Advocate Arms Hotel Restaurant in West Lindsey

New year's menu was really disappointing. The entire venue closed around 11pm on New years eve, so no celebrations were had. The menu stated it would be small plates and main menu available. The main menu was not available and the small plates were average at best. We have been coming to the Advocate for 15 years since Dominic was in hand and I don't think we will ever return now. The service was incredibly slow and took over 2 hours for the dinner service, which wasn't an issue as we weren't in a rush but was a long time either way.

Booked in for Boxing Day lunch for our family there was 9 of us altogether and we couldn’t find fault with anything the food was freshly cooked and very tasty and all at a great price thankyou to Kate for the fabulous warm welcome and to all the staff who worked so very hard making sure everything was perfect

Booked in for Christmas Day 2024 which was a wonderful meal from start to finish. Everything was perfect and food was amazing, compliments go the hardworking Chef’s and all the Team. Katie and all the Team provide an excellent service and experience and always go the extra mile. We have been going to The Advocate for many years and the food has always been amazing with excellent choices. All the staff are polite, pleasant, helpful and friendly. We mostly definitely recommend a visit. We will certainly continue to enjoy our regular visits. Congratulations to Team Advocate

Having checked the restaurant's online 'evening' menu, we'd selected this option over others in the area. There was no indication on the website, or when making the booking, that we'd be restricted to a 'special' festive menu i.e.'special' inflated fixed price for all menu options. On arrival, the food looked appetising. We'd barely taken a bite when we were asked if the food was OK, one of us still in the toilets, and we nodded approval. The vegetables were perfectly cooked. However the beef and turkey were both very dry and we kept looking for a waitress to ask for some gravy. Eventually, unable to eat the food, I went to search for someone but couldn't penetrate the throng of rowdies at the bar. Towards the end of the meal, a waitress appeared at another table and we asked for some gravy, explaining that food was very dry. When a different waitress came to clear the plates, we again explained that the food had been dry to which she replied that she'd 'let the chef know'. We'd been warned that it may get busy and noisy so we'd reserved a table for 5.30pm. As there were only three tables in the bar area, we accepted that this may be a better option. We weren't prepared for a level of drunken shrieking that prevented any form of conversation whatsoever. We abandoned our plan to order dessert and coffee as we just wanted to get away. When paying in the dining room, it was really disappointing to note that the dining room was still completely empty except for two tables of quiet diners. We again mentioned the dry food and the fact that we'd requested a quiet area. Another member of our party made a complaint to the manager about the food, our three previous notifications having gone unaddressed. The chef (now revealed to also be the owner), agreed to remove the cost of one meal. A measure of a good business is how well complaints are handled. When the management come out fighting and making personal attacks on their customers rather than apologising for and rectifying their own shortcomings, it's a good indication that you need to chose another venue.

We arrived to meet friends understanding that our table would be in the bar but we tried to move to a quieter table which would have to be vacated by 7pm - however after a desultory meal opposite a table full of the most obnoxiously screaming young ladies we had to leave. The meal was dry and despite saying so to the waitress who went to speak to the owner / chef came back and said oh well the chef apologised!!!that was not particularly helpful at £20 per main course, On leaving we noted that the quieter area (after 7pm) was still partially empty and we could have been seated there but the manager made such a fuss about it that we had not taken up the offer. We mentioned again the dryness of the meal and again an apology - I said is that really all you can do? The manager was unhelpful but gave us one meal off the value of the bill. She has commented that we were trying to get out paying which is completely untrue as we had already tried to discuss this with a waitress. Their manner implies they simply don’t care about the quality or service at their facility. £16 for a gun and tonic is seriously over the top!!! We won’t be back and this should serve as a warning to other clients that this is expensive for what you get, the service is ordinary and the clientele overly rowdy. Not a pleasant experience

One of the best restaurant meals I’ve had in many months. We went on impulse to celebrate my partner’s birthday yesterday evening, having had a very bad experience there in the past when it was owned by someone different. The food was superb and the service was efficient and friendly. Highly recommended and we’ll most definitely be going again

If you’re looking for an evening meal in Market Rasen other than pub grub, this seems to be the only option. Luckily, The Advocate Arms uses good ingredients cooked properly at a reasonable price. A safe bet in a culinary desert.

Let’s be honest, Market Rasen is not blessed with good eating venues. However for our wedding anniversary meal we chose The Advocate Arms. A Tuesday night…and you know the scarcity of venues open in rural Lincolnshire at the start of the week.The venue was warm and welcoming and the staff attentive. We had been before a few years ago - this time We each chose 3 starters or small plates - British Tapas style. They came on a three tiered serving tripod and looked good. I highly recommend this - you will still feel full. This left space for a desert each and the crème brûlée is highly recommended. The only down side was wine was not listed on the drinks menu - except “ask about the weeks wine”. I forgot to ask about the price of a glass. Make sure you do…..! My wife finished with a coffee with rum. We both tasted it and could neither smell or taste any rum. It was detailed on the bill as Bacardi. Just shy of £100 for 2 would have been £40-£50 a couple of years ago but costs have shot up, not necessarily incomes, so what can you except reduce outings. Overall, though, it was good.

I went to the Advocate Arms on Friday evening for a meal with work colleagues. I have to say the meal was delicious, very well presented and filling. Staff were friendly and attentive. My friends and I enjoyed an enjoyable evening, credit to the chefs and Advocate team, Thank you 😊

Restaurant was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The food? My God! It was delicious 😋 Both my wife and I loved it.

We took a table for two for the seafood menu, which was £20 a head. The service was good throughout, despite the restaurant being full, so credit to the staff for that. The salmon blinis, the crab rolls they were ok, and the calamari that was fantastic, the highlight of the night. The mains of mussels was really disappointing though. The mussels themselves were the smallest I've ever eaten, many in my dish being about 1cm to 1.5cm in length. The sauce they ere cooked in was acceptable, taste is a personal thing, so for me it was a little heavy, less cream and more white wine needed, perhaps. But that's personal as I said. A bit sad that the evening was let down by the mussels, but I have to concede that many other guests were enjoying their meal. I'd have given 3.5 if I could have.

Perfect for breakfast. Excellent food, excellent service, definitely good value for money. I definitely recommend this venue for a vegetarian breakfast. Also full English breakfast which my husband had. Perfect for all occasions

We came in just before 5.00 pm for a light meal. Staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The interior furnishings and decor were top class and clean. A great experience.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The staff were so friendly, ensuring our stay was perfect. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and it was delicious 😋 The breakfast was also very good. We always like to stay somewhere and find something you wouldn't find in most places. Well, the best part of staying here for us was not having to be at breakfast by a certain time. This made all the difference to our stay. The bar does shut by 10pm but you can take drinks to your room, which again we were very grateful for. Would highly recommend! We paid £100 per night and that included breakfast for us both! The rooms were out of this world, beautifully clean and kept to a very high standard. This place sets a high standard, well done to the Advocat team

Likes, A beautiful central building, friendly staff. Room seemed clean enough on entry. Dislikes, wasn't shown to room on second floor or offered help with bags. Room is darkly decorated with some over decor items. Bed was dreadful and uncomfy, had it been daylight I would have left in the early hours. Upon inspection, the bed had one tatty mattress protector that revealed a very stained mattress, this made me nauseous to think I'd slept on it. Wasn't asked in the morning how my stay was, toast was all I could manage. This establishment has lost my business, if you're going to run something do it well. Felt like i'd spent the night in a tawdry guesthouse and came away feeling dirty. You have been warned.

Had Sunday lunch here 28th January. A very pleasant restaurant in the heart of Market Rasen, where the staff appear happy in their work, and certainly warrant a 10/10 from me. The food was served in generous, yet not overwhelming portions, all of high quality enjoyed by us both.

Been here before and food was really good, this time however no main menu just a lunchtime special or brunch menu. I can have breakfast anywhere. The starters were very small. Soup was good, too much butter for a small piece of bread. The salmon and broccoli bake lacked flavour, very little salmon, 2 pieces of broccoli and few bits of diced potato. I can’t normally eat 2 courses on a lunchtime but still felt hungry after the meal. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and tidy. However bring back the Main menu on a Saturday lunchtime please. I would rather pay more for a quality and substantial main course with quality ingredients. Lunchtime special meal deals, I could go to any high street pub chain. You are better than that.

Been coming to the advocate for a year now. Always had a good meal, but the recent one was very nondescript. My fish and chips were over-cooked and tasteless. My husbands meal was, again, overcooked and cold. The staff were great and did take one meal off the bill. Such a shame, because in Market Rasen there aren't many good places to eat and really wanted this meal to impress our family who came to visit. Please get back to the good food that was once served.

Absolutely wonderful evening the staff at the advocate were doing the function at the festival Hall..food was without doubt amazing ..bar staff waitresses and the new owner /chef did a Absolutely amazing job ... seems to have picked up so much more now the old owner as left ...thank you all for a lovely evening

Sunday lunch The fish cake starter was very disappointing no taste at all. My wife fish was well overcooked. My choice was sold out so I had the meat pie which fine. The atmosphere was more like a fast food pub. Sadly today was not as good as previous visits. There are better value meals locally.

We’ve been visiting this place just before Christmas each year since 2015, specifically to meet up with family for lunch together. However after this last visit I don’t think we’ll be returning. Obviously prices are rising in all pubs/restaurants, but we all felt that charging £24 for a 2 course lunch with such meagre portions (especially the mains) was too much. Other years the Christmas atmosphere has been quite good, with festive tableware, crackers, etc. This year it was white napkins, no crackers and one small effort at a glittery tree on the table (we were lucky - many tables didn’t have anything). Between us we experienced several different mains and desserts and all were rather lacking - the men particularly in our group looking at their chosen dishes with one small item on a huge plate saying “is that it?”. The service wasn’t too good either. After our mains had been served and we had all eaten a good third of our food, the server suddenly appeared with a bowl of vegetables for the table! This was appreciated as it added more quantity to the limited portions, but it ought to have arrived with the meals. The waitress also, twice, leant across a person eating to place items in front of someone else. For a place advertising “fine dining” this is not acceptable - fundamentally quite impolite - and it wasn’t as if access to the table was difficult - she could easily have walked around the other side of the table. We've had far better food and service in Lincolnshire for half the price.

Food was excellent. All three courses for 9 people was faultless. Was a bit apprehensive after been told portions small and not the best food prior to our visit but could not complain about anything. Would definitely go again.

First visit after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed. Front of House (2 ladies) were very welcoming friendly and polite, food well presented and good quality. All in all the 35 minutes to get there were well worth the visit.

The food was excellent and good value for money. However my Sunday lunch dining experience was spoiled by the very loud music. Totally unnecessary given the average age of the customers. Other people also commented on how difficult it was to have a conversation. Please turn it down.

Used as a base to visit family. Had a wonderful time staff were very helpful and friendly especially one lady who couldn't do enough for me, I felt I went in as a stranger and left with a new friend, Tracey your a star thank you so much , see you next year.

As a regular customer of The Advocate, I have to say that the staff are always welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I regularly visit for coffee and occasionally come for breakfast or an evening meal. The salmon with winter ratatouille is highly recommended and if you fancy treating yourself, the Afternoon Tea is amazing! The Advocate is the go to place for fantastic coffee or for something filling!

Three of us ate here today and enjoyed our lunch very much. I’d have been a touch happier if a pint of bitter had been available but recognise that it’s a dying product. I ordered the pheasant with mash and broccoli and it was very good indeed. The sauce complemented the meat very well and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. This time of the year I pick up pheasants and partridges at a local shoot and it’s great to see a chef not only conscious of the season but putting game on the menu.
