Myself and my partner attended as a walk in for breakfast, we were shown to pur table by a very pleasant lady on reception, we were then attended to by a very cheery pleasant male waiter, who gave us clean menus, took our orders and then served our food, we both had full English breakfasts, due to my husbands dietary requirements, we had to remove some items from the breakfast (we do this alot it's not place specific) and as a result the waiter offered us extras of the other items on the plate to make up of the items my husband doesn't like, I'm very pleased with how spectacular the food tasted, and how it was presented. Thank you.

A delicious Sunday lunch..... we enjoyed the very tasty, juicy lamb kofta and homemade tomato soup with warm bread rolls for starters... we both had the pork this time... great creamy mash and nice crisp roast potatoes, as they should be. The pork was nicely cooked, moist and juicy. A good assortment of veg, peas, beans and mangetout, cauliflower cheese and roasted root veg and gravy... the stuffing was particularly delicious with just the right amount of salt crystals to give a great salt kick every so often. Too full for dessert sadly.... The staff were friendly, efficient and there was a nice atmosphere in the dining room. There is always a lovely welcome from staff and owner, who makes a point of stopping to say hello and check all is good when passing.

Enjoyed a gorgeous meal at the Penny Bar. First time customers but will be returning. Greeted warmly by friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful food - I had the sea bass perfectly cooked. Atmosphere was welcoming and although nicely busy was quiet enough to chat comfortably. Throughly enjoyed the evening and very good value for the quality of food and service. Highly recommend.

Firstly the staff here are lovely, helpful and kind and the food was delicious. The spa is also very nice, clean and the treatment we had was amazing. However, that’s where the positives end! You get the impression firstly that every penny counts to the owner and corners are cut to achieve this…. Our breakfast coffee was so weak, we doubled up the coffee grounds from 2 cafetière to make it drinkable. The pot holding the cutlery had ONE marmalade, ONE jam and ONE marmite. If you wanted more, you had to ask!! There was very little contents in our bathroom shampoo, conditioner and body wash- it’s like they give you JUST enough to get by!! Be warned, the location is on a working farm. This comes with its own smells and when we stayed, a crazy amount of flies. Our room overlooked the farms heavy vehicles parking area, so in the evening when the muck spreader vehicle came back, it was rather whiffy to say the least. ( see pictures for closeness!) The flies around the place were horrendous and we were constantly killing them by the dozen. (See pics of our window ledge) We also had a cold shower before dinner. When we inquired why, it was because the boiler had been off since the morning and they hadn’t noticed. They then lit the wood burner to warm the water, which led to us being smoked out in our room as the chimney for the burner was directly outside and the wind blowing right into our room. (Window was open as it was 24 degrees outside). Another point to note is, they do not run tabs to the rooms. We had lunch on Saturday, after checking in. We then went about our day. In the evening when we ordered drinks at the bar, we were told that we had left without paying our lunch! We were totally taken aback, as it was never our intention to steal lunch!!! We had assumed, and not been told differently, that it was billed to our room and we would tally up on leaving. All together, it was not the greatest experience, and not a place we would add to our regular venues to visit.

Stayed at the St clears Travelodge, but their boxed breakfast did not appeal (along with the adjacent MC Donald s and Starbucks!!) The hearty breakfast at the Penny bar more than repayed the effort of driving the 1.7 miles from the Travelodge and significantly exceeded in value, quality and quantity anything that McDonald's and Starbucks would have provided. The service was excellent, the ambience characterful and comfortable. Certainly will return

Staff tried their best but its clear the issues we faced were down to kitchen and management. Poor catering for vegans and gluten-free with a lack of communication between staffs as to how food could be adapted. Had to ask for milk to be served with the tea- dry sandwiches, terrible scones, had to open our own bottle of fizz as it was just left unopened in the ice bucket at lunchtime. Gluten-free guest was served soup with a normal bread crouton on the top for afternoon tea; vegan was served non-vegan welshcakes! Waited 45 mins for lunch after ordering and 30 mins for afternoon tea.

Service was excellent, setting beautiful, assam tea delicious but cake stand very disappointing....would have expected at least one crumb cake...either chocolate or lemon but none available. The salted caramel cake was tasteless, just sweet. The scones arrived warm , went hard very quickly and no butter served with them . On the positive side the little meringue tartlet was lovely. Wouldn't say that was worth the £19.95 sadly.

Visited as small group friends. The afternoon tea was a gift so we didn’t have choice but to attend the tea which was called ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ Staff were very friendly and were very helpful nothing was too much trouble for them. The room didn’t really have that feeling of cosy, tea room feel. First we were served Iced tea in little bottles which was lovely, very refreshing. Followed by limitless tea in China tea pots and lovely china cups . Presentation of food came in a plastic bird cage with artificial flowers ! 4 dry finger sandwiches, followed by a selection of very different looking choice of cakes. Which weren’t very impressive too look at, And Nothing had any flavour. Everything was very bland. Even the savoury scone with Parma ham was tasteless! Another group were having a ‘normal afternoon tea’ which conisisted of scones and cream and battenburg cake and mini fruit tarts. This looked lovely ! Would recommend going for this if you have a choice. Think the mad hatters tea is more suited to families with children, and possibly people should be advised of this when buying vouchers as gifts. Probably would not visit here again. Sorry.

The level of service was not as expected, They did not want to be part of the experience , just showed as to the table and that was it.. We had an afternoon tea served to us whilst we were on a hen weekend at Llety Cynin. The food was excellent, sandwiches fresh and the fillings were varied. We had 2 veggies with us, a celiac and 2 who were pregnant and all were catered for without any fuss or bother. The cakes were plentiful and very fresh, we also had scones with jam and cream or with butter. Copious amounts of tea and coffee were also available and the staff came back to check on us several times. Teapots and cafetieres were refilled without us asking. Many thanks to all the staff who made our stay and the afternoon tea so enjoyable.

I met a friend here or the Christmas afternoon tea at the beginning of December. We were taken to the room overlooking the indoor swimming pool. We were offered tea/coffee as soon as we were seated and the food was served quickly after. There was a good selection of sandwiches and the pate was very nice. I usually avoid pate as I find it too heavy however this is the lightest pate I have ever tasted. The warm mini Yorkshire pudding with pigs in blanket was a nice addition. There was also a good selection of sweet treats, in particular the apple and cinnamon cake, and we were full by the end of the afternoon tea. I would highly recommend Llety Cynin for food especially their afternoon tea. This is the third time I have had afternoon tea at Llety Cynin and yet again they have not disappointed.

Booked the Roald Dahl afternoon tea. We were a group of ten, six adults and four children. We had thought that there would be a Charlie and the Chocolate theme, however, this consisted of a purple table cloth and one Charlie hat between the children. Once the afternoon tea had been brought to our table the staff did not come near us again to check if we were okay. Of the six blue drinks provided with the adult afternoon tea not one was drunk as it was absolutely disgusting and none of the staff questioned this. There were only a few finger sandwiches per person and overall I did not think it was value for money as the quantity of sandwiches/food was very poor between all of us. Please note that there is also an extra charge should one wish to do the James and the Giant peach walk which offers a prize for the children who complete the walk, however, the prize is another small cake. I would not recommend the Roald Dahl tea to any of my friends with children as could find much better value for money for £120 for the one hour we were there! However, I would say that the reception staff were very friendly.

We booked this tea for Mother's Day, also my birthday the day before. There were four adults and one child. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly by the staff. My daughter had injured her leg the day before and was on crutches, and she was immediately asked by the young man (Jake I believe) if she could manage the stairs. On being told that she couldn't, he lost no time in setting us up in the downstairs lounge, he and a young lady bringing us everything we needed, including the themed cloth. With the Willy Wonka story on the CD player, tea was started. Everything we had was perfect. Lashings of tea and coffee, (and offers of more) lovely, dainty sandwiches with the child's presented in a special box, and plenty of sweet delights for all. I would highly recommend this tea to anyone who likes Roald Dahl, and indeed those who don't! This was the second time for my daughter and her family, and we shall return very soon.

We booked this place as a joint mothers day/8th birthday treat, we were really looking Forward to it, but weren't really satisfied if I am honest!! Firstly we thought the room would be dressed for the occasion seeing they are doing the theme for a year but apart for purple table cloths, 2 purple hats for guest to share and a rather loud audio tape there was nothing. The sandwiches were dry with not much filling, the blue drink was awful and far to much sweet things. Sorry but we won't be returning which is a shame as it's in really great surroundings and the building is delightful!

I came here for the first time today, and it certainly won't be my last. I came here for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired afternoon tea and thought it was absolutely wonderful. They brought out coffee to begin with (tea was also available), and then they brought out the afternoon tea, which consisted of strawberry fudge, blueberry pie, toffee apple cake, mini toad in the hole (the sausage in the toad in the hole was particularly tasty), four sandwich slices (ham, brie and cranberry, salmon and egg), and these cups filled with chocolate mousse. The cups were made out of a wafer cone with a little pretzel handle and Reese's peanut butter cup base - I think this was my favourite out of the lot. It also came with a deliciously refreshing drink. I'm not sure what it was - blue raspberry perhaps? - but it was very, very nice! My only little niggle was the strawberry fudge, which I didn't feel had been properly done. The sugar hadn't completely melted and the fudge hadn't set like it should have. I make fudge from time to time and it doesn't always turn out like it should, and it has turned out like this with me in the past, which is not how it should turn out. But this is a very minor thing in an otherwise perfect and delicious afternoon tea. The cost was £15 per person for an adult Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired afternoon tea, and it is available for one person as well as more than one. There is also a children's version of the tea available at a cost of £10. I received a generous amount of coffee in a cafetiere upon arrival, and more was available if I wanted. The waitress came round regularly to ask if I would like more coffee. A Roald Dahl audio book was playing, which was a nice touch, but due to the noise in the room, it was hard for me to hear it, which was a shame. The place itself is very easy to find. Just a little out of St Clears. I will definitely be coming back.

Booked Willy Wonka afternoon tea for my mum's 70th birthday as it was something different. Easy place to find and in beautiful surroundings. China cups and saucers and lots of lovely tea and coffee. We took my 8 year old son as he's a Roald Dahl fanatic too. The tea however was quite dissapointing as it wasn't worth £15 per adult and £10 per child. Ok, it looked pretty but there was no atmosphere whatsoever. The food was ok but nothing really extraordinary. Considering it was child based, there was only an audio book playing in the background, even though there was a TV in the tea room. The was no indication that it was a themed tea. Staff were lovely but they could have dressed up or had some theme to the event. We so looked forward to this and we're quite let down by the whole experience.

We were seated in a lounge area on very comfortable sofas and our tea was brought to us within minutes of being seated. I had booked in advance and asked if it was possible for my son to have plain sandwiches as he didn’t like mayo etc . This was done with no problem whatsoever. The Afternoon Tea costs £6.50 per person and our tea consisted of a lovely selection of sandwiches (we had 5 different fillings), homemade quiche, scones with clotted cream and jam, individual carrot cakes and the most moist chocolatey brownies I have ever tasted. The quality of the afternoon tea served at Lolfa Cynin is excellent. A good variety of fresh sandwiches, warm quiche and home made cakes all for just £6.50. I have paid at least twice as much elsewhere and been disappointed! The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The setting is quiet, with beautiful grounds. We asked for a quick look at the pool area and were offered a tour of the whole complex - the rooms looked stunning and I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay with family or friends based on what we saw. My only criticism (and this is a minor one!) is that the room we had tea in, whilst comfortable, was fairly dark which was a shame as it was such a glorious day outside. The room the other side of the building looked much lighter and airy. However, overall a very pleasant afternoon and one I would (and already have!) recommend to others. Thank you!

The first disaster was the waitress spilling the tea all over the table and then when the sandwiches were brought we noticed there weren t any ham! Apparently they d run out of ham despite us having pre ordered. Also we couldn t believe that the sandwiches on the plate were smoked salmon and brie....exactly what we said we didn t like! The other sandwiches were cheese and tomato and some chicken which we wrapped up in tissue for my father to eat the following day. The manageress and her ginger haired daughter were very defensive and their attitude was appauling. Went for a meeting with fellow colleagues and the surroundings, staff, presentation and not to forget the food is very, very good. We were served a lunch of copious choices and three different deserts. Plenty of choice of different food like sandwiches, snack bites, quiche, meats, fruit strawberries, blueberries, apples, grapes, bananas, all of the range. Plentyful and all ripe and delicious. The owners have it well pitched and provide a very friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

I believe the Thomas Arms were going through a reorganisation when we booked our meal, and it was difficult to contact staff. However, they now have changed their contact system to cover the different dept options, so I'm sure this has been resolved. We were a party of 12, at a time when the pub was very busy with the Christmas light celebrations, but the staff seemed to manage well and the table service was very good. The food was good in general, and the starter options of cockles, and the sticky toffee pudding were outstanding. All the staff were very pleasant and attentive

This was a great spot for lunch! We stopped off on spec and I was pleased to see vegan options. I had the vegan burger which was lovely. My parents had the chicken burger and the gammon, and they were equally pleased with the food, the portions and the service. I also had a vegan crumble tart with custard which was delicious! Overall a very pleasant experience, although prices were a little on the high side.

Stopped off here for lunch with my elderly mum and was pleasantly surprised. Whilst the seating was adequate the staff were very friendly and cleared vacated tables promptly. The drinks and food menu’s had plenty of choice and I decided to have the jacket potato with chicken curry which came with a salad garnish. The portion was great and the chicken curry was delicious…mum had a toasted sandwich which came with a small salad, coleslaw and some crisps. Both very reasonably priced and would not hesitate to recommend if you are looking for a lunch time bite. We will return.
