi, I can guarantee that was my worse experience in town. We sat there because it was the only place on Grassmarket with some sitting outside. We ordered some drinks and decided we wanted something to eat. I ordered a chicken burger and I can’t even tell how they can call that a burger when it was literally bred with chicken… The price asked for that was just a huge joke. When we went inside to pay I had to explain 3 times that everyone was paying for what they ordered but the women got mad at me because « that’s what she asked ». Not my fault if she couldn’t understand when we were 2 of us repeating it…

Il cibo era ottimo, il locale forse è un po' troppo piccolo, adatto a tutte le età. Molto accogliente, lo consiglio a tutti sul pranzo. Forse i prezzi sono un po' alti, però in compenso abbiamo mangiato molto bene.

Truly exceptional service. We were walking to an early tour and the city hadn’t opened yet but we were looking for coffee and breakfast before we left. Before they even opened, they welcomed us into the bistro and made sure we were fed before we left. Thank you so much!

Restaurant très basique. Nous y sommes allés par défaut de trouver autre chose d'ouvert à une heure tardive le midi donc en soit pas surpris. La carte est assez large et cela est souvent révélateur d'un restaurant bas de gamme/attrape touristes. Hamburger extrêmement simple et prix classique d'un centre ville, service cependant plutôt rapide et personnel agréable. En résumé ce n'est pas mauvais mais y'a clairement mieux.

Pire hamburger de ma vie, je n avais jamais vu ça : le pain et le steak et c est tout !!! Aucune sauce ni moutarde ni ketchup ni cornichon rien !!! La pizza n était pas terrible non plus, et les pâtes carbonara non plus.

I had pasta carbonara, but the sauce was really dry. Portion was okay. Overall, good and quick customer service. I forgot my umbrella that day and they kept it until I came back the following day so I am really grateful for this.

Came just before 8 on a Tuesday. Fast tasty service. We loved the chicken kebab and steak pie.

The food was insulting they just threw a bad type hamburger (with a strong aftertaste) inside a bun. That's how it was, no sauce, no pickles, no vegetables. Such a thin bun without respect. The waiter did not know how to recommend a local beer. There was no attraction in the price. I don't know why I even chose to go in there. Sorry for the review, I really wanted to be a customer and chose you. You disappointed me

Ich war nun zum zweiten Mal wieder dort und kann es nur empfehlen. Das Fleisch war jedes Mal genau auf den Punkt richtig gebraten und sehr lecker. Das Personal ist freundlich und zuvorkommend. Innen und außen gibt es viele Sitzmöglichkeiten. Auch den "Tea Pot for two" kann ich nur empfehlen. 😍 Ebenso gibt es hier saubere Toiletten.

We found the Alba in 2022. Frequented it often for supper, then returning for a late coffee. Food was always great, varied and they would accommodate your needs. Owners are friendly and staff is attentive. This year was the same with great food and service. It’s in a really neat location in the grass market. Pricing is reasonable. Friendly and reliable establishment.

Undercooked chicken wings. Sent them back. No communication at all from the waiter and he just came back out with another portion that I didn't want. Spoke to one of the waitresses, didn't even try to understand when I was saying, just shrugged and walked away. Chips were mediocre. Not interested at all as to whether enjoyed the meal, or not in my case. Avoid at all costs!!

We enjoyed the food and service here. Breakfast options are mostly the same as a cafe anywhere in central Edinburgh, but delivered in a relaxed atmosphere with courteous service. As a tourist, it's nice to be recognised when entering an eatery. it doesn't often happen in tourist areas. Customers are here one day, and gone the next day, and it can show in the level of service. We didn't find that here, and it was a pleasant surprise. Staff were happy to accommodate my partner's request for a different option during breakfast serving hours. As a bonus, the coffee is better than most - and we've tried a few. If you're in the Grassmarket area, take the time to find this place. We are glad we did.

Had the seafood spaghetti…it was revolting! The seafood was clearly reheated and smelt worryingly pongy. Lemon was poured over it to such an extent that the dish should have been called lemon spaghetti! 🍋🤨 Caesar salad was actually ok, but 13 squids?! Daylight robbery, plain and simple.

Terrible experience. Food took an hour to arrive and was disappointing all around. Salad not fresh, not clean and bitter dressing on the lettuce. Beige Panini that was more of a toasted bread roll with hardly any filling and cold Iceland quality frozen fries on the side. Halloumi kebab was on a stale tortilla that was dry and hard on the edges (like when you leave the packet out for a few days). The only thing that was decent was the Moretti, coke and water! We thought the manager would make an appearance but he couldn’t even be bothered to do that. The icing on the cake was the tourist trap prices. I felt bad for the waiter, he came across as a nice guy. 2/10 at best.

Wir kamen kurz nach 22:00 Uhr, als alle anderen Restaurants schon abwinkten, und bekamen vom sehr freundlichen Service noch grünes Licht für ein Abendessen. Die Bestellung war einfach und schnell, das Essen war sehr gut, besonders die Pizzen fanden unsere Kinder top. Leckere Drinks, schnelle Lieferung der Speisen, faire Preise, es stimmte alles, allerdings ist es keine „haute cuisine“, eher gehobenes Mittelmaß, aber wir fühlten uns hier sehr willkommen und wohl - das hat ja auch einen Wert! Eine sehe gute Wahl am Grassmarket.

Food was alright for the price, don’t recommend the scones at all. We waited ages to be served and 35 mins for the food (nothing that would take very long to prepare) to come.

The full English breakfast was the only decent dish we got because you can't really go too wrong with it. The double decker rolls were plain and the scones were hard and dry. It took 45min to get our food after asking about what was happening. The service staff seemed uninterested. We only went here because other spots nearby were full.

Awful experience. Waited 70 minutes for food. In that time, two separate tables, waiting a similar amount of time, requested an update on their order 1 hour in, and their order was immediately brought to them, indicating the staff simply forgot about each order. When the food came, there was a bug in the salad. The waiter replaced the salad, but not the sandwich, and we had to send the order back. Manager forgot to take the price of this item off our bill, which we needed to remind her of.

This is hands down the best place on the Grassmarket! The menu is so varied that you'll have difficulty deciding what to order! We had a table of four and all of us ordered something different and every dish was so tasty! We really only went in for a drink and even though they were filling up, they offered us a table and we loved it so much we wound up staying for dinner. The staff was so welcoming and just super fun, unlike the other places we had visited on the Grassmarket. The only regret was that we did not visit this place on our first night because we would not have wasted our time anywhere else. Thanks so much!

Ordered calamari for starter 35min nothing on top of that everything came with the mains which was Angus burger and salmon salad both are disappointed, no dressing on salad no taste at all for the burger omg , bun was so old and dry also like rat eat one part of it dark pate with nothing else few frozen fries on side and some leafs in plate this thing cost 13 pound well your choice but for me was bad experience and last visit surely!

Lamb Kebob was delicious. Very well seasoned/marinated. Juicy. Ice cream was good too. They have tea pots for the tea which is nice.
