I come to Southport occasionally and am always looking for the best place for lunch and today my wife and I tried the café inside the Atkinson. I had a chicken and bacon wrap which clearly freshly made and with nice salad, together with a good strong espresso. My wife had a lovely tuna melt panini and americano coffee. Combined with very friendly service from all the staff, this made a great dining experience. I know where we will coming for lunch next time we come to Southport.

Stopped for a quick drink and a cake. Even though it was late in the afternoon service was very good and order delivered quickly. Sat outside in the late afternoon sun. Not the cheapest had during the week but excellent homemade cake.

The cafe is a very pleasant place to relax and is clean and roomy. The food is a little expensive (£7.85 for a glorified (halloumi and mushroom) toastie on a previous visit), even for Southport, and the cakes I've tried (Victoria Sandwich and Lemon Drizzle) are much too sweet even without the cream filling. A note about the staff - always efficient and pleasant. Definitely worth visiting.

Unfortunately after sitting and waiting to be served for over 10 minutes, we were given the menu which didn't have the cakes and its table service only so aren't meant to go up to the counter. After another 5 minutes no body came to take order and we left. When staff gave us the menu i found them rather rude. We had wanted to go local and usually love going to great little place but wont rush back

Great choice in Southport for lunch. Food is tasty and ample. Glass of wine was lovely and the hot chocolate with marshmallows on the side acted as our desert - came out feeling happy. Good value too.

We called in for lunch today after looking around the exhibitions, we both had the ploughman’s lunch and it was excellent. The plates were loaded with lots of lovely lean ham and a large wedge of Lancashire cheese, plus chutney and loads of salad. I can not fault the quality or quantity of the food, the staff were efficient and polite and the environment clean. We’ll certainly be back to this Great Little Place! 👍

Visited for the pre show meal deal which at £12 for three courses is great value. Friendly staff and good service. Food was lovely too but my main course could’ve been served a little hotter. The range of cakes looked very tempting too. Would visit again

A good little place which could be great if the general presentation and cleanliness was tightened up. Sloppy appearance - lots of uncleared tables and a very messy floor which is inevitably off putting when eating and drinking. These details really do matter and I hope they will be addressed positively. As I am local - and a big fan of al The Atkinson has to offer, will visit again and hope the issues are resoved.

Situated inside The Atkinson Museum/Library complex it was the ideal place to visit for hot drinks and cakes before visiting an exhibition at the Museum. It seems very popular and we got the last table when we visited late morning. We visited on a cold damp day but it did look as if during warm days there might be the facility to sit out. The staff were lovely. We very much enjoyed the lemon drizzle cake which was quite a large slice and generous hot drinks. We would certainly visit again next time we are in Southport.

I went for lunch with a friend. A Great Little Place seems to have moved to the Atkinson Library on Lord Street (unless there are 2 Great Little Places). I like the look of this cafe. It is rather cool. Unfortunately, it seems to sell the same stuff as all of the other cafes ie paninis, soup and sandwich etc. Wouldn't it be great to be offered something different? This makes it difficult for any cafe to rise above the average as they all seem to be pretty much the same. I ordered soup and half a sandwich. The soup was a little watery and not brilliant. I didn't finish it. The half sandwich was shockingly small. It was literally one slice of bread cut into four to make 2 tiny sandwiches. The tea was nice. The service was good. The cafe is inside the library which it makes it quite an interesting venue. There was a seller in the foyer of the library selling vintage items which made our trip to A Great Little Place a bit more exciting. Based on my visit I might return for a coffee or a tea but I wouldn't choose it for a special lunch date.

We came to the coffee lounge this afternoon for our pre-arranged afternoon tea. I have had afternoon teas delivered from there on 3 occasions previously in Southport and they have always been excellent so we went with high expectations that one in the lounge would be equally good, if not better. Unfortunately it was extremely disappointing. I had contacted in advanced and paid deposits for each person and received an email from them detailing the menu but the afternoon teas contained no quiche or sausage rolls, no salad or crisps as had been promised and the sandwich selection was uninspiring (only cheese and pickle and ham). When we tried the scones they were cold, hard and stale and frankly inedible (we think the scones and very small pieces of cake had been previously frozen). The only option the waitresses could offer were 2 clingfilmed left over scones from the display cabinet between 4 people. She did say she had tried to contact the owner whilst we were there but received no reply. We live in Northampton and travelled several hundred miles to take our elderly parents out for a treat but were left feeling very disappointed. I emailed the owner but received no response.
