If you like ice cream, you will love this place. Excellent range of superb ice cream at a very reasonable price. Great to be able to sit and enjoy it whilst looking over to the Pennines with the production team (Jersey cows) chomping away. Very friendly staff.

We tried the ice cream farm again as friends invited us with them. It's still as grotty and dirty as the last time we visited. The ice cream is good but unfortunately not as good as it used to be. We will not come back and instead drive to Wallings at Cockerham as their ice cream is so much nicer, cheaper and their tea room is immaculately clean. Such a shame as this was a local haunt for years.

There really isn't a better ice cream locally. Lovely jersey cream and fantastic flavours, including the monthly specials (Grasmere gingerbread was epic). Oh, and you can buy jersey milk which makes the most amazing rice pud. All the staff are friendly and do their best to serve you quickly even when it's super busy.

Abbots Lodge is a lovely place to visit. I regularly take my children who love the ice cream and the outdoor play area. It’s a fantastic place to sit in the sunshine and there isn’t plenty of room for them to run around. I was recently introduced to their yummy milkshakes by some friends and can highly recommend them. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the local area. The staff are always friendly and the ice cream is delicious!

This place has gone downhill in the last few years. The ice cream is still nice but the tearoom is disgusting. It is so dirty, there is fly poo on the countertops. There is a bin that is dirty that you have to lift the lid with your hands- a pedal bin would be better. The lady who served us was so rude and stroppy. Really impatient and actually quite ignorant. The two young people serving were pleasant enough. I had a very similar experience last year but returned this year as friends had asked to meet there but I most certainly will not be returning again now.

We visited here this afternoon and all enjoyed the lovely ice-cream. They were delicious. The customer service however was appalling. The young man who served us never greeted us or smiled. He begrudgingly let my daughter try two samples so she could decide which flavour to choose. He was so unfriendly. Clearly a pleasant demeanor and approachable character were not on his resume. He never received the memo about service with a smile. I was also very concerned about his lack of hygiene. He was not wearing any gloves to serve us. He was picking up each cone with his bare hands, in between touching the service counter, his hair, and adjusting his trousers. This is gross. Despite the ice-cream tasting lovely, I really would think twice about coming back if this is the standard of service and hygiene that appears to be acceptable.

We were told about this place by other visitors to the area a few years back. We never got to go then so made a point of visiting on our return to the area. Not worth the extra journey. Small childrens climbing frame which was overcrowded. Huge queue for the ice cream which after 20 minutes barely moved. Didn't see any staff outside the premises at all. Sadly we turned round and left and would not make a point of returning.

Claims to be dog-friendly but an employee was extremely rude to us when our 12 week old puppy had a wee on the grass at the very far end of the picnic area, telling us that she had fouled the children’s play area. She then stated “I hope she isn’t carrying something” which made me wonder whether she should worry more about the people ‘carrying something’ during the current pandemic than a puppy. Unfortunately, for this reason we will not be returning or recommending to family or friends.

My wife and I always come here after our visit to Lowther Castle. The ice cream is rich, and to die for, the milk/cream coming as it does from the on site Jersey herd. We usually sit outside to eat, mixing the taste of the ice cream with farmyard smells associated with a dairy herd. All part of a wonderful experience. There is a small children's play area which seems well used, as the adults enjoy their ice cream. Less than 5 minutes by car from Lowther Castle.

Took our 3 yr old son to Abbot Lodge Farm today. To be fair it's free so you can't expect too much. There's two play areas - a outdoor one which consists of a high slide and a few swings. It's ok but not really suitable for little ones. The indoor play area is on a barn so covered would be a better description than indoor, it's nearly the same as the out door one again not great for toddlers. There's a good selection of ice cream and a sorbet which was great for my dairy allergic child. We wer there just over a hour could have stretched it to 2 hours if weather was better.

On holiday in lake District and the lady who owns our cottage recommended the ice cream place for the kids. It's great for kids! Lots of space to run wild, outdoor play area which they loved, and a few little ride on tractors (which to be honest could do with replacing). That being said, the kids had a ball!! They loved seeing the cows, especially the calves. There's picnic benches dotted around too, so plenty of outside seating if the weather permits (it didn't really for our visit!) In the tea room there was a choice of maybe 12 or so flavours, all the basics and a good mix of others. I'd say something to suit most people. Prices are really really reasonable!! £1.50 for a cone and a huge scoop of ice cream. Bigger ones/multi scoop cones are available of course! To be honest I found the rest of the café a bit of a let down as I don't really like ice cream. The coffee was from a machine and was luke warm, they don't do cakes or anything really just twix and a shortbread type traybake. I know, it's all about the ice cream but I think they're missing a trick!Honestly, I would deff come back. The kids loved it, the ice cream was beautiful and it's a lovely way to spend a couple of hours just relaxing. I think it's a little catch 22. If more people came they maybe make enough money to invest a bit more in the café itself (just felt a bit old and in need of some TLC) and upgrade the coffee etc and maybe do a few cakes/options. Maybe expand into ice cream sundaes........ But people maybe don't come because they don't already have those things. Who knows. However, if we're back in the lakes we'll deff come back. The ice cream is really delicious and the cows are just too cute!!!!!

Visited Abbot lodge today and found the whole story from where the ice cream came from to the ice cream itself great. There's loads of flavours to choose from and a pleasant little cafe eating area. Both indoor and outdoor play area's are provided. My only criticism is that they don't make enough of the ice cream, offering a selection of ice cream dishes such as sundaes etc like a parlour would have improved the place.

We were camping nearby and fancied a couple of hours off the campsite so we drove here after reading reviews. The farm is very clean with three separate play areas for the kids, one indoor and one outdoor, an area kids can play on toy tractors, there are plenty of picnic benches to sit and watch the kids outside if it's a nice day. There is a small area where you can buy their jersey ice cream they make which is absolutely lovely, it is worth visiting their website to see pictures and for more information. We were planning on buying some ice cream to take but its rather expensive, however I was pleasantly surprised at their prices for soft drinks and tea/coffee since it is rather secluded. There is also a place you can view the calves which the kids enjoyed, overall we had a lovely hour or two at the farm well worth the 30 minute drive from Appleby. If you are coming from Appleby careful following google maps for directions as it takes you down some extremely small back country roads. It might be worth plotting your own route.

Came across this place for the very first time today and was really impressed. Between the three of us we had tubs of Mississippi Mud Pie, Rasberry Pavlova, Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream, all of which were absolutely delicious. The staff were all friendly and very polite and the venue was very clean, great place for a stop off if visiting the Penrith area.

Short stop off for ice cream, was very impressed with all the different flavours. If my eyes were bigger than my belly i would have tried a scoop of all the different flavours. Looks like a nice place for the kids in summer with the farm and play areas.

A fly by visit to sample some of the delicious ice cream. The ice cream is very creamy and they have a wonderful selection of various flavours. We visited with our little dog and they were kind enough to let him in. The cows looked very happy and we also got to see some of the calves. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely ice cream and a nice indoor and outdoor play area-they're quite small but my daughter really enjoys playing in them. The coffee is good too and staff are very efficient.

We discovered the Abbott Lodge cafe by following the sign posts near Lowther Castle. It is a little gem and the ice cream was immense! I had a freshly made waffle with Mississippi mud pie ice cream and one scoop was definitely enough! A great place to stop off!

Stumbled upon this place by accident after taking a detour and wish I'd known about it years ago. They have a indoor and outdoor play area for the kids, you can get up close to the Jersey cows and their calfs but best of all their ice cream is to die for and with plenty of flavours to choose from.

Passed here so thought we would pop in. Very disappointed. Other ice cream farms I've visited have lots to see and do. Farm animals. Walks. Tours etc. This was literally a tea room, toilets and a small play park. A couple of calves and a field of cows. We had an ice cream and left after ten minutes. Wouldn't recommend at all.

We came here today as we were camping in the local area and was recommended to us by the owner at the campsite. Lovely little ice cream farm. My daughter loved the playground especially the big slide and sitting on the cow benches! The cows in the field behind the park came over to say hello, and were happy as we fed them some grass!! The ice cream was reasonably priced and a lovely selection! I had two scoop cone - chocolate mud pie and mint chocolate chip. Both tasted amazing! We spent about an hour/hour and a half here.

This was a chance find after a trip to Lowther Castle. The ice cream is delicious, the views are lovely, there is space to sit inside or out, space for the kids to play inside or out, cows in the adjoining field and even calves to view. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic scenery, relaxing area, kids climbing and play area, jersey cows and calfs to see, comfy cafe....and loads of different ice cream, what more can I say.. Defiantly deserves a visit for both young and old, but be warned, once you've been there you going to want to return.

Had an excellent early supper, starters were beautiful, good selection, tasty and well presented . The mains, steaks and a roast dinner were equally good. Substantial portions and cooked exactly to our specifications. We had delicious desserts and everything was complemented by some very good wines. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The chef obviously uses quality ingredients and is extremely competent . Lovely ambience, delicious supper.

While looking for food we stumbled on this lucky find. The Bothy is a very welcoming themed cafe, due to most other venues in Kirby Stephen only serving drinks that day the bothy was busy but we still received a warm welcome and advised we would have a wait, we didn’t mind so placed our order. The food was different, not the cheapest but absolutely delicious, the staff even though very busy were so polite and kept us informed of progress with our order. A bit more of an offer for children would be a bonus.

We go to The Bridge about 4 times per year. We are not very extravagant but when we do eat out we want it to be better than I can make at home. Any guest we bring with us all love it too. Every meal we’ve had here has been excellent! My favourites are Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé, The Seafood Linguini, my hubby loves the Fish & Chips (he has this every time he goes, lol) . My son loves the Squid starter and I also love the Pate when it’s on. I had a gorgeous fish course in spring but I forget the name of the fish which was the whitest fish I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend Bridge Bistro.

Good stopping off point if travelling from the South to Scotland. Comfortable rooms, well maintained. Very pleasant staff. Plenty of parking. Near to Penrith and Carlisle. Nice cosy pub environment with restaurant. Careful what you order! The home cooked food portions are massive 😧
