One of the highlights of dining at Holborn Dining Room is the restaurant's famous pie room, where guests can indulge in a mouthwatering array of savory pies, each handcrafted to perfection. Whether you opt for the classic steak and ale pie or the more adventurous venison and red wine pie, you're sure to be impressed by the quality and flavor of these delectable creations.

Food The beef wellington was delicious. It was first said to be 38 pounds but the waiter came back and told us it was 48 pounds. The beef wellingtons came with three potatoes. These were hard as a rock. I couldn't cut them without risking them being catapulted to other guests. We tried to moisten them with the gravy, but these were taken away before we had the chance to do so. I ordered red wine. It was delicious but I have to guess if it was the one I chose. No one showed me the bottle. Service When we entered and stood in front of the reception, we were more or less ignored. No one took our coats. After waiting at the bar and ordering a drink we were guided to our table. We were happy with our appointed seats but the waitress made it seem like we got the bad ones by saying "are you sure you are OK with these seats? Really?" This made us question our choice and think that there might be something wrong with them. The staff was overall friendly. 5 different people helped us which made things a but more difficult for them and us. We could see numerous little incidents (e.g. asked if we wanted something while the check was on the table and we were waiting to pay, one of our coats was forgotten when we left, etc). Atmosphere Beautiful place to sit.

From the point we came in everything was quite chaotic. We were pretty much ignored for a bit, our jackets were not asked to hang in the clothing room while we were standing there. The bottle of wine was not shown as it was poured outside sight. We were put at a nice spot where we were asked multiple times if we were sure about the table, which made us question if we were put in a bad spot. It killed the relaxed vibe. The menu or recommendations for welly wednesday were not explained properly. Beef Wellington was delicious but for a top tier price of 48 pounds we did not expect dry, rock hard potatoes and some garnish veggies or salad at least. Gravy was taken before I finished it. There were so many staff switches that it was unpersonal. For a restaurant with these high prices AND a involuntary 15% tip (which we were definitely not planning to pay for this lacking service) we did not expect the service of a pub. After the check was on the table we got asked by yet anoter waiter if we wanted to order any coffee of dessert. It was very sweet dat we got a complementary dessert for our anniversary. But I have to admit that was the only reason I did not get angry. Very, very disappointed. I felt scammed honestly. Quality comes with a price if the quality is there...

An exceptional chicken pot pie. However, the prices of the drinks are very high, and the wait as well (reservation at 8 p.m. and we ordered at 9 p.m.). Unfortunately the fries are frozen. In short, not crazy value for money, but a chicken pie that is worth the detour.

Great venue with a fantastic bar. Gin cocktails are the specialty however this place is great for lunch or an early meal. The service can be a bit patchy. On a quiet Friday afternoon the staff were a bit disorganised and mildly distracted. Menu is traditional and the portions are a bit small for the prices. However, the ingredients are fresh and there is an interesting selection of meat, chicken and vegetable pies (another specialty).

The Holborn Pie Room is a must-visit for pie lovers and gin enthusiasts alike. The pies are generously filled, perfectly baked, and utterly delicious. The chicken and mushroom pie was worth every penny of the £30 price tag, with tender chunks of chicken, creamy sauce, and flaky pastry. The gin selection was impressive, with over 350 different gins to choose from, ranging from classic London dry to exotic botanicals. The service was good, with friendly and attentive staff who were happy to offer recommendations and advice. The Holborn Pie Room is a cosy and charming place to enjoy a hearty meal and a refreshing drink. Highly recommended.

Came here for a date night, much anticipated as I’ve wanted to try the pie and place for a while, I came years ago so was keen to come back. It’s a beautiful restaurant and service was good but I really feel £40 for a pie is way overpriced especially when our beef and Stilton (very tasty) wasn’t that big and wasn’t filled to bursting and maybe a bit brown for my liking and you have to pay for all sides. First time having a hot pork pie (again very tasty) and broccoli (outstanding). The chocolate pudding was incredible. Cocktails very good and nice but pricy wine-list. Classy spot good food but in my opinion overpriced. Can get equally as good pies elsewhere for much less.

Been there for valentines dinner with my husband and our female friends. Environment: Combining reclaimed oak, red leather banquettes, and antique copper-topped bar. The lighting is just great for a romantic dinner, and the ambiance is top-notch. Food: Roasted Orkney scallops, rabbit and pistachio pâté en croute, and grilled tiger prawns were the dishes that were ordered for starter. Although they are all delicious, my particular favorite is the tiger prawn. As a main course, we shared sirloin steak, a shrimp burger, and steamed stone bass. My favorite dish is the shrimp burger, which consists of a crispy shrimp patty that complements the avocado puree. Although the portion may not appear excessively large, it does in fact leave you quite full; we have not even completed the chips that we ordered with the main course, and we are all bloated. Service: The entire staff that attended to our needs was exceptionally cordial; in fact, one member engaged in a brief conversation with me while guiding me to the restroom. There was only one thing that greatly dissatisfied us: Despite requesting a sofa seat twice and being informed by the staff member that all tables were reserved, we observed that, from 17:00 to 20:00, at least eight two-person seats just on our side were not being occupied. There may be policies in place to address that. However, work should undoubtedly be put into table availability management. Please indicate your seat preference during the booking process and call to confirm.

The table staff was always attentive to the table, and if the water or wine was about to run out, they would immediately come and refill the glasses. For starters, we ordered root vegetable salad, broccoli on the side, and for mains, we ordered the long-awaited pie and miso-flavored roasted eggplant. Every plate was delicious and full with delicate workmanship and flavor. The shop is luxurious, sparkling, and has a great atmosphere. We visited a few months ago now, the food was great as a whole, although took a while despite being one of only a few tables in the restaurant. Our servers seemed more interested in clearing the tables that had left rather than serving the tables still there and it was quite painful to watch them partially clear every table in the restaurant instead of just finishing the job and doing one at a time. They had to come back multiple times to double check our order was correct. Our starters took a while to arrive but were very nice. My partners main, the steak and blue cheese pie, was way too peppery for his liking. My chicken pie was great however for the price I would say sides should have been included for it to be worth the cost. We did pass our comments along to the waiting staff who said they’d passed our feedback to their manager, but the manager seemed too intent on laying the tables for dinner service to come back to us. We did get some money off the bill but it was still a very expensive meal considering the whole experience. It’s a real shame as we’d been looking forward to coming here for a long time and trying their pies however they did not live up to expectations and unfortunately would not recommend to anyone who values service alongside quality

I visited for a Christmas brunch and it totally hit the spot. The restaurant gave such a cozy, home-like vibe - perfect for celebrating with friends. To start, we tried oysters, salmon rillette, and octopus carpaccio. Since it was brunch, we kept it light and just ordered the braised beef pie afterwards. That pie was UNREAL. The blue cheese paired so well with the tender beef filling. The staff really made the experience. They were all super friendly, from very different backgrounds. It was cool chatting with them during our meal. Overall, picking this place for Christmas brunch was definitely one of the best choices of my trip. I would typically avoid eating out on Christmas and Boxing Day as menus are always over priced, and Holborn Dining Room unfortunately met my expectations. For a birthday celebration we had booked our table for Boxing Day months ago. When inquiring about the menu the week before, the price was increased from £70 per head to £90 per head (plus 15% service charge), and the menu significantly simplified. Children’s menu was also akin to a leisure centre one, but for £20 per head. When discussed over the phone it was explained as a festive change. I really appreciated however the quick follow up from the restaurant team who honoured the original price. On the day itself, it was disappointing that our group was split over two tables. This is more a restaurant for intimate meals, not a good set up for groups. The 3 courses for £70 (or £90 as advertised) were okay. The soup starter was luke warm, mains and puddings were satisfying but nothing special. We were given half a roast potato each on our table of six - when we asked for more towards end of the meal we were brought boiled potatoes. It turned out that all the roasties had been put on the other table - the issue with the table set up for a sharing menu. The three courses took 3 hours, very slow food service. Particularly bad that children had to wait until after adults for their mains. But waitress was attentive with drink top ups.

It’s one of those places which are good enough but not special. Food: 4/5. The pâté en croûte was delicious, as well as the beef and blue cheese steak pie. However, the pork one was rather on the dry side compared to the beef, and the dough wasn't as flaky. Cocktails: 3/5. Two cocktails from the list were unavailable on Sunday evening (bearing in mind that the cocktail menu was rather small, that was a lot). We tried a sour, which was too sweet for my taste and had an unpleasant aftertaste. Service: 3/5. The staff was professional but rushed, with a typical hint of falseness found in the usual hotel dining area. Certainly not the type whose opinion you'd like to know when choosing food. The dishes were served really fast, maybe even too fast, as there was literally no break between the starter and the main course. The atmosphere: The beautiful building is made in an old-fashioned style, but the atmosphere is not particularly relaxing or cozy.

I had been looking forward to trying out the Holborn Dining Room and sadly, it didn't live up to expectations. Starters: Pâté en croûte was very tasty and paired well with the chutney. My partner's scallops smelled very fishy and not fresh and for £26 the portion was on the small side. The main letdown was the main courses however. The venison was very dry and overcooked, my partner's ribeye looked like it had come from a vacuum packed M&S packet - very small for £45. Carrots were lukewarm, cabbage was dry and lacking flavour, mash was stodgy. All three sides felt like they had been sitting out on the side for a while in the kitchen. Dessert was decent but the Posset was cloyingly sweet and the Black Forest Choux was lacking in fruit - kind of important in anything aiming to be Black Forest anything. All told, with wine and service the bill came to £270 for two. For that kind of money I expect a lot more. All of this could be had better and for two thirds the price at Hawksmoor or as good and one fifth the price at Zedel. In 2023, if you want to charge this kind of money in London then you need to up your game. You've got Mountain, Kiln or Noble Rot just down the road in Soho, or St John or Brat to the east offering far better value and much higher quality. Really disappointing.

Yesterday I was told it was because it was Wellington Wednesday but this isn't the first time. This place could be great. Consider telling diners before they sit down or at least when the order that the kitchen is backed up. Every time I've been told 'we recommend a reservation' which I don't understand - is the kitchen not backed up for people with reservations?

The food was alright. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. I had the Holburn burger, and it was too salty for my preference. Others may enjoy it. My friends ordered the shrimp burger and the aged ribeye. The shrimp burger was a little lackluster in flavour but the ribeye was done well. We also ordered the chicken pie which never came, which is directly related to the poor service we recieved. Our server, "J", confirmed our order for the chicken pie. He even made it a point to say that he will put in the order along with whatever else we wanted since the pie will require time to prepare. He left the table by saying that the pie should take no more than 20 minutes. Queue the end of our meal and the pie was still not prepared. When confronted about the pie, instead of apologizing, he had the audacity to claim that we didn't order it. For someone who spent so much time saying that he'll get the order ready, he was sure quick to forget. The other server, R, was also less than pleasant. I asked her for the bill and for our previous servers name, she heard me the first time but made it a point to say "huh" everytime I spoke. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with our skin colour, or perhaps our more casual attire, but regardless, they made us feel like we weren't being treated like the other tables. While I get that this is a hotel restaurant, this is not a high end establishment. It's definitely not high end enough for the servers to be donning such an attitude. For such poor service, I'm surprised they charge a mandatory 15% service fee. They also charged us for an "optional" donation, which was never really optional if they didn't bother asking us if we wanted to donate. Safe to say, I will not be returning nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone. I recieved better service getting gelato at the Mercato Mayfair.

My friends and I stumbled upon this place in search of the now defunct Pie Room. Although we were disappointed to find that what we were looking for no longer exists, I believe their pies and Wellington was absorbed into their daily menu. However, that is where our luck ends. The table ordered a pie to share while I ordered a steak. At no point did our server ask if I wanted sides with that. Also, when he asked what sauce I wanted, I had a question about whether or not the peppercorn was a demi-glacé. Our server, who I shall call J, did not know, nor did he bother to ask on my behalf. He did, however, recommend it nonetheless. It wasn’t my favourite sauce but I did enjoy the ribeye. Our server, J, after confirming our order twice, still forgot to put an order through, even though we wanted to order it as soon as our server got to us. According to J, he was going to “put the pie through first along with the starters,” and that we would not have to wait long since the pie will be done in 20 minutes. It clearly didn’t come in 20 because he never put it through. When confronted with this mistake, not only was there no apology- he tried to gaslight us and tell us he confirmed we didn’t want it and then asked if we would like to add it at the end of our meal. We declined and asked for the bill instead. At the end of the bill, we had a mandatory gratuity of 15% IN ADDITION to a voluntary donation fee tacked on despite us not appreciating the level of service we actually received, nor were we asked if we’d like to make said donation. We paid it nonetheless since we know the cooks in the back deserved the tip much more than both our servers at the end of the day. Especially since they took our half full bottle of still water that we paid for and never brought it back. When we asked for their names, the female server was reluctant to provide it because she could sense something was wrong. Tl;dr, if you’re looking for a good place to eat with decent service, you should probably find someplace else. Some of the servers were absolutely delightful. But more often than not, I just found that the majority of them could not care less. This includes the manager who walked by several times but didn’t say anything. I just wouldn’t take my chances if I were you.

Service impeccable. Menu extensive A hidden gem within a hotel in the heart of London. The next part was the kindness shoen to me at the end of the meal. I have just gone blind in one eye so struggle to walk. I was slightly stumbling to the downstairs toilet. Two staff members ( on a break) insidtrdcon helping me to a lift. That act of kindness brought a tear to my (good) eye. 👏👏

Filippo was exceptional. He reassured me in regards the cooking of the scallops being rare and from that point on went over and above to insure we had the best possible experience despite a slightly shaky staff with other inexperienced staff members. As a result we would comeBack.

Nice place probably for breakfast and lunch ,defenetely not for dinner if you are looking for a quiet place. Too noisy. Tables too close each other. Food nothing special, too expensive for the quality and quantity served. I do realise that we are chasing good gp , but people need to enjoy a decent meal too. Good wine, friendly and professional service.

This place always delivers. The dining room was half full for Sunday lunch, but still had pleasant atmosphere. Had the Roast Orkney Scallops to start. The combination of the scallops with the curried cauliflower puree was a winner, and will order again. Main course of the lamb pie are what autumnal Sunday lunches are all about - melt in the mouth lamb, with the salsa verde was faultless, pie heaven ! All this washed down with some decent Bordeaux - we left the restaurant on a high...... The service was as well executed as the food. As London suffers from a skills shortage in hospitality, The Rosewood still retains excellent staff, which is both professional but also warm and relaxing, and is what makes going out such a pleasure. Keep doing what you're doing, as with more 5 star hotels competing for our wallets, the Holborn Dining Room keeps on delivering.

Been to the restaurant before Covid and enjoyed our meal so went again. What a disaster. The food was burnt. The pies were burnt, the chocolate dessert was burnt and was inedible as a result. Half the chips were undercooked and the other half so hard that we almost broke our teeth on them. The Parmesan and truffle fries were totally unbalanced and tasted awful - unless you like soggy chips with a dumping of cheese on top. Macaroni cheese was minuscule and cold. In addition to being burnt, the dauphinoise potato pie was tasteless and stodgy, lumps of hard potato in a badly cooked pastry shell - a snip at £25 (badly cooked sides extra). Let’s not talk about the lamb pie at £36… Only about 4 tables were occupied and it was clear to see why. Shame we were all crammed together in an otherwise deserted, cold restaurant. We did pay the £25 service charge but I’m not sure why seeing as our order was incorrect, and the service about as good as the pies. We were initially greeted by a female waiter who tried to bully us into ordering the prawns, never had a hard sell in a restaurant like it. In hindsight, perhaps she was trying to tell us something… Terrible experience. Save your money and go to one of the fantastic restaurants London has to offer - sadly the Pie Room isn’t one of them.

Came here for a special birthday Sunday lunch . Staff not very attentive left us along time before even offering a drink . We ordered the roast dinner took along time to come , ordered wine but had to ask where it was. One dinner arrived cold and had to ask for to warmed up. Not offered any sauces at all and had to keep asking for more water as the bottle was not left on table similarly the wine however it was left chilled . Deserts were the best part of our meal . Overall very poor value for money and poor service

An £11 pork pie without jelly! I commented but absolutely no interest in putting this right, so then I complained which made no difference. Annoyed? I could have had a decent lunch treat somewhere else. And a pointless lesson learnt.

Fantastic staff. Some team members remembered me despite last visiting 4 years ago. Says a lot about their genuine attention to their customers. The food, as always, was excellent. I'd recommend a visit for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Can't go wrong. Try their pies, or beef Wellington (on Wednesdays).

The dining experience was sublime. The Scottish egg boasted a perfectly runny center, encased in a crispy exterior. The octopus carpaccio was a dance of flavors, both tender and zestful. The cod was flaky and impeccably seasoned, complemented beautifully by the steamed broccoli. The lamb pie, enriched by a robust beef reduction, was a hearty masterpiece. And the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla-rum ice cream? A decadent finale that left us utterly satisfied. Truly a culinary tour de force.
