Abys in East Devon

Absolutely excellent, welcoming staff, excellent location and setting. The food is excellent and presented very well. Highly recommended. Faultless

Stopped here after a dog walk along Exmouth beach. Dogs are allowed outside, and whilst quite breezy, it was fine as this lovely cafe/restaurant has a high glass barrier to protect you against the elements! The staff are exceptionally friendly and efficient, and the welcome alone would ensure I return the next time I'm visiting Exmouth. The sandwiches and coffee were just what we needed before a long drive home. This lovely place is a little jewel and I would recommend you seek it out next time you visit Exmouth.

Lovely little place, looks like a cafe but the menu offers so much more. There was 8 of us for lunch we all ordered off the menu, food was amazing, great size portions. Staff lovely, will go back again.

This was our second visit to Abys. Yes, the location is great, yes the food is well presented and tasty, but it’s the service that makes this place special. Always smiling, always welcoming and by the amount of people they knew as regulars we aren’t the only people to think so. My boys especially loved their massive ice creams!

Visited Abys for breakfast with my children on the last day of our holiday and it was fab. Theres a breakfast buffet where you can help yourself to as much as you want once you’ve paid. The staff were very polite, attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend and visit again if we return to Exmouth.

Not so good any more. We visited for breakfast. Pastries consisted of 2 unappetising croissants. On the self service cooked breakfast counter the offering wasn't attractive. I left it, opting for a yogurt flapjack which was sickly sweet. My colleague had the cooked breakfast. It wasn't good. 'Claggy' baked beans and 'hard dry' sausages. The coffee and the service were good. The fixed chairs outside were irritating. A couple of years ago this one of our favourite breakfast destinations. Now it is rather sad, reflected by very few customers when we visited.

We popped in here while out for a walk on the sea front in Exmouth, there is seating both inside and outside but dogs are not allowed inside. We only had drinks but the food and cakes looked really nice. For just drinks you order at the counter but they do offer waitress service if you are having food. All drinks were very nice and tasty, nice to have hot drinks, not like most franchise coffee houses that sell them luke warm.

What a find , after walking round looking for a place to eat that didn't serve all the same food as other places we found Abys , at first we were a little daunted as it was packed , but we liked the menu and decided to try and get a table. We were shown to a table in a side room and the young lady gave us chance to settle before taking our drinks order, she gave us a menu and explained the ordering process. We noticed on entering that they did a full carvery but my granddaughter had already spotted her favourite meal , chicken skewers in pitta , I found my favourite dish , slow cooked belly pork. I have to say the food was exceptional ,it arrived very hot , well presented and it was excellent , full of flavour and a full plate. I highly recommend Abys for really good food .

Has a Seafront location with sea view & some outside seating. Staff pleasant. Coffee reasonably good. Some dishes lacked a certain presentation. Cleanliness not quite what I hope to see.

Come here reasonably regular as the staff are so friendly and the food fantastic. Husband's birthday today so was an obvious choice for us for lunch. Both of us had the belly pork, mash, peas and lovely apple gravy. Had it on many occasions before and never been disappointed. So tender it just melts in your mouth. Will no doubt be there again very soon. Cheers all.

I called in here today for two take away lattes, just a small insignificant order. They were short staffed and apologised that I would have to wait. I was served by a lovely Italian guy? who couldn’t have been nicer to me. Made me and my husband a delicious hot latte with a little biscuit to take out and all with a smile. Next time I visit Exmouth I will be sure to return to try the food too. Such a pleasure today for ‘just a coffee’

Went here for Mother’s Day lunch. What can I say but, a great roast dinner (Carvery) And the staff were excellent, very friendly and attentive. Great place, would highly recommend 🤗

My friend and I went there for an impromptu Sunday lunch. There were 3 choice of meats and the portion size for a small plate was decent. The choice of veg was good and all very tasty! The place was busy and the staff were very friendly and efficient.

Unexpected gem! Vast choice of dishes - had roast dinner which was delicious! Huge Specials board too! Great service! Only 1 tiny flaw, the ketchup on table was a little strange, which only bothered my 11 year old !!

Lovely people,however we stopped going because they seemed to have a bit of a thing about sticking mayo on the meal without asking,I cant stand the stuff so found it somewhat annoying.Anyway today we popped in for the first time in ages and of course the first thing I said when ordering was No Mayo.I'm pleased to report they did serve the meal with no Mayo BUT the peas were drenched in butter despite there being no mention on the menu,so being dairy intolerant I had to send it back.It was sorted out, but why on earth do Abys do this stuff without asking ? Not everyone likes butter or, as in my case, can have it and to be honest I dont want to have to go through a big checklist before ordering,if its not on the menu I dont expect to have it on the plate.

I had a significant concern to raise with Aby’s. I took the trouble to go back in at a time when they were not busy, no other customers there, to quietly mention it. I did NOT raise my voice; I was NOT aggressive; I was expecting nothing more than they would check it through. I have every confidence their CCTV will show this. The way the owner’s youngest son spoke to me makes trying to rate the staff, so difficult & I can only give the lowest rating. That has to be carried forward for the overall rating. How can I rate it for food, drink location? Google map will show there are a number of cafes/restaurants on Exmouth seafront. Some are better, some worse, some more expensive, some cheaper than Aby’s, so for food, drinks & position I will describe Aby’s as average & leave you to decide from your visit. If you have specific needs or your visit to a restaurant/café is important for you, you might find reviews & include some of Aby’s replies to earlier adverse reviews, helpful before choosing. Personally I put more trust in a review that raises both good & poor points.

We have been eating at Aby’s for years and have never been dissatisfied with their food and service. Ashton and his sister Leila are so enthusiastic, friendly, warm and extremely hard working with always a smile on their face. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff of this family run restaurant. They serve all day breakfasts plus buffet style help yourself style breakfast in the mornings most of the year. They do a scrummy carvery on a Sunday and during the week you can order a plated roast or a steak and ale pie with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables (carrots, parsnips, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, broccoli). Plus I must admit of all the places we have eaten Aby’s does the tastiest gravy I have ever had. On their menu is the usual light bites, sandwiches and paninis along with bigger bites such as lasagna, burgers, roast belly pork, scampi, also cakes that can be chosen from the counter or an array of icecream sundae dishes including banana split and knickerbocker glory. They serve delicious hot drinks from tea to a choice of coffees and hot chocolate. I must admit when we go there it is very hard to choose between a delicious breakfast or a roast (which they always put a sausage on), one of their specials ie fish pie, liver and bacon, mussels, lasagna! This restaurant has such a lovely atmosphere with such an abundance of friendly, welcoming workers though they make each of their guests feel more like family calling many by name. Thank you Aby’s for being such a wonderful place to frequent.

This is the second time I have been to Aby’s for a cooked breakfast. I suffer with anxiety and autism and find it difficult going out where there are people round. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and understanding and I felt comfortable there.

We had lunch at Aby’s. The welcome and the quality of the food is exceptional! We noted that regulars are treated almost like one of the family and newcomers with every hope that that they would soon become one. In short, the attitude of the management and team is exemplary. Any negative reviews are ridiculous to say the least and, OVERWHELMINGLY, out-numbered by those who clearly love this place. I commend the manager/owner for bravely standing up, with such compassion, in defending the good reputation and standards Aby’s strive for. It appears that most negative reviews are rooted in sour grapes because dogs aren’t allowed inside (though they are on the front terrace!!). By our calculations dogs are allowed in nine out of ten cafes and if dog lovers have no consideration for those who prefer not to sit eating food with dogs around their feet then it’s they who deserve the bad reviews. In short I suggest that they have some respect for those that do not like dogs and head off to the nine other cafes that do welcome them. Aby’s is now our ‘go to’ place for coffee and food, knowing that the experience will always be of the highest standard and, for us, dog free - I hope other cafes will follow your example!

Trip to Exmouth for brisk walk along the front, no plans. Saw Aby's appeared reasonably quiet in their conservatory so decided to pop in for (yet another) lunch. Husband had cod and chips (one of his faves from Aby's). I thought to try something I've not had there before so tried the Ibizan chicken. Was absolutely delicious, a large very pleasantly seasoned and charred breast, chips, peas, onion rings and a good side salad. Thoroughly enjoyed both meals all the more enjoyable because of the very friendly and attentive staff, they really excell at their customer service and treat everyone equally. Thank you all, what a thoroughly lovely family. We will be back again very soon (hopefully squeeze in another visit before Christmas).

Nice location, friendly staff, though perhaps their internal signage needs altering. 'Please wait to be seated' seems to mean 'you can shoose any table'! Menus are on the table, but you order from the bar. I had the Ibizan lemon and pepper chicken and a bottle of lager. I was a bit suspicious as the 'Ibizan' was spelled wrong, but fine. It was more lemon and turmeric than lemon and pepper, but it was tasty anyway, and well cooked with a nice salad, green peas and oddly shaped chips, all well presented. Prices not unreasonable for a seafront location. I was happy with my lunch.

Excellent service. I’m gluten intolerant and all of the staff knew what i could have. Our table waiter offered to get me gf toast. Food good. Great atmosphere. Nice view.

This is a well located place to eat, right by the sea front. The food was generally good although my soup lacked seasoning. I had thought Aby’s was dog friendly, but you can’t take your dog indoors. We wanted to sit outside in the sunshine in any case, so it wasn’t a problem, but I’d like to point this out to readers.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Aby’s was busy but we were seated quickly. We all had the carvery which generally was very good with ample meat. Only negative was the beef was fairly tough. Potatoes were excellent and the vegetables were ok although a little overcooked as seems always to be the case with a carvery. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The staff were all helpful and attentive.

Friendly service excellent buffet breakfast and good value for money right on the seafront! We are staying in Exmouth for 4 nights and will definitely be using Abys for our breakfasts! I had poached eggs on toast this morning, 3 eggs! Yes 3!! I shall be having the full help yourself breakfast from the buffet tomorrow!!

We’ve been going to Aby’s for the last 12 months at every opportunity when we are down at our holiday home in Devon Cliffs, and it is always one of the highlights of our holidays. Couldn’t ask for a better reception. Every member of staff is so welcoming and friendly, and attentive in giving their customers the best experience. We’ve been multiple times and their buffet breakfast is an all rounder. Plenty of choice and caters for everyone. The fried bread is our personal favourite! Their Sunday carvery is also excellent. Never a disappointed service!

Smashing cod, chips and mushy peas. But it was the service that was stand out. People were advised how long the wait for food would be, rather than being left waiting regardless. And we were not only advised to move inside (to avoid the seagulls) but assisted with the move of our drinks etc. The server deserved every penny of our tip.

We had a fantastic lunch. Food was hot with a decent portion. There is plenty of choice..! Staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. There is a warm and friendly atmosphere. Beers and wines available too. We like the fact that dogs are not allowed inside but very welcome in the outside seating area. Also, smoking is not allowed in either section which is good. Highly recommended for breakfast, lunch or snacks. Take away available.
