A La Turka in Canterbury

Hi, my partner and friends had a wonderful dinner. The location is great, and we had a window table and watched the world go by The food was amazing, The toilets were spotlessly clean, Highly recommended

It's a Turkish restaurant with a very nice ambiance that I go to every time I miss Turkish food. The food is really delicious and compared to other places, it is very affordable, especially when you go as a group. However, it should be noted that not all dishes are prepared according to traditional Turkish food recipes. We do not use Greek halloumi cheese, but I cannot say that reinterpreting the dishes is a bad experience. Additionally, raki is very expensive. I wish it was at a more affordable price so we could drink it without worrying. The service of the restaurant was very nice and at a level worthy of a restaurant in Antep. My European friends really liked having treats like in Turkey. The waiters are always friendly and helpful, they only have a general lack of knowledge about raki, so an information on this would be beneficial for the waiters. Finally, the atmosphere is very nice, it appeals to my style, but I would like to hear Turkish music at least once in a while.

Enjoyed the chicken shish. Unfortunately they forgot to bring my falafel but the bread and houmous was so nice it didn't matter. Friendly staff.

Excellent food and service. Amazing mixed special mezze and the meat both lamb and chicken is so soft and juicy, they use quality ingredients and know how to cook and serve with love.

Although some dishes were rather expensive, portion sizes were very good and with bread and salads provided for no extra charge, the overall bill was reasonable. A nice atmosphere; good food and service; definitely a place to consider.

We held our wedding reception here for dinner and drinks with family and friends. We were able to pre order our food. The service and the food was amazing. We are frequent diners at A La Turka but have never held an event here but would definitely do so again ❤️

Having used ala turka restaurants regularly my husband and I were extremely disappointed with the abrupt lady staff, poor quality food including salad from a packet and chewy fatty chicken ,loud english pop music not indulging the Turkish ambience, sitted by a drafty door constantly being opened and slammed ,when we called over the lady manager she was alouf and couldn't care about our disappointed anniversary meal!very poor ,will never return!

Thos was my third time at A La Turka (2 timed at Westgate and once at northgate) and inhave to say it never fails to impress me! I won't lie it can get expensive depending on what you order, but it's great value for money as I truly can't fault the food. I would say Westgate trumps it for me out of the two as the venue is a lot more cosy and fitting for a romantic date night, while the service there is also great. The woman who served us (who's name has slipped my mind) is a wonderful character and .ade our experience so much better. I would go as far to say its the reason we went back there for new years, while our first experience was a first date! Both times we went we opted for the chicken shish (one with yogurt and one without), with a big salad. The first time we went I got the prawns and my partner go the calamari and everything was incredible. The service was quick and booking a table we had no issue both times, despite knowing how popular it can get. It's certainly a mid- range in terms of pricing, but I would recommend this venue for graduations, family meals and certainly date nights. Will certainly be going. Ack again!

Good place for dinner in Canterbury. Good food and drinks with complimentary salad and bread. Slightly expensive for us and the place also seemed understaffed, so we had to wait for a while for everything.

We come to this restaurant regularly. The one in Westgate, Canterbury has a great atmosphere and superb food. We had a great evening with our friends but found the QR menu really irritating. One person couldn’t get a signal one didn’t have enough phone battery life and then all of us were staring at phones for ages trying to work out what we wanted. It was pretty disappointing to be honest. Part of the fun of eating out is sharing ideas of what you fancy on the menu, jumping from starters to mains to sweets and back. This took all of this away. Just give me a proper menu.

Been eating here for occasions and casual dining for years. Always a friendly welcome and great food. Not a cheap evening out but you know it is quality. We took 6 friends last night and were embarrassed when we all had to access the menu on our phones. This took away all the fun of discussing the menu as we were all focussed on our individual phones and it definitely slowed the ordering process as we each navigated through the pages on our small screens. Please bring back printed menus.

We often visit A La Turka for dinner when we are in Canterbury. The food is always good, with huge portions, and there's a decent wine list. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere cosy and relaxing.

We had a really lovely sharing platter for two. Excellent service. It was chilly in the restaurant but it was on the coldest night of the year so far and they did move us to a warmer area. Fantastic food, please give it a try.

I used to be a regular customer there. I visited recently when I came from London, I gave up. Cosmic prices!!! A few wings £18 plus some salad and a glass of wine almost £50!! In London you can eat the same thing for half the price. Really crazy prices.

The A La Turka special was absolutely amazing. More than enough for 4people. Our waitress Dorota was extremely welcoming and friendly, gave us exceptional service. All around amazing experience, will definitely return!

We had such a brilliant experience here on New Years Eve with our family. The food is consistently amazing without a doubt the best Turkish restaurant but what really sets it apart is the staff and the service. A huge shout out to shristi & Dorka (apologies as I have probably spelt your names wrong) such lovely ladies who couldn’t do enough for us, from your menu recommendations to your funny dispositions your energy was infectious and added to the wonderful experience we had here. Visited here last night 10 of us! We had booked and paid a £10 deposit each couple. We were greeted and taken to the back of the restaurant where we were seated at a long table - perfect! Our waitress (Asian lady with glasses) was great! She was so helpful and recommended dishes etc so we didn’t over order! (Chicken shish in yoghurt yum) The food was brilliant! We couldn’t believe how quiet the restaurant was! But it was great, maybe because of new year! I have been here before but feel its upped its game!

Staff were lovely and funny. Very attentive. We had a sharing platter which was some of the best meat I've had in a long time. Would recommend A La Turka for group meals.

Had a late afternoon meal with friends it was laid out for a large party who fortunately arrive just as we left. Staff very helpful as I have mobility issues, we sat outside on the rear terrace and were very fortunate to have a warm sunny evening. Only soft drinks as I was driving, but the food was delicious as it is in their other venues. Well presented and freshly prepared as we could see as we passed the open plan kitchen on our way to the rear of the property.

Supernette Bedienungen an unterschiedlichen Abenden und extrem leckeres Essen. Schnell gebracht und auf den Punkt zubereitet. Auch das Lokal ist gemütlich und man sitzt dort gut. Die Preise sind völlig in Ordnung für die großen Portionen. Vielen Dank!

Went here for dinner with family and friends. Good food and reasonable prices. Staff was friendly but not always alert. We had to remind them to get our drinks though the food was already served. We sat at the back which was quite noisy because of two groups of men.

Great food and great service and menu choice advice from the lovely Doritos. There were four of us but the mixed platter for two was ample with a couple of extra sides. Lovely and interesting decor made this an all round treat.

The foods are great , staff is friendly as well. Overall, it’s a good restaurant to enjoy delicious food and have good times with friends.

Lovely venue, delicious food, staff were amenable to us moving to a quieter area. The evening was made even better by our fantastic waitress Dorota and her dry sense of humour and attention.

We came across this restaurant by chance after we found out our intended venue of choice was closed on a Monday night. We were not disappointed. The food was authentic and delicious, good value and the staff were friendly and attentive. We shared the mixed mezze platter, freshly baked pita bread and a salad, followed by a lamb kebab. The portions were very generous so we struggled to finish everything. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in Canterbury.

What an amazing place! Exceptionally friendly service - and the food is fresh, colourful and soo tasty. Just one warning: the portions are very big. Lovely, welcoming atmosphere without loud music so you can actually have a conversation.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at A La Turka, and I was very impressed with the overall experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was romantic and perfect for a date. I ordered the Chicken sarma beyti, which is a chargrilled seasoned minced chicken wrapped in lavash bread with cheese and parsley, drizzled with melted butter, topped with tomato sauce & served with creamy yoghurt, rice or bulgur. The dish was presented beautifully, and it was perfectly cooked. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the lavash bread was crispy and flaky. The cheese and parsley added a nice creaminess and freshness to the dish, and the tomato sauce was tangy and flavorful. The creamy yoghurt, rice, and bulgur were all delicious accompaniments. The service at A La Turka was also excellent. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She was able to answer all of our questions and help us choose dishes that we would enjoy. The atmosphere at A La Turka is romantic and perfect for a date. The restaurant is dimly lit and decorated with traditional Turkish décor. We paid around £70-£80 in total for our meal, which we felt was very reasonable given the quality of the food and service. I recommend A La Turka to locals & visitors outside of Canterbury. It is a great place to go for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect. Only thing I would suggest is the music selection to be Turkish music

Recommended to us to use and the food was great. Service, well, we had to ask for the set lunch time menu which is listed on line, and tbh is a good saving. The waitress (no.1) who started serving us became abrupt after this on each table visit where as the other waitress (no.2) was extremely pleasant. Its not too much to ask for really is it. Atmosphere was good.

From reading good reviews about the food on offer here and also being a fan of Turkish food we decided to eat here. We ordered a kebab mix main with rice and chips, side order or bread and salad. After requesting the meat be alittle well done the kofte was still pink inside and only lightly cooked the lamb shish was chewy and the bread was very doughy. The only nice part of the main was the salad! Dessert was chocolate fudge cake which was ok although the cake was dry and tasted more than a day old was not fresh at all, for the price of what we recieved we thought it was on the expensive side and really not worth what was charged.

Overall, the food was great and the staff were warm and friendly. The meals are generous. A suggestion would be to have a small kids menu available, perhaps junior sized portions of some of the most popular dishes, eg chicken wings. Our server was terrific, high energy and very accommodating. We look forward to coming back.

Met a friend from Saudi Arabia and wanted to take him somewhere special for dinner. The staff were so attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The food as always was exquisite. I myself am a vegetarian and I find most restaurants, the choices are limited but plenty to choose from.

Being a vegetarian, my wife and I struggle a lot when we go out with limited food selections but They had good options which made our evening. They have a great diversity in their staff so we could communicate our needs even better. Highly recommended

Very bad service from the entrance the manageress very stroppy , miserable , no smile took our order with no even one word from her . The waiter and the waitress were very helpful even didn’t have any experience. Food was average but very expensive for what we had very small portions not like before . I have been going there for nearly ten years.

Wanted a restaurant for pre theatre meal and liked the look of A La Turka which is a few minutes away from The Marlow. Arrived 5.30 and it was virtually empty by 6.00 it was virtually full. Not surprising given the great food and very friendly service we received. The Hummus starter included lovely salad and plenty of fresh Pitta bread which was more than sufficient for two. We had Lamb and Chicken kebabs for mains which were superb, perfectly cooked. First time to A La Turka but will be back.

Very disappointing. Smaller portions, ordered chicken shish at £21 for main meal and got tiny portion of chicken with small amount of rice and a large amount of bread! Standards have definitely dropped. Long wait and not a good atmosphere. Would not go back again.

Very cool well decorated restaurant at the Westgate of Canterbury, with dining inside, outside the front and the rear of the restaurant with the rear also having a sliding roof. The food was very good, I had the mixed kebab that cost £25, it's not cheap bordering expensive, but it's worth it if it's a treat or special occasion. The staff are very nice, polite and helpful. Nice atmosphere. The toilet could have been cleaner.

Omdat het restaurant er gezellig uit zag waren we naar binnen gegaan. Normaal gesproken ben ik niet zo'n carnivoor maar ik had wel zin in de mixed kebab: een goede keuze! Het vlees was erg smaakvol en perfect gegrild. De Salade die erbij zat was heerlijk vers en de dressing past er goed bij. Het gerecht wordt ook nog geserveerd met Bulgur en een soort van Libanees brood (erg lekker). Wat mij betreft een aanrader.

Avoid especially if you have allergies I have been gluten poisioned at al la turka now on several visits,. Managment declined to offer any refund or improve the provision. Last Saturday night was ruined by diarrhea to my self and son, they also had the cheek to say they could not provide refund with out a doctors note, best is to avoid. I won't be going back now.

The food never disappoints at the Alaturka restaurants. It was our first time in this particular branch and the food was scrummy and plentiful. I also really like the fact that they pay as much attention to their non alcoholic drinks as the alcoholic ones....

I've come to realise you can tell alot about a Turkish restaurant by its moussaka. Without doubt the best I've ever had ....these guys just put in that extra bit of effort that turns a dish into an experience .... This is what you call a top quality establishment . No if or buts about it . Extremely good value for money considering if this where in central London you wouldn't get a seat. And probably wouldn't be able to afford it.... expressing gratitude to whoever runs this place .... blessings

Incredibly rude manager/waitress - politely asked to use the bathroom but was rudely refused. I explained I had just started my period and had no sanitary products but she said she ‘didn’t care’ as I didn’t have a reservation for the restaurant. Dismissive and did not show understanding to a memeber of the public. I will not be dining there

Asked politely to use the toilet as one of my friends had just started their period. The manager (female) told us that she didn’t care and told us to leave. Rude and uncaring attitude so can only imagine how the service would be when dining. Wouldn’t go near it with a 10 ft barge pole. So much for public service.

Food was good. Portion was bigger than I had expected, so i had some for takeaway. I love how they served the meal with a big salad on the house. It wasn't just any salad, but a very good mix with pomegranate molasses, very tasty. Staff were very welcoming too.

I give 5 starts for everything, food, atmosphere and rest of the staff. I was not happy with the waitress that served us. I heard speaking Turkish, Bulgaria and Romania. I don't know her name. Her attitude was like I don't wanna be at work today. Better she should have a day off with that attitude, coming to work and being angry with the customer since she sit them wasn't good customer experience. Apart of that A La Turka it is best of best.

Lovely meal for a friend’s birthday. Food was really good, service entertainingly funny and wonderful. I’ve knocked a star off as we were hemmed in a bit too much and two of us’ chairs kept being hit by the people behind’s chairs. It was a relief when they finally left.
