Lively locaton but setting of the tables is a big let down. I hate looking at people eating while sharing the experience with other person I want to talk to while eating. Unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable turning my head 45 degrees each time I communicate with someone. Also, staff did look quite a lot at us while eating which made eating quite unpleasant. Food wise, nice food. Unfortunately salmon and lamb overcooked. Sweetbreads didn’t find it particularly tasty. I wouldn’t go back based on the price unfortunately.

We visited here for the Menu des Amis last Friday. We were greeted by the doorman and had a friendly reception in the lobby whilst we waited for our friends. We were given a spacious table for six in the corner at of the restaurant near the terrace so great views of the river and wildlife. Everything was wonderful. The food was exquisite. I have not enjoyed Skate/Raie before and usually avoid ordering it but it was delicious. The carafe of Chablis was of a good quality. The staff were excellent with just the right amount of engagement. Correct Service but with a Smile. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere which is not always the case in Michelin restaurants. There were a lot of regular diners present and it was fun watching the “show” and seeing the different dishes ordered. We knew the resultant bill would not be cheap but I felt for the experience and delicious food it was worth it. I have joined the mailing list as would love to go back!

The Waterside Inn has always been on our list. We based our wish to go there on what we saw on TV about Michel Roux Jr., Alain Roux's cousin, a very nice and knowledgeable chef and fair food judge. Another reason to go was that the restaurant has 3 Michelin stars (worth a journey) and is located in the village where Heston Blumenthal has two (started with three) restaurants. Last but not least: The Roux family has a good reputation. Lunch starts at 12.00, but we arrived early even though we took time to take lots of pictures and videos of the whole area. We were seated (15 minutes) in a nice waiting area, where you can have drinks. When the same employees that seated us there wanted to escort us to our table at 12.00, out of the blue they told us we weren't properly dressed, could they not have informed us earlier? We needed a button-down shirt and/or a jacket. Luckily, we had clothing in the car, because after lunch I would drive my brother to Heathrow airport, flying back to Holland. I always check the details of any restaurant, like parking and dress code, copy/paste from the confirmation email: "Dress Code: Most of our guests prefer to dress smartly. Out of respect for fellow diners, casual sportswear, including shorts and flipflops are NOT permitted." My brother and I did not wear any of the above, but normal shoes, normal jeans, and T-shirts (it was a hot day). Later I found out, that IF you are interested in parking details (I wasn't, I know the village well) and click on the link, it directs you to Dress Code | Parking, on the website. There is a different set of rules altogether (copy/paste): "We would like all our guests to feel comfortable to express their own individual style, whilst taking account of the following compulsory rules: Ladies and gentlemen: smart trainers are acceptable. The following are not permitted under any circumstances: • Sportswear e.g. hooded sweatshirts, t shirts, shorts and tracksuit bottoms. • Flip flops / sandals Gentlemen are required to wear: • a collared shirt • long trousers; smart denim is permitted. • a jacket or blazer, at own discretion • smart shoes or trainers Most of our guests like to dress smartly, which is appreciated. Failure to adhere to this dress code will result in your reservation not being fulfilled and our full cancellation policy will apply." We went back to the car and put on a jacket and button-down shirt, during the whole lunch we felt very uncomfortable and hot/sweaty, sitting outside on the terrace. It was hard to get the attention of anyone in the restaurant, to order wine, food and the bill, directions for the toilet, local "important" (rich) guests got all their attention. I have been in 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants in France where you just have to think about asking something and the staff would already be at your table. Sometimes up to 3 or 4 waiters/waitresses will stand not far, yet not intruding to make sure everything goes perfect, questions will be answered. When busy, it takes a few seconds longer. When finally presented with the extensive wine list, I asked for a Barolo, to save time. The sommelier responded in a demeaning/belittling/hautain tone: This is a FRENCH restaurant; we only have FRENCH wines. My question was not strange, I have been to quite a few 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants all over France, most wine bibles include wines from other countries and continents. Ordered rosé champagne, mocktails (I had to drive later) and a bottle of 2014 Margaux. When presented with the menu I asked the waitress: Just out of curiosity, no criticism intended: Why call the main courses "Les Entrées" (American style, derived from long ago when meals had many courses) since that means starter in French. She said she did not know but would ask, while saying that, her supervisor behind her came to the table and responded: Because the FRENCH always want to be difficult. I replied something while smiling (forgot what) and he repeated: Because the FRENCH always want to be difficult. Not in any way related to my question and maybe he forgot he was working in a "French" restaurant? I now doubt that this can be labelled as a French restaurant, since I have been in many, in France. A question about an ingredient in the food was never answered. Being guided to the toilet (and later exit) WE were guided along a path/alley on the side, while "important guests" walked straight through the middle, between other tables. Even trying to pay the bill was difficult, to get their attention for starters took quite a while, every time we put our hand up, nobody noticed us or just ignored us. When finally having asked the bill, it took a long time, I nearly paid, but was surprised by the total amount, and checked for the first time the details on the bill. None of the items on the bill matched our orders, it was from another table, 450 pounds more than our bill. It took more time to get the correct bill (roughly 1.100 pounds = 1.300 euro) and did not pay ANY tip, I usually pay between 15% and 20%. Very unusual, because I even pay 10-15% tip if a service charge is included (10-12,5%) if the service and food were very good. Comparing with many dozens (hundred+) of 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants I have visited, I doubt this restaurant is worth 1 star, definitely not 2 stars and 3 stars is outrageously overrated. The food was good, but not surprising, exciting, the service was horrible at best. Before I started to write this, I checked reviews from the past years, there were many guests with the same or similar experiences, I rest my case.

I visited the Waterside Inn as a birthday treat for my mother in May. Obviously entered with high expectations due to the great history and reputation this restaurant carries. The Waterside Inn provides one of the ultimate dining experiences in the UK on all fronts - location, food and service. The view from the tables is stunning, across the river Thames. Staff are attentively, friendly without being overbearing or pestering, they read the situation exceptionally and are outstandingly organised. Food is clearly thought out in great depth and executed with great diligence. All-in-all befitting of the 3 Michelin stars they have. I would not advise someone who does not enjoy fine dining to attend as they may not get value from their visit but otherwise faultless.

Strict tutorial on arm coverings at the eleventh hour. Guided via toilet group to a c-location where we experienced the medieval operating hierarchy. An unpleasant supervisor who, with his social incompetence, created a much too tense atmosphere among the staff. Then I prefer the French battle. The food was extremely tasty.

First time at a 3* Michelin restaurant so expectation was very high. The location is perfection. Beautiful terrace on the Thames and lucky with the weather. The ambience was also wonderful. However the food, although undoubtedly of a high standard, was as little disappointing. It was not any better than other Michelin starred restaurants we had eaten at. There was certainly no wow factor. Went for the tasting menu and wine flight. At over £1000 for 2 it was disappointing. Maybe our expectation was too high. Maybe the restaurant has become complacent given their success - difficult to assess - but for sure the food was nothing exceptional. Order a half bottle of 2012 Margaux to accompany cheese. It was nothing special and indeed showed no sign of age despite requesting a wine with a little maturity. Maybe this is typical of such a big robust wine that can mature for decades. Half bottles typically mature faster so it was unexpected that the wine tasted so young - it was not to our taste. Overall the staff were accommodating and pleasant.

Having eagerly anticipated my dining experience at The Waterside Inn, a renowned 3-star Michelin restaurant, I must regrettably share my disappointment. Opting for the taster menu priced at £265 per head, I expected an unparalleled culinary journey. While the majority of the dishes were indeed good, the lamb, unfortunately, was overcooked, a surprising oversight for an establishment of this caliber. The service, a critical component of any fine dining experience, fell remarkably short of expectations. For a restaurant boasting three Michelin stars, one anticipates a level of service that is attentive, refined, and memorable. Instead, it was unremarkable and inattentive. This table service was good but not remarkable but sadly highlighted by a particularly disappointing moment: despite having spent £450 per head, the reception staff refused to serve a glass of champagne to celebrate my wife's birthday because the bar was closed. This lack of flexibility and attention to detail was starkly at odds with the restaurant's esteemed reputation. I strongly believe that Michel Roux Jr. should spend more time overseeing lunchtime service. Only 4 tables were occupied suggesting lunchtime is not getting the audience they would crave. Were he present, he would likely share my disappointment and recognize the need for immediate improvements. Moreover, it might be time for the Michelin Guide to revisit The Waterside Inn. If this experience is representative of their 3-star standard, the credibility of their ratings comes into question. At £950 for two people, I expected an extraordinary experience. Instead, I found myself contemplating the many other establishments that offer comparable, if not superior, culinary delights at a fraction of the cost. For those considering The Waterside Inn, I suggest exploring other options where your investment in a dining experience is more likely to be rewarded.

As we share the same birthday and were both 60 on 31/07/24 - a fabulous treat was required and WOW we got one. We stayed overnight in a classic room which was quietly luxurious with a fabulous bathroom and A/C on a hot afternoon. Without exception all the many staff were polite and friendly. The service seemed effortless but absolutely spot on . Clearly a well trained and cohesive group of professionals. The menu exceptional was sublime and when we requested a few changes, nothing was too much trouble. The expertise of the sommelier was not in the least bit perturbed by Mikes dislike of red wine- a wonderful rose was substituted on his flight. Though my glass of margeux was amazing. The flight complimented the flavours beautifully. It’s a restaurant of the highest quality with the most amazing food. Not a hotel so we were surprised that our room was turned down when we retired , a lovely touch. Also I must mention- great cocktails and the best Old Fashioned I have ever had. It is expensive but it is great value when you consider the amount of dedication. Hopefully we can return.

What a WONDERFUL respite close to London. Highly recommend the Inn. Make sure you book the boat for a ride on the Thames. Food was excellent. Service was STELLAR. A true attention to detail at every turn. A little pricey, but certainly memorable. The new Queens Line runs straight from Central London to Maidenhead then a quick cab (suggest UBER) ride to the Inn. Be careful, Oyster cards do NOT work to this station. A trick, simply swipe a credit card at the train station card reader at the turnstile and the same when you exit. Loved it.

My now wife, and I were looking for somewhere to hold our wedding reception. We thought this would be ideal, oh how wrong. We called them and made a provisional booking, paying £120 deposit. We arranged to go along the following Sunday to finalise the arrangements. Told, not asked, to turn up at 11am. We arrived about 10.50. When we arrived we went into the restaurant and got almost got shoved out the door by rude staff, screaming they were not open. Tried to explain why we were there, but they weren't interested and shoved us outside. We sat and never even got offered a tea or coffee. Over an hour later, no one had come to see us. At this point, realised this was not the place to hold our wedding reception, we left, not having seen anyone. Decided this was not the place for us, so left without seeing anyone. Next day we complained and asked for our deposit back. They never bothered to reply and we never got our deposit back. Would certainly not go to this place, and luckily we found a much more accommodating venue, and had a great wedding.. Wouldn't use this place for a funeral wake

First the room. Fabulous, with a private terrace overlooking the Thames. Everything you would expect from a top hotel. My only gripe would be that getting in and out of the bath to take a shower is difficult for the older person and a handle to hold on to would be beneficial. The meal. What can I say, probably the best meal I have had, and so it should be from a 3 star restaurant. Two amuse bouche followed by a 7 course tasting menu with impeccable service in a restaurant looking out on the Thames. Extremely expensive but in my view worth every penny

We had dinner but I imagine lunch would be very picturesque with the river, The food was as you would expect at this level, we had the 7 course menu but it turned into 9/10 with some complimentary extra dishes. All cooked to perfection, very traditional compared to some other 1 star Michelin restaurants I have eaten in. The wine list is beautiful but get ready as it’s not cheap, The sommelier made a couple of recommendations but towards the mid to high price range. We came here with my husband having heard really great things about this place. The food was very good and I can’t fault for this. When the bill arrived however we noticed that it was a bit more than expected. On closer inspection we saw that they had charged us the menu for three people instead of two. I pointed this out to our waiters- clearly showing them the number 3x and obviously being 2 and the response I got was “oh let me check that”. When they’re returned the bill they had had removed the extra charge (which amounted to more than 300 pounds) and said “sorry we have a new person doing the bills”. The reality is that charging a couple for three menus instead of two at a 3 Michelin starred restaurant is completely unacceptable and the apology we got was borderline at best. We definitely would have expected something more in response to this big a mistake at a restaurant of this calibre.

Having eaten at many restaurants which hold Michelin stars i can honestly say that this is arguably the best service & carefully constructed menu which created an utterly enjoyable dinner for myself and my partner. It disappoints me to see some of the other reviews on here because it's alien to me how someone could make such comments about the Waterside Inn. From the moment we arrived the team were on hand to greet us at our car and park it for us. If you are visiting this fine place, then remember it's one of the best restaurants in the UK, it holds 3 stars for a very good reason... It is at the absolute pinnacle of dining, the staff will make you feel welcome and be on hand when you need them. At no point does this place feel pretentious and at no point was anybody judged, people were laughing, we had a few giggles with another table and ultimately the food was absolutely fantastic. We went with "Le Menu Exceptionnel" and the sommelier made a fantastic recommendation of a Dagueneau Blanc. We also enjoyed some well crafted martinis and a 2000 Warre's vintage port with the cheese selection. Yes, it's expensive as is any starred restaurant. But it's worth every single penny. WE WILL BE BACK!

Having been loyal patrons for almost 2 decades, the Waterside Inn has NEVER disappointed. As soon as we arrive, we immediately feel relaxed. The view...the staff...the food...everything is impeccable! There are no gimmicks or the need to be "on trend". The interior hasn't really changed much and that is part of the charm. Every single member of staff is professional, warm and courteous. They have senior staff members with long standing service but always a huge team of juniors. It's great that they nurture young talent. We always opt for the tasting menu and it is divine. Everything is cooked to perfection. We live in London so it can be a 1.5-2 hour journey but it's totally worth it for a special occasion. It is wonderful to dine somewhere away from the pretentious London crowd. You will not find annoying instagram "influencers" dining here and ruining the ambience. What a huge relief! Hahaha I find some of the negative reviews rather harsh, “quality without compromise” will undoubtably come at a “price”. There are so many sub-standard restaurants that charge similar prices and I would rather save my pennies and dine here, ANY DAY! You have to ask yourself whether a 3 Michelin star restaurant could maintain it’s 3 star rating for over 38 consecutive years if it wasn’t up to the game. If you want to spoil yourself, then take a leap of faith! The menu is not “value for money” and if you’re going in with this expectation then you will be sorely disappointed. Although, I have to admit that the pre world war 1 cognac at GBP 1k a shot was insane!! We did not take the sommelier up on his charming offer of this cognac and neither were we judged for it. It was just part and parcel of a wonderful conversation. He was so knowledgeable and generous with his time, we joked and laughed as he talked through the port and cognac offerings. If people are looking for something more “cutting edge”, maybe the Fat Duck is a better option. Again, we have dined there and for us, it does not compare. It’s a completely different “vibe” and not one we would hurry back to. That is despite us being big fans of Heston for a very long time! My husband and I share the same birthday (weird I know) and this year we will celebrate 10 years of marriage, as well as our birthday. So it was indeed a special milestone and we couldn't have wished for a better time and thank the team at The Waterside Inn for once again, being outstanding! We cannot wait to return! If you love classic faultless French dining, I would highly recommend! Just be mindful to book in advance, especially during spring and summer when the weather is beautiful and you can arrive to the restaurant via a little boat!

So disappointed with this place. I have never felt so judged for my appearance at an establishment. If anything, I should be turning my nose up at this place and the poor service, not the other way round. I get the impression they are not happy with anything other than the upper-middle, upper class, which is fine with me as long as it’s clear before you get there. Haven’t had the apparently Michelin star food yet so perhaps that will help me re-review this place but so far wish I hadn’t come here at all.

So don't get me wrong from this 3* review, the food was very good, as you would expect from a 3 Michelin starred restaurant. However I've dined at a fair number of single starred restaurants over the years and I hate to say it, but the waterside feels like it's lagging behind. The food itself is very classic and "safe". There's nothing particularly innovative about it, nothing that stands out and "wows" me. I thought that this was the criteria to earn your 3 stars. At £800 for 2 of us, I do not feel I got good value for money. The staff were extremely attentive and very friendly, although as they were rushing around a lot my chair was bashed into a few times, without apology. The wine selection was excellent and the sommelier knew his stuff. One other slight gripe was after the meal I got reception to order a taxi. Some unlicenced (or didn't display a licence) car turned up. We were charged considerably more than the Uber that got us there. Please switch to using a reputable, metered, local taxi firm.

First visit to the Waterside Inn for “Le Menu Exceptionnel” - their tasting menu that certainly lived up to its name. Seven superb courses (which turned into eight), all beautifully presented and almost all of which were heavenly, in particular the langoustine starter, the game bird soup and the pomegranate sorbet. Service was superb – efficient, discreet and friendly in equal measure, with plenty of explanation of what we were about to sample. Only two (minor) wrinkles. First was the venison course, which we were told would be medium rare (as we would have wanted), but turned out to be closer to medium when served. Still tasty (although a little too strongly seasoned for my partner’s taste), and the serving staff assured us that they would advise the kitchen. In some restaurants that’s a meaningless promise, but sure enough the maitre d’ came to chat to us and apologised that the course hadn’t been as described. Shortly afterwards, we were presented with an additional beef course that wasn’t on the menu, as a peace offering. The second niggle was that, having ordered our wine, we were asked if we wanted water. We asked for just a jug of tap water (as we do in any restaurant), but were presented (without any comment) with bottled water. Thinking that perhaps there were plumbing issues, we didn’t argue – but after we had finished the bottle, a carafe of tap water duly appeared, again without any comment. Not wishing to spoil the experience, we didn’t argue when the final bill included a £10 charge(!) for the bottled water – perfectly palatable, but leaving a bit of a sour taste in the mouth given that we hadn't ordered it. Would we recommend the Waterside? Yes, unhesitatingly so. The dishes are wonderful, the service exceptional and the setting is superb, almost within touching distance of the river. No boats, alas, as the Thames is currently in spate, but plenty of opportunity to watch from the dining room as the swans slowly got airborne.

First time in a long time we have come for the autumn (a la carte) menu, and boy, it’s good. So good in fact we cleared the diaries and returned a couple of weeks later to do proper justice to the menu. We prefer wines by the glass at top class restaurants these days, so everyone has a glass properly paired to the dish, like with a tasting menu, and that worked perfectly, the sommeliers really know their stuff. We enjoyed the attention of the same charming waitress on both occasions, it is worth mentionning how much engaging staff enhance your experience. But what I love most of all about the Waterside Inn is that the food is just the right side of perfect preparation without going over the top - everything on the menu and on the plate is recognisable and delicious and, for us, the right portion size too (although we always share dessert, I find these days they tend to be served in a “double” portion).

Excellent food and service, good accommodation and ok atmosphere would sum up our experience. The food and service throughout was excellent. Pricy, but for what you get we thought value for money. Another poster mentioned a canteen style atmosphere. We felt that was unfair, but some quiet background music, especially if live or selected carefully, we think would only add to the experience. Accommodation for what is charged is only ok. Again, service rescued it, really nice turn down service and I'm sure our bathroom consumables were replenished at the same time, really good attention to detail if so. Room was a decent size, perhaps starting to look a touch tired now. Essentially the food and service are the stars, as you should probably expect. We would love to be lucky enough to dine here again :) Dave and Amanda Kerfoot 😍

Every year we stay in the lovely cottage named The Mallards which overlooks the Thames and it is glorious just watching the ducks and the boats sailing past. Then comes the amazing meal for dinner. At this time of the year there is a golden plum souffle, my first one was a few years ago, this time I ordered 2 as it is so good and I did not want to wait until 2024. They were stunning. Also I had a fantastic risotto as a starter which I hope is available next visit. This restaurant fully deserves it 3 Michelin stars and we will be booking again shortly.

An overnight wedding anniversary with room and menu exceptionnel. Waterside Inn is in a lovely setting on the Thames and the first night of their autumn menu was a great success, in a splendid mirror clad room. Delightfully decorated small plates of top quality food, a very well balanced menu. The steamed sea bass was just slightly overcooked. The warm golden plum souffle, beautifully risen, tasted only of sugar. I had two mouthfulls only, my partner ate it all. Those were the only downsides. Eating here is as much an experience as a meal. Portions are small but were were totally stuffed towards the end and could not eat the pretty 'mignardises'. The staff were all charming, had time to chat and were always cheerful. The bedroom was modern, comfortable and colorfully decorated. Breakfast is brought up on a tray. The croissants, pain au chocolat and brioche were to die for. The best we have ever eaten. I would go back simply for the pastries. Thank you to everyone who made this a happy experience. Photographs of just a few courses.

This is a 3* Mitchellin experience from the moment you arrive at the beautiful period building on the edge of the Thames. The staff is extremely attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant opens up on the River with a friendly ambiance. We had the Al a Carte menu starting with several Amuse bouche portions leading up to the Pan fried Foie gras accompanied with a Sauternes: fabulous! My main was Duck breast and my wife had the Sea bass. Both exceptional! A wonderful experience not to be missed!

Stayed and dined for my Wife's 75th. We were last there for her 70th. They say it's not possible to improve on perfection but the staff at the Waterfront has achieved this. The attention to detail is what sets them apart. All of the staff were genuinely happy and nothing was too much trouble for them. The attention during Dinner was superb and Molly was a breath of fresh air. Needless to say that the food was exceptional, we had the Taster Menu and it would be difficult to pick a favorite dish as they were all sublime, I think the Scallop just edged it. It's not cheap but it's well worth the expense and I think that we'll return for my 75th in a few years.

Cote Windsor is truly able to create such a special evening! More than just its idyllic location, the branch has the friendliest staff, who offered both quick and efficient service and warm conversation, not to mention the delicious food. My family received a really warm welcome and were greeted by a lovely waitress when we arrived at our table. All members of staff were sure to greet us with a smile in passing which made all the difference! Throughout the night Adel was particularly attentive and generous with both his time and service, making the night with my family even more special.
