Acorn Bistro & Restaurant in South Gloucestershire

Changed owners in January 2024 and is now called Madison's. Food excellent.

Café is now called Madison's. The staff were pleasant, it wasn't busy when we went for breakfast. There is plenty of indoor seating and lots of car parking available. The food was OK, but the cost was a bit of an eye-opener for the breakfast and drinks.

Excellent service best breakfast around this area.

Very jolly fried breakfast, pleasant staff, tidy and well run

What a breakfast!! We were working nearby and really needed a full monty English breakfast but could only think of the local garage until one of the crew noticed this gem of a place. We thought it was the garden centre!! Really fantastic plate of good English food. Service was brilliant and not a bad price for a full plate of happiness.

Waited 40 minutes for a few toasties. Ran out of time. Staff were lovely. But left with an empty belly. Too slow.

Lovely lunch. Can recommend the paninis (comes with salad and chips) delicious and good value. Service was brilliant. Will revisit 😊

Didn't know it had re-opened as a bistro/restaurant. We went for brunch and only stayed for a cuppa as we were the only ones in there. Could do with some music playing possibly. More on social media might help as only noticed when passing and thought it had opened as the old acorn.

Great little place. We stopped for a coffee. Great cakes too. The rest of the menu looked really good too.

Quite an odd cafe, especially for a garden centre. The atmosphere is dark and moody with a feel more like a mini nightclub. We only stopped for coffee which was ok with a price of £2.59 for an Americano.

ACORN BISTRO and RESTAURANT is the new name. Completely different establishment to before. Now an Italian Restaurant. Great changes made and very welcoming. Lots of changes on site as well. Photos and previous information not relevant.

Fantastic value. Great service and food in abundance. Also dog friendly!

Now under new ownership with good access, bigger outdoor seating area and new look restaurant serving Italian dishes for a reasonable price. I went for lunch but they do evening meals and cocktails as well. Most importantly it was clean, tables got cleared quickly, the staff were attentive and friendly. They had some tasty looking cakes so I'll have to come back and try those out.

The Acorn has been taken over and although not actually open fully until the 16th July, the owners served us 2 lovely omelettes, very nice coffee and were very pleasant and friendly

I don't even know where to start, but I will try. Past experience, amazing food was having a good day, so wanted good food. Current experience staff all over the place food came out quickly after trying to explain we wanted a breakfast and pulled pork baguette. The breakfast was a mess bacon, which looked like it had all been shredded and put in a little pile eggs way over cooked and dripping with oil sausages cold and had a very weird taste hash browns looked like they had gone for a dip in the sea. Toast was nice, and the beans. Coffee I had one sip not good cost 10.50. The pork baguette was microwaved, so it was soggy in parts and felt like rubber in other parts. No sauce cost 9.50, not a good place would not recommend possibly maybe just a tea 😉

Breakfast was warmed up in microwave really small breakfast for nearly £8. Got our toast 15 minutes before our actual breakfast. Thought it was greasy and Luke warm. Took ages to get a coffee. No menus and dirty tables everywhere.

Think they were short staffed but we had to wait 45 mins for a simple lunch. Couldn't cope with only 15 customers to cater for. Won't be returning in a rush. When food arrived it was was nice.

In the past it has always been very busy.

Stopped here for a light lunch after a walk with the dog on Yate Common. Very dog friendly restaurant and the food was excellent. I had a tuna melt panini, which came with side salad and crisps. Plenty of filling in the panini and the right amount if salad and crisps. Will definitely return.

Noisy and didn't bring requested order after a long wait.

Just stopped for a coffee, which was reasonably priced unlike some places these days. Saw they were doing Sunday roasts for £10.50, which looked very good. Quite a few customers all eating it, so that's a good sign. Even had a few people dropping by to get a takeaway. Eat inside or outside. It's right next to Oakley Green garden centre, so 2 things to do in the one visit.

Very good meals and also slimming menu, staff very friendly, and very clean highly recommend.!!

This was a bit or a surprise find when out for a walk along the old railway line. Great place.

What a great cafe. Came here today for a Sunday roast. Great quality meats to choose from. We went for lamb and pork, but chicken or beef also available. It came with all the trimmings you would ever want. To top it all they are dog friendly and Poppy got a sausage. Staff so warm, welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend and will be returning soon.

Everything is freshly made on the premises and that’s reflected in the quality of the food. The staff are super friendly & helpful. Defo going back soon.

Welcomed us, we were told to sit ANYWHERE so sat down, then ask to moved as the table we sat was reserved! Yet no sign to say this... so we sat at another table and where told someone would be over to take are order shortly. It was not busy yet after waiting for 10 mins and watching as others came in and were having there orders taken myself and my husband waited another 5 minutes ....15mins in total and still nothing so we left massively disappointed.. Will not be returning and would not recommend.

Decided to go out for Sunday lunch. Never been to the Acorn before so seemed like a good idea. Pleasantly surprised. Lovely roast lamb and cauliflower cheese. Really, really sorry that I didn't have room for one of the great home made deserts😞. Never mind will keep a space next time.

My family and I celebrated my husband's 80th birthday here recently and the venue was brilliant we had 40 guests and the staff put on a delicious finger buffet / cream tea for us. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. The venue was delightful , cosy, comfortable and everyone really enjoyed themselves. I can highly recommend the Acorn to everyone.

We have been before and enjoyed the experience. This time however, was a disaster. Arrived before the rush for Sunday lunch and waited an hour for one of our two dinners. The other got mixed up and they served the same dish my wife was meant to get to someone else who arrived long after us. Fair enough, mistakes happen, but I was then still sat there for 30 minutes with my cold food while waiting for my wife's to come and in the end we cancelled it (after waiting another 10 minutes just to speak to someone). They were obviously having a hard day (we were not the only customers unhappy). One of the staff was quite happy to sit down and have her own dinner while we were waiting for ours and she was not particularly welcoming or friendly. For what it's worth, the lamb dinner looked good but I didn't want to eat much of it after the experience. There was no acknowledgement or apology for the poor experience.

We used to go Acorn cafe for breakfast fairly regularly...after our visit this morning I don't think we will return unfortunately. Extremely fatty bacon - £1.75 per extra slice Mushy undercooked Richmond sausages have replaced the lovely farmhouse sausages they used to do. Asked for 1 pot of tea and ended up with two cups of tea at £1.75 per tea bag. Very expensive Quality gone downhill Much nicer breakfasts elsewhere.

So disappointed. Ordered food, waited for an hour. My husbands roast came but when I asked about my order it hadn't even been put through. I get that things go wrong but no apology was made at all. Appalling service. It's such a shame as the food is really good. If you can get it! We have been a few times but wont be going back anytime soon.

Came here with my sister for a quick lunch, it wasn't too busy, not a long wait for your meal. There is a very good variety of choice on the menu. The staff are very welcoming, the food was tasty and good value for money. It's in a good location, especially if you don't want to go into Yate or Chipping Sodbury which is local to me. Would recommend. There's plenty of parking and for garden lovers there is a garden centre with farm shop next door.

Service is dismal. Ordered a cake and a can of coke, waited for ages. Told the person behind the counter forget the cake, will just have the can to take away, tried to charge me £5.00.

The food is always fantastic, proper home cooked meals served with a friendly face in a relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to get back, the Roast Dinners are sooooo nice.

Been a regular for nearly 7 years now and have never been disappointed!! Jacqui is amazing and will go above and beyond to make your feel welcomed and enjoy your visit, likewise with all the lovely staff! Food is 10/10, all home cooked and fresh! Few of my favourites that I have to recommend - chilli con carne, chicken curry, Breakfasts are amazing, heathy options and vegan also available!! all sandwiches are fresh with the most gorgeous bread and the roast dinners on Sunday are AMAZING, I have them nearly every week! Also.. gets very busy so if there’s a larger group of you I would probably ring up and book a table, just to save disappointment!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5star!!!

Great food at the Acorn every time, Took a large party for a roast and service was brilliant. Food all nice and hot and freshly cooked, Even do take away.

Jackie does the most amazing home cooked food and cakes always greeted with a smile from the friendly staff , great place to stop off for a bite to eat on a sunny day (or a rainy day too) !! has nice comfortable chilled feeling indoors and great green outdoors area to enjoy your food in. Top tip it can get busy here so if you don't have time to wait call ahead and sort a take away ! Ps save yourself the hassle of cooking on a Sunday and get a takeaway roast dinner and slice of cake vegan options also available!! (Sounds like I work here, I don't I just appreciate good quality home style cooking :-) give it a try and thank me later !

Prices are a Little on the dear side, But Apart from that it was Very plesent.

Food was lovely and enjoyable however I think having to pay extra for cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire on a roast *esp the veggie one* isn't good value for money.

This is our first visit to the Acorn Cafe we were very impressed with our lunch time meal of Ham Egg and Chips it was delicious and plenty on the plate, there is a supstatchle menu board due to covid restrictions we were expecting a menu at the table (forgetting the times we live in at this moment in time ) we shall visit again ASAP :) :)

Nice spacious environment with outside seating as well. Lady running it is extremely nice. Food is very good. Selection of good cakes too. Unfortunately the FIFTY MINUTE wait from arriving at the time booked to finally receiving the meals was agonizing especially as my step-mother has a disability and she really struggled with the long wait to the point where she didn't eat much when the meals arrived.

Swearing staff,20 minute wait for toast even though cafe was empty, only accepting cash today but they didnt bother informing the customers .wont be bothering to make a return visit

Sunday lunch to totally die for!!!!!

Avoid the tradional breakfast it's awful. You don't even get a plate it's just all chucked into a foil tray with plastic cutlery? Which you pay 8 quid for you got 1 rasher of bacon and 2 very small tasteless sausages.. and freezing cold beans to go with the burnt toast thays like biting into a brick.

Phoned for takeaway, was told to leave in 15 mins, got there, Long wait. Got food. Another long wait to pay. Only accept cash (no mention of this), but don't have change when you pay with a note. Food was acceptable, but luke warm after the long wait to get it and then pay. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day due to the reviews. However won't be going back.

Really liked this had a fab cheese and pickle sandwich, it would have been a five but I didnt like my pickle on the side and I like both slices of bread buttered, but a great cuppa!!!
