L’Auberge Restaurant – Seabank Road, Southport. Having previously booked a table by telephone we have just returned from enjoying an excellent lunch at L’Auberge restaurant in Southport. At lunchtime the restaurant offers choice of a la carte and fixed price menu options: £12 for 1 course, £15 for 2 courses or £17.50 for 3 courses. With the fixed price menu a choice of a bottle of white, rose or red wines is available at lunch time and early evening for £16. To drink we chose a bottle of the white wine, which was an excellent Pino Grigio and a jug of iced water. To eat we both chose the three course option and started with the soup of the day which was a spicy ham and vegetable. For the main course we both had the glazed ham with boiled potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables in a white sauce. For dessert we had a cherry bakewell served with cream and garnished with fresh fruit and a sticky toffee pudding. We finished off with 2 latte coffees. The total cost of the meal for two people was just under £57 for three courses including the wine and coffee. The restaurant is elegantly furnished and the quality of the service, the food and drinks was excellent and very good value for money. We would definitely recommend L’ Auberge restaurant and hopefully will be returning to it again soon.

I thought I would write this review as I felt it deserved it as I used to go to this restaurant before Covid and always had a excellent meal and excellent service but unfortunately it was taken over by new owners and it wasn’t up to previous standards but I heard that it had been taken back by the lovely Lynda and Russell the chef so we went yesterday for lunch and I honestly think the food was amazing and the service was excellent and well worth the money as it was 3 courses for £17.50 each so absolute bargain for such quality restaurant food ,so please give them your support and treat yourself to a lovely meal it will not disappoint .

A very pleasant restaurant in the heart of Southport. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was great. French jazz being played in a French style restaurant (as opposed to the country music being played in the Italian restaurant the night before!). Knowledgable and friendly staff. Definitely worth the (slightly) higher than average prices. You get what you pay for.

This restaurant has been consistently good over the last 20 years we have been using it, It has recently been taken over by new management who are well known and very popular.. The restaurant has excellent and spacious dining and a well stocked bar. It also has outside dining at the front. It is well maintained and the toilets are immaculate. The service is friendly and efficient and food is to to die for, well served. The place is highly recommended

We went on the spur of the moment, and honestly, there’s no better way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon. We ate off the a la carte menu, although the lunch menu looked interesting too. The French Onion Soup, with croutons and Gruyère cheese was delicious without being too rich and Gravadlax salad as starters and then we both had the lamb main courses. These were so tasty and the gravy was full of flavour. The vegetables, specially the potatoes were excellent. The puddings were equally delicious and I couldn’t recommend The Auberge highly enough. The decor is classy and the welcome was warm. Such a great place!

Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. The starters of chicken liver parfait and prawns were delicious. We felt that the whole meal, particularly the wine, was rather over priced. On arrival we were pointed to our table not taken there. We sat for over 15 minutes with no acknowledgement. When someone finally cameover and we mentioned we’d been ignored we were told, ‘I thought someone else would have done it’ the bread rolls came out (just 2 white ones) I asked if they had brown and was told flat out - no! the starters arrived very quickly whIch is always worrying. Within 5 minutes of our starter plates being taken our main arrived! Even more worrying! We said we hadn’t had a break and the lady just repeated whose having the chicken and who’s on the pork. Then as we looked shocked she just put the plates down on our table. It’s very sad but can’t believe we’ve been made to feel like leper’s? Anyone can have a bad day but in this industry you should make people feel special as they’ve made an effort to come to your establishment and spend their hard earned money there

Conveniently situated just off southport's busy Lord street, Auberg is easy to find - just around the corner from the Bold Hotel. With a French theme, as the name implies, we did not find much in the way of a truly "French" menu; although the menu was varied, the food was good and the portions sensible. Service was polite and efficient. The Early Dine menu which offers a good choice of three courses, served most weekdays from 3.00pm is very good value. This can be accompanied by a most enjoyable bottle of red, white or rosé wine for £12.There are regular entertainment evenings, with piano jazz and theme nights , all of which ,we understand, are very popular and we would suggest that booking is essential.

Visited again meeting up with our son and daughter in law who live in London and we live in Scotland and we had not seen them in over a year. The food as before was delicious and could not be faulted. The service whilst efficient was lacking in any warmth - there was no interaction. Even when we were paying the Bill ( almost £200) and leaving a gatuity there was barely a thank you and no goodbye at the end. We've been going to Auberge for over 15 years and I can't believe I've only just thought about putting a review on here. I'm pretty sure in all those 15 years we have never had a bad meal. The menu changes constantly so always something different to try but always some old favourites on there. The set menus at lunch are exceptional value and kids at half price, usually around £7 for a 3 course meal is a no brainer. Russell and his team never fail to be welcoming even when very busy. Some of the staff have been there since before we started going and I think that's testament to the kind of place this is as usually hospitability has a high turnover of staff. Best restaurant in Southport for quality and value for money.

We hadn't eaten at the Auberge since it changed hands and when we went in for a mid week lunch the restaurant appeared to be less than 50% full. Our starters were ok but both main courses looked to have been thrown onto the plates with little or no concern for presentation. There are so many fabulous eateries in the Southport area that up until now we’d overlooked Auberge. What a mistake. At an incredible £13.50 for a 2 course lunch, we were simply blown away by the top quality food and excellent service. There were quite a few things we were tempted by on the menu but we settled for 2 Mediterranean platter starters, followed by the sea bass and the chickpea burger. There is very obviously a chef at Auberge who takes great pride in the food as it was all faultless. The portion sizes are huge and we were sorry not to sample a pudding, but we will next time. My final comment has to be on the vegetarian (in fact it may have been vegan) burger. It’s really difficult to find a vegetarian burger with the texture just right, usually they’re either too soft or too dry. The one I had for lunch today was spot on, so very well done Auberge and will you please share the secret?

Ate here tonight, served by a very surly waiter, I think his face would have cracked if he smiled! Had only 1 lamb left, no steak pudding, either would have been my choice. Husband had 'last' lamb, I had steak pie, served with mustard mash, more mustard than mash, pease pudding, inedible. Next table to us ordered lamb, (after us) and they got it, must have been out and bought more! Saying that, husband's lamb very stringy, veg rock hard, and we do like it al dente, my pie was very mediocre. Declined desert, just wanted to leave by this point. Asked for the bill, explained I had the meerkat app, which they were part of, only to be told they don't do it anymore, only certain days, not sunday to Thursday as stated. So, all in all a lousy experience! Save your money and go elsewhere!

I haven't been here for quite some time and was a tad disappointed. I came with my husband for lunch. He had sea bass which he enjoyed and I had the risotto but it was quite tasteless, despite the description on the menu saying chilli and coriander. The restaurant is lovely however.I didn't like seeing the masked waitress though. As well as it not being mandatory for staff to wear these, we couldn't hear what she was saying and she had to repeat herself so many times it was embarrassing. We still didn't quite find out what was on the specials list!

We had two meals on two separate occasions here. My husband enjoyed his, he had chicken, I had sea bass. It looked nice, but it was dry without a sauce and I've had a lot better tasting fish. The desserts were ok .On the second visit we both had the rolled lamb, looked nice, and although my husband said his was ok , I didn't like mine. The lamb was cooked well enough, but very strong tasting and when I asked for mint sauce I laughed when I was given a lidded jar of it. I actually thought it was going to be Colmans! It was all clumped together and dry. I hardly ate any of it, veg was a bit tasteless and although my husband said he'd give them another go I'm not too sure if I would.

Although styling itself as a "brasserie", the experience is more like a pub meal.We had the rolled lamb and sea bass. Both were just OK, decent portions but not great quality. The lamb especially was a bit like a pre-cooked pub meal.Service was efficient but not friendly, characterised mainly by short questions and nods. After paying, we asked the waiter to give us some change from a £20 note for a tip. He basically threw the change onto the table, with coins falling onto the floor, where he just pointed before walking off.Needless to say, I don't recommend this one.

Our first stopover visit to Southport. This restaurant was a recommendation from the owner of our hotel, Glenray. As it’s a very short walk to get there, we gave it a try. At peak times, I’d advise to book. The food is excellent and a good range across the menu. If you gave a sweet tooth, I’d advise pacing yourself during the day to get through 3 courses. I had the Swordfish on our first visit, it was delicious! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed

Innovative menu's & excellent covid procedures in place. Set menu's for lunch & dinner (2 or 3 courses from £13 - £17, & are great value even before Boris picking up half the tab this month! Early bird 3 courses for £12 is also great value. We had Chicken in goats cheese sauce & pork steak In port & Stilton as mains & both 10/10. Good wine list & by the glass.

First time out after shielding and we couldn't have been happier. We had wonderful food and the covid measures that they have in place are very good and it made us feel very safe. We have been longing to go to Auberge during all the lockdown months and it certainly didn't disappoint! If you've never been, you must give it a try.

We have been travelling around England for the past 10 day’s and this is by far the best meal we have eaten. Not only was it the only place in Southport we have eaten where staff have adhered to Covid-19 regs they were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We had the chef special starter of prawns with chilli and guacamole and a rhubarb and goats cheese starter. Followed by a chateaubriand for two with all the trimmings. We were fortunate enough to be offered this despite not ordering it. The steak was cooked as ordered and melted in your mouth. Our only regret is we were so full we could not eat a dessert. The price was very reasonable and we will definitely return if we come back to Southport.

Well, the food was really excellent, no doubt about that, and the wines were good - and sensibly priced. But the visit left mixed feelings. We sat down to the rear - which was not a good location, as the low ceiling bounces back everyone's conversations like an amplification chamber. No sooner had we taken our seats than the waiter (who was wearing a mask, but without it covering his nose) was upon us inviting us to immediately order drinks. Unsurprisingly, we weren't ready. He was similarly too hasty to request the food order, which he invited us to place the moment the aperitifs arrived. Only one of our party got their aperitif of choice, because there wasn't an orange in the house for the preferred Campari - so it was routine G&T for others. That was disappointing.Would we visit again? On balance, yes - for the food. But next time we'll sit further forward, because of the excessive decibels to the rear. It wouldn't be a bad idea if someone addressed the noise issue - I'm sure there are measures that could be taken. The five star rating is for the food - otherwise, probably a three.

The COVID precautions were good, although I wish the staff would cover their nose as well as there mouth with the face masks!£17 for 2 courses, £20 for 3 courses is good value. Portion sizes more than reasonable, so no problems here. The quality of the food is mixed. There is nothing bad about it. I had the slow cooked lamb which was tasty with lovely new potatoes and a knockout gravy. But I think I could cook that as well. So I would say the food is pub grub standard. Nothing wrong with that and the prices closely align to that. I will come back, but it’s not on my ‘special’ list of restaurants in Southport.

Nice surroundings friendly staff and most important great food at sensible prices. My wife and I visited for an evening meal and can find no fault with this restaurant. We where on holiday in Southport and this place was recommended by several people and I can see why. Would definitely recommend it.

Saturday lunch time menu. When we arrived for our reservation there weren't many other tables seated, but it filled as time passed. The menu was very interesting with an impressive variety. There was no chicken liver parfait starter unfortunately, which was the only starter than appealed to us.My wife chose, for her main, the honey mustard pulled pork which she really enjoyed. I picked the bacon stilton wagyu burger which was lovely. As part of the lunch time two course deal we both picked a dessert - my wife had the apple and almond frangipane while my dessert was the cheesecake with liquorice ice cream. They were also very nice! Our friends enjoyed their meals too, so everyone in the party was happy. The atmosphere allowed for a nice friendly catch up and the coffees at the end were lovely. It isn't cheap but the prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food.It seemed to us that other tables were being served much quicker than we were so our rating factors that in, otherwise it would have been 5/5.

What a joy to be almost back to normal at Auberge. To start with the difficult issues to all restaurants with covid involved. The staff at Auberge were fantastic distanced as much as possible all wearing masks and with a very cleaver idea of disposable menus. There where 4 of us and we had the 3 courses for £20 and fantastically cooked food the chicken liver parfait and rolled lamb where particularly lovely followed by the very generous cheese board (I was hungry ). Also there is the option for advanced order of a whole lobster, no where in Southport Has this at the moment and it is a little slice of luxury. It is very rare to find a gem of this longevity, 27 years!! And it is at such a high standard. Auberge is the only place for me to eat in Southport

We visited for the early evening menu on Wednesday 15th July after a 4 month’s closure and were delighted with the changes to the venue. The upper space and therefore the stairs have gone, one wall has gone and with the new decor the restaurant has opened up and appears lighter and more spacious. However it is still cosy and intimate . The food was just as delicious and excellent value and service very friendly and attentive. It has always been a favourite place to eat but will be even more so.Jacqui and David Henshaw

We've been waiting to get back out for a meal and wanted to return to Auberge as we knew the help that they'd provided to people during the lockdown. Whilst that might have been the main motivation we did ourselves a big favour in the process as lunch was excellent. The menu was interesting and the steps taken re bio-security left us feeling entirely relaxed. The food was great and really good value. Strongly recommend if you're looking for a pleasant lunch experience.

One of our favourite restaurants in Southport so was nice to go back there for Lunch now that they have re opened.as always food was very good with a 2 course set menu for £13,00 social distancing was strictly adhered too and plenty of hand sanitiser available. The only reason i have not give 5 star was that the Fish portion was very small compared to the amount of batter surrounding it,but still very tasty

It was really nice today to be able to return to The Auberge in Seabank Road Southport, for our first restaurant meal since the end of the lockdown. We booked by phone in advance for lunch today and found that the restaurant has been redecorated and refurbished during the lockdown and is now completely contained on the ground floor. The set lunch menu offers 1 course for £10, 2 courses for £13.50 or 3 courses for £17 (with some additional supplements for certain specific items). To drink we had a red wine and bitter shandy.A bread roll with oil and balsamic vinegar and a jug of water was provided. To eat we chose a garlic bread to share to start. For the main course we both chose sirloin steak (supplement payable) which was served with chips, a grilled tomato and a Portobello mushroom. For dessert we both chose the pear tart tatin with prosecco sherbet. We finished with two lattes. The restaurant experience offers friendly welcoming staff, a relaxing atmosphere, great food and drinks and good value for money. We would recommend the Auberge and will look forward to another visit soon.

We came to the coffee lounge this afternoon for our pre-arranged afternoon tea. I have had afternoon teas delivered from there on 3 occasions previously in Southport and they have always been excellent so we went with high expectations that one in the lounge would be equally good, if not better. Unfortunately it was extremely disappointing. I had contacted in advanced and paid deposits for each person and received an email from them detailing the menu but the afternoon teas contained no quiche or sausage rolls, no salad or crisps as had been promised and the sandwich selection was uninspiring (only cheese and pickle and ham). When we tried the scones they were cold, hard and stale and frankly inedible (we think the scones and very small pieces of cake had been previously frozen). The only option the waitresses could offer were 2 clingfilmed left over scones from the display cabinet between 4 people. She did say she had tried to contact the owner whilst we were there but received no reply. We live in Northampton and travelled several hundred miles to take our elderly parents out for a treat but were left feeling very disappointed. I emailed the owner but received no response.

Having walked nearly 10 miles along the beach, the dunes and through the pinewoods, Kitty’s Tea Rooms were a very welcome sight! I only wanted a cup of tea but couldn’t resist the coffee walnut cake (YUM) and a very tasty Club Sandwich. Very friendly staff, and a great atmosphere. Perfect.
