Afternoon Tea at The Montague on The Gardens in Camden

Hôtel was beautiful. The garden terrace was gorgeous and inviting. My mother and I enjoyed are afternoon tea experience. Although I do say that the value for the price is lacking. A bit overpriced. The service wasn’t on point as they did not check back with us for a long while. The service fee wasn’t well earned.

While this is a beautiful space, the presentation was great, and the service was friendly, however, the quality of the food was extremely below par. For £60 I expect way more than soggy squished sandwiches and stale desserts that taste canned. Sadly I won’t be back and would recommend afternoon tea elsewhere.

Beautiful tea room, excellent service and the scones were good (we had only a cream tea). My only negative point is that there is no way to take out the tea leaves from the tea pot. So by the time we have a first cup and pour a second cup the tea is too much infused and difficult to drink.

Everything about this place was lovely! The staff were very attentive and wanted us to have an enjoyable experience.

I loved it! After visiting the British Museum we accidentally found this wonderful place! Very friendly service, very tasty and interesting tea! I liked the most chocolate spice! Very good sandwiches and cupcakes:) Very canfortable atmosphere✨

Little spot we found inside a hotel that was quaint and chic with an older style. Lovely people and atmosphere inside. We sat on the covered terrace that is actually indoors but all windows. The teas and treats were great and well worth the price. Great customer service. Very clean bathrooms. We went at 1:00 and it wasn’t crowded. It felt like we were in a private session. They also took us in early.

The food was great and the setting in the greenhouse was peaceful on a rainy afternoon. The sparkling wine and tea were delicious.

Decided to go big or go home my last day and upgraded to the bottomless tea service, as Lanson is my favorite champagne - and the house champagne at the Montague. The food was very good. The service was excellent. My glass was never empty. and someone was always available to bring additional food items if they were requsted. I would have tea here again if given the opportunity.

Fun experience! Worth the experience. I got the hi-tea set and I loved the food! Lovely service that went above and beyond.

Very bad experience. Do not go here, you're better off to a standard chain. Stale hard-like-rock scones, unfriendly staff... I literally had to bang the scone against the table for them to bring fresh warm scones. These folks here are clueless and will take you for fools if you're not paying attention. First, they couldn't find the reservation after they asked me several times for it, for the name, how it was spelled, only so after being seated to hear them whispering "these are the ones without reservation". Also we got seated down in a little room, and not at the garden as reserved. They don't even bring you the full menu... they have their own agenda - asked for the cream tea (which was possible, but not presented as an option).

Went for afternoon tea in April 2023. It was my wife's first time doing afternoon tea, and this place probably has spoiled her forever on it. Nice quiet garden room atmosphere, robust selection of teas (all of the ones I tried were amazing), and a nice assortment of bites to eat. Service was amazing.

Absolutely overpriced, afternoon tea, and no refills. To give you the idea of overcharge - real food worth 5 pounds vs charged 55 pounds per person.

Everything was excellent. Our waitress India was very friendly and caring. The reception and butlers were nice as well . Definitely will be coming back👍

Went here for afternoon tea while visiting London with the family. The tea & food was good. They did a nice job accommodating my son's food allergies. Unfortunately the service was not good at all. Initially the staff seemed helpful. However after we received our tea and food, we never saw a staff member again until we were ready to pay. We were told we would be able to order unlimited tea & food but we never had the chance as we were ignored for over an hour. We never even received the still water we had asked for at the beginning of the service. Overall, we were made to feel unwelcome and unworthy. It was quite expensive. I do not recommend anyone else pay £55 a person to be made to feel like you aren't good enough for the Montague.

Eine gehobene Adresse für unseren Afternoon Tea im Wintergarten des Hauses. Das Personal war äußerst höflich und bediente uns stilvoll. Die Produkte waren köstlich und von hoher Qualität und Handwerkskunst. Obwohl der Kellner unsere Sorten für die Scones korrekt und sorgfältig notierte, kam es hier leider zu einem kleinen Fehler bei der Zusammenstellung. Dieser wurde aber umgehend und äußerst kulant behoben, so dass wir uns rundum wohlgefühlt haben.

I loved our visit here for afternoon tea. I booked a table for my missus and I for her birthday and was looking for a good spot near the dominion theatre that was close enough to walk. The staff were very welcoming and in my opinion, treated us like royalty. We felt important from the moment we arrived. We were seated in the lobby which was decorated tastefully vintage and then shown to our table in a segregated area of the tearooms. The fresh earl grey tea for a start was the best we've ever tasted and we're considering buying a tea infuser and the leaves they used to replicate at home. Food was served in regular intervals and was very tasteful. Didn't know a cucumber sandwich could be so tasty. The selection of these and cakes was the great. Lots to try. We thought we'd be hungry afterwards, but we had to take some home in a box. The vibe was relaxed, we could see the gardens through the window behind us we had an all round pleasant afternoon. Nous nous sommes rendues au Montague pour le tea Time et avons pris un afternoon tea. L’endroit était très joli, cosy et calme. L’afternoon tea était très bon, les sandwichs, les pâtisseries ainsi que les scons. Le service était digne de l’endroit, nous avons été parfaitement accueillies, les serveurs nous ont très bien expliquées la contenance de l’AT, nous ont bien conseillé sur les thés, le tout, couronné de beaux et accueillant sourires et gentillesse. Si nous revenons à Londres, nous n’hésiterons pas à revenir au Montague!

Went for the afternoon tea on the gorgeous outdoor terrace. Very friendly staff and the service was amazing. The food was satisfactory. There was a good selection of tea to choose from. In general, great experience, a little pricy, but would recommend if you prefer a chill and quieter place for afternoon tea.

I have tried many gluten free afternoon teas in the past but this has to be one of the best ones i've had. My food was exactly the same as my mum's normal afternoon tea so I didn't feel like I was missing out. We had a selection of finger sandwiches to start (we don't like salmon but staff were happy to accommodate and provide a different filling to replace it), x2 scones each (the best gluten free scones EVER) and a selection of little cakes/patisseries too. We were also provided with boxes to take out leftovers away as we were so full we couldn't eat it all! We also had free refillable teas and tried the Chocolate tea and Assam, both were really good! Finally, the staff were also attentive, polite and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend going here for afternoon tea, I can't wait to come again! Thank you so much!

Everything about this afternoon tea was great. The staff were really welcoming and attentive, the food was delicious, and we could get unlimited refills even with our 25% discounted afternoon tea. We stayed there for about 2.5 hours! It was great value, and really lovely - I would definitely go back.

not so impressed. we came for Afternoon tea. the food and deserts were dried out, but scones were great. the menu said Traditional afternoon tea £49 PER PERSON but you can share 1 afternoon tea for 2 person. no need to order each person. this is kinda trick. we couldn’t eat all for 2 person’s afternoon tea and asked takeaway. there were super small scones in the box, no fruits on the tart which much difference at the restaurant…

This afternoon tea concept is good. There atmosphere is very good price is 20/49 many options and choices Nice ambiance, good decore. Their presentation is also good. Vegan options available. But we went their, we took a tea and everything. General they refill sandwiches, and they bring also it was complementary and they put on table, and other lady comes and she took everything back. That was insulting. So be careful and firstly confirmed everything and then ordered So disappointed with some of themselves behavior.

This tea service was insanely overpriced and poor in quality. For £113 my husband and I got 3 tiny strips of sandwich each (flavorless and the bread was soggy), 2 tiny over baked scones each, and 5 tiny pastries to split and our tea. No refills. The chairs were uncomfortable and the space cramped. We left hungry and frustrated we’d spent so much money for so little.

Scones and tea were good. Desserts and sandwiches were meh. Pretty setting, nice staff. Not sure it is worth the price.

Enjoyable afternoon tea with complementary refills. I was alone and the amount of food was more than enough. Flavours were nice and they offer vegetarian and vegan options.

I had confirmed reservation on the garden and they said we don't have and I know they are lie due to I saw the place!! Liar staff with customers!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea in the garden room. The meal was excellent and the service was attentive. We really appreciated that it was all you can eat because the scones with clotted cream and jam were so good we had to go back for seconds and then thirds!

Man darf auf der Terrasse kein Getränk zu sich nehmen weil angeblich alle Plätze für den Nachmittagstee reserviert sind obwohl nur vereinzelt Tische besetzt waren. Das gleiche war schon gestern. Als Hotelgast kommt man sich da gefrotzelt vor. Ich bin wirklich verärgert darüber.

One of the tastiest scones I've eaten

This is the worst afternoon tea we ever experienced. The scones and cakes are the worst. You can get better one in anywhere else. We were extremely disappointed, and we discourage anyone to book the afternoon tea from this place.

I booked afternoon tea as a mother's day gift, paid £45 for two guests, with an email confirming as such. We turn up, all the staff were lovely, but the food was all bite size, and not massively flavoursome. However, for £45 for two it was alright. That was until I was told I had infact only paid for the one afternoon tea, and that I had a balance of £45, (and additional for water), remaining. It states no where on the website that you are only paying for one afternoon tea, nor does it state in the confirmation email or reminder email you receive the day before. A staff member even mentioned that they've had to explain this to other customers and yet nothing has clearly changed! Don't advertise as £45 without EXPLICITLY stating that 1. It's per person 2. There will be additional afternoon teas to be paid, for the second guest. It ruined the whole experience, I've paid a lot less in the past and got way more for my money.

We had the pleasure of afternoon tea yesterday and considered the experience quite wonderful. Beautifully presented and delicious food in lovely surroundings. The staff were delightful and a credit to the Montague on the Gardens. Can't wait to return !

Waitress was very inexperienced. Mixed up all the teas we ordered and gave us wrong information about our order. No refill, if not all order high noon even for kids. Then charged us extra for tea. For four small scones you for 20£ extra. Overall also too expensive for some OK sandwiches. Cannot recommend.

The sandwiches didn’t seem that fresh, like they had been pre-made and sat in a fridge for a while. However the scones, cakes and tea were delightful. I also loved the funky leopard decor!

I took my 16 year old daughter to London and made reservations for afternoon tea. (Book early, every place fills up fast). Although this was not my first choice I was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. We had a sweet server who walked us through the proper tea etiquette. The food was delicious and we were able to order a few different teas. The cost was 98 £ each.

Our first afternoon tea. Friendly and attentive staff. Great classic tea. Had red herbal infusion. The three of us got the room in the winter Gardenroute ourselves.

Quality of food was okay but the tea they were serving and had offered us were tasty especially my favorite earl grey. On top of that, they refill the food if you want more without extra charges as well as the tea.

Afternoon tea booked as a treat, was shown to a small room and not the conservatory as on the website - table small and cramped, china old and cutlery equally not pristine. Staff friendly and food arrived quickly - however sandwiches had come out of the fridge and where cold, and vegetarian and meat where mixed together. The conservatory was opened up as it got crowded but frankly for the price the Ritz would have been a grander occasion for only slightly more money.

It's enough nice if the price is reasonable. For me, the quality and price are not much, as small terrace, old facilities, average service, etc....

This was my favourite afternoon tea that I've had so far. Such helpful, friendly, and polite staff, food was very good, and you can try different kinds of tea and have more of any of the food that you like. Great time spent in a beautiful atmosphere!

Went for a hen party. The food was great—they bring more of whatever you want. The place was really accommodating with the decorations we put up and made the event easy and special. Would recommend for a group event or just a fun day out!

Had a lovely, delicious vegan afternoon tea. The service was impeccable and we did not feel rushed at all. The tea room was bright and beautiful and the atmosphere relaxed. My friend, who had a regular, non-vegan experience loved it too. Reasonably priced and you were able to request extra portions of food, free of charge, although the initial portions are all that you need. I made an advanced reservation and wrote in the comment that we would need one vegan meal. Overall, very happy with our selection.

Para ser justos, la comida estaba bien (aunque los bocadillos estaban un poco rancios) y el servicio era suficiente ya que trajeron la comida a nuestra mesa. Sin embargo, seamos honestos, no paga 40 libras por un par de sándwiches, bollos y algunos pasteles. Afternoon Tea trata sobre la experiencia, se supone que debe sentirse un poco elegante y glamorosa. Es difícil sentirse cuando te ves obligado a sentarte en mesas bajas donde tienes que agacharte para comer y no tienes donde poner las piernas, se escucha música pop común y ruidosa en los parlantes y tienes que hacer malabarismos con tu taza porque la etiqueta colocada en la mesa pequeña deja espacio para poco más. Oh yes, this is the spot for tea. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather. The service was impeccable, as was the food. They offered Twinnings loose leaf and it was spot on. We were regretful upon doing this that we hadn’t stayed in this lovely place. 10/10, would do again.

My wife and daughter really wanted to experience a formal English Tea, so having gone to the Montague for dinner earlier in the week we decided to go there for Tea.We were seated in a beautiful atrium, and served finger sandwiches, scones, and a series of desserts along with our choice of teas (of course). The best afternoon tea experience in UK. I was looking for a place to enjoy my last afternoon tea before I leave UK and I found this place with excellent reviews. It was Wednesday afternoon a little after 3pm, no reservation. I was by myself. They welcomed me and took me to the outside seat where very quiet and nicely setup with flowers. They brought me samples of loose tea leaves for me to try before deciding which tea I liked. I picked apple elderflower infusion tea with traditional afternoon set. The tea was so flavorful and spot on. All the food was delicious. Scones were one of the best I've had mango mousse was amazing. The service was exceptional and I was treated like someone very important. I highly recommend this place for anyone.

First English afternoon tea experience. I learnt the use of hour glass to indicate brewing times of different tea. Black for my English tea, green for my wife's fruit favoured tea.

My kids really wanted to have afternoon tea during our quick trip to London, but on the day we had it scheduled we were running late and called in a panic to see if they could still accommodate us -- the staff was so gracious and accommodating! They were very patient with our rather un-proper NYC kids, explaining about different teas and options, and made our first proper British tea so much fun. The space is lovely, and the tea and treats were all delicious. A great experience!

Came here for afternoon tea on the terrace with a group of friends as part of a hen do, the atmosphere was lovely - very relaxed and quiet. We all seemed to enjoy the food a lot too - I enjoyed the sandwiches the most. I'm not sure I'd come again for tea unless it was on the terrance, the indoor area seemed a bit too dark.

We engulfed in the scones and tea one afternoon at the Montague. The scones were good and came with ample toppings: butter, jam, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce!

I haven't had tea many places, but this certainly seemed like a wonderful example. The tea choices were clearly explained and the treats were delicious. This was a very good way to spend a rainy afternoon.

The food are nice and match the topic of afternoon tea. The range of tea and the taste are great. However, the chairs are putting too close even it is very comfortable. Moreover, I won’t go very often because the food have quite high calories.

Exquisitos pasteles y pasteles para acompañar los bollos y sándwiches. Buena selección de tés. Gran servicio en un entorno teriffic, no puedo recomendar esto lo suficiente. La rodaja de terciopelo rojo y el macarrón eran especialmente deliciosos, el chef de repostería es claramente muy hábil y el cantinero mezcló un magnífico cóctel de "leopardo". La atención al detalle es evidente y hace que esta sea una experiencia muy agradable.
