We have waited months for our fish and chips and I have to say the fish was outstanding, flakey tasted fresh... its was definitely worth the 14 week wait ❤ honestly the staff are always polite and ask how you are. Worth every penny. Thanks again guys x

So close to Xmas and the cooking over the holiday is a daunting task- but Rita came to the rescue- white flaky fish with a gorgeous batter, fluffy golden chips and Rita’s gorgeous gravy. What a pleasure it is and no washing up! Really enjoyed our tea and will be back after Xmas. Thanks for your wonderful service during the year and the banter and friendliness we always have- you can tell it’s a good chippy when nearly everyone that comes in is known by their first name- oh, and before I forget- thanks for the lovely teas and suppers. Delicious haddock & chips freshly cooked. Friendly service. Perfect In every way including being served just on paper without any nasty plastic containers or polystyrene or any other rubbish. Spot-on highly recommended

This is our local chippy it is very clean and of good service ladies are polite and friendly and the food is average priced. Sometimes the food is not as nice as it could be but you can say that about any chippy Alf n Mary's is very popular and worth a visit if you are like us we enjoy fish n chip takeaway tea once in a while. Alf and Mary left a long time ago so maybe I should just refer it to AnM

Friendly service, a good typical type menu, and exactly what you'd expect from a decent Chippy. The Haddock was spot on, fresh, and very well fried, nice patties and sausage, my only criticism would be the chips were a little soggy, far from inedible, just a bit oily. All in all, a Good Hull Chippy. "We'll be back". That Haddock was top quality.

Took the kids to Pickering park during holidays want sure we’re to eat as not from that area ended up at a and m fisheries got kids a large haddock and chips to share the couldn’t manage it between them as was really good size and kids really enjoyed it staff was very friendly would defiantly go back

This used to be one of the best chippies in hull. But after a recent visit the fish was very poor. A tiny fish in a massive batter, i have no idea what kind of fish it was but it tasted odd!

As a “consumer” of prime fish The haddock is pretty consistently brilliant Skin on for me is a MUST! It retains the flavour and moisture of ANY fish, especially, haddock Mmmmmmmmmm Yummeeeee

I have been going to this chippie for longer than I really care to remember. Over the years it has changed hands from when I used to go as a schoolboy at Kingston High school and a number of years later when I worked on Hessle High Road and I still go now as a OAP with my OH and I can honestly say I have never had anything other than first class service and great food. Its great every now and again to park outside and have whatever you fancy out of a newspaper...……...its the simple things haha.

Recently visited A&M; Fisheries for a traditional Hull tea time snack...Patty Butty and Chips. All deep fried to a beautiful golden colour it was delicious and flattening lol. Would have given 4 stars but it's slightly on the expensive side compared to other fisheries just down the road.

Tried several fish shops some of which I liked some of which I didn’t. Hadn’t been here for a few years so wanted to give it a try. The girls behind the counter were so friendly we felt like regulars. The fish and chips were so good that we came back a couple of weeks later. This has now become our first choice for fish and chips - patties and mushy peas are also very good.

Went in for a fish n chip tea time meal. Sorry to say the food was average warm and greasy. Staff were of clean appearance, friendly, and polite. Average priced food but average fish n chips.

Primera visita - muy impresionado. Así sonó atrasados y pedimos cierre saludó una voz muy amable que dijo, "no te preocupes, prefiero su pedido por teléfono. Llegó 15 minutos más tarde a un sonriente, servicial, Rita que tenía el pedido listo y esperando por nosotros. Pescado - carnes blancas en una masa de luz macizos servido con patatas fritas crujientes macizos muy bien preparado. Sin duda volveremos la próxima vez que estemos en Hull.

Most other chippies have, at times, served me something that I've not enjoyed eating but A&M have never done that despite repeated visits (I live walking distance away). The fish is always delicious, the chips are crispy and piping hot and don't even get me started on Rita's homemade patties... God I love living in Hull.Their hours are quite specific, but that in my experience is common to a lot of chip shops in this city. Lunch is a small enough window of time, but when they say they're open at "tea-time" then they really do mean tea time and don't try the door after about 6:30pm!

I Travel the country a bit and every now and gain you the get the fish n chip urge. I'm usually disappointed and hear excuses about the soggy batter is due to this or that. Well they should find out what these guys do as mine was crispy from end to end !The fish had skin on which personally I prefer and the chips perfect. All served by two really friendly ladies (lunchtime)Think it was about a fiver. Which really is great value too. I will return!

This is not a restaurant, but a very nice clean chip shop with very friendly staff.The food is always freshly cooked and beautiful.It has disability access and if there is a queue, which often there is, because everyone goes there, they will give you a seat, especially if you are frail.They know most of their customers and a lot of them by name.I was once decorating and forgot what time it was. I dashed here, hoping they hadn't closed, but I was too late, they had turned the fryers off and cleaned up and everything. She saw the dissappointment on my face and turned the fryers back on and cooked me my tea. I will be forever grateful for that!

Really nice traditional chippy, went there for a take away for me and the family. The service was fast and I was warmly greeted by the staff, the prices are really good too and great portion sizes.

Traditional fish and chip shop, no frills just good food at decent prices, staff helpful and friendly. Had to wait for the large haddock as they are cooked to order, but it was cooked to perfection. 5 stars!

Used this chippy a lot as a teenager and gone back a few times recently. The place hasn't changed in all that time and remains excellent. Great quality, good value food with decent portion sizes. The patties are the best I've ever had. The staff are also brilliant, so friendly, efficient and welcoming. Even understood when I stood outside to place my order to keep an eye on my toddler in the car. Would really recommend.

I bought supper here sometime ago and queried my change. The staff checked it and I admitted it must have been my mistake but the hostile atmosphere next time I went in was ridiculous! its an average chippy and plenty more choice so I wouldnt recommend to anyone on the basis of customer service.

Yet again, I come back from an overseas trip and oh how I long to have fish & chips from A&M fisheries on Hessle High Road in Hull. They never fail to serve the best quality fresh fish with ample fries and scraps! The shop is spotlessly clean and doesn't smell 'fishy' like in some places you go to......What's also so special about this fish shop is that Rita and all her staff make you feel so welcome. Thank you once again for a lovely fish dinner!

Heard great reports about this chippy. I live north hull so took the plunge and tried it. Let me tell you it is the best chippy I have tasted. Had home made fish cakes which were outstanding filling and full of flavour. Partner had fish which was huge and cooked just right. Highly recommend everyone try this chippy. Me and my partner visited here as we'd seen this place advertised in the Hull daily mail earlier in the year.Firstly I'd like to say a special thank you to the lady who works there as she really is amazing and was so friendly to us and all her customers while we was there.We ordered a large fish,chips and peas and it was so enjoyable in every way that it was like when you was a kid and you ate proper fish and chips when portion sizes were large rather than some of the stingy size fish that some fisheries try to thob off as large!This place brings me right back to were Hull should be on the map for amazing traditional fish and chips wow!!!If they used newspaper I'd of felt like I'd of been back in time.For me overall portion size,taste,cleanliness,staffing etiquette this deserves to be voted number 1 fish and chip shop in Hull!So for me if I was you I'd take a walk or drive there today as you won't be disappointed.I hope this business thrives to success as it deserves it!

Friendly staff, good sized portions and the fish is beaut. Can get a Patty Special for £1.85 cheapest around and it fills you up. The fact that it's been open for so long and still remains today speaks volumes. Best local chip shop around. Highly recommended. A***

Never been here before but we had been held up in traffic which made us late getting home so decided to have some good old fashioned fish and chips. Good size portion and delicious fish , average prices, they offered a smaller portion sizes and I chose this which was plenty for me, my husband has a good appetite so chose the normal portion size , good old mushy peas and salt and vinegar , great for a once in a while filling cheap meal .

I travel to Hull just to eat at A&M all staff are welcoming, kind and always smiling. The fish is amazing. Always happy to skin the fish for me. Had my first homemade Pattie and chips yesterday. 5 stars.

I often pass here on the way to visit my Nanna and as a treat now and again stop off to pick her a square patty and chips up. We have never had any problems with any of the food we have had from here. It is really tasty and always cooked to perfection. Yes the chips are on the pale side but they are still yummy and it must be the season of the potato. I think it's excellent really can't fault anything that I have had from there...

What I can say is it's a smashing chippy well placed for the local people and passing trade, has a couple of bench sets outside if you can't wait to get home or are passing and do not want to eat them in the car. The fish is excellent and usually cooked to order.

Visited again after a business meeting in the city. Arrived at about 1.45pm and I sense they were just about to close but welcome was warm and me and a colleague asked for haddock which was freshly cooked for us. Took about 5 minutes but hey it was worth the wait. Beautiful moist, flavourful fish with really great well done chips.Really a great place to go for lunch. Try it

Visited Friday lunchtime after business appointment in city centre. A local chippy but great fodd. Beautiful crisp and bubbly batter on the haddock which was moist and flavourful. Great chips, hot and fresh. Great value for less than a fiver. Will return next time I am in the area.

Easily the best fish and chips I've ever had. Came here looking at other reviews and it certainly didn't disappoint. The chips are the best I've tasted and the fish is big and so tasty. Golly gosh what a fishy surprise! The staff at A&M put on a romantic valentines day surprise with a twist ( of lemon!). Me and my lovely Yorkshire lassie were treated to the best fish and chips I have ever had, set in the romantic ambiance of a fish shop... Trust me, it works!The fish was delish, chips where amazing and the service was by William g Stewart from 15 to 1... Oops, sorry, I meant second to none! Top marks chaps!

As a local company with over 20 staff in our office, there are 5 chip shops within the local area to choose from (and have tried and tested all of them over the past 10 years+), but always choose A&M!A&M is by far the best, the batter is always light, crispy and consistently fantastic (never "greasy"). we have had very few issues, however the staff are nothing but jolly and willing to help should you point out anything!I have no reservation in recommending this chip shop to anyone.Pat

Went here last Friday dinner half-term family lunch.Bit of a queue but quickly served by unflustered jolly staff.Wife had fish and chips on a large tray-fish hung over the side! She still managed to eat it all! I went 'proper way' in the paper with my fingers! Both children had 'specials' really good value.We all enjoyed it and commented to the staff before we left and they gave us some blue roll to wipe the kiddies hands ect.Looks like a regular outing from now on! Great.

Can't believe the reviews on here? I popped in last week after seeing this fish shop on Tripadvisor over the past few months and thought I would get the best fish and chips ever, WRONG, why would anyone travel from Derby just to buy fish and chips...very strange!! I much prefer Cave Street off Beverley Road or Funky Fish on Holderness Road. My fish was just really poor with pale chips, falling out a piece of newspaper, not even in a bag, never mind a box. Some of these great reviews by new members might be a bit suspect??

We regularly travel from Derby on a 2 and a half hour round trip for the sole purpose of visiting what we believe to be the greatest Fish and Chip Shop in the world. We are both foodies and do a lot of cooking at home due to the difficulty in finding good old fashioned top quality British food when going out. A&M Fisheries, or Rita's as we call it, is simply superb. Fresh, hot and old fashioned ingredients - you can't beat it. There's nothing like it in Derbyshire and along side the Humber Bridge, Rita is the star attraction of Hull.

Disappointed with the fish we received on Good Friday. Got it home and it was dripping with grease, and the batter just fell off. There are better chippies in the area which we now frequent.

I use this place about once a month when going out for lunch from work. Always nice hot fresh fish and chips, friendly efficient service, what more can you ask from a local chippy.

I travel through to Hull every weekend to see my family from Hedon a small village on the outskirts. I never go home with out my favourite bite of fish and chips my fish is always extremely tasty and rich with flavour and chips so easy on the pallet perfect.

My family and I get fish, patties and chips here regular and we always receive a great meal and first class customer service. The food is great value and I consider this the best chippy for miles around. It's always the first meal we have after returning from holiday. I have tried all the rest and always go back to the best.

Whenever I walk into a chip shop I have never used before, I always look at the food already cooked to check at least how it looks, if I'm not happy with what I see I just walk out. When I visited A&M last Saturday, I would normally have walked out, but as I was so looking forward to the fantastic fish and chips as reviewed here on TA and I was with my wife, I kept quiet and bought fish and chips twice. To say we were both disappointed was an understatement, I could not believe the food we were given is the same food with glowing reviews??? The fish was wet, not moist but wet, it did not taste like haddock so unsure what fish it was, the batter was quite dark, not golden, and very 'bitty'(?) fat too hot? The chips on the other hand were very pale and many undercooked. My wife left the majority of her fish and chips, I managed to eat half of mine. I have no idea if this is the norm or it was a bad day, the owner was there and she was as described on previous reviews, friendly and chatty etc, but the food was poor and we would not return, especially when there are so many much better chip shops in Hull. I am puzzled how this can be No 3 on TA?? Sorry to the regulars who swear by this shop, but I have been as honest as I can (my wife would have given it a 1!)

Worth the drive for the best fish and chips in the area. Rita has the best customer service skills ever and standing in the queue is a great tonic, everyone in the area knows it's the best chippie and all are greeted as friends, The food is to die for and if you don't mind not dressing up for a meal this is the place for a great meal, believe me, I have tried them all and this place is the best. Ok, so you see the queues and think, oh no, but they go down quickly and you are rewarded with a great meal, thanks Rita and Phil for excelling in the area and making a lot of hungry people very very happy.

We drive to A&M from North Lincolnshire as it is simply the best chippie for miles. Fresh fish, perfectly cooked and huge portions.

I visited A&M en route to the port (to catch a ferry to Rotterdam) having seen some of the reviews here. The fish I had was the best I have had in a long, long time and probably ever!! THe batter was so light and non greasy and the fish itself was perfectly cooked and so fresh. If you visit Hull, visit A&M - you won't be disappointed. I'll certainly be going again and look forward to seeing the lady owner who was chatty and really friendly.Enjoy!

Travel all the way from Little Weighton once a week especially for the best lightly cooked fish (Whitby Style). Nothing ever comes close to A&M. You can keep your Bob Carver's, A&M is definitely the catch of the day. What's more, always and I mean always, service with a smile!!!

grew up in this area when it belonged to Phyllis and her husband, but have to say it's much better now! Really is the best fish and chips for a long way, not just in Hull, still drive there occasionally from South Cave as it's so good. Fresh fish and they know how to cook it so it's nice and crispy, yummy!

i have been to this chip shop on many occasions and i would have to say that its the best iv ever eaten the staff were briliant and officiant and very chearfull and while i was waiting for my fish and chips i spoke to a coustomer who travels from brough just for the food hear its a 5 on the score on the door and i can now see why. I would advise anyone looking for quality fish and chips to eat there it was a real plesure to be there and a real treat to eat that quality ov food all in all im a very happy costomer
