Very disappointing indeed! My family love this place. Was planning a visit for a while. Finally found the time to pay a visit, we checked out the website and times of closing. I constantly tried to call the number on the website . (at least 6times) any way we still decided to visit, as it said 6pm on website we started our journey ( 60 mile round trip) Was very excited when we arrived, walked inside, there was a few people at tables, the band practicing, a lady, blonde hair not sure of she was host or waitress ignored us for a few minutes, I went over and asked if we could get some drinks, she said sharply we are closing at 3pm today, was quite shocked and replied, oh website advised 6pm (time now a little after 3pm) she snapped back, NOT TODAY, the manners and attitude threw me a little.(she seemed under pressure and short tempered)I tried to explain, it would ne good for potential customers making a long journey to visit, if you kept the website updated or at least answer the phone. There's a right way & wrong way to speak to people, she was very rude indeed. Has we was leaving, a member of the band asked what was wrong, I told him what had happened. Okay, I get private function was on that day, but even after all that, it's how you treat people, Some times ITS NOT WHAT YOU SAY, ITS HOW YOU SAY IT!!

Looking at some of the reviews I almost didn’t come, but I’m definitely glad I did. The Ackee & Saltfish was absolutely amazing, the rice and beans that came with it were also very tasty; and OMFG the dumplings, I’d eat them on their own by the plateful. The jerk chicken is also very very nice, the chicken literally fell off the bone! The children’s box means are great as well, the colouring book is actually the bag that the food comes in. The chicken nuggets are very tasted, can tell they’re cut from chicken breast and not just frozen rubbish. The staff are friendly and the outdoor area is brilliant, really nice place. It is a little dark inside the restaurant but that just adds to the authentic feel. It’s a brilliant place I’ll definitely be returning.

We took our 7 year old granddaughter for lunch. The concept is good, the animal sculptures are great. The food? I ordered two chicken and bacon wraps and a child's menu fish fingers and chips. After correcting the chap on the till from two chicken tikka wraps to chicken and bacon, and waiting a reasonable 15 minutes, what did we get, barely warm chicken tikka ! Didn't think it was worth correcting it and getting a bored 7 year old to wait, we ate the chicken tikka wraps.

My son and I recently visited Akamba Heritage Centre. We arrived early, not realising that the animal part didn't open until later. So while we were waiting we thought we'd treat ourselves to a drink and cake. As soon as we walked in to the "restaurant" we noticed 2 things..... It was dark and there was a funny smell. We immediately said to each other that we would sit outside as neither of us wanted to be in there any longer than we had to. It was that dark that I struggled to see the coins in my purse when paying. We ordered and the lady helpfully offered to bring our order out to us, that was appreciated. I was also impressed with the variety of milk on offer, my son can't have cows milk and this usually means that he can't have a hot drink. Here, he ordered a hot chocolate made with soya milk, he could have had hazelnut milk, almond, coconut and others. Well done to them on this. We both enjoyed our drinks but weren't impressed with the cake, they tasted a bit stale, so we left them half eaten. While sitting outside, we were surrounded by numerous wasps. A lady who worked there walked past and laughed and said they do have a big problem with wasps and they usually burn something to keep them at bay, but it wouldn't be lit until later on. I wasn't sure what to make of this, you can't really blame them for the wasps. All in all, it wasn't an enjoyable experience and we won't be visiting again. But thank you for having soya milk, it made a refreshing change.

We regularly visit Akamba and the Tribe restaurant with friends and family for the great atmosphere it provides as well as the great service that we have regularly received in Tribe from Ashleigh. From the first time that we visited, Ashleigh was friendly and chatty. She is also very helpful and efficient (we often have visited as large groups as well as smaller ones) We love the relaxed atmosphere and the overall vibe. It is great outdoors in the summer and lovely, warm and cosy in the winter. Akamba and the Tribe restaurant is definately one on its own and worth a visit. Suitable for solos, couples, families and groups.

Have been here many times, for food and just for coffee and cake. The food is delicious, a good portion in size and reasonably priced. The whole decor and atmosphere makes you think you are somewhere else in the world, even in the winter; it is such a relaxing experience. The restaurant itself is comfortable and warm. The gardens are lush greenery, all year round, with plenty of shelter and unsheltered seating areas. They offer the facilities for parties’ and have regular ticketed evenings with entertainment. The staff are always very helpful and make you feel welcome, whatever time of day you are there. In the summer, it is just like being on holiday somewhere tropical. Love visiting this place.

Went to Akamba recently with a group for a birthday party, we paid £28 a ticket this was inclusive of entertainment and a meal, the meal was appalling for what we paid a plate full of rice and a very very small portion of curry to go on top, you then had to help yourself to dessert, the entertainment was a DJ who was ok but we were expecting from the advertisement a live singer as well which there was,nt, we all made the most of it and did have a laugh but value for money NO. .

Breakfast served 9-11, we opted for full English which was about £6.80 which include tea/coffee, toast. cooked breakfast and juice. Great place to relax, lovely and warm, prompt service and food piping hot. Great choice of tables to sit on and not cramped. Perfect place to take the children or a big family meal as some tables were very large. A choice to sit at a table or on a couch area but beware a low table to eat on not that this bothered us. Low-level background music to add to the abience. Breakfast huge, possibly not the best products available but great value and I am surprised it wasn't full! Definitely worth a try.

First time visit after recommendation and whilst we enjoyed the metal work/ gardens and general feel of the place, food and service were very average. On an advisory note we went during a lunch sitting so no live band which I'm sure would have made for a great evenings entertainment and I'm assuming this would be the main draw. General feel was great and menu had a good choice of mostly Caribbean food; service though was poor, all staff were very young and presumably inexperienced as drinks were brought out in dribs and drabs and we had to ask twice where they were. Food was also delayed coming out which considering the restaurant wasn't that busy was frustrating. To make matters worse full menu wasn't available and staff let slip that reason was that food was made elsewhere and brought in and delivery hadn't come in yet! I had the Caribbean platter which was fine. Baked fish was nice, as was curried goat, chicken and dumplings were tad dry, portion size was good. I would go back as I'd like to see what the evening entertainment is like and sample the atmosphere, I just wouldn't be in a rush to do so.

We had a large family birthday pre booked, we arrived to not enough places set for us and very little room to move. This created problems in our group all night. The food was very basic. Watery and not a lot of flavour. I was really disappointed with the food. I will never spend my money here again which is a real shame as i went here when it first opened and the buffet style food was just lovely, it seems the more popular the venue the less time they have put into the food. The choice of Rose wine was also poor. Very cheap wine which cost a fortune. The floor is very uneven so be very careful when you walk to the toilet, speaking of the toilet, it was a real state. dirty and smelly, not nice at all. I then decided to show friends of mine the outside which is a real showstopper, however it was closed off. There were 2 tables available outside and people were sat on those. Everything that represents Akamba was shut off, a real shame and considering i paid 30 quid to go there i felt i was ripped off, the only saving grace was the band. Fantastic band, great music, tiny dancefloor tho..... No room to dance......

The whole place is very different, a fantastic sensual experience, African music, metal zoo figures and cosy seating areas outside and an atmospheric inside restaurant. Food was good I could rate it 4 but the whole centre didn't feel loved, it is a really good concept but needs an overhaul, I nearly poked my eye out on the tatty thatched umbrellas, the garden centre plants most looked fresh and healthy but the walkways were full of weeds and just needed passion back in the business. I don't know how long it has been open but ready for some TLC to give it a 'lift' .With the meal , starters and main course all came out together! I won't rush back but I bet the speciality nights are good fun.

Went with a group of friends on a first time visit to Akamba. What a fantastic place to spend time at. We visited the tropical house and bird walk before venturing further. The £4.00 entrance fee was worth every penny and more. Friendly experienced and helpful staff who let us hold various reptiles and with great knowledge, explained about the habitat and life of these animals in the wild. We then explored the garden centre (free of charge) here we found a wide variety of palms and exotic plants laid out in such a way that it feels as if you are in the African jungle. To top our visit off we enjoyed a wonderful meal sitting outdoors in the shade of the overhanging palm trees. The food was superb and reasonably priced served by yet again friendly and attentive staff.A really enjoyable day was had by the whole group and we are already planning return visits with our families. A great "well done" to all at Akamba.

I have been to South Africa and Kenya and this place reminded by me of the 'Boma' eating places they have there. It is based on the jungle - loads of animal (not real - pity) and then you enter the restaurant - perfect. We had a selection of Africian dishes all on one platter - so tasty. The only trouble was getting a drink there was only one person serving.

My daughter and I visited during half-term. There is a well-stocked gift shop selling African gifts of varying prices and the plants on sale are displayed very well.We had lunch in the Tribe restaurant. My jacket potato was well presented and delicious. My daughter was pleased with her Caribbean chicken wrap. Both were reasonably priced. After lunch we paid £3 each to visit the reptile area. The staff member was friendly and very knowledgeable about the animals and we were able to hold some of them. We both enjoyed this area. You can also pay to see the exotic birds. We then returned to Tribe for coffee and cake. It had obviously got busier since lunch and despite hearing complaints of slow service, the girl behind the counter did well. Coffee was served in takeaway cups, but there is a sign explaining this due to their insurance policy. It would be nice to see the milk in an insulated flask as opposed to an open jug.We had a nice afternoon despite the weather and both agreed we would visit again. For those with young children, there is a sandpit play area.

The experience was excellent as it transported us to Africa as soon as you drive to the car park. The decor was really nice and very Kenyan, but the food was Caribbean. There was confusion on how to order your food or drinks. We enjoyed what we could order but it was disappointing because there isn't anything Kenyan about it. Nor was there a choice of vegetarian meals. On the other hand I enjoyed the overall garden experience and the bird walk. There are some beautiful plants there as well. It's the strangest place ever right in the centre of the countryside of Solihull. I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I arrived with all the metal African animals dotted here and there. It's a garden centre but I didn't buy a single plant because I was completely waylaid. We went to visit the exotic birds which was delightful, just sitting around on benches watching beautiful tropical birds fly by, they are obviously so used to be surrounded by people that they were utterly unfazed but it all.The visit to the reptile house was without doubt the highlight of the day. The staff there were beyond kind and generous of their time allowing our children to freely handle a myriad of reptiles, a truly joyous experience all round. We dined at the onsite restaurant. It is designed to be atmospheric and authentic so that you feel you are on safari. The menus is exciting and fun to explore.Staff seem genuinely pleased that you are there. It is somewhat dark in there which I understand but that's what lost it a star for me, I found it rather gloomy struggling to see the people that were sitting at the opposite end of the table to me.There are masses and masses of places to sit and enjoy a drink or something to eat or simply to enjoy the exotic plants and the birds that roam freely. My grandchildren had a wonderful day there

We visited on a Saturday afternoon. The venue is lovely and feels very authentic. It's quite dark and very hot and there are paraffin lamps lit on the bar. There are fans overhead to regulate the temperature a little. It feels like you're on holiday! The food was yummy but not exactly mind blowing. I had the Curried Goat which was extremely tender and very delicate. It came with rice and roasted vegetables as it was a very substantial meal. Other members of our party had the African Chicken and Jerk Chicken and they all got gobbled up.The drinks are a little confusing. There is a section of "Exotic Drinks", each one is £6 but the menu doesn't say if they are fruit juice or alcoholic cocktails, it simply lists the name of the drink. My sister and I expected an alcoholic drink but I'm not sure we got one.The meals are nice but very delicate in flavour. Don't expect to have your senses exploded. It's nice to visit for the novelty value but I don't think we would return specifically to eat.

The food was excellent and arrived quickly, albeit it wasn't busy when we visited early on a Saturday lunchtime - it did pick up later on though! Only recommendation for improvement is that they offer some of the Caribbean and African options in children's portions, with a little bit less spice. My sister would've liked the children to try the house specialties but instead they had to have fish fingers and chips. Oh - excellent desserts and coffees as well by the way, and I haven't even started on the bird walk and tropical house... All in all, fantastic!

Stumbled over this place by accident. It looked very interesting from outside with massive animals like elephants, giraffes and zebras lining the street outside. Inside was just as exciting. We walked around the small garden center first. It was set up quite exotic - again with different "metal" animals everywhere and African music playing in the background. Plant wise not a lot of choice mostly palm trees of different sorts and fairly expensive. There is a small reptile and bird center there, which was fairly cheap to enter, but we did not go in as I dislike reptiles! we went to the restaurant instead for a coffee. The place was set up like an African hut although quite large. Again soothing African music played in the background. We had a latte and some jerk chips each. Both fairly cheap. The lady who served us was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. She also gave us a lot of information about the place such as late opening times for meals and their Saturday night music/meal deals. Very interesting place. There is also a small gift shop but the staff member there seemed very un-interested.

This Concept is good but the management of the restaurant is embarrassing.Once again a good idea that a disgraces. If only if the owner of this restaurant new how much more money the would make if the running of the restaurant was on point. For instant the kenyan manager that was there when i visited was disorganised. I felt sad for the young waiters who were all confused and trying to apologies well what do you expect if the Head of the restaurant is running the place in such a poor state. The restaurant markets itself to have an African theme ,where does the Caribbean fusion theme come from.Keep the menu simple and stop trying to impress far.As a kenyan person taking my English friend there it was disappointing not even Choma was on offer on the menu or any of the authentic African food i know off. For the food it was disappointing no Flavor even for the so called Caribbean dished.once again stop doing to much, do the Kenyan African dished am sure if the only concentrated on the Kenyan dished it would see much more customer. When i vited were 12 people and for the food served on paid for six seem like thats always the case waste of business.Advise get rid of the old management, New menu and stick to one theme the African theme maybe choma meals and side dishes , and am sure this restaurant will become some thing great.

The restaurant is full of artifacts, dimly lit and a nice feel to it, we were greeted very warmly and imeadiately felt comfortable in our very different surroundings. Our drinks order was taken straight away...we were happy. As it was a Saturday afternoon there weren't a lot of staff on duty, note we were a party of 14, after a while our orders were taken....at this stage we did find our wait to be rather long....but in all fairness when our meal was ready to be served it all came out together and was piping hot...10-10. I had previously visited and decided that it would be an ideal venue for our ladies group midsummer night meal. The party was 53 ladies for a three course meal and visit to the garden center and shop. We arrived at 7.10pm our meal was planned for 7.30 the meal wasn't ready till 8.pm the tables were not correctly set up one table had to be added, one table was very unsteady and had to be replaced. ladies had to be moved so that they were not sitting with friends, when the food was finally served it took so long one lady just got her food when everyone else had finished.Fresh fruit salad was serve with no cream when it arrived everyone had finished.Tea and coffee was not served til 10.15 I had to remind the staff that our coach was picking us up at 10.30.The ladies were very disappointed that they never got to visit the shop, this event was planned very carefully by myself and their representative I hoped the evening would be memorable as some ladies had never been before, well it was but for the wrong reasons.Akamba is obviously not geared up to cope with large parties as their staffing levels are not adequate. What is most disappointing is that I have had no response, no apologies I've just been ignored by Akamba regarding these issues, we spent over £1000. on this event. I will not be recommending them to any other ladies groups.

The soft music and smell took us miles away from England. The food was very good and catered for all tastes, everyone enjoyed although we were a little apprehensive at first, the waiters and waitresses explained the dishes in detail and the wine we chose was an added pleasure. Myself and two friends went to visit Alanna as we had heard it was good and we weren't disappointed. The impressive entrance leads you in to another world. We walked around the garden centre and visited the bird walk before going to lunch in what I can only describe as like being in Nairobi. The restaurant had retro tribal charm as it is very heavily African themed decor. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, I had butternut squash curry with lovely fluffy rice and the tastiest roast veg I've had in ages. Would definitely go again. It's nice and flat to walk round so its good for families with children and older or less mobile people, plenty of opportunities to have a sit down. We will go back when the beach is open. Can't wait to see that! Fabulous. I look forward to returning.

Quite hard to find but worth it! The garden is beautiful, they have an indoor/outdoor restaurant, handmade animal/tribe sculptures (what you can buy), cocktails and brilliant cakes. The whole atmosphere is like you are in a different country.

The adverts in the local newspaper state something along the lines of "no other place like it" and having now visited, I think that is certainly a fair claim. The owner's passion and energy is visible throughout and we were certainly impressed. The food was good and the range of teas and coffees also interesting.I would have given 5 stars but the staff training in a couple of areas let it down - fairly disinterested staff with little warmth about them - the shop assistant was outside the shop on her mobile phone and we were evidently an unwelcome intrusion when we went in. I was also surprised to see that Solihull Council have given Akamba a 1 star (Major Improvement Necessary) food hygiene rating in 2016 - to be fair, our food was very tasty, but the low score would probably put me off returning as it suggests not all is right behind the scenes.

A garden centre that's simply 'out of this world'. A must visit. They have exotic plants and while you're there, have a Swahili coffee and a nice piece of cake.

The garden centre itself is fairly limited in comparison to places like Melbics or Dobys but really they are not trying to achieve the same things. This is a little taste of Africa selling exotic looking trees, grasses and plants and metal animals. The metal animals are really nicely made and most appear to be life-sized (or near enough) so good luck in taking home a giraffe in the back of your hatchback! There is a 'beach' for the little ones, but the main attraction for me (as usual) was the resteraunt. This appears to be in the style of an African lodge (haven't been to the real thing so guessing here). There is African music and the décor is rustic but well done. The food was great - we had the Caribbean platter (a nice mixture of jerk chicken, goat curry, rice and peas, dumpling, potatoes and mashed sweet potato) as we couldn't decide on a single dish. Really nice. Both the Kenyan coffee and Kenyan chai tea were good too.I would certainly go back, especially if I can get someone else to drive so I can sample the varied rums. Price was cheaper than expected also.

We were quite excited to try out this Caribbean / African restaurant, but a bit disappointed on the day. We went for an early lunch and they were out of Jamaican soda and out of dumplings. We had to queue for quite a while. The Jamaican jerk chips that we finally settled on were nice and got increasingly spicy as you got nearer the bottom of the dish. This may be a better deal in the evenings or when there is a show on.

We visited last Tuesday (hottest day of the year, so far!) it was great to sit outside in the lovely grounds with the palm trees and metal sculptures just lovely! we ordered the jerk chicken with came with rice, carrots and roasters! We also ordered a ham and cheese panini, both arrived with 15 minutes, and apart from the dry chicken the meals were ok!! The best part for me was the "three large" Havana Club Rum and cokes at just five pounds per drink, Great!! Will return and revisit soon!!

The weather was wonderful and the staff a credit to Akamba, we loved the exotic birds couldn't believe how friendly they were and packed with plants. Went to Akamba for our first Saturday night visit and have to say we had a brilliant night out. The singing group 'Midnight Soul Singers' we're excellent. There was limbo dancing during the interval where guests were invited to participate. The staff were great and really looked after you.The outside area is so relaxing, Palm trees, plants, metal sculptured animals of all sizes and a sand playing area for the very young. We got lucky with the weather and able to enjoy both the outside and inside.Drinks were reasonably priced and the food was very good.Prices are around £28 a ticket, but that includes the two course meal and the night's entertainment.Definitely worth a visit, I wholly recommend it and will definitely go again soon.

In general a nice relaxing environment to dine in with friends and family. We attended yesterday and it was rather packed with a lack of staff to handle the amount of people. Would have thought extra staff would be on standby due to it being a bank holiday so they were seriously unprepared. The Guinness punch was amazing especially with the rum mixed nice touchbest to give this place a try on a quieter day or you will be seriously disappointed as I was as yesterday was my first time attending. But as they say everyone deserves a second chance so will give it another try at a quieter period.

Had my husbands surprise 50th birthday get together on a Sunday afternoon . All went brilliantly well as Akamba put all the tables together for nearly 50 people. Food was fabulous and served all within good timing for such a large group. Personalised photo wine bottles for the table were a great addition. Everyone really enjoyed it and as the sun shining we got to sit out near the sandpit area for some drinks and birthday cake. Thank you especially for Joy in taking all my set up details over the phone and a massive thank you to Marie on the day - you were so helpful and lots of people in my group have commented how exceptional your customer service skills are. Thank you Akamba for making my husbands 50th so special.

An entirely different experience to any of the local restaurants. Loved the jungle themed exterior with a surprising large number of tables. I can see this being very popular on warm sunny days but wonder how it feels in winter. You can sit inside but when we visited it felt colder inside than out. the decor is wild and appealing. The menu is a selection of African and Caribbean inspired dishes. I had the platter so a bit of everything it seemed, giving an idea of the flavours on offer. Loved it. The jerk chicken had bite, the fish came in a sweet treacly sauce that we very tasty. The goat curry was spicy and the dumpling was sweet. All very filling and just the job.It was lunchtime midweek and fairly quiet when we went. Service was a little slow - like a Malibu advert. So if you are in a hurry it may not suit but if you want to take your time and relax, then you'll like it. They do lots of music evening and I get the feeling that this is the sort of place that at the weeked could be a great place to hang out with a bunch of mates. Eat and work your way through the drinks menu. I think you'll go home happy.During the day time, great place to take young children. Lots to look at.We enjoyed our visit and will return. I have visited this place on many occasions over the past few years and it never ceases to amaze me. It's a taste of Africa in a location you'd never expect. An ideal tropical and tranquil maze of earthy cultural delights for all ages to explore. Every time I visit I feel like I've been on holiday so always leave feeling happy and relaxed. The atmosphere is exciting, inspiring, laid back and wonderfully calming. The staff are always polite, helpful and friendly. The food I've indulged in has been varied and tasty whether it be African/Caribbean/English. The dining room decor is a serious sight to behold, artistically fabulous, educational, authentic and leaves most folks saying 'wow' ... This is an awesome place. If you want an African inspired day out without the cost of travelling to Africa (smile) Akamba is the place to go - and they have a gift shop too. They also have special live music nights on a regular basis. Awesome. If you've never been to Akamba be prepared to be blown away on arrival.Hats off and a massive salute to the owner.

Brought a friend along from London for lunch. It can be difficult to find but was worth the effort on our previous visit. Loads of full sized metal animal sculptures around and a real flavour of Africa. The restaurant is the most authentic African environment we have experienced in the UK. On entering it was around half full and we were told to pick a table and the menus would be with us soon. We sat and waited. After 10 minutes we went and got them ourselves. The menu has a selection of Caribbean dishes and English favourites and kids meals. After a further 10 minutes or so of waiting, we eavesdropped on an adjacent table who had managed to attract a waiter. They were complaining that they had already waited over an hour without any sign of food or drink arriving. We just looked at each other and as it was already nearly 2:00 o'clock, we got up and left. Nobody was there to ask us why. A great shame; it is absolutely unique, but if they can't serve food to your table it's just a curiosity.

This was my partners idea for a Sunday lunch out as we both fancied something different to our typical pub carvery. I did laugh when he said were off to a garden centre for Sunday lunch, but I enjoy trying something different and was happy to go. The restaurant wasn't disappointing, we both Liked it as soon as we entered. A good atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon and the interior definitely had the carribean feel I'd hoped for. The food and drink were both reasonably priced ( deffinetly not over priced ). We had a selection platter that was the dearest thing on the menu and that was still only £15 with a good selection of carribean style foods. We were stuffed and definetly couldn't of ate anything else. They do wraps and jacket potatoes if your after something simple or cheaper.I just liked it here as it was something different. Wel be going back for one of there nights with entertainment. I'd say it's definitely worth a try if your after something with a carribean feel. All the staff nice and happy to help at all times too.

First visit. Nice decorations and set up with african art/textiles. Food variety was interesting - plenty on the plate but was average and a bit overpriced. We went in early Feb for lunch and the main room was cold and heating inadequate with space heater/blowers. Wrap up warm if visiting on cold nights. Think a visit on a summer evening with barbeque and band playing may be much better experience and good value. So we'll try going on warm day when a band is on !

Very nice environment, decorated with african art and textiles. The food was average and overpriced but if there'd been a band playing or entertainment (there's a stage and sometimes live music) It would probably have been worth the extra. Our main criticism was as our party went in January, the room was bitterly cold, the decorative blankets on the backs of the chairs came in useful and we gathered around a space heater between courses. I had on a jacket and a coat and they stayed on for the whole evening. So - be warned, wrap up warm!. On a warmer night with a band playing i expect the experience would have been fantastic! We were the only group in there on the night so they closed up as we left plunging the car park into darkness making it impossible to dodge the pot-hole puddles!

We went in a group of twenty for possible the worst dining experience of my live. Here's the lowdown: Terrible/disorganised service, freezing cold, two hour wait, poor communication, gave food to the wrong take, nasty beer (Tusker) and awful food. The best thing that they did was let us leave without paying a thing. The concept is cool but the execution was a joke.

Whilst waiting to establish how to order , we were told to sit down and they would be over to take our order. No one came, so we grabbed a passing boy for a menu. At 11.30 he gave us a breakfast menu, but breakfast ended at 11. We then got a lunch menu. There must have only been two menus as he whisked it away from our hands, to another table. We ordered at 11:50 and then we it approached the 50 minute mark, we approached the manager in charge, and said do you know it's been 50 minutes and no meal has arrived. To our astonishment, he said yes!!!! The restaurant was not busy, and had already had a table complain, and one table walk out. We walked out eventually , and simply gave up. If you wish to charge the prices you do, service is kind of necessary . The wait staff seemed clueless and had no urgency of speed /service. They comp'd our tea/coffee, but that was after about ten minutes explaining to the waitress, the manager had comp'd them. The setting is idyllic and wonderful. They need a massive training exercise in customer service and speed, as most of the 'terrible reviews' refer to. We won't return, we won't recommend. However there was a great steak place down the road, that seated us, fed us with two courses and drinks cheaper than akamba within a more reasonable time frame.

We had a lovely night out, group of 10-12 girls for a works do. It was my first visit & I as we arrived in pretty heavy rain I found the car park a bit of a struggle in heels as it was very uneven and badly lit. I thought the atmosphere on entering was lovely & will definitely return with the kids during the daytime to sample the lovely atmosphere. It was a bit chilly indoors, but we danced all night to the wonderful band so it wasnt an issue for long. I had the sweet and sour fish & it was lovely, but some in our party were disappointed with their food. I did try both other options, the curry was very bland but the jerk chicken was nice, not too spicy. Dessert was divine! Overall a very enjoyable night out, my feet were in bits I barely sat down the music was great and the limbo act very impressive!

We booked Akamba for a group of 14 for a 30th birthday get together with friends. A few of us had eaten here before but this was around 2 years ago, since then the restaurant has become more well known. On arrival we bounced through the badly lit pot holed car park and waited inside for everyone to arrive. We were seated on a large table near the toilets which was facing away from what looked like the only heater in the building. Being sat on this table meant everyone was freezing cold, this is not an exaggeration! We finally ordered after 30 minutes which wasn't the easiest but we did manage. We then waited, laughed about how cold the toilets were (you could see your breath), took it in turns warming up by the gas heater and had a couple of rounds of drinks. After aprox 1 hour we asked the waiter when to expect some food, everyone was cold and hungry. The initial response was loosely blamed on another large party turning up late however starters will come out in 5 minutes. We waited 15 minutes and nothing had arrived, this resulted in a complimentary round of drinks to win us over (it didn't). We asked for starters and mains to come all at once but all we got after waiting over 90 minutes was a few starters. Another 15 minutes and we got some sides of chips, corn on the cob and luke warm onion rings but no mains. It was well over 2 hours and multiple complaints to the staff before the food came out which was of poor quality. Everyone was cold, hungry and fed up by this time so we complained once again and all left without eating the mains. It's really unfortunate that I have to write this review because it should have been a 30th birthday to remember. All we left with was frost bite, empty stomachs and serious disappointment.

We had heard conflicting reviews so thought we'd give it a try. We booked a table for 4 on their Motown tribute night at £30 per head. we were instructed to arrive between 6 & 7We arrived in the very bad car park full of muddy puddles so we dodged our way to the entrance past spectacular life-size model elephants, gorilla and Zebra. we were grilled by security and had our bags checked and then verbally threatened that we should not have our own drinks which we did not!) We were then instructed to pay in the souvenir shop. We then were pointed to the function room. it was so amazing so many details to make it look like a scene from Africa, even the waiting staff were dressed in African smocks. All the draught beer was not being served and so we had to buy bottles and we also had Prossecco at £22 a bottle. the spirits were £5 for a single plus the cost of your mixers. Very expensive! The food was served almost immediately and we were given a choice of 4 options. African chicken curry, Jerk chicken, Salt fish or butternut curry. The food wasn't too bad , the butternut squash curry was a little too spicy! Dessert had to be collected from the bar and was a choice of 3 cakes, all were ok but not the greatest. We were then in limbo, no entertainment and watching other tables arrive and have their food. our table was left covered in empty plates and bottles for long length of time as there was only 2 waiting staff, who had to take orders, serve them and also clear tables- which proved not to be enough for the room size. The bar staff were slow and waiting time at the bar was lengthy. We ordered Mojito but as had no mint we were recommended an African Mojito. After 20 minutes after paying for the cocktail and it still had not arrived we chased its where about. it was not made (perhaps it was still enroute from Africa?) we were given a small tumbler with a stick in it! we were then told we were not to drink it for another 5 minutes as we had to wait for the honey to dissolve!!???????? So 35 minutes after paying for the drink we had to mash the limes in the drink and yeuk!!!!! it was vile!!! at 9pm, nearly 3 hours after our arrival the band came on. they were great, the male singer was superb as were the rest of the band. they had a small break where a limbo artiste entertained us and then the band returned playing all the great Motown music. 11pm the light came back on and the music finished.Don't think we will return of an evening as it was very costly and not really woth what we spent

Not an ordinary garden centre, although they do sell plants! We went for lunch with my parents. This place blows your mind as you are greeted by African sounds and African statues. Take a walk around as it will be like nothing you have seen.We went for lunch and had sandwiches which were good quality. The menu has a more Caribbean feel than African and the service is very very slow. So don't plan to eat if you are in a rush. 4 sandwiches took around 45 minutes to arrive at the table. This isn't the 1st time we have eaten here and we experienced similar a few months back. However it is such a nice environment we didn't mind waiting. The people next to us did and left due to the difficulty getting served at the bar where you order food & drink. This issue could easily be solved by having waiting staff take your order at the table.

We were staying in the Travelodge over the road and as it was chucking it down we decided a quick scamper to Kismet would be sensible. I’m glad we did as we really enjoyed the food and service. We chose king prawn with garlic and chilli, tandoori lamb chop, then meat thali and duck bhuna. All of the food was well presented, tasted great and was very filling. We ended up leaving some as the portion size was a bit much for us.
