I'm getting sick and tired of writting good reviews about this place, but what can i do. Yet another great meal from acorn chop suey, salt and pepper spare ribs, house special chow mien, chips and a pot of curry sauce. Good portions, well packaged so stays hot. Friendly staff, corvid safe. All in 10 mins at a very respectable £17.20. Plenty for 2 people total bargin. Always go to bed full.... ha ha. Thumbs up👍😎

Salt and pepper munch box might as well have been called a salt box as wasn’t one poxy pepper and the portions have down sized since the price went up 👀

Salt & pepper munch box is vile 🤢🤮 You can eat out for what these takeaways are charging now. Garbage, overpriced food I could do better at home. How can you get egg fried rice wrong in a Chinese, dry & tasteless. Clearly most places don't care about returning customers now

Wouldnt even give it a 1 star. Ordered a simple curry and chips. 2 people came in behind and order several much more complicated dishes than mine. 10 mins later they got their food and when asked my curry and chips were gonna be another 5 minutes. WHAT THE??? Is the kitchen in shambles or do they just ignore little dishes and favour the big orders to get the money/spenders coming back. Either way that was a joke of an experience and I will NOT be recommending anyone goes near the place.

They dont care about people with allergies, asking about allergen basically annoyed the woman and she was like I do not have time do you want it or not

Love ordering takeout from this lovely restaurant... food is always on point... The only reasons I am holding back one star is because, they have recently reduced their king Prawn portion in their Fried Rice menu, don't open on Tuesdays (which can be a bummer) and also can be rude when speaking to them on the phone and they fail to understand your order.

Was told to pay cash, and then they refused my Scottish notes, and gave me no clear reason as to why. Once I got English notes I was then not given any change back. On top of that the salt and pepper chicken was awful, rubbery, greasy, chewy and tasted horrible. Chips, curry sauce and egg fried rice were good though.

Jag bodde i Newcastle för mer än 5år sedan och brukade då alltid gå hit för en Take-Away. När jag nu återvände till Newcastle var det lika bra som tidigare, helt klart en favorit! Maten är enastående, stark rekommendation. Ett anspråkslöst ställe utifrån, men med riktig topp mat där alla smakerna sitter!

Been here many times over the last couple of years. Service is always quick, food is hot and tasty and service is friendly.

Whenever I came up to Newcastle, I stayed in Osborne Road & this was the nearest Chinese take-away. They may offer a delivery service now but I'm unsure. I used to go & pick up our food as the hotel was literally a 5 minutes walk away. They offer the usual dishes you'd expect but also such delights as an extra portion of wok-fried cashew nuts so these can be added to any dish. They also sell such things as Salt & Pepper munch-boxes. The food was very good quality; the counter staff were friendly & efficient & there was usually a queue outside the door, especially at the weekend. They are open daily from 17.00 - 22.00 (22.30 on Fri & Sat) but closed on Tuesday. They also open between 12 & 14.00 for lunch on Thursdays & Friday.

We’ve used this Chinese for over 10 years & it used to be nice . Over the last 2 months we’ve had a takeaway it’s definitely gone downhill . The chicken doesn’t taste like chicken or look like it & the curry sauce tastes burnt like it’s been in a burnt pan . The salt & pepper chicken & prawns is far too hot & hard . Prawn crackers greasy & awful ,once they had really nice ones but then said they couldn’t get them anymore .Something has drastically changed & you’ve lost our custom we won’t be ordering again , no recognition for long term customers not even a free calendar for new year . Up your game . Staff always nice usually & card machine often doesn’t work & it’s cash only not many people use cash these days . Avoid

The best Chinese takeaway in Newcastle.

The quality and freshness of the ingredients is excellent, but some of the dishes are a bit weird… I ordered a kung po dish and it was basically sweet and sour sauce with some cashew nuts and chilli added. It had pineapple in it ffs!

Services here is excellent with any fuss!! I love the special fried rice 💕💕💕

Good food and munch box great value

Not giving 1 star only for service as it was good. Crispy King prawn balls looked like fortune cookies, too overcooked and tasteless, had to crack them apart to find chewy prawn, this is 3rd time Iam getting something from this takeaway and all 3 was bad. Never go back again

Best curry sauce anywhere. Card machine now. A Jesmond perennial favourite. Superb menu of delicious choices. Friendly and personable service at all times.

Get your dinner here you won’t regret it

We regularly use this as an after pub meal on way home they're all very friendly staff & always greet us when we go in. Food is tasty & good value. For my partners birthday recently they gave him 2 free bottles good wine & extra king prawns which were extra large. We have no complaints about Acorn at all. We'll done acorn .

Without dought the best special curry i have ever had i am working up newcastle and contemplating getting some to take home for weekend. Best ever. Getting one tonight

Absolutely vile! I got a salt and pepper munch box and oh my god it was rank chewy and full of grease like they were made yesterday and re-dipped to re-heat today 🤮 the gravy had about an inch of what looking like cooking oil on top and the actual gravy never had any taste so so plain and same with curry very weak and plain I asked for egg fried rice and it tasted like white boil on the bag rice not a pick of taste, the most appetising thing about the entire meal was the onions we will not be going back!!!

Eaten from here twice now, both times below average. Won't be back

The most delicious salt and pepper chips me and my friend have ever had! We would consider living there .... I have never been so speechless by chips before .... go here .... or never face chips like this again..... I love the acorn.... and I will always stand by this !

Great price, quick service and super friendly

Not a lot to say other than the service was quick, efficient and the food was hot and tasty. My only criticism is why do we still have to pay in cash?

We regularly get this dish sometimes really good other times not so good depending on chef & size of prawns.we never get the prawn crackers free like we used to. Its generally ok for quick meal on way home from pub.

Had a chicken curry with rice from here served me at 10:55pm staff were friendly and the food was piping hot and great taste, spot on 👍

Disappointed... I ordered my meal then I was informed “Cash only”... nearby Cash machine not working had to drive further afield for another Cash Machine ... .. when two meals cost over £20.00 there has to be enough profit in that transaction for any small fee charged by a Card Company ... or are there other reasons for requesting Cash only ... I will not use this Takeaway again ...

This Chinese takeaway was recommended to us by locals who travel a distance as they rate it so highly and we weren't disappointed. The chicken curry was great!

Had been in the past and vowed never to return - but I did and it hasn't changed, I have no beef with the staff, just with the food, which was dreary beyond belief. I'm not sure they know any other veg but onions.

Rude, beyond belief! It’s 10:50 pm and I’ve called to place an order. Her rude Heigness answers the phone and starts to take my order (chips & noodles). So far, so good! Then, I ask, what special noodles can I have? She asks: what d’ya want? I ask her to “please let know what noodles you have on the menu?”. She barks at me, saying: “ no noodles for you, we close in 10 minutes” and hungs up on me. There you have it; a pleasantly polite lady who likes to put cash into a till. Lazy & rude!

It's a gem of a place been hear for year's on Acorn road west jesmond, reasonably priced plus it's next to Tesco Metro Express for your other needs.

I know the history of this place going back over 20 years. Therefore I know that it has only changed hands once in over two decades and that was relatively recently. I'm glad to report that the quality has not deteriorated, as do so many takeaways when they change owners. You get used to your favourite dish and the new guy changes it! How dare they! This is a Chinese takeaway a Chinese person would go to.

This take away has a large menue with friendly owners. The place is always clean and never heard of any problem with food. Food id very tastey and the service is fast and of high quality

Sweet n sour soup went straight down toilet. Like a bowl of vinegar. Was disgusting .never had one so bad as this.

Good portion sized food and absolutely worth for the price you pay! Food piping hot and fresh. The lunch deal is to die for if you're craving for nice Chinese and live close by. For us it's just a minute walk and we absolutely adore this gem.

Monday generally being hairdressers and chinese takeaways holiday, advantage this place. Aromatic Duck dry, Singapore vermicelli quite soggy nevertheless spicy, beer mat textured chips, decent fried rice, tasty beef curry laden with onion. Must try harder.

Friendly service. Always had good hot food. Not a la carte but what takeaway is. And by the way, the comment that they don't do tofu, get a life.

Ordered chicken in oyster sauce with fried rice. Came to £6.20 so not TOO bad, especially for Jesmond. The place itself is slightly soulless but to be honest, you're in and out within about 7 minutes so it really doesn't matter. The food I thought was very good. The fried rice was well cooked and the oyster sauce dish was similarly nice. Often chinese takeaways make these dishes far too soggy - leaving the rice to go similarly 'wet'. Not so here. Really good range of vegetables in the dish and the pak choi was a pleasant surprise. The meat didn't seem of the most wonderful quality but I thoroughly enjoyed this meal overall.

As soon as I stepped foot in the venue, I knew something magical was about to happen. The second the words 'Kneehow!' left the attendants soft lips, I could feel myself quivering with anticipation for the bombardment on my tastebuds that was sure to unfold. I ordered number 17, 52, 61 and 74 before sitting down and pondering whether my order would be as much of a delight as I the experience so far had promised. I was not disappointed....

Meals are of a good standard and menu is comprehensive, can phone in orders. Prices standard. Can get quite busy towards the end of t he evening especially as in student area - however this does mean quick turnover of food.

Absolutely shocking value... Salt & pepper chicken main looked like golden nuggets. Burned rice. Salt & pepper chips filled with onions. Cost about £9 and I'm not even full. Very poor

Very reliable Chinese restaurant. Always a smile and the food is great. Anything under the chilli salt & pepper menu will not disappoint - for a guilty treat try the salt & pepper chips!

As an indigenous bloke I'm fairly devoted to the native Jesmond cuisine so when recently informed that this place had yet again changed its ownership I quite naturally decided to go for it! Aromatic crispy Duck, Beef curry with fried rice ALL very, very tasty indeed, I will return.

Little pricey but the food is worth it.
