Akash Restaurant in Horsham

We booked a table here as the reviews rated this as the best Indian restaurant in Horsham. The food was well presented and tasted good, however, it lacked the wow factor that I was expecting. Being Saturday evening, the restaurant was full, so the service was rather slow. If you like a relaxed service over several hours this place will suit you.

This was our first time at the Akash and it certainly won't be the last. Got there at 6.40 pm to find the place more than half full ( Thursday evening ). All six of us thought the food was fantastic, good portions and reasonably priced. Service was excellent. By the time we left the restaurant was virtually full. We are from Haywards Heath so Horsham is a bit of a mission by train but well worth it. Big thanks to the Akash for a lovely meal.

Always a favourite for us. The flavours are spot on, perfectly balanced with a great selection... being Asian myself, its a joy to find somewhere local that hits the mark. The service is always friendly, genuine and attentive.

Four of us had dinner at the Akash last night, and have to say it was the best curry we’ve had in a long time, and we’ve been to many curry houses round Horsham and surrounding areas. The food was superb, tasty, full of flavours and served to perfection. Presented well and generous portions. The staff were very friendly and provided a fantastic service with smiles. The curries had good portions of meat/seafood and delicious sauces. The starters were amazing and very generously sized. Highly recommend! 10/10.

After a previous outstanding review of this place a couple of years ago, it is with regret I have to say things how gone down hill on the take away front anyway! Order arrived cold and dishes were not what they said on the outside, meat also really chewy. V disappointed therefore that will be the last time we order from here unfortunately.

Went out for dinner with 5 friends and I can honestly say this is one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had! The food was absolutely delicious. We over ordered and so I took some of it home dinner the next night. Yummy! I will definitely be back again very soon!

I visited this restaurant in 2022 and thought it was extremely good. I have recently moved to Horsham and after trying a couple other venues in town thought I would return to Akash. I can only say that it is still exceptional, the staff and service are 10/10. The food is quite simply wonderful. Give this gem a try, you will not be disappointed

Party of five for a family celebration. We had five starters and five main courses, along with rice, Nan breads and sides. All aspects of our meal was served in good time, well presented and hot. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My chilli king prawns, to start, were especially delicious. All the staff were polite and respectful.

One of the best Indian dinners I’ve ever had. Such good tasting food and very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere to have dinner in.

A friend and I visited the Akash recently and had a brilliant experience. It was a busy evening, but we’d been pre warned that our booking was for 2 hours (we were quite an early sitting). When we arrived they told us that if we wanted to stay longer we could and they were super accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. We shared a mixed starter, and then ordered the king prawn tandoori and a goan chicken curry with some sides. The flavours were insane, maybe one of the best Indian meals we’d ever had. The waiting staff were so attentive, making sure we had everything we needed for a lovely evening. Honestly I do think it is the best Indian restaurant in the local area. This is by far the best curry house in Horsham. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly. The Supreme Noor is a firm favourite and they can turn the heat down abit if you want your Balti not quite as hot!

My husband and I, decided to try it, it was packed and we booked quite a few days before. We were sat by the busy bar, which people kept standing by our table to pick up their takeaway. We ordered our drinks, I ordered a rose, which was horrible, my husband ordered vodka coke. We asked for tap water for the table, we never got the water, I asked for a replacement drink which wasn’t any better. But decided not to keep asking. We waited about an hour for our food. We had butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and our rices and a naan bread, which was tiny. We had our food which was not up to expectations, we were left disappointed. We decided after that we would get bill and leave. Won’t be going back again.

Visited last week with friends, best curry restaurant in town. Always rely on a good quality meal here. You cannot go wrong with the butter chicken or Schaslic supreme! It’s rather expensive but everything is now, hey ho you get what you pay for.

Fabulous friendly staff, accommodating, keen to help. Interesting dishes that aren't the "usual". We have struggled to find food that isn't bland and boring, and finally were happy! Thank you Akash for some lovely flavours and an interesting menu. We'll be back!

I've tried a couple different indians places in Horsham as I newly moved to as Covid hit. I've got to say by far Akash serves the best quality food. The staff are incredibly helpful and well mannered and their customer service is amazing considering it was New Years Eve they managed to deliver on time and to a very high standard. I am definitely looking forward for a night out here in the future.

The restaurant had worked hard to comply with COVID regulations, and they have done an excellent job. They have reduced the number of tables and have also introduced a delivery service.This is a very family oriented restaurant and they always provide a warm welcome for all. I had Chilli Lamb for starters and a Desi Lamb for main. Both were cooked really nice and both were tasty. The family members also had really nice enjoyable food. The service was good and all the staff are friendly and always happy to chat. This is the best curry restaurant in the Horsham area.

I've been a regular at Akash for about the last 10 years. Usually I'm there solo, sometimes with friends. The food and service has always been great, friendly & welcoming. When I'm there solo, to have more variety I usually order more dishes than I can comfortably eat in one sitting, they're always happy to pack up whatever's left for me to take away. In these Lockdown Days they've started Delivery (which I've not used) and have set up for nicely socially distanced Take-away / Pick-up. Had Chicken Jalfrezi, Pilao Rice, Bombay Aloo (Potato), Chana Masalla from them just recently - awesome. Only problem was to not drool all over myself on the drive home ! 100% recommended.

Never used the restaurant before. Based on the good reviews on Trip Advisor decided to try it for delivery. (Good on them for expanding their service to include delivery while closed for dine in and take out).That said, the food was very disappointing. Of the three main course chicken dishes, the chicken was dry and bland in each case. The chicken itself seemed unseasoned and overcooked then added to a generic sauce with perhaps some etxra heat added. The Chicken Tikka Masala (or Mossalla as it is on the menu) was unappetisingly bright red and seemed to be a coloured version of the Chicken Korma. The chicken vindaloo was OK, but again, the chicken was dry and bland. Naan breads were good and fresh, and the mushrrom rice was unremakable. It is relativey expensive which adds to the dissappointment but even at a lower cost I would not use again or be able to recommend.

During these difficult times the Akash team have started home deliveries for the first time. The food arrived on time, delivered with a smile, and was still as good as it always is. We will be using the delivery service again.

My wife and I heard that Akash were now doing deliveries and we were absolutely amazed and excited to get a home delivery! Delivery was on time and the food was delicious! I’ve not been to Akash before but went after a movie (at the Everyman which also a good experience).. I always thought the outside looked a little uninviting but I was happy to try it out... Food is wonderful , each curry has that authentic taste, and we have tried a few! The service is exceptional from all staff. Anytime I take a friend or family member they end up going back ( sometimes without me !!!) . The take away service is just as good. we have eaten at the Akash for many year's,we live locally and always said it's the best, in the area, about 6/8 month's ago we had a meal there, and the service was very slow, the papadom's were stale, the rice was old, over all not good, but we said to each other, that's unusual for the Akash, and we came back, well what can i say other than terrible....we were greeted in the usual pleasant way, and showed to our table,we ordered our drink's, and some papadom's, they were chewy, and stale, the Raitha was very watery, then our main was delivered to the table. i ordered a lamb Desi, a spicy lamb curry in a rich spicy sauce,with whole green chillies, it was'nt spicy, there was'nt any green chillie's in it at all, not one, it was like a beef stew, the mushroom rice was dry and old, my husband ordered a continental Balti, that was nice, but the pilaf rice was bry and old, like it had been cooked day's ago, kept in the fridge and reheated, in there defence, the waiter came over and asked how's our meal, and i said my curry is very bland, its ment to be a spicy lamb Desi, and he said he could take it to the kitchen and spice it up for me, but i said no, i didnt want my food messed about with when i had half of it on my plate,its a shame, but we wont be eating there again, in our opinion, they have gone from excellent, to very, very poor.

I have visited the Akash many times over the years. As times change and new restaurants open there is so much more choice but the one thing that remains constant is the quality of food and warm welcome whatever the occasion.

My friend assured me that this was the best place to get Indian food in Horsham but I left not entirely sure that he was right. The service was pleasant and the food was tasty but my meal wasn't exactly what I ordered and as I was chatting and eating I got about halfway through before realising, so didn't moan. It was still nice, just not what I ordered. At the end of the evening the bill was added up incorrectly so much in our favour that we pointed out the mistake and paid the proper price. Overall a pleasant evening but not spectacular. I like table cloths and perhaps something to keep the food hot on the table but these were not present. Just needs a few refinements to get top marks from me. Polite staff and quite busy for a midweek day so expect they will be okay without a return visit from me.

Started well with drinks delivered quickly after ordered, and ordered popadums at the same time as the drinks from the first waiter. Popadums hadn’t arrived after about 15 minutes so asked if they were on the way and got an apology from waiter number 1 and popadums arrived shortly after. Later ordered a second beer from waiter number 2 and waited about 15 minutes with no joy. Advised waiter number 2 that I had ordered a beer and he said “yes it’s on the way” but clearly it wasn’t - with nobody doing anything behind the bar.

I have been to many Indian restaurants around Horsham, including the New curry centre, rajkumar, etc and this has got to be one of the most amazing Indian restaurants I have dined in! I have also heard lots of good things about this restaurant as they have catered for one of my friends parties and the food was so delicious that I wanted to dine in!

As indian food lover decided to try one of the best rated Indian places. Went there on Saturday evening so was quite busy. Food was great but. Service was a little bit too much - 6 check backs - seems like every single staff member was coming one by one to ask how is our food. I appreciate your concern but let me to chew my food!

Having had such incredible Curry’s in the past I’m generally disappointed but really like Akash. We ordered takeaway and it was the lovely service that encouraged me to write a review. Looked a great vibe in the restaurant as well. I thought my chicken was a bit odd (and always sceptical of how fresh) but it was such a tasty, “authentic” curry and as close to a Pathia as I’ve had in a long time. Having said that my idea of a Pathia is just what I first had.

I ate here tonight whilst away on business. I always eat Indian food whilst away on business (40 nights/year) and also cook it from scratch at home. I was warmly welcomed and shown to my table. I started with poppadoms and the pickle tray. My main was Chicken Bengal with a plain nan and Dhal. I asked if the Dhal was Deshi style and was told yes. It wasn’t. Deshi style is home style cooking. The flavour was good and not westernised but there was zero chilli heat which is traditional. The chicken Bombay was disappointing. There was a good amount of chicken but there was no depth of flavour. Overall very average. Good service throughout but the food was not great.

My first time here - took some friends from France & USA - had such a great meal. Spice levels were exactly right, and the flavours were perfect. My unexpected outstanding dish was the side dish brinjal bhaji (not what you’d expect like an onion bhaji; it was still caramelised onion/veg but the texture was spoonable). Could eat several bowls of it, for sure. Also unexpectedly wonderful was the raw onion with the pickles for the poppadums. Mild and flavourful; didn’t linger on the breath.

As always this is arguably the best Indian Restaurant in Horsham - the staff are always so helpful and polite. The food is exceptional, good portion size and great value for money.

Having pre-booked for a party of 10 we were very disappointed to receive such shabby treatment. It took about half an hour for poppadoms to arrive then finally, literally just short of 2 hours after our arrival the main course arrived. There was no apology or explanation until just before the food appeared which is just plain rude. They did take some money off the bill but it really didn’t make up for it. The food was ok. Restaurants should surely be prepared to be busy on Saturday night .

I've been to Darchini and New Curry Centre and both were as good as Akash, but Akash is closer so we go there more as a family. They normally manage to fit us in early doors without booking, even on weekends. 9yo and 7yo are treated kindly and the chicken tikka is very nice and tender, they love it. Rice portions are sensible sized unlike some restaurants that give you massive bowls of it to fill you up. They managed to cope with a friend that is coeliac/on a gluten free diet with no issues. Plenty of attention so extra drinks and requirements are taken care of quickly. Have been in as part of a large group and they coped well with ordering and split payments.

My husband and I went to Akash last month as we were staying in nearby Rusper and TripAdvisor had them as no.1 in that area for Indian food and they had been around for decades according to their web page. We thought we'd give it a try even though the prices were a bit steep, central London prices. We're willing to pay as long as we get good quality food, which was not the case in this instance. The food was just tasteless and small portioned, we didn't get any sauces or salads with our 2 starters as per normal in all the other Indian restaurants that we had gone to. The waiter wouldn't even leave our sizzler dish at the table but transferred the contents to our plates. Did they only have the one sizzler dish? Curries were bland and the rice was old, at least a few days old, I know as I cook rice a few times a week at home and know the difference between freshly made rice and that which had been refrigerated for several days. Really disappointed with Akash and TripAdvisor and feel sorry for the people of Horsham if this is the best Indian food that they can expect around there.

Twelve of us went for a double birthday celebration. The food and the service were excellent. A very enjoyable evening.

We’ve been going to the Akash for almost twenty years and Dil and Mash continue to deliver. Last night’s curry was excellent as usual. The atmosphere convivial and a really warm environment. The service wasn’t rapid, but the restaurant was rammed and lots of takeaways were going out as well. Whenever you ask for anything they always give their best and the lamb bhunanlast night was melt in the mouth - special, for my wife’s birthday. You can’t go wrong at the Akash and if you fancy being creative just ask and they will advise and recommend.
