Acanthus Restaurant in Windsor and Maidenhead

Staff was not able to describe or advise on the available meals or drinks, service was slow and inefficient. The first time we got home made ice tea from the bar and the second time it was not there anymore. Food is very average and value for money is poor.

I booked this Restaurant to take my friend to lunch some weeks ago. I booked for 3 people for 1pm on 17 April. On our arrival at 12:55 the restaurant was absolutely heaving with people. I was then told that because of a Conference we could not eat in the Restaurant. I could not believe it having driven from Kent to Berkshire a one and a half hours drive we were offered a table in the bar area. I appreciate that the hotel were covering extra people but it would have been very helpful to us to be told in advance and we could have found an alternative venue as my friend has just lost her husband. We were offered our drinks free of charge but we declined as that is not why we complained, a simple phone call would have been much better. However the food was good but it's put us off going there again. I would advise anyone booking to eat in the restaurant to check first if the hotel has a conference on before going.A very disappointed customer.

Went as part of a sun to Mon spa break. Light snack at lunch was nice. Soft calamari and prawn salad. Service is very friendly. Expensive drinks be careful. Dinner we had steak which was cooked well. Disappointing was worst desert I’ve ever had. Chocolate fondant was totally dry and disgusting, Event burnt! Shouldn’t have been sent out. but got refund as staff agreed. Breakfast ok, fairly good selection although found sausage a bit dry and chewy and I prefer crispy bacon. We’re cereals and fruit too.

Absolutely amazing service. The food was exceptional, I ordered the Venison and it was delicious. The Chef, Myron (I think) certainly deserves a mention. Brilliant.

We had dinner here during our stay in the hotel. It's quite elegant and prices reflect this. Staff were very friendly and overall we had a great experience.

We used this restaurant whilst staying at the hotel. We had two breakfasts and one evening meal. All staff were so polite and inviting. The breakfast were good, with plenty of choice. The dinner was beautiful. So much so that we had three courses - pretty unheard of for us, but great. Would certainly return

We ate here for lunch as part of a spa day and the food was delicious. Big thanks to Jack for his excellent service, it made all the difference :)

The restaurant looked nice and the staff did their best. But the food is extremely overpriced and tasted bad. We had simple food (limited menu) and it tasted oily, soggy and the chips were refried. I don’t recommend to go. Waste of money.

We booked this place for Pre-Ascots lunch. Limited menu but more importantly extremely poor quality food and overpriced. We paid 300£ for 8 people and the food was below par. Fish was soggy and steak was horrible. I would not recommend this to anyone.

The restaurant has a pleasant ambience and the staff were helpful and attentive. Our chosen mains of lamb and sea bass were delicious. We were surprised to be charged £1 a slice for bread. The 12.5% optional service charge was added automatically without comment. We dined there only once because we were told the limited menu did not change from day to day.

Was here for dinner and then again breakfast, both meals were fantastic and the staff in the restaurant are polite and helpful and attentive. Couldn't find fault in anything *****

Booked an afternoon tea and we sat on the terrace in the sunshine which was lovely. But the afternoon tea itself was very average. All tasted as it should but for the cost (£27 per person) is was very underwhelming. Only one small pot of tea offered, no refill and my husband asked for coffee and got just one tiny tea cup of coffee, no pot and no offer of more. Usually get offered top ups. Difficult to catch staff eyes to even ask for more. I love afternoon tea and have had a fair few in my time and this one just lacked little touches which for me, is what makes it special, especially at £27. Had better, much cheaper ones which were much nicer.

Incredible breakfast, was very tasty and the filtered coffee was great. Was included with the room, but tasted and looked like we were in a swanky London café

Excellent food and service. Starter, main course and sweet were all fantastic. Cannot fault my choice. Congratulations to the chef.

Can’t follow the recent evaluation of other guests. Stayed in the hotel for some days, and we spent 4 evenings in the restaurant. Food was good and especially the service was friendly and competent. We don’t understand the critics of others.

Dinner was absolute shambles. Food was ok but service terrible. Ingredients missing off plates and when asked for it they tried saying the butternut was inside the mash which most definitely wasn't and eventually bough us the butternut out but wasn't heated up. Staff couldn't understand anything we were saying and English a bare minimum so pointless even having them there apart from clearing plates and bringing it out. Main came out at room temp. Didn't have enough staff for how many tables there were- waited an hour for our pudding- even chased it up after 30 mins and was told it would be coming and didn't check with the kitchen. After 45 minutes I had to get up to find a waiter to discover the order had been forgotten to put through the till. They bought out 2 glasses of champagne for us when we asked for the bottle of Prosecco which was incl in our package. A Waiters phone rung on loud while we were being served and he stop pouring our drinks and went to answer it. We were constantly asked if food was ours as they didn't know which table the food was going to. We were offered a drink after our meal to apologise but the cocktail my partner asked for they didn't have 3 of the ingredients and bar man didnt even know what the drink was and had to read it off the menu. He also gave him cheap whisky instead of the monkey shoulder it stated. We didn't even attempt to go to the spa the following morning as originally planned and breakfast wasn't great- hard overcooked hash browns and a hard boiled fried egg. I had a bit of cooked breakfast, then cereal, then a croissant and had to stack my plates up at the side of the table as weren't cleared the whole time we were there or by the time we left.The list could go on.

Staff were overwhelmed at dinner & even more so at breakfast. Meal was average for the price. If a table is booked for a certain time, then shouldn't it be reserved?

TheSpa visit was great but nearly spoiled by restaurant . After my daughter had booked a month prior on line there was no record of this, We did not stay for lunch. Poor service, rude staff and terrible lunch menu.
