Tough one this. First and foremost a great bar on so many fronts and a must visit for us beer lovers. Here I docked a star though. Whilst it's great to try new beers, you do have to avoid the brewery duds. 2/4 were duds....one wasn't even servable by bar staff admission..completely down to the brewery recipes of course. 2/4 were amazing. You be the judge. Be harsher on what you let through is my advice. Great beer is SO challenging! And worth the blood sweat and tears. Every time. As I say....a brewery thing...no reflection on this wonderful bar. And it's ok to be daring. As I said....a tough one. First time ever had a beetroot Saison. And it was awesome.

Craft beer bar in central Maidenhead location. Nice to see a craft store instead of a big chain. Pricey but has some unique craft ales, stouts, porters and ciders available. If the weather is nice they have outdoor tables and benches. Hold various events during the week like Lego building, quiz night etc.

We were thrilled when we heard this tap room was opening on our doorstep. We usually frequent Siren tap yard Finchhamstead or Phantom in Reading. Unfortunately we continually found the staff rude and uninviting. We are thrilled the new Siren tap room has opened in Reading so prefer to make the journey there where the staff go out of their way to provide excellent customer service.

I love A Hoppy Place! This has been my go to bar for a good while now. The atmosphere is great inside- lovely furnishing, great music and tons of friendly people! The staff are wonderful, helpful and chatty. As soon as I walk in they slide a few samples of sours towards me because they know it’s what I like. Dogs are allowed as well which makes it even better. If you’re looking for a place to go with a few friends or even by yourself, this is the place! The staff are full of knowledge and always helpful, so if you don’t know what to get they are always there to help. I’d highly recommend this tucked away gem.

Asking me what the food was like in a pub? First time I've been there. Bought some stout, it was lovely but I didn't take note of the strength xD Visited around 4-5pm so it was nice and quiet. The selection of beers and ciders are phenomenal, but you might have guessed that! What might not be apparent to new acquaintances is the love and passion behind A Hoppy Place. More than just open up a bar serving great beer and cider, in little under a year the owners have created a thriving community in a town that was rapidly becoming ghost-like. This goes beyond the usual pub-pleasing events like bottle shares and quiz nights (both of which deservedly fill the place on a monthly basis) to more inclusive activities that reach out to less transitional areas: whether it’s joining the Simcoe the dog on her Sunday walk or making new friends at one of the Lego & Libations evenings. I’ve yet to visit for the Open Mic night but it’s next on my list (albeit at a safe distance from the mic)! And that word “community” goes way beyond the clientele. In the last year brewers have made A Hoppy Place in Maidenhead a destination to showcase their latest beers. This includes local stalwarts Siren (a unique blending session to celebrate their 10th birthday) and moogBrew in Taplow to those travelling from farther afield: a special tap takeover from Leeds’ Tartarus and Unbarred from Brighton launching their legendary Stoutzilla earlier this year. The staff are lovely (look I know them all by name: hello Charlotte, Gavin, Ben, Callum and Lewis) and they’re also knowledgeable (half of them are certified sommeliers) and genuinely care about what they’re building under the stewardship of owners Dave, Naomi and Jason. Small wonder they picked up national awards for both best independent craft beer venue AND online retailer at this year’s SIBA BeerX shindig. Maidenhead has never had it so good! Dog friendly, human friendly and did I mention they do good beer?

The beer selection is varied and always quality, the staff are so friendly and funny, the music is flawless and the fact that you can bring in pizza from Knead next door (best pizza in town) is the cherry on top. The beer selection is unmatched and the fridge stock alone could have you browsing and tasting for months. We come here all the time but have also been here for Oktoberfest last year, talks from local breweries and will be at the Lego and Libations event in February for sure. Absolutely class place and a rare diamond in an otherwise dreary and soulless town centre.

Been visiting this bar fairly regularly since it opened in the summer. Its located over the road from York Road football ground and is off the main high street. Its a decent size with a large bar as you enter and then a variety of seating areas. Its nice and bright, music is unobtrusive with no TV thankfully. There's also a nice run of outside seating although not much of a view and the area is still a bit under-developed. Hopefully one of the empty lots will get filled with a restaurant as the bar has no food on offer. Beer is king here and there's about 15 beers on tap that change very regularly and most are from smaller brewers, some local, some further afield but all pretty well known on the craft beer scene. Most is Keg but they also have 3 or 4 on cask plus some cider. There's also a large chiller section with cans and bottles. They do have wine and tea I think? The beer is mostly superb. For someone new to craft beer it can all be a little daunting I imagine and I have seen the odd person come in and look a bit confused but the service is really good, they know their stuff and are always happy to walk people through the menu and provide little tasters. All the beer is sold in thirds, two thirds, halfs and pints which can often be handy as some of it is pretty strong and can be a bit pricey by the pint; the cost of ingredients I guess. Bottom line though is, while not cheap, its excellent value and personally, I'd rather spend a little bit more on something new or challenging or just plain great tasting than pay less for the usual fizzy rubbish. All in all this place gets a big thumbs up. Its friendly, not overly loud, there's plenty of seating and the beer is tip top. If I was going to be picky, I'd like there to be a NEIPA or a Westcoast on sale all the time for about £6.00 and some kind of food offer would be great but you can't have everything! Its a much needed addition to Maidenhead and I wish it good luck going forward.

Personally, I love it. Nice big bar, plenty of seating, good overall ambience. The staff are generally friendly and enthusiastic and the beer and cider selection is mostly very very good, coming from a mix of local brewers together with regional favorites and the odd beer from some of the best breweries in the country. Theres also a bank of chillers with a huge selection of craft beer, stouts, porters and some excellent german lager. If its your thing they also do 1 or 2 decent low and zero alcohol offerings. Sadly, no food offer apart from a range of crisps, nuts etc. If I was going to be critical I think the draft keg menu has been a bit too heavy on Sours for me and lacks a variety of entry level craft beers with too much at a price point that can be off putting. I like the fact that there are also cask beers available and Sirens Broken Dream seems to be a staple that is great value at £5.50 I think but I've noticed a lot of the rest of the menu is now advertised in 2/3s which hides the fact that quite a lot on offer is £7 - 8 plus a pint. Maybe that's deliberate to attract a more discerning customer and it's all great beer but a bit pricey to make visits as often as I'd like.

If we had more pubs like this in the UK, I suspect there wouldn't be nearly as many tales of woe in the media about how many of them are closing down. As someone who will quite happily pick a bunch of random beers I've never heard of before from the supermarket or local shop, going out to a traditional pub can sometimes be a bit of a challenge when you're faced with the same old selection of lagers and beers. This, I can assure you, is not the case at A Hoppy Place. Walking through the door, you're first faced with several chiller cabinets stocked to the gunnels with more choice than you could ever wish for, and then you turn to the right and see the bar area replete with countless taps ready and waiting to serve up some brews you've probably never heard of before. This is not the place to go if you just want to down a few pints of [insert heavily advertised drink here], but for anyone who craves some variety and the chance to sample something new and exciting, oh my oh my is this the place to come. And if you can't decide what to try, then you can always get a selection of smaller measures rather than committing to a full pint of just one. All of this beery goodness is served up by a team who seem genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about what they're doing, and when the place is full of people who all look as if they're having a truly great time (as opposed to just propping up the bar), then it makes the experience all the more enjoyable. I may have to start getting the train to work more often so I can pop in on the way back to the station (a conveniently short walk away) and try out some more of what's on offer... Here's to a long and prosperous life for this gem of a pub, cheers!
