Abbots Mitre in Test Valley

Popped in for lunch and chose from the set menu offer. Food was of high quality, and the service was swift. Had pork schnitzel with peppercorn sauce, this came with grenadier potatoes and crisped carrots. Sat well on the stomach Pudding was a lemon tart with blackcurrant sorbet. Slid down well with a good balance of flavours.

We were travelling down the A303 and rather than sit in a traffic jam near Stonehenge we thought we'd stop for dinner. The Abbots Mitre is not to far of a detour. Chilbolton is a lovely village and the inn proved to be a find. Food was excellent. I enjoyed a super fish and chips. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was wonderful. I'd love to go back.

We met family here midweek for lunch. A set menu was available which was good value. Our young grandchild and baby were very kindly treated by the staff and their food was quickly available for them. The steak and ake pie was wonderful and the vegetarian falafel delicious. Would highly recommend.

Great food would come again the different types of bread is great so your getting a mix of great bread and the halloumi cheese is great

Lovely lunch and good value for money. We really enjoyed everything about this pub. They have print outs for walks locally and you can park in the car park and walk from there. The staff were all friendly and we will be back soon.

Thoroughly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food was perfectly prepared and nice presentation. Had a lovely salad with the haddock instead of chips, perfect combo and not a boring iceberg leaf in sight! Choice of 0% gins so drivers can enjoy a midday G&T safely. Too full for a delicious dessert so staff were happy to give me one to take out. Suggest you book as was very busy even on a normal midweek lunchtime.

We had a lovely morning at the Longstock water garden and needed a good lunch so headed off to this marvellous pub . My wife had the fish cakes and I had the fish and chips. Menu had lots to choose from and the staff were fantastic. Would recommend to all

I’m on a diet and asked if I could have a mixed salad with my steak instead of chips. The photo is what I got. Beautiful salad with no dressing. Fantastic steak cooked to perfection, mushrooms not swimming in oil, grilled tomato. Such a lovely meal and I took half the steak home and I’m having it with salad tomorrow.

After walking out the Mayfly because of shocking lack of service we thought we wouldn’t be able to get anywhere at short notice on a Sunday for our group of 14 but Abbots Mitre said they could and was only a short distance drive away. We couldn’t have wished for better service and the food was very good . Ok you haven’t got the the river test in the garden as the mayfly has but we definitely won’t be going back as we’ve found a gem at Abbots Mitre . Thank you

Everything you’d want from a village pub. We had fishcake (one of the best I’ve had) and sausages/mash….perfect portion size and very tasty. Really friendly service and very welcoming of dogs (water bowls outside, biscuits inside). Plenty of space and lively ambience. Very pretty Village with a lovely 3 mile circular walk taking in the common and river. 15 mins off the A303 and very well worth a visit.

Been here a few times now and the food is SO good! Service is outstanding and speedy too. Reasonably priced. Not a big menu but a mighty one. Lovely pub..was there for Easter Sunday lunch..very tasty food, family really enjoyed the steak n ale pie, seabass and sausages n mash 🙂 Staff were very friendly and attentive and a excellent menu and range of local ales. Not crowded or loud - voted best pub for our Easter getaway weekend !!

If you’re vegetarian or vegan don’t bother with this restaurant. Only choice was non meat shepherds pie ( 🙄) or mushroom burger. There are so many meat free recipes why would one want a choice of two imitation meat ! The chef needs to realise that you don’t need to base your offerings for non- meat eaters around meat based recipes. Also choice of 2 - c’mon - must do better!

We chose Abbots Mitre for a family country walk and lunch based on previous reviews and were delighted we did. A lovely 5km walk through the Test Valley was rewarded with local beers & gins and high quality food at very reasonable prices. Our new favourite pub near Stockbridge, very highly recommended.

We had fourteen of us for lunch ( family gathering ), and cannot fault the place. Booking over the phone was easy and business like. The dining area when we arrived, was all laid out ready for us. The service from the really friendly staff was great and the menu had lots to offer. Lastly the food itself was cooked as it should be. What a find. We will come again.

My friends and I (and the dog) really enjoyed our lunch at the Abbots Mitre. We each chose different meals, and we were all very pleased with them. Delicious, beautifully served. We liked it so much we’ve booked for next month too!

We get such a warm welcome and love everything about the Mitre. One of our friends is severely sight impaired and the staff were so thoughtful, offering us a table where she could sit beside a wall so other people wouldn't be brushing past. The food, as ever, was absolutely delicious. Our friends are real foodies and love their meat. We are Pescetarian (mainly veg but love good fish). There is always something delicious for us all to enjoy. Two of us tucked into the splendid Spinach Mac n Cheese (no tasteless sauces here!) and the others had the fish and chips. Always up to an excellent standard and beautifully cooked and presented. Smaller portions appreciated for when we bring my parents, and love the dog-friendly bar for a lunch or coffee when out walking with friends and their dogs. We applaud all of the bar, waiting and management staff here. Helpful, friendly, cheering and informative on the food and drink options. Thank you for making every visit such an enjoyable one.

Stopped off for a lunch one Saturday. It was sausage week in the pub as well as the usual menu so lots of choice. Food was good quality and value for money. Service was good and the waitress had a good knowledge of the real ales on offer which is a rare thing these days. I will go back.

Haven't been to this pub for years (in fact since working here) and what a change!! It's been turned into a super restaurant with fabulous food. We came when they had a set menu and it was delicious. I’m not from round this area and visited back in May so as I was in the area again (October) I knew exactly where to go, I was not disappointed, the very friendly and welcoming staff and the lovely food was just as good as before, there was also a drinks station for the dog too, it’s the best all round pub in the area so I would definitely recommend this place 100%

Lovely food and great service but the experience wasn’t too good for the second time and that’s because of flies. They were a real nuisance- the pub is dark and there seems to be no way of getting rid of them - no uv trap. In the winter I’m sure this isn’t a problem but twice we experienced the same. The food and service was excellent however so it’s such a pity this issue remains

I treated my friend to a birthday lunch at Abbots Mitre today and we both enjoyed our meals very much indeed. My friend chose the fish pie and I chose the Pork Belly for mains followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding for my friend and I chose the warm chocolate brownie with caramel ice-cream. We both said this was about the best pub meal we had had for a long time. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful. A delightful old pub in a beautiful old Hampshire village. I would thoroughly recommend Abbot's Mitre for any occasion. I would love to visit again to try their Sunday Roast!

We've had several meals there as a family and as a couple. Staff are very friendly and the food is great. So is the beer. Probably the pub we use most even though it's 10 milkes away as they take Covid seriously.

I visited with my family. Lovely quiet pub, we ate in the garden so weren’t close by to anyone however, I was surprised at the lack of social distancing from staff- they were leaning over us to collect plates even though I was trying my best to avoid it, they also didn’t wear any PPE which surprised me. There was also lipstick on my glass which I thought was unexceptable especially during these times. I told the waitress and her reply was ‘is there?’ And she walked off. All in all food was amazing but the service needed improvement which is a shame.
