Had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh and flavourful. A special shoutout to Victoria for her outstanding service—she was friendly, attentive, and made our visit even more enjoyable. Can’t wait to come back!

We had an amazing time at Alaturka in Canterbury. The food was to die for, the lamb shish was melting in your mouth. Finish off with a delicious baklava with loads of pistachio! We would definitely recommend!!! Amazing!

We had a takeaway from here this week and it was absolutely delicious!! Knocked a star off just because the delivery driver struggled to find us so food was a little slow and not hot BUT only the one star for service as the quality of the cooking made up for it in spades! Nice generous portion and the taste was exceptional! Best lamb I've ever had! So juicy and tender and the spicing was just perfect. So pleased I chose the addition of yoghurt & pitta with the rice as it brought the whole meal together. Will definitely be ordering again. A little pricy but totally worth it! ♡

I was left with a very very bad impression of this restaurant, the first thing I made a reservation for was a large table and asked for flowers on the table, they said OK. They gave me the smallest table I had, a round one, they put me next to the door and the air conditioner didn't work... the food was delicious, ok. All the time something was falling from the bar, bottles, glasses, the payment machine... A Turkish restaurant but there was no Turkish music... we listened to music that we listen to every day on Radio 1 or Capital Extra

They charge £9 for a small plate of tzatziki (Cacik) because they call it a “starter”. And it was awful how the woman in charge treated the staff. For that i’d give them 0 stars.

Went for a nice New Year’s Eve meal and had family come from London , female waiter was not service friendly and food was horribly stale rice was hard and clumpy we ordered the sharing platter for 4 rice was a small portion though it was horrid so not a bad thing they also forgot 3 of our drinks and tried to charge us luckily when asked they removed it off the bill its a shame as we were really looking forward to this meal as we booked in our advance we have been to the other a la Turka in Canterbury and it was. No where near this poor sadly this is a place we would not recommend as we will never return

Went for lunch with friends last Monday. We ordered and shared lots of small dishes. The service was superb. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. We were made to feel very welcome. Warm and friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

I recently attended a Christmas gathering with my work colleagues, and it was truly a night to remember. Dorota’s exceptional service made the evening seamless and enjoyable. She was attentive, professional, and brought a warm, festive spirit to the event. The food was lovely and perfect for the occasion. Slow service, small portions , many items were missing from the breakfast plate ( eg. grilled pepper , aubergine) and they serve 1 thin slice of cheap sucuk . Feta cheese was more like a cream cheese and they served thin pita bread instead of bread alongside the breakfast. Cannot recommend this place for breakfast

I booked this restaurant for a group of 8. We were greeted and seated promptly and drinks came soon after ordering. Our food was varied, good quality and cooked well. Our waitress Dorrin was superb throughout, very knowledgeable and a great communicator. Thanks all for a lovely evening.

Had dinner at A La Turka, West Gate, and it was fantastic! The Mixed Shish with Yoghurt and Chicken Wings were delicious, with great portions. The service really stood out—our server, Dorien (hope I’ve got the spelling right!), was so attentive and even made us lovely coffees to round off the evening.

I recently visited Alaturka , and it was a truly memorable experience! The menu offered a fantastic selection of authentic Turkish dishes, and the food was absolutely delicious, especially the chicken casserole ,vegetarian Musaka and the starters which was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The portions were generous, and each dish was clearly prepared with great care and the freshest ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed and even gave great recommendations. Whether you’re a fan of Turkish cuisine or looking to try something new, Alaturka is a must-visit. The combination of delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service makes it a place I’ll definitely return to.

Last Saturday,here’s my first day in Canterbury. Although the food tasted good, a rude staff member left me with a very bad impression. When I asked for some water, she didn’t respond but instead asked if I had finished my meal. Ignoring my request, she started wiping the table. When I asked again, she loudly and rudely repeated, “Can you wait one second ? One second. Just one second ”—very impolite. To make matters worse, when she finally brought the water, she grabbed the rim of my glass with her hand. I hope staff training can improve their professionalism. However, another staff member, Tara, saved this terrible evening.

I had dinner at A La Turka, West Gate recently, and it was such a great experience. I went for the Ali Nazik, and honestly, it was one of the tastiest meals I’ve had in a while. The lamb was so tender, and the smoky aubergine puree added a really nice depth of flavor. The portion was generous but not overwhelming—it felt just right. (Friends had Mixed Shish and Turkish Musaka) The service was excellent too; the staff were friendly and attentive without hovering, which made the whole evening feel really relaxed. We also tried some of their cocktails/mocktails (Mai Tai, Virgin Mojito and Bramble), and they were spot on—really refreshing and well-made. If you’re in Canterbury and want somewhere with good food, great service, and a nice atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try.

We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday here today and had a fantastic time. Dorota looked after us marvellously! The food was delicious as always and we were kept well supplied with everything we needed. Thankyou to Dorota and team for making the afternoon so delightful! We have been here for several family celebrations now and it has always been a wonderful experience. Today did not disappoint. We will definitely be back!

What a cracking evening! The nosh was absolutely top-notch, beyond what we were expecting, and the service was brilliant. Our meals were served by Doreen, who was just fab! She helped us pick some cracking wine and cocktails, and she had a lovely smile that brightened up the place. We were well chuffed to find out she’s a doctor—what a surprise! We wish her all the best in her future endeavours. The vibe in the restaurant was ace, and it was decked out beautifully. We’ll definitely be coming back and will be telling everyone about this gem!

Best place to enjoy Turkish Food in Canterbury

I'm a solo traveller and like to have dinner around 5pm. I saw this place open and the menu offered a lot of choices. I ordered courgette fritters and sigara boregi. So much food! I wasn't expecting the salad and bread as well. Really enjoyed my meal, all delicious. The staff were very attentive. I'd return there over trying somewhere new next time in Canterbury.

The food here was OK — but be warned about the large, hot green chili on the side of the plate! What our group most enjoyed was the good service in a pleasant restaurant with a nice ambience.

Food took over 1.5 hours to arrive called them after 50m they said food had been sat there for 30m no collection called another 30mins later still no pick up asked they would refresh food they said no turned up after 1.5h cold and dry spent £90

We came from London to Canterbury to have a nice Sunday out. Saw this restaurant that attracted us from the outside. My family and I are Turkish and thought we could do with a nice kebab. When we entered the restaurant, we greeted them in Turkish, however we only got a ‘nod’ back. We decided to order the food in Turkish with the waitress and she responded back in English to us and started smirking and laughing as if she was humiliating us because we spoke in Turkish. All of a sudden when I wanted to leave because she was being disrespectful, she decided to speak back in Turkish to persuade us to continue staying in. I told her that I felt violated because she laughed at us when we spoke in Turkish and she spoke back to us in English. Just to mention, I was born and raised in London so it’s not as if I did not know how to speak English, but I wanted to communicate in our native language in a TURKISH restaurant.

The food in this place never disappoints …… the Head Chef Abdullah made amazing food ….. a lovely vibe and staff are very friendly and want to look after you whilst there …. Thoroughly recommend

We stopped here randomly and exceeded our expectations. Food and service was amazing. We got the vegetarian moussaka, grape leaves, falafel, halloumi, included salad and pita bread. Would definitely go back if ever in Canterbury again and highly recommend. We’ve dreamed about this meal every day since we got it a week ago

Visited this restaurant with my family recently but it failed to meet our expectations. The food didn’t feel fresh and the bread they served within our Hummus was stale, I had to ask them to replace it. I have dined at several Turkish places and my partner is Turkish as well for me to know the difference. The portion size were small as well. The aubergine with my dish wasn’t properly cooked either. There was only one server because of which the service was not good.

The waitresses were so nice and professional. They are always there to make sure you are fine. They always have the smile on their face. They were there to solve a challenge I had with someone bugging me. Overall,it is a place to go with very satisfactory food. Trust me, you can’t have enough of it.

Tastiest Turkish dish I had in UK so far, brilliant!

ordered a mixed shish kebab with bulgar and the delivery arrived with a box of salad and a bag of pitta. I called the restaurant and they wouldn't help, just told me to speak to just eat who could replace the order, except the only option I had was to claim a refund!

Missed a whole meal and then refused to deliver what was missing, very poor customer service and refused to fix their error

The most disappointing Turkish breakfast I've ever had! £15 for a plate with just four or five green olives, a small bowl of honey, a tiny bar of butter, and one omelet.😳😳😳👎👎

Visited here a couple of nights ago. Called to check what time last orders were - 10.30 but we had to leave by 11.30. This was fab as it was only 9.30! Greeted by a rather abrupt waitress at the door.. told to sit down! We requested to sit at the back in the “garden room” - she agreed but then 2 of her colleagues began to argue against this in front of us in a foreign language! We sat down and had the most attentive warm and friendly waitress who looked after us UNTIL at 11pm her colleague came to the table and literally tried to usher us out by trying to take our unfinished dinner away. We said we were not finished! 5 minutes later another waitress did the same to which we said we were not finished and reiterated we had until 11.30 to leave. She argued and left the table disgruntled! Our lovely waitress was hugely apologetic and apologised. Then another waitress shouted we had to leave - the time was 11.20! Again our waitress apologised asking us to please finish our meal. We did finish and we left by 11.25…. As we walked out the 4 waitresses mentioned were sitting on an outside table eating and drinking bitching at us as we left! In a nutshell, our waitress was faultless but the rest of the rude, unprofessional, abrasive, surly staff should be asked to find a new career because front of house really isn’t their bag! The food was pretty good but I can’t see past the shocking service. I have been going here since the day they opened - the more successful they have become the less quality in both hospitality and service they deliver. I won’t be going back!

Stayed at the Abode hotel and noticed that this restaurant was a 5 minute walk away. Wasn't disappointed. This is a true slice of turkey nestled in the heart of Canterbury. The staff were brilliant thank you to the 2 Indian ladies that served us and our conversation about cricket!!! Me and my husband have been coming to alaturka Northgate for quite some time. Since it is closed now, we decided to go to alaturka westgate. Food: We ordered Chicken Sarma Beyti and Grilled Salmon, with halloumi and Sigara boregi, and new Turkish bread, which I heard that this one specifically it is baked in Alaturka Whitstable (very tasty!). The food was delicious! And presented very nicely on the plate. We have also ordered some baklava and Turkish tea which I highly recommend. Atmosphere: It is just lovely, the colorful decorations make a positive impression of the restaurant. The only suggestion I could add is, it would be nice if there was more lively Turkish music in the restaurant, that would be perfect. Service: As I said, we were going to Northgate before, and for my surprise, thankfully, the staff from Northgate is working in westgate now. The blonde girl from Northgate, absolutely amazing, and professional at her job. Always found a moment to have a quick chat with us (she even remembered us!) and made sure our time in Alaturka is pleasant as always. We have recommended the restaurant to our friends and family. We will definitely come again!

Went to the restaurant for dinner with a large group. The choice of food was fantastic and I was not disappointed with the food which is good as often large groups get either over cooked or cold food. The staff were really attentive and the atmosphere was great initially the roof was open and when it started to get cold it was closed

Nice Turkish restaurant with options like Hoummous with lamb (yummy), grilled chicken wings, meat shish or kofte etc. Service was attentive and there was indoor and outdoor sitting. It was a quiet and enjoyable lunch.

Went out for dinner with friends tonight. The atmosphere at the restaurant was lovely, and the food was delicious and well presented. We had 2 waitresses serve us tonight, and one of them (the newer staff) was fantastic, enthusiastic and made sure we were well taken care of. She went above and beyond. The other waitress, who seemed to be more experienced, was unusually rude to our table. She gave off an exasperated attitude most times which was unprovoked and very strange. The way she spoke to us was bafflingly rude. She was especially rude to my friend who asked her for advice to identify a particular dish so she could order. She scolded my friend ("if its not on the menu, then it means we don't have it") instead of helping her. I ended up helping my friend order the right dish instead because I happened to order it elsewhere before. I understand that sometimes work is stressful but taking it out on customers is just not acceptable. I would also expect service staff to know the menu at their workplace. After experiencing all that, it felt so uncomfortable getting served by her that I really rather wished someone else came to serve our table.

I've been going to A La Turk Westgate for a few years now and have always loved it there, but I was incredibly disappointed today with the service. The waitress, Tara, spoke to me and my friends in the foulest manner. She was so horrible to us. I've never been spoken to like that in my life. My friend wanted to order the lamb shank, to which Tara basically shouted, "IF YOU CANT FIND IT, THEN ITS NOT ON THE MENU, IS IT??" I was genuinely shocked that she spoke to my friend like this. Normally, if customers are trying to find an item on the menu but don’t remember the exact name of the dish, one would assume the waitress would help and guide the customer. But no – instead, Tara was getting frustrated that we were taking our time to order. In the end, we realised the lamb shank is called Kleftico on the menu, which honestly I think the average person would call a lamb shank. (I’ll post a photo and you be the judge). Like sorry we didn’t know the exact terminology - English isn’t our first language, but we shouldn’t be spoken to like that regardless. On numerous occasions, Tara spoke to us like we were a burden. We felt like we were a bother and became scared to even ask for anything because of how aggressively she spoke to us. Maybe she was having a bad day, but at your job you have a duty to be professional with your customers. I actually lost my appetite entirely because of how we were spoken to. It ruined my evening completely. I didn’t end up eating my meal, that’s how much her behaviour impacted all of our night. It was so painful to watch the waitress Tara speak to my friend like this – there was absolutely no reason to belittle someone like this. I’m not even exaggerating at all. I asked Tara if we had offended her or done something wrong, as I was trying to understand why she was treating us so badly. She responded, "No, you didn’t offend me, I’m just very hot, it’s been a hot day." Tara didn’t apologise at all. Tara then came back, and we thought maybe she would come to apologise. But no – she just explained that her role is essentially to ask if we want anything extra, food or drink, and that is the process, and whatever is on the menu is on the menu. I saw her treating the new waitress so badly, it’s only an observation but I’m genuinely concerned she may be bullying her. The new waitress was so sweet to us and was the only reason we didn’t walk out. The new waitress was kind, smiley, and professional - she has fabulous customer service. It was honestly the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I have to be honest, though, the food is still amazing; the quality of the food is great. The kitchen is definitely doing something right, but I’ll have to boycott this place as they clearly do not value customer service as highly as their food.

Freshly cooked tasty food at a very reasonable price

Went for my partners birthday, food was rushed, delivered same time as starter. Asked for the mixed sheesh with yogurt, food was delivered in a small bowl with no plate and hardly any meat, rice was under cooked. Service was Terrible, the staff were very rude and rushed us on our starters ( mains arrived 2 minutes after) , they also never came to check if our food was ok once eating. I soon realised why the service was poor as all staff was eating lunch on the table round the corner In front of the kitchen! We arrived at the restaurant around 13:00. We will never be going back.

There was a young dark hair staff she took the order but the way she treated us i’ll never forget she was so rude to us but not to others i don’t know what was the reason, I believe they will lose their customers if she treat the customers like that .

If I had an option to put 0 starts I would. Me and my family order beer efes, they didn’t inform us that they don’t have bottles, the beer tasted disgusting and was watery. The service of the waitress was poor, lack of positive attitude and treated us as we were not going to pay. Food very expensive and not as good either.

The food was exceptional, the meat was grilled and cooked to perfection! I would definitely recommend getting hummus as a starter as it creamy and just delicious. Definitely recommend going here if u are visiting the area around it!

It's a Turkish restaurant with a very nice ambiance that I go to every time I miss Turkish food. The food is really delicious and compared to other places, it is very affordable, especially when you go as a group. However, it should be noted that not all dishes are prepared according to traditional Turkish food recipes. We do not use Greek halloumi cheese, but I cannot say that reinterpreting the dishes is a bad experience. Additionally, raki is very expensive. I wish it was at a more affordable price so we could drink it without worrying. The service of the restaurant was very nice and at a level worthy of a restaurant in Antep. My European friends really liked having treats like in Turkey. The waiters are always friendly and helpful, they only have a general lack of knowledge about raki, so an information on this would be beneficial for the waiters. Finally, the atmosphere is very nice, it appeals to my style, but I would like to hear Turkish music at least once in a while.

Excellent food and service. Amazing mixed special mezze and the meat both lamb and chicken is so soft and juicy, they use quality ingredients and know how to cook and serve with love.

Although some dishes were rather expensive, portion sizes were very good and with bread and salads provided for no extra charge, the overall bill was reasonable. A nice atmosphere; good food and service; definitely a place to consider.

Having used ala turka restaurants regularly my husband and I were extremely disappointed with the abrupt lady staff, poor quality food including salad from a packet and chewy fatty chicken ,loud english pop music not indulging the Turkish ambience, sitted by a drafty door constantly being opened and slammed ,when we called over the lady manager she was alouf and couldn't care about our disappointed anniversary meal!very poor ,will never return!

Thos was my third time at A La Turka (2 timed at Westgate and once at northgate) and inhave to say it never fails to impress me! I won't lie it can get expensive depending on what you order, but it's great value for money as I truly can't fault the food. I would say Westgate trumps it for me out of the two as the venue is a lot more cosy and fitting for a romantic date night, while the service there is also great. The woman who served us (who's name has slipped my mind) is a wonderful character and .ade our experience so much better. I would go as far to say its the reason we went back there for new years, while our first experience was a first date! Both times we went we opted for the chicken shish (one with yogurt and one without), with a big salad. The first time we went I got the prawns and my partner go the calamari and everything was incredible. The service was quick and booking a table we had no issue both times, despite knowing how popular it can get. It's certainly a mid- range in terms of pricing, but I would recommend this venue for graduations, family meals and certainly date nights. Will certainly be going. Ack again!

Ordered 3 off of deliveroo and one was missing, no communication about it just didn’t deliver it

We come to this restaurant regularly. The one in Westgate, Canterbury has a great atmosphere and superb food. We had a great evening with our friends but found the QR menu really irritating. One person couldn’t get a signal one didn’t have enough phone battery life and then all of us were staring at phones for ages trying to work out what we wanted. It was pretty disappointing to be honest. Part of the fun of eating out is sharing ideas of what you fancy on the menu, jumping from starters to mains to sweets and back. This took all of this away. Just give me a proper menu.

Been eating here for occasions and casual dining for years. Always a friendly welcome and great food. Not a cheap evening out but you know it is quality. We took 6 friends last night and were embarrassed when we all had to access the menu on our phones. This took away all the fun of discussing the menu as we were all focussed on our individual phones and it definitely slowed the ordering process as we each navigated through the pages on our small screens. Please bring back printed menus.

Good place for dinner in Canterbury. Good food and drinks with complimentary salad and bread. Slightly expensive for us and the place also seemed understaffed, so we had to wait for a while for everything.

We often visit A La Turka for dinner when we are in Canterbury. The food is always good, with huge portions, and there's a decent wine list. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere cosy and relaxing.

food is great as always but the size has been significantly reduced without any cost reduction

We had a really lovely sharing platter for two. Excellent service. It was chilly in the restaurant but it was on the coldest night of the year so far and they did move us to a warmer area. Fantastic food, please give it a try.
