We must be incredibly unlucky as a family over the last few weeks to be turned away the last three times we have tried to eat in the afternoon. We have dined in the Rodney frequently now for years although now it seems to be impossible. On the last 3 occasions we have been told by Emily, The chef is refusing to cook due to being short staffed, then the next time he was doing meal prep then finally this time he was making cheesecakes. Well enough said we won’t bother coming again!!

2 night break, revisit. Staffing levels appeared a bit of a problem, queuing to be seated for breakfast and dinner and largely ignored by staff that were on. Breakfast order missed first morning and poached eggs like bullets second morning. Don’t want standards to slip as like it here.

Having stayed in many Premier Inns in my time (which are perfectly ok), to arrive on a wet and dreary Thursday night was like being wrapped in a warm blanket. The room was so comfortable and welcoming, and the food was superb, breakfast too. Would definitely recommend this gem and hope to return one day.

Lovely decor and the waitress who served us was really nice and friendly. However the food was hideous and a small lunch took well over half an hour to come out. We were in a rush with a toddler so didn’t want to wait even longer for a replacement. Upon paying we politely complained and were told ‘there’s nothing I can do about it now’ by the Duty Manager. Would not recommend.

This hotel is substantially below its rating. The first room was dark, cold and smelt of damp. There was condensation running down the window. Rotten window frame and mould. On asking for a different room the receptionist reaction was the hotel was full - then silence. Eventually she called the duty manager was called. We both went back to the room and another room was allocated. This room was okay with the exception the heating did not work. Radiator provided the next day. On check out the general manager asked how was the stay. I told her. Her reaction was not an apology but she did not want to hear anything. This hotel has maintenance issues and bad attitude amongst some of the staff.

Really disappointed with the accommodation and service at this hotel. On arrival the receptionist came across very abrupt. We a were early for check in so went for a drink in the bar area while we waited for our room. The service in the bar was so so slow and there was only one member of staff serving the public bar and the wedding reception taking place in the restaurant. We saw a number of people walk out as they got fed up waiting to be served. One in the room which was a really good size and lay out it was clear that the rooms need a really good deep clean. Lots of old cobwebs and dust everywhere especially the lampshades! The paintwork was also quite dirty and marked. At breakfast on the first morning we weren’t able to sit with other members of our group”due to the seating plan” even tho we booked breakfast for the same time. However the breakfast was served quickly and was very enjoyable. However on the second day there was a long wait for breakfast which was also a lot smaller ( no hash browns and only half a mushroom) when asked why they said they were running out of ingredients. Overall a very disappointing stay. Which is a shame because of the hotels great location. Hotel needs more staff and a deep clean to bring it up to standard.

I have had afternoon tea on my birthday for a few years now. The most luxurious being at the Covent Garden hotel in London which was extremely expensive however i wanted to treat myself. I never thought I’d find something to equal it but I am so happy that the Admiral Rodney’s Afternoon Tea was stunning and incredible value for money and equally as special. I had booked a table for myself and my dearest Mum at the Admiral Rodney having heard mixed reviews about the standard of Afternoon Tea and I am thrilled to report that it was fantastic… When we we arrived there was a wedding party in the restaurant and it was super busy and noisy. I thought maybe I had made a mistake in booking it there but despite it being super busy I was also made to feel valued. Once seated on a beautiful table we were served very quickly with our Afternoon Tea which was superbly presented with fresh sandwiches and warm scones accompanied with cream and pots of jam with a plethora of little cakes and delightful macarons but the main star of the whole experience was John who I believe was the duty manager he was exceptional and despite being rushed off his feet went out of his way to make sure I had a lovely birthday. John is an asset to your hotel… despite it being really busy he made me feel special on my birthday when I could have easily have been so forgotten about. Once the Wedding Guests moved upstairs I watched how John and his staff reset the dining room with so much professionalism and grace, the way he politely delegated to his staff and how he continued to being attentive to our experience was a masterclass to behold. Thank you so much for making my birthday special and to John and his staff, it’s safe to say that Admiral Rodney is in incredibly safe hands.

Booked this hotel as a last minute get away. We left our bags at the hotel and went off shopping. The receptionist at check in was very welcoming, we got a free up grade. The room was lovely, great view, complimentary toiletries etc. All was going well until the couple next door arrived. The interconnecting door does very little to prevent the noise from other guests. Full on audio porn show. Staff were very helpful during dinner with my dietary requirements. All in all the meals were good. At 2am the noise started again, thankfully I had taken ear plugs! It was a lovely stay apart from the noise issues.

Disappointed. Not been here for a while and sadly its not as good as it used to be. Popped in for lunch. Very slow service, sticky/unwiped tables, crumbs all over the seats and the carpet and the toilets were filthy too! Friendly staff and nice food, albeit a little on the pricey side. But based on the poor cleanliness, we won't be rushing to return.

We decided to hold our wedding ceremony and reception at the Admiral Rodney well over a year ago. The planning and assistance was made easy by Beth the lovely wedding coordinator. Every query was quickly answered and she catered for our needs. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect, not a thing went wrong. Richard and Cat worked tirelessly throughout the scorching hot day to make sure everything went to plan and no mishaps and also the Chef who stood behind the BBQ for our evening meal. You deserve a medal. A lot of our guests stayed over and complimented the food both for our wedding and breakfast etc. The rooms are spotlessly clean and so comfortable. I highly recommend the Admiral Rodney whether it be for your wedding venue, hotel stay or meal out. The staff are amazing. Thank you to everyone who made our day so amazing and perfect! ♥️

Staff couldn't have been kinder anyone would think I was someone special. Everyone who came in was treated the same. Wish I had time to spare to try some of the other meals. I didn't see the rooms but if they were anything like the restaurant and public area. Expect great things. Reasonably priced and so enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you. We like the Coaching Inn Group - we have stayed in 17 of their hotels. Some are more upmarket than others and the Admiral Rodeny isn't particularly luxurious. Rather brusk lady gave us our menus and rudely exclaimed that if choosing from the set meal menu there would be 'strictly no deviation' she then required us to order all courses at once. So far it's reminding me of school dinners and suggest a little training might be necessary to prevent losing future customers! The food was excellent so I would keep hold of the chef. More terrible service kicked in between the main courses and sweets as after over 30 minutes waiting I asked a waiter if we had been forgotten and within another 10 minutes our sweets arrived. At the till the I was told that 10% service charge had been added to my bill and no apology was given for the unacceptable wait between courses. It goes without saying that I asked for the service charge to be removed. Excellent food with poor service.

It’s hard to know where to start, 18 months ago it was a 8/10 place to eat, the room itself is beautiful and it should be thee best place in horncastle to wine and dine. However in recent months it has steadily declined , staff dis interested and look scruffy , no front of house management who seem willing to take charge. The menus were bought over, the main menu with food markets on it , and 3 other bits of scruffy bits of a4 paper with various specials on. Totally unnecessary to offer so much, the focus should be on quality not quantity. Food order taken, drinks order taken. Next was a ridiculous wait for both. The starters were absolutely awful, the mains either cremated or under cooked , my rump steak , which incidentally was the only steak on the menu , bizarre, , was awful. Pale and insipid. The deserts were good , but very limited as this or that was off the menu.It was a Saturday night, half full , , the bill was 143 quid for 3 of usThe chef and the management need to have a clear out and get this nice restaurant back on its feet

What a dessert menu, infact three! Sundae's, spevial and the standard desserts. My custon sundae was lush made to order, the brownie went down well for my nephew and the crumble was 'a bit too nobbly' for one but easy to customise the clotted cream for ice cream. The lemon meringue pie was good. Reasonable prices in a classy feeling restaurant with modern decor.

Restaurant worth a visit for the tasteful conversion of the former building providing a huge and unusual setting and slightly weird but calm atmosphere.Food and drink good. Our lunchtime visit was marred a little as the "crew" were all below decks at first and the calmness induced them to "sleep-walking" when they did muster. There was no "welcome aboard" or introduction to table or services available ... we were left to guess. It smacks of being over popular and the crass assumption .. we don't need to serve. We do not expect to be "piped-onboard" but we and others were not greeted, seated and made feel comfortable from the start. The duty officer did make a "fleeting -visit" but did not spend enough time checking if all was "ship-shape". Do give it a try ... nice place and food avove average.

Our first impression of the room we were assigned was not good: it was very cold when we first stepped in, the TV did not work, the floor creaked to an unbearable degree when you walked on it, and there was some markings on the wardrobe doors (maybe splashes of coffee or similar that had not been wiped off). That said, they were able to switch us into another room, less creaky and a little nicer. It's just a real shame that the gloss had been taken off our stay right from the start.

We have just come back from a night away at the Admiral Rodney (Oct 28th) and we honestly on the whole could not fault it, the staff were lovely, particularly the duty manager at breakfast (sorry I didn't get her name), who was welcoming and lovely, she was really informative about the area and also the other inns in the group when we enquired about them...she's a real credit to the place and the company. The Head Receptionist was also very helpful and professional.

Stayed here for two nights on a secret escapes deal. Hotel had good secure parking facilities. Room was spacious and clean over looking court yard with no noise. Good size bathroom with all amenities fan a bit noisey otherwise fine. Breakfast was cooked to order and beautifully presented. Staff very helpful with ingredients and local knowledge. Had one evening meal again beautifully presented and a good choice at a reasonable price. Hotel set in good location close to all local amenities. Would definitely stay here again

We had a nice time as we were in good company and it is a very nice place to have dinner. The Staff and service was very good and they made us feel very welcome. No complaints at all on this part. The food was a let down as it feels like it is not all made fresh and there is a lot of stuff that is microwaved to warm it back up again. one of our meals was sent back as it was not that warm and the extra onions rings were not that warm either (They were home made though). The deserts are also not homemade and just cash and carry ones brought in. We have eaten here before and I think it was better last time but we left just feeling a little under impressed at the food for such a nice place and setting which is a shame. Maybe it was just an off-day

Sadly I sat at a table for several minuets waiting for someone to serve me. As no-one was forth coming I went to the bar to make my order known. Not really user friendly.

We meet at the Admiral Rodney every third Tuesday of the Month for our Probus Meeting and Lunch. We have a set meal which we know about the previous month. The food is o.k. the Sweets are the best as I love my sweets. The food is always cooked well if yo ask for something them there is no trouble they will go out of their way to help you which is lovely. We have been coming for quite a lot of years and we will continue to do so.

Me and my husband stayed at the Admiral Rodney for one night as part of a wedding. We cannot fault the hotel. It was clean and sleek. Our double hotel room was very roomy and had everyone we needed. Only downside was the TV was so hard to use. We got there in the end but could have been simpler!

Came to Horncastle for a week with our 3 Frenchies we visited here 3 times in our week, we sat in the garden as we feel more comfortable outside with our Frenchies not that they are naughty, on all occasions the food was very good and the staff were really nice, the other plus for us was they served food all day when we go out for the day we don’t like to be restricted to eating times so this place ticked many boxes for us, would definitely return

I like the Rodney. The staff are always friendly the food is good and the tables are well spaced - leading to a very comfortable dining experience. They do however run out of the specials quite quickly so going early in the evening is advisable if you want the full menu - personally the rest of the menu is good so I wouldn't bother.

We stayed at the Admiral Rodney and decided to take our evening meal in the restaurant. Staff greeted us as soon as we arrived and showed us to a table in the refurbished restaurant which is very light and airy. Great choice on the menu and everything was cooked as we had requested. Really pleased to order steak and it to come cooked as ordered.

Not been here for a while and it's all changed. Really nice, cosy and comfortable decor in the bar and restaurant and a decent sized beer garden.

Visit to the seaside wanted fish and chips, as I'm gluten free I usually struggle. Not here have gluten free on the menu, also curry sauce. We both had regular fish and chips, mine was wrapped separately from husbands as he had normal.Great portions glad we didn't go for the large.

Had a couple of roasts today which came with free desserts. Meal was lovely, fresh, hot, just what you expect. We was really happy with that.....but....half an hour after leaving we realised we had left a bag behind. Money, cards, car keys, medication, all stuff hard to replace when on holiday. We returned to the Windsor and the lady who was serving, cleaning etc said she saw the bag as soon as we left, so put it safe behind the counter. Panic over. We can't thank you enough xxx

Can't begin to say how bad this pub was, miserable landlady and landlord and the worst food I have ever not eaten. I say not eaten as we didn't get through even a quarter of the plate of awful food we were offered. My husband said the beer was okay but please don't bother with the food it REALLY ISNT WORTH IT.

We went specifically to this venue for breakfast. We ordered different breakfasts and made some changes to one of them with the helpful counter staff. The tea in the tea pot was cold and we took it back for a replacement hot tea pot. The breakfast was brought to us by a member of staff who did not smile or speak. Having ordered extra well done bacon we were surprised to note that it certainly hadn't been even well done. The plates were cold and so was half of the breakfast, the rest of it cooling rapidly. The toast and prepacked butter were placed on the top of the breakfast and we had to use our fingers to try and get them off the top, even though there was nowhere to put them (have they never heard of side plates)? All in all, very poor. Customer care is clearly not a priority.

Visited here yesterday as we have done many times previously and i was on my VERY SMALL electric scooter (ES). It was quite busy but not full as it is fairly small inside. Myself and my scooter took up the same amount of sitting on the chair as i was situated so i didn't need to use their chair and if on a large bike this would not have been possible. However a young girl asked if i could leave my ES outside and walk in which i could not as not able to do so. I replied we have been in there previously and had never been an issue but she said the couldn't allow it when they were busy. I would not have gone in if i was going to cause an issue or restrict any of the pathways and so i felt i had to leave, which we did. However there was 3 tables occupied by approx 12 men who were blocking pathways and not eating anything and were loudly talking to each other across the tables who were who were quite clearly obstructive but seemingly that was ok !!! I am disgusted in this day and age that such discrimination persists and i will not use them again. Perhaps they need to add a sign to the windows stating people with mobility aids would not be allowed in busy periods. Totally Disgusted. LInda Halls
